    Alt-Tab or Command-Tab can sometimes be slow, especially when you have many windows open and you frequently switch to only a few of those windows. How do you work around this problem -- any tool to switch to desired windows (most frequently accessed) directly, other than tapping the Alt-Tab combination multiple times? Note: This should work on Windows 7, Linux and Mac. Update: Please post your keyboard-shortcut solutions (using the mouse cannot be any faster - especially when you were touch-typing/writing-code before switching to a window).

    As of June 2012, Java 7 has not been certified yet with Oracle E-Business Suite.  EBS customers should continue to run JRE 6 on their Windows end-user desktops, and JDK 6 on their EBS servers. Our plans for certifying Java 7 for the E-Business Suite We plan on releasing the Java 7 certification for E-Business Suite customers in two phases: Phase 1: Certify JRE 7 for Windows end-user desktops Phase 2: Certify JDK 7 for server-based components When will Java 7 be certified with EBS? We're working on the first phase now. As usual, I cannot discuss release dates here, but you can monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates. Current known issues with JRE 7 in EBS environments Our current testing shows that there are known incompatibilities between JRE 7 and the Forms-invocation process in EBS environments.  We have been working directly with the Java division on this for a while now.  In the meantime, EBS customers should not deploy JRE 7 to their end-user Windows desktop clients. You should stick with JRE 1.6 for now.  But wait, you previously said... Older JRE certification announcements stated: Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and higher.  We test all new JRE releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all JRE releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE releases to your EBS users' desktops.   • How do you do A/B switching in a web app? (for deploying updates)

    I currently have a mysite.com (A) which points to /public_html/ and a dev.mysite.com (B) which I created a /dev_html/ for that. I cloned the site but now I need a way of switching between them without having to copy all the files from one dir to another and without bringing the site down. I just want to switch the live site to B and then work on A, and when I finish, switch the live site to A and work on B. Is there a simple way? I'm using cPanel X and cPanel 11 (WHM VPS). Also, both can interact with the same database so that's not an issue as I'm not changing any database structure. Only the php/js/img files need to switch.

  • How do I test switching compilers from MSVS 6 to MSVS 2008?

    When switching from MSVS 6 to MSVS 2008, what major differences should I look for when testing the software? I'm coming from more of a QA perspective. We have two programs that work closely together that were originally compiled in Visual C++ 6. Now one of the programs has been compiled in Visual C++ 2008 in order to use a specific CD writing routine. The other program is still compiled under MSVS 6. My manager is very concerned with this change and wants me to run tests specific to this change. Since I deal more with QA and less with development, I really have no idea where to start. I've looked for differences between the two, but nothing has given me a clear direction as far as testing is concerned. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  • Any tips on switching from bash to zsh if often using shell inside of emacs?

    Related to this question: Advantages and disadvantages between zsh and emacs' (e)shell, I've read some great things about zsh, when using M-x shell, my familiar emacs shell seemed like it would need some customizations. I also use evil-mode in shell mode, so that means I use vi keystrokes for shell editing. Took a little while to get accustomed to this, but I really like it. Any advice or tips on going from bash to zsh if one uses emacs? Or better off adding the file completion mentioned in this question: Worth switching to zsh for casual use?.

  • Switching BIOS SATA RAID/AHCI setting causes BSOD at Windows Start - Why?

    I just changed my disk setup from: 1 SATA HDD Primary OS Disk 2x SATA HDD Backup Disks in RAID 1 TO: 1 SATA SSD Primary OS Disk 1 SATA HDD Backup Disk [No RAID] Everything worked great, no problem. So, since I don't have a RAID array anymore, I decided that I could change my BIOS setting to AHCI instead of RAID. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R v1.0 mobo. These are my steps: Settings Integrated Peripherals "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" = RAID -- Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome Next Step: Launch BIOS settings Integrated Peripherals "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" = RAID -- Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome Switch both settings back to RAID, reboot, and Windows starts up just fine, no issues. What am I missing? Why can't I set it to AHCI mode without BSODs?

  • Dell Inspiron 1564 overheating but fan not switching on, how to diagnose?

    I've got a Dell Inspiron 1564 laptop that is about one and a half years old. Since about a week, the laptop started to overheat, causing it to switch off unexpectedly... The cpu fan is working erratically, it can start to spin for a while, doing its job and cooling down the cpu before it stops, but then the temperature goes up, and the fan doesn't reacts, once the temperature reaches a critical point (over 85 celsius, checked with speedfan...), the laptop switches off... I already cleaned the vents and fan from dust, to no avail, and it was actually quite clean anyway. Drivers and bios are up-to-date, no crapware was ever installed on this machine. I don't know how to diagnose the problem, could it be the temperature sensors that sends wrong information, so the fan doesn't reacts? but then I believe the computer wouldn't detect the overheat and stop... Is there a way I can pin point the problem? Maybe some low-level diagnostic tools to check functionality of sensors and fans??? The warranty is already over so any suggestion would be welcome.   • Getting back the old alt-tab windows switching behavior in Windows 7?

    When you run more than 6 applications on Windows 7 and you press alt-TAB, icons representing the first 6 applications and the desktop appear on the first row of the grid and you can cycle with alt-TAB-TAB... through the 6 most recently used windows the usual way, but the 7th and other less recently used windows don't follow the same rules. Instead they get grouped together according to their application but disregarding whether they were recently used or not. This new behavior is mentioned here. I am very used to the old way of cycling and the new system is driving me crazy. I tend to have 20 or so windows open at one time and I frequently need to alt-tab to the 7th or 8th window on the stack but it doesn't work the same anymore. Does anyone know how to put back the old behavior, so that alt-tab-tab-tab... goes through the whole list in most-recent to least-recent order?

    I have two routers at my house. Both of them have DCHP server enabled. One of them is 192.168.1.1 and gives adresses from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.32 The other one is 192.168.1.50 and gives adresses from 192.168.1.51 to 192.168.1.99 The problem is that I only have internet access in one because my ip is 192.168.1.7, and when I switch to the other one, the ip remains 192.168.1.7, even though I have automatically get a ip adress in Ipv4. When I manually change my ip to one in the range allowed by the router, I can browse the internet. Any ideas how to solve this? Thank you.

    In Mavericks, Apple introduced a "feature" where if you hover at the bottom of any screen the dock pops up on that screen. This is disrupting my workflow as I am constantly having the dock pop up when I don't want it to and then I have to go to another window and hover at the bottom for several seconds to get it to go away so I can click on what I was trying to in the first place. I don't want the dock to move; I want it to stay on the bottom of my right-most monitor like it always has. How can I adjust this in OSX Mavericks?

    After using the wireless keyboard that comes with the iMac, I have switched to a MS Ergo Natural 4000 one. Surprisingly I had to install extra software as OS X could not work out which keyboard I had. After which I went into sys prefs and set the main input method to be "British - Microsoft" first and "Swiss German" second (what the wireless keyboard is), on the "input sources" tab: However... OS X keeps resetting my input method back to Swiss German which is driving me bananas. I have the flag thingy top right so I can see when this changes. N.B. I have "input source options" set to "use the same one in all documents" which I am assuming means keep the language the same for anything running. It also flips back on the login page. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    I've an Acer laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and an ATI Radeon HD 6550M Graphics card. Whenever I connect the power to charge the battery it automatically switches to the high-power GPU (ATI) instead of the low-power (Intel) GPU. There's an option in the bios to stop such thing but it makes the GPU runs always on high-power and I can't switch to the low-power GPU. How can I prevent the switchable graphics from automatically using the high-power GPU when charging?

  • In Linux, are there any plug-ins to let me do `<Win>`+`<Num>` style app switching (like Windows 7's superbar)?

    Using Windows 7's superbar, I can select/launch the 2nd application group by <Win>+<2>. We have DockbarX in GNOME, which is nice (grouping the windows like Windows 7), but it doesn't enable the <Win>+<2> style keybaord shortcuts. Any suggestions? This is not restricted to making Linux like Windows. But I just find the <Win>+<2> style shortcut very useful. Are there similar ways in Linux to quickly switch between specific apps without pressing <Alt>+<Tab> many many times?

  • Why does Snow Leopard report incorrect battery levels for Bluetooth input devices after switching them to Apple rechargeable batteries?

    I have a Magic Trackpad, Magic Mouse and the Apple Wireless keyboard. They work fine. Two days ago, doing my part for the environment, I changed all their batteries to Apple rechargeable batteries. Today I noticed that the battery level meter for all three devices report the wrong battery level. The trackpad reports 93% charge, the keyboard 75% charge and the mouse 65% charge. This can't be right; these are fully charged new batteries. They can't possible drop that much within 48 hours. Has anyone else encountered this problem? And are there any solutions?

  • Suggestion for live video stream aggregation/switching/forwarding/management software?

    I'm looking for a software or system that can receive video streams from a number of cameras via a network (RTMP or similar protocol), present a visual overview of all video streams and allow me to forward/send a selected stream to another service (e.g. to a Flash Media Server, or anywhere via RTMP). Basically the digital internet equivalent of a TV studio control panel, which allows a director to put together a live show. Is there any such software at an affordable price? A GUI-less server which can be scripted to switch streams would be good too. I'm not even quite sure what kind of product category this falls into or what search terms to plug into Google. Most results I have come up with have little more than an executive summary description which doesn't tell me anything. Any suggestion welcome.

  • Notepad++'s pesky EOL Format switching -- how to remove the invisible (default?) keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+M, Ctrl+J

    Notepad++ lets the user specify whether the end of lines (EOL) format for a file should be entirely in Windows, Unix, or Mac formats. Notepad++ also remember the last one encountered in a file and uses that EOL format when a new file is created. But Notepad++ seems to have some pesky default keyboard shortcuts built-in that can create MIXED format files, creating havoc with this otherwise quite reasonable situation. Specifically: - Ctrl+M puts a Mac style EOL, i.e. (0x0D only), - Ctrl+J puts a UNIX style EOL, i.e. (0x0A only), The hazard is that rapid typing and using the keyboard heavily with other shortcut commands could inadvertantly mean typing oone of these above, each time turning at least one line in the file into another EOL format. So my Question: How can I turn OFF these apparently built-in keyboard shortcuts. Please Note: I've already scanned through Settings > Shortcut Mapper and could not find Ctrl+M or Ctrl+J listed for EOL conversion. Thanks,

  • Need text editor that can save locally AND via FTP for Linux - switching from EditPlus on windows

    I just switched from Windows to Linux. I've been using EditPlus for many years mainly because of it's ability to save locally, and then send the file via FTP, with easy keyboard shortcuts (ctrl-s to save, ctrl-alt-s to ftp). I also need syntax highlighting and basic code editing features. Is there anything for Linux that can do this? I don't want to run EditPlus via Wine
