• Connecting Wii to router to Proxy Server via VPN to BBC iPlayer

  I live in the USA and want to be able to watch UK TV streamed over the web. The relevant services are geographically crippled. I can do this by using a VPN proxy server in the UK, connecting to the VPN service using a straight Windows VPN connection. However, this means I have to watch everything on my PC. The BBC iPlayer works on the Wii in the UK. So, I'd like to connect my Wii to a wireless router (LinkSys WRT54G2) and have that be automatically connected via VPN to my proxy service in the UK. If I can do this then I'd be able to stream UK TV direct to my TV via the Wii. I thought I could have one router act as my VPN connection, connected to a 2nd router that connects to my Cable internet access. But this bit isn't working, any thoughts?

• Do or can robots cause considerable performance issues?

  So the question in the title is exactly what I am trying to find out. My case is: At work we are in a discussion with team members who seem to think bots will cause us problems relating to performance when running on our services website. Out setup: Lets say I have site www.mysite.co.uk this is a shop window to our online services which sit on www.mysiteonline.co.uk. When people search in google for mysite they see mysiteonline.co.uk as well as mysite.co.uk. Cases against stopping bots crawling: We don't store gb's of data publicly available on the web Most friendly bots, if they were to cause issues would have done so already In our instance the bots can't crawl the site because it requires username & password Stopping bots with robot .txt causes an issue with seo (ref.1) If it was a malicious bot, it would ignore robot.txt or meta tags anyway Ref 1. If we were to block mysiteonline.co.uk from having robots crawl this will affect seo rankings and make it inconvenient for users who actively search for mysite to find mysiteonline. Which we can prove is the case for a good portion of our users.

  Recently when you search for me on Google several URLs from my blog have started showing up, instead of just the main URL. 1) https://scotthelme.co.uk/ 2) https://scotthelme.co.uk/category/wifi-pineapple-2/? 3) https://scotthelme.co.uk/wifi-pineapple-karma-sslstrip/ Is there a reason this starts happening? I have contemplated doing something to remove them but is it better to occupy the top 3 spots instead of just the top spot? Should I just leave them there?

• Google Webmaster Tools Index Status is 0 but sitemap URL shows indexed

  I've added my site to Google Webmaster tools www.medexpress.co.uk. The site was submitted a few weeks ago. The index status shows 0 but it shows 6 URLs have been indexed in the sitemaps section. If I search in google I can see that the site is indexed and several pages appear: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Awww.medexpress.co.uk&oq=site%3Awww.medexpress.co.uk&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 My question is why is the index status 0 when the sitemap section shows several indexed pages and also the pages appear in the search engine.

• How to create wifihotspot in ubuntu 10.04 LTS

  I am using ubuntu 10.04 LTS in my lenovo laptop and have a android ICS device. I want to create a wifi-hotspot in ubuntu, which I can later use for connecting android device. I need this setup for capturing the packets from android device and later analysing them using wireshark in my ubuntu.   We have a site primarily targeted at the UK market, and are adding a US-market alternative. As per Google's recommendations: To indicate to Google that you want the German version of the page to be served to searchers using Google in German, the en-us version to searchers using google.com in English, and the en-gb version to searchers using google.co.uk in English, use rel="alternate" hreflang="x" to identify alternate language versions. • IP Tunneling for Spotify? [closed]

  I was in the UK and enjoyed Spotify relentlessly. Now I've moved back to Greece and I can't even pay for the darn thing. So my idea was this- I have a server in France and it has a fail-over IP in the UK. So I installed a proxy server on it and made it listen to the UK IP. So far so good. Then, I played Spotify for a while through the proxy server just fine, and it thought I was in the UK. But now... it gives me an error message that I'm in another country than the one on my profile (UK). I don't really understand why - maybe they also geolocate the IP address of the client, not just the proxy server? Either way, I'm kinda stuck - is there a way to tunnel Spotify's network traffic through my server transparently? Maybe a VPN or something similar? Thanks

  Hi, I am working on a site that has the following structure: site.com/us - us version site.com/uk - uk version site.com/jp - Japanese version etc. I would like to create a robots.txt that points the local search engines to a localized sitemap page and has them exclude everything else from the local listings. So, google.com (us) will index ONLY site.com/us and take in consideration site.com/us/sitemap.html google.co.uk will index only site.com/uk and site.com/uk/sitemap.html Same for the rest of the search engines, including Yahoo, Bing etc. Any idea on how to achieve this?   I have 3 URLS all pointing to the same site. www.abc.co.uk www.xyz.com www.123abc.org I have a folder /foo/bar which has lots of sub folders and files in etc. I want to rewrite this to /bar. So if I have www.abc.co.uk/foo/bar/sheep/page.html I want it to redirect to www.abc.co.uk/bar/sheep/page.html. Is this possible. Sometime I may have a URL like www.abc.co.uk/foo/bar/foo/page.html so this would become www.abc.co.uk/bar/foo/page.html. Only the first instance of foo would be rewritten.

I have a site called testsite.co.za, now in the index.php i want to include the include.php file, the include.php is not in the root of testsite.co.za, Now i created another folder includes in the web root directory which contains include.php my code looks as follows in testsite.co.za/index.php require_once '../includes/include.php'; if i run testsite.co.za it can't detect include.php. Is there a certain server setting I need to change in order to include this file? I am in an organisation with 2 AD servers in 2 different countries, e.g. US and UK, and they set up the US and UK domains respectively. the accounts are set up such that all employees in both countries have a US\user and UK\user account. • SEO disasters moving domain for a high traffic website?

  We're looking at moving our website from http://www.wikijob.co.uk to http://www.wikijob.com/uk as we spread our wings internationally. Our .co.uk website has a PR6 and received around 1/2 million visitors a month, 40% international. The wikijob.com domain, while registered for a while, has not been used nor promoted. I am concerned that moving domain could really haemorrhage our traffic and result in a loss of goodwill from Google, even if we use a 301, but equally, if we could transfer that pagerank to the .com domain, that would give us a massive head start around the world. Should we do it, or should we start over with .com and leave .co.uk as is?

• Homepage issue on Google [closed]

  We have recently updated our website www.blinds4uk.co.uk with a new homepage containing additional features and more on page content but since then we have lost primary keyword positions and the home page has disappeared completely. The only time it appears is for an exact search ‘blinds4uk’. Today I took snippets of 'unique content' from the homepage and put this into the 'google search' but our homepage was nowhere to be found. When I did the same in ‘Yahoo’ the homepage came up. Are we missing something? We ranked in the top 4 for primary kw terms 'blinds uk' & 'uk blinds' but now we don’t show anywhere for these terms. Our homepage has never ranked well for the primary kw 'blinds' yet our internal pages rank very well with many pages on page 1 of google uk. We employed an SEO firm for 9 months to help us establish issues with the homepage but they never could, so we got rid. We have been trying to get to the root cause of why the homepage ranks so poorly for a number of years and only yesterday we established that we had the meta tag directly below the tag and our title & meta description were further down the page; we have today corrected. Not sure what effect this would have on the way Google reads the homepage but we are trying everything to try and get the homepage ranking fro those primary kw's. Our current developers & ex SEO guys are all part of the same company and cannot pin-point anything other than saying carryon with their SEO team because it will take time but just comes across as a milking exercise. Another thing which I have found very strange is the data from our 'traffic audience'. We are a UK based website yet our traffic stats were showing as;- UK 36.6%, Denmark 35.8% and India 27.6%. – don’t make sense to me! Is there anybody out there that could simply point us in the right direction to the problem(s), so we can fix once and for all? Could there be anything within the code that is causing the home page not to display within google for our primary kw's terms such as blinds, window blinds etc. I would appreciate any advice at all that may help us in our quest to sort this homepage issue once and for all

  I have a windows web hosting package. I have 2 different domain names. Can i point my first domain to the the hosting package and then run BlogEngine.NET and then point the second domain to the hosting package running NopCommerce cart? www.domain1.co.uk (blog) www.domain2.co.uk (e-commerce cart) In IIS i would just create a new application within the site and create the bindings for domain2. • Web master tools is throwing out 404 errors on link not on page

  Webmaster tools is showing thousands of 404 errors, where pages on the site are referring to another incorrect url. For example, URL not found www.plantify.co.uk/shop/=, linked from http://www.plantify.co.uk/shop/gift-voucher and http://www.plantify.co.uk/shop/special-plant-offers. I obviously have checked the source and cannot find any references to this link on any page. The only consistent issue is that it only seems to report this error on pages with two section i.e. www.plantify.co.uk/shop does not report any error whilst all pages with www.plantify.co.uk/shop/xxx (where xxx can be several different pages such as gift-voucher) all report this. I cannot seem to duplicate this error. I have run a link checker (we use Screaming Frog) and it does not report this error. I have fetched these pages as a bot, and these do not report this error. I am at a total loss. I cannot even duplicate the issue, but it is most definitely an issue, as Webmaster Tools is reporting new errors every day. Is this perhaps google bot doing its own thing?

• Why can't I view a specific websites?

  I am a netwrok administrator at a small company (22 PC) and i have a problem, and i don't know which could be the cause. I can't access a specific website from the LAN. I have a server which has 2 NICs(one to ISP and one to LAN). I have installed on the server (Bind DNS server and DHCP server) Debian 6 Server. I want to mention that "nslookup mcel.co.mz", and "dig my_site" is not working perfectly, I can't access the site from inside the LAN. I can't send emails to person that are located in that domain. When I dig mcel.co.mz @8.8.8.8 the domain is resolved. Why can't I view a specific websites? www.mcel.co.mz Why can't send email to person that are on some domains? @mcel.co.mz I don't have any rule configured in Debian Server which wouldn't let me acces the site. • Certain websites won't load with DHCP server

  Hi, I recently configured a server using Windows Server 2008 to take over from my router using DHCP Server. I disabled my router from assigning IPs too. All works well, except for certain sites that refuse to load e.g. "Firefox could not find www.amazon.co.uk" http://www.google.co.uk/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/ http://www.jobsite.co.uk/ I think it may have something to do with co.uk domain. If I reboot the server everything goes back to normal but of course thats not a good solution to do that every other day. Does anyone know of this problem or what it might be - I am very new to server technology.
