    I have the classic setup public class Parent { Integer id; ... // No generics Collection someCollectionAttribute; ... public void setChildren(Collection c) { ... } } public class Child { Integer id; ... } and I'm trying to map this on the usual table setup using iBatis (version 2.30... don't ask). create table parents ( ID integer primary key ... ) create table children ( ID integer primary key PARENT_ID integer references parents(id) ... ) My mapping file looks like this <resultMap id="ParentResult" groupBy="id"> <result property="id" column="ID" /> ... <result property="children" resultMap="ChildResult" /> </resultMap> <resultMap id="ChildResult"> <result property="id" column="ID" /> <result property="parentId" column="PARENT_ID" /> ... </result> <sql id="loadParent" resultMap="ParentResult"> select P.ID as p1, ..., C.ID as c1, C.PARENT_ID as c2 ... from parents P join children C on (P.ID = C.PARENT_ID) where P.ID = #id# order by P.ID </sql> Doing the usual sqlMap.queryForObject("loadParent", new Integer(42)) at first caused a NullPointerException inside the setChildren setter which apparently is called with a null argument (my bad). Fixing the setter everything works fine, but the logs show that setChildren is called only once before even running a single SQL statement, still with a null argument, so I'm wondering what's going on here. Anyone has any clues?

  • iPhone MailComposer class UIViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated issues

    I created a class to launch the MailComposer so that my iPhone app would only have one place to go when generating various kinds of e-mail: some with attachments, some not. Some with pre-filled addresses, some not. I didn't want my class implement UIViewController, but it has to so it can be the delegate for the MailComposer. Otherwise, the view controllers that call my class would themselves have to be delegates for the MailComposer, which defeats the purpose. The downside of having my class be a view controller is that it has to load to the screen before it can modally bring up the MailComposer. Unfortunately, view controllers can't be transparent. The effect is, whatever is on screen gets covered by a solid white view controller for a moment before the MailComposer appears. I could maybe live with that, but not this: after the MailComposer goes away, I'm left with my blank view controller occupying the screen. I ought to be able to get rid of it from within itself by calling this: [self.parentViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:NO]; But that dies a horrible death: "Loading 43365 stack frames..." Has my class -- a UIViewController that pre-fills and then launches a MailComposer -- lost track of its parentViewController? It isn't nil, because I've tested for that. As launched from within the current view controller... // My class is called Email. Email *oEmail = [[[Email alloc] init] retain]; // Red, to remind myself that I'd like to someday learn to make it transparent. oEmail.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor]; // Pre-fill whatever fields you want, and specify attachments. oEmail.EmailSubject = @"I am truly stumped"; // This has to go on screen first.   • Web Safe Area (optimal resolution) for web app design

    I'm in the process of designing a new web app and I'm wondering for what 'web safe area' should I optimize the app layout and design. I did some investigation and thinking on my own but wanted to share this to see what the general opinion is. Here is what I found: Optimal Display Resolution: w3schools web stats seems to be the most referenced source (however they state that these are results from their site and is biased towards tech savvy users) http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php (aggregate data from something like 15,000 different sites that use their tracking services) StatCounter Global Stats Display Resolution (Stats are based on aggregate data collected by StatCounter on a sample exceeding 15 billion pageviews per month collected from across the StatCounter network of more than 3 million websites) NetMarketShare Screen Resolutions (marketshare.hitslink.com) (a web analytics consulting firm, they get data from browsers of site visitors to their on-demand network of live stats customers. The data is compiled from approximately 160 million visitors per month) Display Resolution Summary: There is a bit of variation between the above sources but in general as of Jan 2011 looks like 1024x768 is about 20%, while ~85% have a higher resolution of at least 1280x768 (1280x800 is the most common of these with 15-20% of total web, depending on the source; 1280x1024 and 1366x768 follow behind with 9-14% of the share). My guess would be that the higher resolution values will be even more common if we filter on North America, and even higher if we filter on N.American corporate users (unfortunately I couldn't find any free geographically filtered statistics). Another point to note is that the 1024x768 desktop user population is likely lower than the aforementioned 20%, seeing as the iPad (1024x768 native display) is likely propping up those number. My recommendation would be to optimize around the 1280x768 constraint (*note: 1280x768 is actually a relatively rare resolution, but I think it's a valid constraint range considering that 1366x768 is relatively common and 1280 is the most common horizontal resolution). Browser + OS Constraints: To further add to the constraints we have to subtract the space taken up by the browser (assuming IE, which is the most space consuming) and the OS (assuming WinXP-Win7): Win7 has the biggest taskbar footprint at a height of 40px (XP's and Vista's is 30px) The default IE8 view uses up 25px at the bottom of the screen with the status bar and a further 120px at the top of the screen with the windows title bar and the browser UI (assuming the default 'favorites' toolbar is present, it would instead be 91px without the favorites toolbar). Assuming no scrollbar, we also loose a total of 4px horizontally for the window outline. This means that we are left with 583px of vertical space and 1276px of horizontal. In other words, a Web Safe Area of 1276 x 583 Is this a correct line of thinking? I tried to Google some design best practices but most still talk about designing around 1024x768 which seems to be quickly disappearing. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  • Dictionary is returning false on ContainsKey after item is added

    I have a dictionary declared as follows IDictionary<string, object> _objectIds = new Dictionary<string, object>(); I was experiencing some problems with it and it discovered that the instance returned false as a result of ContainsKey method and from the watch window I was sure that the item was there. So I created helper method private bool IdsContainsKey(string key) { lock (syncObject) { lock (_objectIds) { if (_objectIds.ContainsKey(key)) return true; // A if (_objectIds.ContainsKey(key)) return true; // B return _objectIds.ContainsKey(key); // C } } } During my debugging session I run into situation when the method exited in place B and sometimes I made to C returning true.   • Generating all unique combinations for "drive ya nuts" puzzle

    A while back I wrote a simple python program to brute-force the single solution for the drive ya nuts puzzle. The puzzle consists of 7 hexagons with the numbers 1-6 on them, and all pieces must be aligned so that each number is adjacent to the same number on the next piece. The puzzle has ~1.4G non-unique possibilities: you have 7! options to sort the pieces by order (for example, center=0, top=1, continuing in clockwise order...). After you sorted the pieces, you can rotate each piece in 6 ways (each piece is a hexagon), so you get 6**7 possible rotations for a given permutation of the 7 pieces. Totalling: 7!*(6**7)=~1.4G possibilities. The following python code generates these possible solutions: def rotations(p): for i in range(len(p)): yield p[i:] + p[:i] def permutations(l): if len(l)<=1: yield l else: for perm in permutations(l[1:]): for i in range(len(perm)+1): yield perm[:i] + l[0:1] + perm[i:] def constructs(l): for p in permutations(l): for c in product(*(rotations(x) for x in p)): yield c However, note that the puzzle has only ~0.2G unique possible solutions, as you must divide the total number of possibilities by 6 since each possible solution is equivalent to 5 other solutions (simply rotate the entire puzzle by 1/6 a turn). Is there a better way to generate only the unique possibilities for this puzzle?

  • Java Robot key activity seems to stop working while certain software is running

    I'm writing a Java application to automate character actions in an online game overnight (specifically, it catches fish in Final Fantasy XI). The app makes heavy use of java's Robot class both for emulating user keyboard input and for detecting color changes on certain parts of the screen. It also uses multithreading and a swing GUI. The application seems to work perfectly when I test it without the game running, just using screenshots to trigger the apps responses into notepad. But for some reason, when I actually launch FFXI and start the program, all of my keyboard and mouse manipulations just stop working altogether. The program is still running, and the Robot class is still able to read pixel colors. But Robot.keyPress, Robot.keyRelease, Robot.mouseMove, Robot.mousePress and Robot.mouseRelease all do nothing. It's the strangest thing-- to test it, I wrote a simple loop that just keeps typing letters, and focused notepad. I'd then start the game, refocus notepad, and it would do nothing. Then I'd exit the game, and it'd start working again immediately. Has anyone else come across something like this, where specific software will stop certain functions of java from working? Also, to make this more interesting-- Last year I wrote a very similar program using the same classes and programming techniques to automate healing a party in the game as they fight. Last year, this program worked perfectly. After running into these problems I dug up that old program, ran it without making any changes, and found that it too was having the same problems. The only differences between now and when it was working: I was running Windows Vista and now I'm running Windows 7, and several new Java versions as well as FFXI versions have been released.   • Is it worthwhile to implement observer pattern in PHP?

    I have been meaning to make use of design pattern in PHP, such as the observer pattern, but that I have to recreate the observers' relationship each time the page is loaded pains me. As references are saved as a new concrete objects in session, there is no way to preserve relationships between subscribers and their observers unless you use a GUID or some other properties to form a lookup, and store that property instead. With the cost of recreating the relationships each time a page is loaded, is it worthwhile to use design patterns such as observers in PHP, compared to having a clean design? Any real-world experience to share?

  • How do I fix JavaHL (JNI) Not available after I have changed the logon password on my Mac?

    I have installed Eclipse 3.5.2 and the plugin Subversion JavaHL Native Library Adapter 1.6.9.2 and this worked without any problems. However, this morning I was forced to change the password to logon to my Mac and since then I get the message that "Subversion native library not available" when I try to save any changes. Can anyone help? I have tried to add this line (-Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni) to the eclipse.ini file but this didn´t seem to make any difference. Can anyone help?

  • There is no attachment in the sent mail by iPhone

    I'm trying to send a recorded sound file as attachment with MFMailComposeViewController. The sound file is OK. The picker shows the correct file name, shows the audio file icon as attachment, sends the mail, but there is no attachment in the result. I attached below the source of the sent mail. There is a "text/plain" content type part instead of "Content-Disposition: attachment;" as expected. This is my code code to define the path and attach the audio file.   • Personal project in Java

    My first project in java is going to be a program (eventually I have to create a GUI interface but for now CLI would do) to keep track of my books (something similar to what libraries have only a simpler). I need to be able to insert, update, remove, show all books, update, search(by name or author or date). For the design I was thinking one main class Library which will have all of the above as methods that connect to the db and retrieve the data. Is this approach ok? I realize it's simple but it's my first real project and I would appreciate a little feedback. Also, is it too soon to consider reading up on design patterns and database design ?

  • Closest Approach question for math/physics heads

    I'm using a Segment to Segment closest approach method which will output the closest distance between two segments of length. These objects are moving at variable speed each, so even when it succeeds I'm currently using a 10-step method and calculating the distance between 2 spheres as they move along the two segments. So, basically the length of each segment is the object's traverse in the physics step, and the radius is the objects radius. By stepping, I can tell where they collide, and if they collide (Sort of; for the MOST part.).. I get the feeling that there could be something better. While I sort of believe that the first closest approach call is required, I think that the method immediately following it is a TAD weak. Can anyone help me out? I can illustrate this if needed. Also the "practical example" given everywhere is the Eclipse Plugin Framework. My questions are: 1) What is the CLEAR and SIMPLE definition of OSGi? 2) What COMMON PROBLEMS does it solve?     Hi everyone. I'm having hard time with Xhtml Strict 1.0 and Css. And I'm almost out of solutions. My Site Url: http://www.pro-turk.net/beta/ I made a jquery multilevel dropdown menu for my site. It looks like OK, but I have used inline-block property of css display attribute on navigation menu which is a part of css 2.1 and isn't supported by some browsers (including ie6 and ie7). I want to make #nav li elements block level elements, but to do this and having all of them in same line, the only way is using float in #nav li. But I want to center them in their parent (the menu bar). So I need something like float:center (I know it's pretty stupid and doesn't exist). But is there a way to include block level elements as children elements without linebreaks (I mean without making a block level element). Regards.

    Hi, We would like to test our web application (jsf 1.2, richfaces 3.3.3) with jsfunit. We are using junit 4.8.1 library for our unit tests. But jsfunit (1.2.0.Final) requires non existing class junit.runner.TestSuiteLoader. If i downgrade to junit 3.8, i can't use annotations any my Test classes any more. Is there a solution for it?
