I’m a fan of the new VS 2010 Web.config transformations. I use this feature for deployment purposes and wondered if it is possible to use them for debugging too.
I think of using them in the IDE: I want to create different built configuration (with linked transformation configurations); choose one of them; start the web site in the IDE and debug the different configuration this way.
I'm trying to debug a webpart installed on a client's SharePoint instance. I wanted a quick and easy logging feature, so I thought of writing messages to a text file in the temp directory. SharePoint doesn't seem to like it, so what are my options?
Hi,
I have started out with macvim and now fairly comfortable with the navigation (on a single file) and now I need to write a whole project (say rails) using mvim.
In textmate, you have mate project_dir which opens the project in a side drawer, so my question is:
Is there a similar feature in mvim?
How can a complete project managed in traditionally in macvim?
Links to some write-ups are welcomed.
I'm running into a strange problem. I have a vector of lists and I use unlist on them. Some of the elements in the vectors are NULL and unlist seems to be dropping them. How can I prevent this?
Here's a simple (non) working example showing this unwanted feature of unlist
a = c(list("p1"=2, "p2"=5),
list("p1"=3, "p2"=4),
list("p1"=NULL, "p2"=NULL),
list("p1"=4, "p2"=5))
unlist(a)
p1 p2 p1 p2 p1 p2
2 5 3 4 4 5
i mainly focus on the web, i think i will never create desktop applications.
so i think it's better for me to focus on typical web languages like php.
i know an advantage java has over php is multi threading though.
will php ever support this feature in the future?
thanks
When using the visual studio 2008 debugger with c# i can right-click on a variable and choose "Make Object ID" which allows me to watch that object (via it's ID) regardless of whether it is in the current stack frame or not.
When the debugger is in VB code, (doesnt matter if it's run from a c# unit test or a vb unit test) That option isn't there.
Where did VB put this feature? Or does it simply not support it like so many other helpful c# features?
Both of this website has similar feature and interface, so I have strong feeling that both of this website built on same CMS/framework:
lintasberita.com
cekberita.com
Its built on PHP
But What is the CMS/Framework used by that website?
Thank you.
I want to develop a module to implement such a feature:
when exchange receive emails in the mailbox : [email protected]
the module will be triggered and modify the email's TO Address to /test/@smb.local and save back to mailbox [email protected].
Thanks in advance!
I'm still very new to Silverlight. I'm currently using vs2008 at work.
As far as I can gather Silverlight 4 is vs2010 only.
I stumbled across this article on command binding, it says that command binding is
a new feature introduced in silverlight 4.
Is command binding integral to MVVM in silverlight, does it make MVVM much simpler to implement?
Thanks for any help.
Hi!
I'm using the tags in HTML5 to play a video on a web browser... (and I'm very impressed with this new feature)
Is there the functionality to change the video being played through Javascript? Say when I select another video from a list, a Javascript function would be called which would contain something on the lines of MyVideo.VideoLocation = //location of new video to be played. Is this possible please?
Thanks and regards,
Krt_Malta
Hi Folk,
Here is a sample java program.
I wonder why the two approaches reslut different stories. Is it a bug or kind of bitter java feature?
And I run the sample upon java 1.5
package test;
public class TestOut{
public static void main(String[] args){
new TestIn();//it works
Class.forName("test.TestOut$TestIn").newInstance();// throw IllegalAccessException
}
private static class TestIn{}
}
I recently played with MongoDB in Rails using Mongoid. I like the ability to define attributes for models within the model file (as opposed to in migrations):
class Person
include Mongoid::Document
field :name, :type => String
field :birthday, :type => Date
end
For projects that cannot use a schema-less database, does a similar feature exist? Any gems or plugins that generate schemas from a similar syntax would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Given what I know of every other type of static feature of programming––I would think the answer is 'no'. However, seeing statements like OuterClass.StaticNestedClass nestedObject = new OuterClass.StaticNestedClass(); makes me wonder.
Im trying to implement the search feature in my website.
when the search keyword is entered in the textbox, and the category combo is selected, the form will be Posted and the result will be shown on the same page.
what i want is to keep the selected category of the combo by default in the form after posted
For eg., If i select the category 'Automobiles' in the combo and click search, after form submit, the combo should show the automobiles as default selected option. Please help me. Any help will be appreciated

Hello,
I have an ASP.NET web application which was previously published using the Publish feature of VS2008.
Recently I switched to "Web Deployment Projects" for VS2008. When deploying I noticed that the ~/App_GlobalResources directory is not copied to the release folder on build anymore.
How can I make sure the App_GlobalResources directory is copied along?
Eclipse Vaadin plugin has cool autobuild feature. Just clicking "restart application" in debug console will bring up to date application version to live.
Unfortunately importing maven generated vaadin project(using m2e) and copy-pasting .project buildCommands and natures from vaadin eclipse plugin generated project does not works.
I'm unnable to "Run on server...", tomcat does not deploy app for unknown reason. I can see app in wtpapps folder but it still does not deploys.
Am looking for open source Django apps in Google App engine. I want to play around with the code and learn in the process.
Not mandatory, but Would be great feature in the app:
- account registration/login
- image/file upload
I am using the jQuery sortable() feature to re-order a list of items. After an item is drug to a new location, I kick off an AJAX form post to the server to save the new order. How can I undo the sort (e.g. return the drug item to its original position in the list) if I receive an error message from the server?
Basically, I only want the re-order to "stick" if the server confirms that the changes were saved.
This is somehow subjective depending on the target translation language, but bear with me for a sec.
I have recently been involved in a translation project. The goal was to translate the strings of an MVC framework to the Greek language.
70% of the language strings of the framework where translated, however 30% where intentionally left out. The decision was that we will not translate error messages aimed towards the developer of the application.
The reasoning behind this (in short) was:
are aimed towards designers/programmers.
Programmers ( and even designers :) ) should have a basic
understanding of English, at least enough so
they can search on it on Google if
they do not know what it means. (racist?)
are aimed towards the developer
and in a perfect world should not be
displayed to the end user of the
application as they concern the
inner workings of the web
application itself. i.e "You must
set the database name in your
database config file."
and perhaps most importantly,
they make the life of the developer
harder when he tries to get more
information/help regarding the
error. For example the above error
yields 8 results in Google (in
quotes), whereas its Greek
translation yields exactly 0.
I know that this depends on the popularity of the target translation language and the application itself. For example I'm guessing that there are is vast amount of documentation regarding German SAP error messages (i know, i know, SAP IS German, but you get the point), as opposed to Greek Error Messages documentation regarding random application X which has about 500 installations worldwide.
So to summarize: When you develop language translation packs for your applications do you translate error messages? Do you only do for predominant languages like English/Spanish/German/French? Or do you live them intact? I'm not looking for the "right" or "correct" answer, I'm looking for a "best-practices" answer, or if this problem is defined in any "official" standard/policy that you have had experience with.
Hi there,
Recently I installed in Visual Studio 2010 the Power Tools Extension It's working great, however I have problems with my text coloring theme (Nightfall), and the extension's Colorized Parameter feature.
Since the theme text fore color is grey, when the Power Tools Extensions shows the Parameter Help tooltip using my text colors, it gets unreadable:
Is there a way to change Parameter Help background color?
