  • Sorting a string in array, making it sparsely populated.

    - by S1syphus
For example, say I have string like: duck duck duck duck goose goose goose dog And I want it to be as sparsely populated as possible, say in this case duck goose duck goose dog duck goose duck What sort of algorithm would you recommend? Snippets of code or general pointers would be useful, languages welcome Python, C++ and extra kudos if you have a way to do it in bash.

  • parsing a string based on specified identifiers

    - by jml
Let's say that I have the following text: input = "one aaa and bbb two bbbb er ... // three cccc" I would like to parse this into a group of variables that contain criteria = ["one", "two", "three"] v1,v2,v3 = input.split(criteria) I know that the example above won't work, but is there some utility in python that would allow me to use this sort of approach? I know what the identifiers will be in advance, so I would think that there has got to be a way to do this... Thanks for any help, jml

  • Why use "DLLSelfRegister" in VB deployment package?

    - by Craig Johnston
Why would you use DLLSelfRegister in a VB deployment package? I am trying to sort out possible conflict problems with a calendar control: msacal70.ocx. Apparently there is a conflict with newer Office calendar controls. I noticed the setup.lst for the VB deployment package uses DLLSelfRegister for this control. What are the effects of allowing a DLL to self-register and would removing DLLSelfRegister cause the ocx to register during installation of the package?

  • Delphi : Sorted List

    - by Sethu
I need to sort close to a 1,00,000 floating point entries in delphi. I am new to delphi and would like to know if there are any readymade solutions available. I tried a few language provided constructs and they take an inordinate amount of time to run to completion.(a 5-10 sec execution time is fine for the application)

  • Simple string pattern matching

    - by Joonas Trussmann
What's the easiest way of doing simple pattern matching a la .something.com something.com/ something.com/somefolder/*.jpg in the iPhone SDK? At this point it looks like I'm going to have to use a regular expression library of some sort, which is really overkill when all I need is simple wildcard matching. None of the standard NSString methods seem to be available on the iPhone.

  • G++, compiler warnings, c++ templates

    - by Ian
    During the compilatiion of the C++ program those warnings appeared: c:/MinGW/bin/../lib/gcc/mingw32/3.4.5/../../../../include/c++/3.4.5/bc:/MinGW/bin/../lib/gcc/mingw32/3.4.5/../../../../include/c++/3.4.5/bits/stl_algo.h:2317: instantiated from `void std::partial_sort(_RandomAccessIterator, _RandomAccessIterator, _RandomAccessIterator, _Compare) [with _RandomAccessIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<Object<double>**, std::vector<Object<double>*, std::allocator<Object<double>*> > >, _Compare = sortObjects<double>]' c:/MinGW/bin/../lib/gcc/mingw32/3.4.5/../../../../include/c++/3.4.5/bits/stl_algo.h:2506: instantiated from `void std::__introsort_loop(_RandomAccessIterator, _RandomAccessIterator, _Size, _Compare) [with _RandomAccessIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<Object<double>**, std::vector<Object<double>*, std::allocator<Object<double>*> > >, _Size = int, _Compare = sortObjects<double>]' c:/MinGW/bin/../lib/gcc/mingw32/3.4.5/../../../../include/c++/3.4.5/bits/stl_algo.h:2589: instantiated from `void std::sort(_RandomAccessIterator, _RandomAccessIterator, _Compare) [with _RandomAccessIterator = __gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator<Object<double>**, std::vector<Object<double>*, std::allocator<Object<double>*> > >, _Compare = sortObjects<double>]' io/../structures/objects/../../algorithm/analysis/../../structures/list/ObjectsList.hpp:141: instantiated from `void ObjectsList <T>::sortObjects(unsigned int, T, T, T, T, unsigned int) [with T = double]' I do not why, because all objects have only template parameter T, their local variables are also T. The only place, where I am using double is main. There are objects of type double creating and adding into the ObjectsList... Object <double> o1; ObjectsList <double> olist; olist.push_back(o1); .... T xmin = ..., ymin = ..., xmax = ..., ymax = ...; unsigned int n = ...; olist.sortAllObjects(xmin, ymin, xmax, ymax, n); and comparator template <class T> class sortObjects { private: unsigned int n; T xmin, ymin, xmax, ymax; public: sortObjects ( const T xmin_, const T ymin_, const T xmax_, const T ymax_, const int n_ ) : xmin ( xmin_ ), ymin ( ymin_ ), xmax ( xmax_ ), ymax ( ymax_ ), n ( n_ ) {} bool operator() ( const Object <T> *o1, const Object <T> *o2 ) const { T dmax = (std::max) ( xmax - xmin, ymax - ymin ); T x_max = ( xmax - xmin ) / dmax; T y_max = ( ymax - ymin ) / dmax; ... return ....; } representing ObjectsList method: template <class T> void ObjectsList <T> ::sortAllObjects ( const T xmin, const T ymin, const T xmax, const T ymax, const unsigned int n ) { std::sort ( objects.begin(), objects.end(), sortObjects <T> ( xmin, ymin, xmax, ymax, n ) ); }

  • How would I / could I obtain an reasonably comprehensive list of domain names?

    - by Simon
I know that domain names are constantly changing, and I know there are a lot of them, but there is clearly a region of the domain name space which is stable. How would I go about getting a list, even a very big one? Such a thing must logically exist, even if it is in a distributed form, because the web's DNS servers resolve names to IP addresses. So in theory if I could poll all the DNS servers in the world at a moment in time I would have the complete list of mapped names. Is there a practical way of doing that? As an aside, does anyone have any good estimates of how many domain names exist at the moment?

  • Display custom file format's metadata in Windows Explorer

    - by Benny Jobigan
When viewing a jpg or mp3 in Windows Explorer, the bottom pane shows metadata from the media file. Furthermore, for video and picture, the icon is shown as a preview of the media. Is there a way to add this kind of functionality to windows for custom file types that aren't supported by default in windows? Is there a certain sort of plugin or extension that must be written? If so, how is it implemented? Thank you.

  • IIS Manager IIS6 Rights Management on Windows Server 2003

    - by Chris
We are using a dedicated hosting provider to host several of our public websites. There are two development teams/divisions within our company who each maintain public websites on these same servers. Is there a way through ACLs or some sort of rights management (e.g. individual logins) that I would only be able to see and maintain only my public sites and the other development team could only see and maintain their sites? Thanks! Chris

  • How many repositories should I use to maintain my scripts under version control?

    - by romandas
I mainly code small programs for myself, but recently, I've been starting to code for my peers on my team. To that end, I've started using a Mercurial repository to maintain my code in some form of version control (specifically, Tortoise-Hg on Windows). I have many small scripts, each in their own directory, all under one repository. However, while reading Joel's Hg Tutorial, I tried cloning a directory for one of my bigger scripts to create a "stable" version and found I couldn't do it because the directory wasn't itself a repository. So, I assume (and please correct me if I'm mistaken) that in order to use cloning properly, I'd have to create a repository for each script/directory. But.. would that be a "good idea" or a future maintenance nightmare waiting to happen? Succinctly, do I keep all my (unrelated) scripts in one repository, or should I create a repository for each? Or some unknown third option?

  • Joomla user registration plugin

    - by Yuval A
I am interested in customizing the authentication method for a Joomla website. There is a comprehensive tutorial on how to make a custom authentication plug-in, however a plug-in of that sort customizes the behavior on each log-in. The behavior I need to implement should occur only once during registration. Is there any way to implement this?

  • quicktime movie layering issues

    - by DanC
I have a site (link below) where the clients work displays on a long horizontal page. The menu is fixed on the left hand side and the images disappear under the menu when scrolling across. The client has now uploaded quicktime movies which do not go under the menu like the images but scroll over the menu. http://www.calebchurchill.com/projects/horny_dog/ I have tried to sort this using z-index but am so far been unsuccessful. Any ideas?

Why? thanks for any help. EDIT: CORRECING A TYPO.

  • Is there a Google 3d Warehouse API?

    - by Jayesh
Does anyone know if there is an official or unofficial API for Google 3D warehouse. I know of the iPhone app NaviCAD, which shows Collada models from Google Warehouse - it has search, most-viewed, most-recent functionality; so I guess it is using some sort of API to get that data. But I couldn't find any auch api after searching around. Do you know if there is any?

  • Javascript to encode cookie contents into a get or post?

    - by beeky
I want to pass cookie contents from one domain to another. I don't want to get involved with actual cross-domain cookies. I was thinking of reading the cookie on the domain that sets it and then sending it as an encrypted JSON object to the domain that wants to use it. Is there an accepted way of doing this and/or a toolkit that handles this sort of thing? Thanks for any help or advice, -=b

  • Is there a Grid plugin for jQuery that has similiar capabilities to the Ext-JS Grid?

    - by Ehrann Mehdan
One of the most appealing features of Ext-JS is the Grid control in my opinion. I was searching for something free that does something close and have set my hopes on jQuery. I haven't found a jQuery (or other LGPL compatible) Table / Grid plugin that allows to: Reorder columns by dragging Resize columns by dragging Add or Remove columns on the fly Have a default good looking UI (subjective, but Ext-JS look I think is a concensus) In addition to the rest most grid controls have (Sort, Paging etc) Is there a free (LGPL) jQuery plugin that does the above?

  • Which full-text search package should I use for SQLite3?

    - by Benjamin Pollack
SQLite3 appears to come with three different full-text search engines, called FTS1, FTS2, and FTS3. The documentation available on the website mentions that FTS1 is stable, FTS2 is in development, and that you should use FTS2. Examples I find online use FTS3, which is in CVS, and not documented versus FTS2. None of the full-text search engines come with the amalgamated source, as near as I can tell. So, my question: which of these three engines, if any, should I use for full-text indexing in SQLite? Or should I simply use a third-party tool like Sphinx, or a custom solution in Lucene, instead?

  • DataSource for Tomcat web app, Spring and Hibernate

    - by EugeneP
Web app runs on Tomcat. Datasource is configured with Spring configuration, and is used by Hibernate. If we cannot use JNDI, what would you suggest to use as a DataSource? org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.DriverManagerDataSource will be ok? It's not very good, but sincerely speaking, it can be used on production server, right? Just a bit of headache with too frequent connection reopening. Also, we can use BasicDataSource from Apache. It's much better of course, but here's the question. IF WE DON'T USE JNDI, THEN: If every instance of an app will create its own copy of a DataSource, and every DataSource can have 5 open connections, what do we get? Num_of_running_apps * Num_of_max_active_connections = max active open connection on a DB for this user? Second question: from the perspective of Hibernate, is there any difference about what datasource implementation is used? Will it work with no matter what datasource perfectly and in a stable way?
