• GNU watch - how do I make it read my environment (aliases, functions, etc)

  This one has been bugging me for a while: I want to use the marvelous GNU watch command to run a few custom aliases and functions that are defined in my .bashrc, but it is never able to run anything except bash built-ins or binaries. watch -d foo The output is always: foo: command not found How can I make it inherit my environment or use the .bashrc? • Is it worth putting high-performance drives in a home NAS?

  I'm looking at a QNAP NAS setup, and in the options for disks they have the very enterprisey Western Digital RE3. I'll be using the box for backing up my laptop, and streaming media either to the laptop or a media device using the built-in media server, possibly both at once. My question is, would I notice any benefit at all in splashing out for the high-performance drive, or should I stick with something quiet and cool (and cheap) like the Caviar Green?

• Simple tool to graph memory usage?

  Is there a script that will show memory usage as a graph, for example as a pie-chart, with each process being being a separate slice? I'm not looking for something like Munin to graph memory usage over time, but rather show the memory usage per-process at a single point in time. To make my request even more obscure, it is for a headless server (so no X applications). The simplest way would be to write a PNG file, or possibly an HTML file (which could use Javascript to allow the filtering of processes, changing between graph-types and so on)

• Squid appears to be running storeurl_rewrite_program, but not using the result.

  I've built a storeurl_rewrite_program (which strips some changing query-strings), and verified from logging in the script that it is being run and generating the desired modified url. However, access.log continues to show TCP_MISS and store.log has SWAPOUT with the unmodified url. Why would Squid run the rewriter and then throw away the result?

My problem is that I've upgraded to 2010 Express, but my company is not ready to buy the full version yet.   I have a server running Debian Linux which has a built in serial port which is coming up as ttyS0. I have a plug in PCI card with two serial ports that are being registered with Linux as ttyS2 and ttyS3. Unfortunately I am trying to run some software which assumes that ttyS0 and ttyS1 are available. Is it possible to remap the serial port device names (using a udev rule?) such that ttyS0 remains as it is and ttyS2 becomes ttyS1?

• Login to a Windows 7 Computer with disabled Administrator account.

  I just built a Windows 7 Image using sysprep and a custom answer file that's supposed to attach to our domain. However, it did not attach to the domain and so I have a computer that has been automatically setup via unattend.xml and is sitting at a login screen; with no active users (Administrator account says it is disabled). Is there a way I can activate the Administrator account and rescue this machine or do I have to rebuild it from scratch?

I know for a fact that there must be some API to access it (for Tx at least) as the irRemote works. This suggests a (10.4 only?) solution, but although i have the developer tools installed i don't have /Library/Spotlight/SourceCode.mdimporter.
