  • Level Creator for iPhone Game

    - by atomical
I'm making an iPhone game that has several maps with graphics attached. The graphics may allow the player to pass through them or block them. Is there an application for OS X that will allow me to pass some of this work off to a designer without having to reinvent the wheel and develop a map creator.

  • How do I preserve folds in VIM when cutting and pasting?

    - by eeeeaaii
In vim, you can create a fold with zf, so if is %, you can neatly fold a delimited block. is there a way to select some text in visual mode and automatically fold that? I've noticed that if I select a closed fold and use dd to delete it, then go somewhere else and use P to paste it, the fold will disappear and the fold will be expanded. I want to cut the folded stuff and paste it and have it paste with the folds still intact and closed.

  • Confused about Base class libary and Framework Class Library

    - by n0vic3c0d3r
Is ADO.NET and ASP.NET a part of Base Class Library? The information given in wikipedia looks ambiguous to me. In the figure, it is shown as a separate block. What is the difference between Base Class Library(BCL) and Framework Class Library(FCL)? Is FCL as a part of .NET Framework? If so why is FCL not shown in the figure as part of .NET framework? Got confused!!

  • What is the performance difference between blocks and callbacks?

    - by Don
One of the things that block objects, introduced in Snow Leopard, are good for is situations that would previously have been handled with callbacks. The syntax is much cleaner for passing context around. However, I haven't seen any information on the performance implications of using blocks in this manner. What, if any, performance pitfalls should I look out for when using blocks, particularly as a replacement for a C-style callback?

  • Converting text to bits (1's and 0's)

    - by Morano88
I'm implementing an MD-5 Hashing algorithm and I want to convert the text I have to bits so I can start manipulating them. As you know Hashing require taking block of bits and then manipulating them. There are many ways to do that but I can't determine the best/easiest way to just convert the text (string) into array of bits. Any clue ? In C#

  • Developing multiple user interfaces for an application

    - by denizkocak
I want to develop an application which has a graphical user interface that could be developed by using different widget toolkits. For example I want to use Qt, GTK+ or even ncurses as a building block for my user interface for the same application. Moreover users could choose which GUI implementation will be used during the next startup of the application without recompiling it first. I wonder what are possible design strategies and design patterns used in the implementation of this design?

  • I get the warning "Format not a string literal and no format arguments" at NSLog -- how can I correc

    - by dsobol
Hello, I get the warning "Format not a string literal and no format arguments" on the NSLog call in the following block: (void) alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", buttonIndex]); } I have read in another post here that this error message indicates an insecure use of NSLog. Could someone point me in the direction of a properly formatted string for this? Thanks for any and all assistance! Regards, Steve O'Sullivan

  • Approaching Java from a Ruby perspective

    - by Travis
There are plenty of resources available to a Java developer for getting a jump-start into Ruby/Rails development. The reverse doesn't appear to be true. What resources would you suggest for getting up-to-date on the current state of java technologies? How about learning how to approach DRY (don't repeat yourself) without the use of metaprogramming? Or how to approach various scenarios where a ruby developer is used to passing in a function (proc/lambda/block) as an argument (callbacks, etc)?

  • How can I fix this touch event / draw loop "deadlock"?

    - by Josh
Just want to start out by saying this seems like a great site, hope you guys can help! I'm trying to use the structure laid out in LunarLander to create a simple game in which the user can drag some bitmaps around on the screen (the actual game is more complex, but that's not important). I ripped out the irrelevant parts of LanderLander, and set up my own bitmap drawing, something like BoardThread (an inner class of BoardView): run() { while(mRun) { canvas = lockSurfaceHolder... syncronized(mSurfaceHolder) { /* drawStuff using member position fields in BoardView */ } unlockSurfaceHolder } } My drawStuff simply walks through some arrays and throws bitmaps onto the canvas. All that works fine. Then I wanted to start handling touch events so that when the user presses a bitmap, it is selected, when the user unpresses a bitmap, it is deselected, and if a bitmap is selected during a touch move event, the bitmap is dragged. I did this stuff by listening for touch events in the BoardView's parent, BoardActivity, and passing them down into the BoardView. Something like In BoardView handleTouchEvent(MotionEvent e) { synchronized(mSurfaceHolder) { /* Modify shared member fields in BoardView so BoardThread can render the bitmaps */ } } This ALSO works fine. I can drag my tiles around the screen no problem. However, every once in a while, when the app first starts up and I trigger my first touch event, the handleTouchEvent stops executing at the synchronized line (as viewed in DDMS). The drawing loop is active during this time (I can tell because a timer changes onscreen), and it usually takes several seconds or more before a bunch of touch events come through the pipeline and everything is fine again. This doesn't seem like deadlock to me, since the draw loop is constantly going in and out of its syncronized block. Shouldn't this allow the event handling thread to grab a lock on mSurfaceHolder? What's going on here? Anyone have suggestions for improving how I've structured this? Some other info. This "hang" only ever occurs on first touch event after activity start. This includes on orientation change after restoreState has been called. Also, I can remove EVERYTHING within the syncronized block in the event handler, and it will still get hung up at the syncronized call. Thanks!

  • How to replace a region in emacs with yank buffer contents?

    - by Mad Wombat
When I use VIM or most modeless editors (Eclipse, NetBeans etc.) I frequently do the following. If I have similar text blocks and I need to change them all, I will change one, copy it (or use non-deleting yank), select next block I need and paste the changed version over it. If I do the same thing in emacs (select region and paste with C-y), it doesn't replace the region, it just pastes at the cursor position. What is the way to do this in emacs?

  • User authentication in Django. Problems with is_authenticated

    - by tim
    I have one problem with users menu. So, I want, that authenticated user can see his/her profile page and logout (links) in menu. It works (when I logging in) on index page: index, page1, profile, logout ,but, if I go to the, for example, page1 I can see in menu: index, page1, login, not profile and logout. How to fix it? in urls: url(r'^accounts/login/$', 'django.contrib.auth.views.login' ), url(r'^accounts/logout/$', 'django.contrib.auth.views.logout_then_login' ), url(r'^accounts/profile/$', 'my_app.views.profile' ), in views: def profile(request): if not request.user.is_authenticated(): return HttpResponseRedirect("/accounts/login/") else: user = request.user.is_authenticated() return render_to_response('profile.html',locals()) Part of index.html: {% if user.is_authenticated or request.user.is_authenticated %} <li><a href="/accounts/profile/">Profile</a></li> <li><a href="/accounts/logout/">logout</a></li> {% else %} <li><a href="/accounts/login/">login</a></li> {% endif %} login.html: {% extends "index.html" %} {% load url from future %} {% block application %} {% if form.errors %} <p>Try one more time</p> {% endif %} <form method="post" action="{% url 'django.contrib.auth.views.login' %}"> {% csrf_token %} <table> <tr> <td>{{ form.username.label_tag }}</td> <td>{{ form.username }}</td> </tr> <tr> <td>{{ form.password.label_tag }}</td> <td>{{ form.password }}</td> </tr> </table> <input type="submit" value="Login" /> <input type="hidden" name="next" value="{{ next }}" /> </form> {% endblock %} profile.html: {% extends "index.html" %} {% block application %} {% if request.user.is_authenticated %} <p>Welcome, {{ request.user.username }}.   • Mysqld shutting down by itself

    - by AJ Naidas
I'm running a Wordpress Blog that gets medium-high traffic. It is hosted in an Ubuntu Server 2GB Memory 2 Core Processor 40GB SSD Disk, 3TB Transfer. The problem is that MySQL shuts down by itself after an hour or two. I had to restart mysql each and every time this happens. I checked the logs and this is what I found: 140612 6:48:14 [Warning] Using unique option prefix myisam-recover instead of myisam-recover-options is deprecated and will be removed in a future release. Please use the full name instead. 140612 6:48:14 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled. 140612 6:48:14 InnoDB: The InnoDB memory heap is disabled 140612 6:48:14 InnoDB: Mutexes and rw_locks use GCC atomic builtins 140612 6:48:14 InnoDB: Compressed tables use zlib 1.2.3.4 140612 6:48:14 InnoDB: Initializing buffer pool, size = 1.4G InnoDB: mmap(1502412800 bytes) failed; errno 12 140612 6:48:14 InnoDB: Completed initialization of buffer pool 140612 6:48:14 InnoDB: Fatal error: cannot allocate memory for the buffer pool 140612 6:48:14 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error. 140612 6:48:14 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. 140612 6:48:14 [ERROR] Unknown/unsupported storage engine: InnoDB 140612 6:48:14 [ERROR] Aborting 140612 6:48:14 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown complete judging by this line: 140612 6:48:14 InnoDB: Fatal error: cannot allocate memory for the buffer pool I suspect that this is a memory problem, but I would like to hear from the experts here before I conclude. Is this a lack of memory problem? Do you think the value of max_connections in my.cnf (currently 100) is a potential cause and needs increasing? TIA.

  • PCI configuration method error (Linux Kernel)

    - by user326580
(I'm not sure if here is the best place for that question, so I will be pleased if anyone suggests me a more proper forum for that.) I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.4 in a netbook (from an usb), but the kernel stops very early in initialization process. After two days of research, I've found that it boots with the parameter pci=conf2 but not with the default conf1 method. Nevertheless, after kernel boot, it seems that Ubuntu can't find usb devices and I'm not be able to install it. Trying with Debian, its a graphic installer and I found that the mouse isn't working neither.I think pci devices are not working. I tried about 50% of kernel pci boot options in the kernel-parameters file (in conjunction with the implicit default conf1) without luck. Any suggestions? PS: The problem is the same with kernel 2.6 or 3.

  • IIS - IP Address and Domain Name Restrictions - not blocking IP addresses

    - by Funky
I have added an IP address in IIS7 in the IP address and domain restrictions. From what I have read this should block all traffic to the folder apart from the allowed IP address. For some reason this does not work. If I access the section from my work computer all ok, when I access it from my phone I can still see the page. Does anyone have any idea why IIS is not blocking all the other IPs out? Thanks

  • JPanels, JFrames, and Windows, Oh my!

    - by Jonathan
Simply stated, I am trying to make a game I am working on full-screen. I have the following code I am trying to use: GraphicsEnvironment ge = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment(); GraphicsDevice gs = ge.getDefaultScreenDevice(); if(!gs.isFullScreenSupported()) { System.out.println("full-screen not supported"); } Frame frame = new Frame(gs.getDefaultConfiguration()); Window win = new Window(frame); try { // Enter full-screen mode gs.setFullScreenWindow(win); win.validate(); } Problem with this is that I am working within a class that extends JPanel, and while I have a variable of type Frame, I have none of type Window within the class. My understanding of JPanel is that it is a Window of sorts, but I cannot pass 'this' into gs.setFullScreenWindow(Window win)... How should I go about doing this? Is there any easy way of calling that, or a similar method, using a JPanel? Is there a way I can get something of type Window from my JPanel? - EDIT: The following method changes the state of JFrame and is called every 10ms: public void paintScreen() { Graphics g; try{ g = this.getGraphics(); //get Panel's graphic context if(g == null) { frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setExtendedState(frame.getExtendedState()|JFrame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH); frame.add(this); frame.pack(); frame.setResizable(false); frame.setTitle("Game Window"); frame.setVisible(true); } if((g != null) && (dbImage != null)) { g.drawImage(dbImage, 0, 0, null); } Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().sync(); //sync the display on some systems g.dispose(); } catch (Exception e) { if(blockError) { blockError = false; } else { System.out.println("Graphics context error: " + e); } } } I anticipate that there may be a few redundancies or unnecessary calls after the if(g==null) statement (all the frame.somethingOrOther()s), any cleanup advice would be appreciated... Also, the block error is what it seems. I am ignoring an error. The error only occurs once, and this works fine when setup to ignore the first instance of the error... For anyone interested I can post additional info there if anyone wants to see if that block can be removed, but i'm not concerned... I might look into it later.

  • Plugin for R# similar to CodeRush "statement highlight"

    - by KiwiBastard
See here http://www.hanselman.com/blog/InSearchOfThePerfectMonospacedProgrammersFontInconsolata.aspx - for want of a better description - the statement block highlighting - eg in the pics on the link the "statement blocks" are grouped with a vertical line. I understand this is a feature of CodeRush - does R# have either anything similar, or a plugin to do the same?
