  • T4 Controller Template to trigger View Generation

    I have been using some customized MVC templates that really improve my productivity. However, I would like to take it to the next level. I generate a controller template for each table in my app. The controller has Edit, List, Details, and Delete actions. What I would like to do, is at the same time trigger the generation of the views for those actions. Does anyone have a reference or have suggestions on how this can be done?

  • Visual Studio confused by server code inside javascript

    I ran into an annoying problem: the following code gives a warning in Visual Studio. <script type="text/javascript"> var x = <%: ViewData["param"] %>; </script> The warning is "Expected expression". Visual Studion gets confused, and all the javascript code after that is giving tons of warnings. Granted, it's all warnings, and it works perfectly fine in runtime - but it is very easy to miss real warnings among dozen of false positives. It was working the same way in VS2008, and it wasn't fixed in VS2010. Does anybody know if there is a workaround, or a patch?

  • How can I display the clicked products by user on a list in another view?

    I am using MVC3 Viewmodel pattern with Entity Framework on my webbapplication. My Index View is list of products with image, price and description and etc. Products with the information I mentioned above is in div boxes with a button that says "buy". I will be working with 2 views one that is the Index View that will display all the products and the other view that will display the products that got clicked by the buy button. What I am trying to achieve is when a user click on buy button the products should get stored in the other view that is cart view and be displayed. I have problems on how to begin the coding for that part. The index View with products is done and now its the buy button function left to do but I have no idea how to start. But I still I have no idea how I can do that so when somebody click on the buy button I store the ID where? and how do I use it so I can achieve what I want to do? Right now I have been trying to do following thing in my IndexController: public ActionResult cart(int id) { var SelectedProducts = repository.GetProductByID(id); return View(); } What I did here is that I get the product by the id. So when someone press on the temp "x" Actionlink I will recieve the product. All I know is that something like that is needed to achieve what im trying to do but after that I have no idea what to do and in what kind of structure I should do it. Any kind of help is appreciated alot! Short Scenario: looking at the Index I see 5 products, I choose to buy 3 products so I click on three "Buy" buttons. Now I click on the "Cart" that is located on the nav menu. New View pops up and I see the three products that I clicked to buy.

  • What is the best way to get support from microsoft developers [closed]

    I have a problem at my production web, that I am not able to solve. I am not able to reproduce the problem in stage or development. It only appears when the website is under heavy load. I think it is solvable if somebody who has a very good understanding of the internals of FormsAuthentication would have a look at it by logging into our system. It should be at least Scottgu! Somebody told me that Microsoft Premier Support is a good choice for this kind of problems. We have no MSDN subscription or other connection to microsoft that enables us to use MPS. Is there a way to get support on a incident base? Are there other ways to get this kind of support? Is this possible? (Note that this is a partial repost of this question but the question I'm asking here was never answered there.)

I created some users with the integrated tool, and the login is perfectly working. But now what I want to do is to give administrator the capability to create, modify, delete users. A strange think I noticed while debugging, is that when I enter the Button1_Click method, Membership.GetUser(userName) returns me values from my precedent attempt ! I don't really understand what I'm missing. Does someone have a clue ? Thanks in advance !

    My site allows anonymous users. I saw that under heavy load user get sometimes profile values from other users. This happens for anonymous users. Just to be safe I removed dependency injection for the FormsAuthentication. I dont use OutputCaching.   • Inject Html Into a View Programmatically

    Hi, I have a tricky problem and I'm not sure where in the view rendering process to attempt this. I am building a simple blog/CMS in MVC and I would like to inject a some html (preferably a partial view) into the page if the user is logged in as an admin (and therefore has edit privileges). I obviously could add render partials to master pages etc. But in my system master pages/views are the "templates" of the CMS and therefore should not contain CMS specific <% % markup. I would like to hook in to some part of the rendering process and inject the html myself. Does anyone have any idea how to do this in MVC? Where would be the best point, ViewPage, ViewEngine?   • How do I get a delete trigger working using fluent API in CTP5?

    I am having trouble getting referential integrity dialled down enough to allow my delete trigger to fire. I have a dependent entity with three FKs. I want it to be deleted when any of the principal entities is deleted. For principal entities Role and OrgUnit (see below) I can rely on conventions to create the required one-many relationship and cascade delete does what I want, ie: Association is removed when either principal is deleted. For Member, however, I have multiple cascade delete paths (not shown here) which SQL Server doesn't like, so I need to use fluent API to disable cascade deletes. Here is my (simplified) model: public class Association { public int id { get; set; } public int roleid { get; set; } public virtual Role role { get; set; } public int? memberid { get; set; } public virtual Member member { get; set; } public int orgunitid { get; set; } public int OrgUnit orgunit { get; set; } } public class Role { public int id { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Association> associations { get; set; } } public class Member { public int id { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Association> associations { get; set; } } public class Organization { public int id { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Association> associations { get; set; } } My first run at fluent API code looks like this: protected override void OnModelCreating(System.Data.Entity.ModelConfiguration.ModelBuilder modelBuilder) { DbDatabase.SetInitializer<ConfDB_Model>(new ConfDBInitializer()); modelBuilder.Entity<Member>() .HasMany(m=>m.assocations) .WithOptional(a=>a.member) .HasForeignKey(a=>a.memberId) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); } My seed function creates the delete trigger: protected override void Seed(ConfDB_Model context) { context.Database.SqlCommand("CREATE TRIGGER MemberAssocTrigger ON dbo.Members FOR DELETE AS DELETE Assocations FROM Associations, deleted WHERE Associations.memberId = deleted.id"); } PROBLEM: When I run this, create a Role, a Member, an OrgUnit, and an Association tying the three together all is fine. When I delete the Role, the Association gets cascade deleted as I expect. HOWEVER when I delete the Member I get an exception with a referential integrity error. I have tried setting ON CASCADE SET NULL because my memberid FK is nullable but SQL complains again about multiple cascade paths, so apparently I can cascade nothing in the Member-Association relationship. To get this to work I must add the following code to Seed(): context.Database.SqlCommand("ALTER TABLE dbo.ACLEntries DROP CONSTRAINT member_aclentries"); As you can see, this drops the constraint created by the model builder. QUESTION: this feels like a complete hack. Is there a way using fluent API for me to say that referential integrity should NOT be checked, or otherwise to get it to relax enough for the Member delete to work and allow the trigger to be fired? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Although fluent APIs may be "fluent" I find them far from intuitive.

    I have an object called Time public class Time{ public int Hour {get;set;} public int Minute {get;set;} public static Time Parse(string timeString){ //reads the ToString()'s previous output and returns a Time object } override protected string ToString(){ //puts out something like 14:50 (as in 2:50PM) } } So what I want is for the automatic model binding on the Edit or Create action to set this Time instance up from a string (i.e. feed the Parse method with the string and return the result). The reason I am doing this is that I will have a DropDownList with selectable times. The value of each option will be the parser readable string. Can anyone provide an example BindModel method from the IModelBinder interface?

  • Membership.ValidateUser always returns false after upgrade to VS 2010 / .NET 4.0

    Not sure whether this pertains to VS 2010 or to the upgraded framework, but... we are using the Oracle membership provider to authenticate users. Prior to the upgrade everything worked fine, but now Membership.ValidateUser(user, password) returns false despite valid credentials. There is no exception thrown, so it's hard to determine what the problem might be. The website administration tool in VS 2010 is still able to manage users and roles (more or less), so I have no reason to question connectivity. What might the problem be?

    Hi, I'm having problems retrieving the values of a selectlist in my form collection. I've tried making a viewmodel with an attribute with the same name as the select list. I'm honestly just realizing I REALLY don't understand how model binding works with selectlists. I've just been assuming that the following conventions apply: Name the select list the same thing as the attribute on the model you want it to bind to. Apart from that, I really don't get it. I've looked at several books on it and they're useless frankly. How does a select list work with a) form collection and b) a particular model?

  • OpenExeConfiguration Path Issue

    I'm trying to load an web.config from a server. Its placed at: \server\folders\web.config when i try this: ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(@"\\server\folders\web.config"); it searches for: web.config.config and fails. ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(@"\\server\folders\web"); it fails, because there is no folder \server\folders\web\ So i tried several things and it seems as its checking wether the file the path is pointing on exists, and afterwards it appliers a .config and gets the config file. Just for fun i created an web.loaders file, and a web.loaders.config file. with ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(@"\\server\folders\web.local"); it loads the \server\folders\web.local.config perfectly, but throws Exceptions without the web.local file. So there a many ways to get this small thing loaded, but isn't there a more nice one than using a temp .web file or something? Any help i highly appreciated, yours Harry

I want to display another Indicator in my SiteMapPath bar which shows a post back is happening no matter what.     I am very new to MVC and just learning the basics. I have been following along in Nerd Dinner and used the demo as a way to create my own app. I have created a page that lists out some food items with calories, fat, protein,etc... (http://rjsfitness.net/CalorieList) This is one of my own personal sites that I set up to test out MVC. I got a lot of it working but I am stuck on the textbox with a search button. If I manually type the url (http://rjsfitness.net/CalorieList/Search/choc) I get the right listing. Why isn't my button click using the right routing and giving me the search results?
