  I'm really new to sysmtemtap. just want to install and try systemtap on my lab server. My Linux release version is centos 6.3 and kernel version 2.6.32-279.5.2.el6.i686. • Allocated memory address clash

  Hi, i don't understand how this happen. This is portion of my code.. int isGoal(Node *node, int startNode){ int i; . . } When i debug this using gdb i found out that 'i' was allocated at the memory address that have been previously allocated. (gdb)print &node->path->next $26 = (struct intNode **) 0xffbff2f0 (gdb) print &i $22 = (int *) 0xffbff2f0 node-path-next has been already defined outside this function. But as u can see they share the same address which at some point make the pointer point to another place when the i counter is changed. I compiled it using gcc on solaris platform Any helps would be really appreciated..

• Very large log files in IIS 7.x

  Hello, I had a site stop working today and when I RDP'd into the server I saw a warning about low disk space. The first thing I checked was the inetpub folder where the log files are stored and sure enough it was huge, 40 GB huge. I do clean the files monthly but what is causing a day's worth of logging on a medium activity site (www.vbdotnetforums.com) to create 300-500 MB log files? I do have everything being logged so my SmarterStats software gives me the most info, but are there specific things I should/can turn off that is causing the most growth in these log files? Also, sure would be nice if Microsoft someday had some sort of log file management such as deleting log files after they exceed a certain size (total), X days, etc. We all have to come up with some solution to delete the old ones manually. • How to reduce compilation times with Boost Asio

  Boost.Asio is great library but it has one huge drawback -- extreamly slow compilation times. A simple implementation (really simple) of HTTP protocol (about 1k lines of code) requires about 13.5s to compile under GCC 4.4! I tryed to use PCH but it does not improve compilation times too much (about 1s. only). So are there any tutorials on how to make Boost.Asio compilation times faster? For example what headers should I exactly include for what class. I use for example: io_service, tcp::ip::sockets, tcp::ip::acceptor, deadline_timer, buffers and few functions like async_read, async_write. Any suggestions? P.S.: I do use pimpl whenever I can.

• unwanted password prompt pops up on web server?

  my web server randomly asks for a password as though basic authentication is turned on. It's an IIS 7 web server and you have to specifically install basic authentication in the roles section. It isn't installed. The message that pops up is "Warning: This server is requesting that your username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)" I cannot reproduce the problem but a number of customers have reported the problem and it only seems to appear to a small number of customers. It pops up when they visit the homepage, nothing is generated by the IIS logs to indicate a password box is being served (e.g. no 401 errors etc) Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks

• C# Accessing controls from an outside class without "public"

  I know this has been asked before but I believe my situation is a bit different -- or I don't understand the answers given. I have spent about 4 hours working on this solidly and finally realized, I just don't know what to do. I have 2 Forms (Form1, Settings) and a class I created called Themes. I have get/set properties that currently work but are all within Form1 and I would like to move as much code related to themeing as I can OUTSIDE of Form1 and into Themes.cs. Changing Theme: To change the theme, the user opens up the Settings form and selects a theme from the dropdown menu and presses the 'Set' button -- this all works, but now I want to move it into my own class and I can't get the code to compile. Here is example code that works before moving -- note that this is only 2 different controls I want to modify but there are about 30 total.   I have fastcgi installed and running. I downloaded a developerkit from fastcgi.com. It had some examples in it. One of the example files echos some stuff. It required a .libs and a .deps I put those folders along with a echo.fcgi file and into the webroot/cgi-bin. If I got to the echo.fcgi url, it works great. I created a simple c file that prints hello world. I compile it using gcc -Wall -o main -lfcgi main.c What do I do with it now? Does it require something like a perl script or php script to be executed. Or, should I just be able to put it in the webroot/cgi-bin folder and go to it's url?

  I need to script the install of MariaDB using the rpm command in CentOS 6.4. I can't use yum since it's going to be an offline install so there's no access to the repository. The only MySQL package installed is mysql-libs as various other packages in CentOS depend on it.   Sometimes I want to build Python or GCC from scratch just for fun, but I can't parse the errors I get, or don't understand statements like "libtool link error # XYZ". What are some tricks that unix/systems gurus use to compile software of this size from scratch? Of course I already do things like read config.log (if there is one), google around, and post in newsgroups. I'm looking for things that either make the process go smoother or get me more information about the error to help me understand and fix it. It's a little tough to get this information sometimes, because some compile bugs can be quite obscure. What can I do at that point?

  I'm tying SVN to LDAPS by way of Apache. I've run openssl s_client --host $host --port 636 and received an SSL certificate, so it doesn't appear to be a firewall problem. • What is the best way to prove a processor is overheating / running too hot?

  Hello all! recently I noticed that my sister's laptop was getting very very hot when it sat on my lap, she had also complained that it just turned off on her without warning... so I decided to run Coretemp and Everest to test processor temperature.(It is an AMD Athlon X2... not sure what it runs at.) It seemed to idle around 75-80 Celsius and under 100% load it peaked at 115 ! I realize that laptops run a lot hotter than desktop but I think that is ridiculously hot...am I right? Anyway... Her laptop is still under warranty and I was wondering what is the best way to prove to future shop that it is running that hot. Should I give them a printout of a stress test or something like that? Or should I just bring it in to them and tell them what I think is wrong and let them test it. Thanks for the help!

• Partial compilation of openwrt project

  I would like to get an idea or reference to compile only subset on the openwrt project. i am aware of the menuconfig utility but this is not enough for my goal. i would like to compile only the tool-chain (binutils + gcc + glibc) for a specific target (ar71xx) and also the kernel. now, after looking in the makefiles etc, i have noticed that most of the work in actually patching the toolchain and the kernel and then compile it. is there any option to stop build process after the patching so i can have only the source code patched and i can write my own make file to compile it?

• OS X contains heapsort in stdlib.h which conflicts with heapsort in sort library

  I'm using Ariel Faigon's sort library, found here: http://www.yendor.com/programming/sort/ I was able to get all my code working on Linux, but unfortunately, when trying to compile with GCC on Mac, its default stdlib.h contains another heapsort, which unfortunately results in a conflicting types error. Here's the man page for Apple heapsort: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man3/heapsort.3.html Commenting out the heapsort in the sort library header causes a whole heap of problems. (pardon the pun) I also briefly thought of commenting out my use of stdlib.h, but I use malloc and realloc, so that won't work at all. Any ideas?

• Opening Office 2007 files using a Vista or Win7 client on a server 2008 file share causes lockups an

  I think this mostly happens when trying to open files opened by other users. In the XP/2003 days you would get some kind of warning about a locked/read only file. With 7/Vista/2008 I'm just seeing clients hang (Word just sits there) and if I go into the file share and attempt to right-click on the file, explorer hangs for several minutes. I tried disabling AV on the file server as well as locally. No luck. I've read that SMB2.0 might be the culprit here, but even testing that solution means disabling it on both the client and server, and requires a server reboot. Does this sound like an SMB2 issue? The server is 2008 SP1. The clients are Win7 vanilla and Vista SP2 with all the current updates. Office 2007 SP2 with all updates. Thanks.

• Links won't open in Outlook

  About a week ago Chrome (my default browser) stopped working and I ended up reinstalling. After that, however, links in Outlook 2007, when clicked, no longer open. Instead, I get a warning that reads: General failure. The URL was: URL. Application not found. I presume that there is some MIME or file type association that needs to be configured at the OS level, but I've not had any luck so far. My operating system is Windows 7. Any ideas? EDIT #1 Wayne Johnston suggested I set Chrome as my default browser, but when I go to the Set Default Programs screen in Windows 7 (via Control Panel) I do not see Chrome in the list of programs. How do I get it to show up there?

• Stackless installation and configuration with DJango

  I am trying to run a DJango Command Extension which uses stackless. I have installed Stackless Python (compiled with python 2.5) so whenever I type python2.5 at the console it fires up indicating that the version is Python 2.5.2 Stackless 3.1b3 060516 (python-2.52:72942, May 26 2009, 23:07:34) [GCC 4.3.3] on linux2 But in my eclipse I have configured my django application to run with python2.6. Specifically in the PyDev settings. So obviously when I mention import stackless it says that there is no such package. The problem is even if I add the '/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages' directory it does not import stackless. What is the solution to this issue ?

  I'm working on a program where I try to pass parameters by reference. I'm trying to pass a 2D int array and a 1D char array by reference. Function prototype: void foo (int* (&a)[2][2], char* (&b)[4]) Function call: foo (a, b); However, when I compile the code with -ansi and -Wall flags on gcc, I get the following errors: foo.c: At top level: error: expected ‘)’ before ‘&’ token error: expected ‘;’, ‘,’ or ‘)’ before ‘char’ foo.c: In function ‘main’: error: too many arguments to function ‘foo’ I've stripped out the rest of the code of my program and concentrated on the bits which throw up the errors. • Undefined symbol sunOglCurPrimTablePtr in Solaris-x86

  I was porting a C++ program from Solaris Sparc to Solaris x86. The program utilizes OpenGL library and the compilation is performed in a Sun Ultra27 workstation with the default GCC (3.4.3) and OpenGL library come with the machine. However, the following OpenGL call couldn't found while linking: Undefined symbol first referenced in file sunOglCurPrimTablePtr ../../lib/libgltt.so sunOglCurrentContext ../../lib/libgltt.so which, both sunOglCurPrimTablePtr and sunOglCurrentContext should be available in the default OpenGL library /usr/lib/libGL.so (links to /usr/X11/lib/NVIDIA/libGL.so.1). But I couldn't find anything from it: > nm /usr/lib/libGL.so /usr/lib/libGL.so: Searching on web, SUN or Nvidia didn't lead to any helpful resource. Any clue or helps? Thanks!

• How can I read this IIS error log?

  I'm using Debug Diagnostic Tool, trying to understand why around 5% of the requests that are sent to my webservice just crash, without necessarily throw any error inside my application. • Problem upgrading kernel on debian 3.1

  Hi, I have a quite old box in a remote server farm. So I have no direct access. Only remote SSH (and via SSH to a serial console). I haven't updated this box in ages. Now, whenever I want to install a new package, a dependency to glibc appears. Unfortunately, the install of glibc depends on a 2.6 kernel and I am running a venerable 2.4 kernel (one more reason to upgrade). The problem is, that the install of a new kernel has an indirect (over locales) dependency to glibc. So, to install glibc, I need a new kernel. For a new kernel, I need to upgrade glibc. Essentially I am blocked. What's the best way to proceed considering I have no "hardware" access?
