  • Using now() in a <asp:textbox>

    Can anyone help. I am using a formview in VS 2005. I have different elements in my form databound to a database and I am performing an INSERT SQL statement. No problem. The problem is that I am trying to enter the current date into the SQL statement and I am having a problem. I can add <%now()% to the "Text" property of the asp:Textbox. But when I do, then I can't bind the textbox to a specific database column. How do I do both???? I can do this: <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Initiate_Date") %>' ></asp:TextBox> Or this: <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server" Text='<%# now() %>' ></asp:TextBox> But I don't know how to do both.

  • Why won't my AJAX controls work? (and ajax for .net 4 not working?)

    I'm totally new to ajax. I'm using VS2005. I just downloaded .NET framework 4 and so then I downloaded ajaxcontroltoolkit.binary.net4 via [http://ajaxcontroltoolkit.codeplex.com/releases/view/43475] (as opposed to ajaxcontroltoolkit.binary.net35 for .NET 3.5), but when I try to load the ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll into my toolbox (as said in the tutorials), I get the following error msg: "'C:......\ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll' is not a microsoft .NET module." First question: Why is this happening? So I tried downloading the "Recommended" ajaxcontroltoolkit.binary.net35, and it accepted the .dll file and loaded all my controls. So, I started a new website and tried to check out a combobox, and it displays, but IE is giving the follow error msg: 'Sys.Extended.UI.PositioningMode.BottomLeft' is null or not an object.' 2nd question: Why is this happening?     Somewhat straightforward: will asp:Validators still perform validation when they're in invisible containers? How about if their ControlToValidate target is invisible? For example: <asp:Panel id="myPanel" runat="server" visible="false"> <asp:Textbox id="myTextbox" runat="server" /> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator id="myRfv" runat="server" controltovalidate="myTextbox" /> </asp:Panel> Above is a Validator in an invisible Panel. Would myRfv still perform validation? How about if myTextbox is invisible instead? I'm asking this because I have very specialized Validators in my ASPX, wherein I also have Panels which are hidden/shown dynamically. While I'm all for disabling the validators themselves, I'm just curious whether they'll automatically disable anyway. Thanks guys! :D

    Hi all I have a series of asp:ImageButtons and one asp:Image(Big). Clicking on each ImageButton should change the ImageUrl of asp:Image to a new ImageUrl. How can we handle this using one Javascript function. Because I dont wanna code ImageButton_Click for each and every asp:ImageButton. This makes my application run very slow and also pass too many server requests. Any ideas ????How to design one powerful Javascript function. By the way when the user clicks on ImageButton...the ImageUrl that has to be set to asp:Image(Big) is same as that of ImageButton. This might help a bit. Thanks in advance

I've looked online and found the code to open the save file dialog and write the text file. When I click save on the save file dialog, I receive an IOException with the message "The process cannot access the file 'C:\thethe.txt' because it is being used by another process." The text file is created in the correct location, but is empty.   • Using IPrinciple.Identity.Name as a key in a dataBase to identify user's rows.

    I'm writing a small intranet app that uses Windows Authentication and Asp.Net MVC. I need to store various bits of data in a db against each user. As far as I can tell the IPrinciple object does not seem to have something like a unique id. So I was thinking I could just use User.Identity.Name as a unique value to identify rows in my db. Is this a bad idea? Is there an alternative to this approach? Thanks for any help.

Is it a bug (I'm using the latest .Net Framework 4.0, and he same occurs in 2.0), or am I doing something wrong here? Is there a work around? Thanks!     I have recently been asked to estimate a piece of work which will provide functionality for authenticated users to access our site. The thing is, the user has to authenticate on a different site & domain to the one we are hosting. The user authenticates on SiteA.com and they are provided with a link to our site, SiteB. Only users who have authenticated on SiteA are allowed to access SiteB.com. I don't yet know what authentication system SiteA is using, but I thought I'd ask the community for some initial thoughts. Is this even possible? What do I need to consider? Thanks

  • Built in background-scheduling system in .NET?

    I ask though I doubt there is any such system. Basically I need to schedule tasks to execute at some point in the future (usually no more than a few seconds or possibly minutes from now), and have some way of cancelling that request unless too late. Ie. code that would look like this: var x = Scheduler.Schedule(() => SomethingSomething(), TimeSpan.FromSeconds(5)); ... x.Dispose(); // cancels the request Is there any such system in .NET? Is there anything in TPL that can help me? I need to run such future-actions from various instances in a system here, and would rather avoid each such class instance to have its own thread and deal with this. Also note that I don't want this (or similar, for instance through Tasks): new Thread(new ThreadStart(() => { Thread.Sleep(5000); SomethingSomething(); })).Start(); There will potentially be a few such tasks to execute, they don't need to be executed in any particular order, except for close to their deadline, and it isn't vital that they have anything like a realtime performance concept. I just want to avoid spinning up a separate thread for each such action.

    I have a 12.10 server setup in a virtual machine with its network set to bridged (essentially will be seen as a computer connected to my switch). I installed opensshd via apt-get and was able to connect to the server using putty with my username and password. I then set about trying to get it to use public/private key authentication. I did the following: Generated the keys using PuttyGen. Moved the public key to /etc/ssh/myusername/authorized_keys (I am using encrypted home directories). Set up sshd_config like so: PubkeyAuthentication yes AuthorizedKeysFile /etc/ssh/%u/authorized_keys StrictModes no PasswordAuthentication no UsePAM yes When I connect using putty or WinSCP, I get an error saying No supported authentication methods available (server sent public key). The deserialization could cause the object to connect to the report server when the report is no longer available. The solution is simple but not pretty. We need to clean up the session variable when the report viewer page is closed. One way is to add some Javascript to the page to handle the window.onunload event. In the event handler, call a web service to clean up the session variable. The name of the session variable appears to be randomly generated. So we need to loop through the session variable to find a variable of the type Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportHierarchy. Microsoft has implemented pinging between the report viewer and the report server to keep the report alive on the server when the report viewer is up; I hope they will go one step further to take care of this problem.

    This is really driving me crazy. I've got a button inside a gridview to remove that item from the gridview (its datasource is a list). I've got the list being saved to session anytime a change is being made to it, and on page_load check if that session variable is empty, if not, then set that list to bind to the gridview. If I keep it commented out...it fires no problem, but then of course my list can never have more than one item since I am not loading the saved list from session into the gridview but just a fresh one. But the button click is being registered, because page_load is being stepped through again when I am viewing in debug mode, just deleteUser never fires. Why is this happening?? And how can I fix it??

  • Random Slow Response

    We have an ASP.NET MVC 1.0 application running on Windows Server 2008 – Standard (32 –bit), Dual Core Xeon (3.0 GHz), 2 G.B R.A.M. Most of the times application renders response in 3-4 seconds, but sometimes users get very late response and delay is up to 40 seconds or more than a minute. It happens in following way: User browsed a page, idle for 5, 10 or 15 minutes, tried to browse same page or some other. Now, there is a chance that he will see late response whereas the app pool is still up and running. This can happen with any arbitrary page. We have tried followings/observations. Moved the application to stand alone web server App Pool idle shutdown time is 60 minutes. There are no abrupt shut downs/restarts. CPU or memory doesn’t spike. No delays in SQL queries. Modified App Pool setting to run in classic-mode. It didn’t help. Plugged-in custom module to log all those requests which took more than 5 seconds to complete. It didn’t pick any request of interest. Enabled ‘Failed Request Tracing’ to log all those requests which take 20 or more seconds to complete. It didn’t log anything. Event Viewer, HTTPER log, W3SVC logs or WAS logs don’t indicate anything. HTTPERR only has ‘_ _ Timer_ConnectionIdle _ _’ entries. There is not much traffic to server. This can happen also if only two users are active. Next we captured TCP/IP terrific on both a user and server end with Wireshark and below are details in brief of this slowness: Browser sends a request for ~/User/Home/ (GET Request) by setting up a receiving end point using port 'wlbs(port-2504)'. I'm not sure if this could be a problem in some way that browser didn't hand-shake with the server first and assumed that last connection is still open, whereas, I browsed the same page 4 minutes ago and didn't perform any activity with site after that. If I see the HTTPERR log, it indicates that it has ‘_ _ Timer_ConnectionIdle _ _ _’ entry for my last activity with server. Browser (I was using Chrome) waits for any response from the server, doesn’t find any then starts retransmitting the same request using same end point after incrementing wait intervals, e.g. after 8, 18, 29, 40, 62, and 92 seconds. All these GET requests were received by server as well. But, server didn’t send any packet to client. Browser didn't see any response on the end point it set up in point 1, it opened a new end point 'optiwave-lm (port-2524)', did a hand shake with the server and transmitted the same request again. Server received, processed it, and returned successful response. What happened to earlier 6-7 requests? Whether they were passed on to HTTP.SYS or not? Why Failed Request Tracing not logged anything, we didn't find any clue yet. Server served the same page successfully just 4 minutes ago. Looking forward for more suggestions/solutions. -- Thanks

Things were working nice till we hit a circular dependent class. Is there any workaround to solve this problem? I currently have 2 ASP.NET MVC apps in my solution. First I run the first one by setting it to be startup project. Then I have set the persist security of the cookie to true so I can access it from any where under localhost. The cookie writes fine and I get logged in and all godd for now. BTW the url for this login page is: http //localhost/MyAccount/Login Now then I stop the solution and set the other MVC apps to be the startup. Then I run it. But once it crashes in Firefox I have a look in the Page Info and then security and Cookies and its there and its the same cookie. What am I doing wrong?

    I'm trying to make a post, from an asp classic server side page, using the user credentials... I'm using msxml2.ServerXMLHTTP to programatically make the post I've tried with several configurations in the IIS 5.1 site, but there's no way I can make IIS run with a specified account... I made a little asp page that runs whoami to verify what account the iis process i using... with IIS 5.1, using integrated security the process uses: my_machine\IWAM_my_machine I disable integrated security, and leave a domain account as anonymous access, and I get the same (¿?) to test the user I do the following private function whoami() dim shell, cmd set shell = createObject("wscript.shell") set cmd = shell.exec( server.mapPath( "whoami.exe" ) ) whoami = cmd.stdOut.readAll() set shell = nothing: set cmd = nothing end function is it because I'm issuing a shell command? I'd like to make http post calls, to another site that works with integrated security... So I need some way to pass the credentials, or at least to run with a specified account, and then configure the remote site to thrust that account... I thought that just setting the site to work with integrated security would be enough...     No this isn't a copy of this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/654423/button-in-update-panel-is-doing-a-full-postback I've got a drop down inside an update panel, and I am trying to get it to allow the person using the page to add users to a list that is bound to a gridview. The list is a global variable, and on page_load I set that to the gridview's datasource and databind it. However, anytime I click the 'add a user' button, or the button to remove the user from the list. It appears like it is doing a full post back even though all these elements are inside the update Panel. So if that's the case, why is it calling page_load everytime I click the buttons? I ran this code and debug and I see that even before any of the code associated with button press fires, page_load runs again. I tried putting the gvAssociatedUser.Datasource = associatedFaculty and the line below inside the Page.IsPostBack check, that prevented the page from working. I tried every combination of settings of the update panel for ChildrenAsTriggers and UpdateMode, and none of them worked. I know this is something simple, but all the combinations I've tried won't get it to work. How can I make this thing work? Edited: It wasn't causing a full postback so I was wrong as to the cause. I thought the page was doing a full post back thus resetting my associatedFaculty list global variable, but it isn't doing a full postback. The issue I am having is everytime I click btnAddUser it will add one element to the associatedFaculty list and thus bound to gvAssociatedusers. This works the first time, but the second time I click it, it overwrites the first element. So it appears like my associatedFaculty list is getting reset each time I click the button?
