  • Best way to get a reasonably random key for MYSQL records

    - by Steve N
Hi there, I need to generate a reasonably random unique key for a table. It should be something like a GUID for MYSQL. I've tried UUID, but it looks like only the first few characters are actually random- the rest are the same every time I insert them. Essentially, it is desirable for this key field to be very difficult to guess, even if you already have one known value in the column. What is the best way to do this, and how should I set up the field data type to store the value efficiently? Thank you, Steve

  • How do I locate instances of <CR><LF><LF> in a mysql longtext field

    - by Ilane
I would like to query my table for how many rows contain one or more instances of <CR><LF><LF>. I can't figure out the correct syntax. I would try LIKE '%<CR><LF><LF>%', but I don't know how to specify these special characters. I did try where mydata REGEXP '%[.CR.][.LF.][.LF.]%', and that didn't get a syntax error but neither did it return any rows. So, I realized I need a way to insert the test data as well! Note: I am using mysql 5.0.

  • MySQL Insert Data Question

    - by Nano HE
Hi, assume I already created a table in MySQL as below CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `sales` ( `id` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `client_id` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL, `order_time` timestamp NOT NULL default CURRENT_TIMESTAMP on update CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, `sub_total` decimal(8,2) NOT NULL, `shipping_cost` decimal(8,2) NOT NULL, `total_cost` decimal(8,2) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=9 ; -- -- Dumping data for table `sales` -- If I added a new field must_fill for the current table. `must_fill` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL, User can insert less than the number of fiels items to the table defaultly, just as the script of below. INSERT INTO `sales` (`id`, `client_id`, `order_time`, `sub_total`, `shipping_cost`, `total_cost`) VALUES (8, 12312, '2007-12-19 01:30:45', 10.75, 3.00, 13.75); It's fine. But How can I configure the field (must_fill) to a MUST INCLUDE Data field when user plan to insert into new data. BTW, The code will be integrated in PHP script.

  • Best way to store weekly event in MySQL?

    - by mazin k.
I have a table of weekly events that run on certain days of the week (e.g. MTWTh, MWF, etc.) and run on a certain time (e.g. 8am-5pm). What's the best way to store day of week information in MySQL to make retrieving and working with the data easiest? My CakePHP app is going to need to retrieve all events happening NOW(). For time of day, I would just use TIME. For days of the week, I had considered a 7-bit bitfield, a varchar ("MTWThFr" type deal) for the days of the week, but both of those seem like clunky solutions (the varchar being clunkier). Any suggestions?

  • Conditional Batch file renaming with mysql data

    - by Paul Stevens
Hello, I wonder if anyone knows how could I rename multiple files, all of them originally named with same structure, and add some data extracted from a mysql DB according to specifics rules. For example I have 500 files named with this vars: ID NAME ADDRESS PHONE.wav = 1234567 PAULSIMON WESTDR122 9942213456.wav Now I need to rename files taking some data from the databases for each file, and append the data from a query appended to the filename. For example add the data resulting from a query Where some conditions match, and the data to build the query is taked from original file name, as ID or NAME. i other words, lets say that I want to build a query taking ID & NAME from file 1234567 PAULSIMON WESTDR123 9942213456.wav as WHERE statements to take another value as BirthDATE and add this to new filename, so final result should be: ID NAME ADDRESS PHONE BIRTHDATE.wav I will appreciate any help on this. I need this to be done on a LINUX server.

  • MySQL - get all unique values of a column, check if has a specific value

    - by gamers2000
    First off - apologies for the poor title, I have no idea how to describe it in a one-liner. I have a table - snippet is below. mysql> select * from playlistfiles; +-----------------------+--------------+-----------+ | FileName | PlaylistName | FileIndex | +-----------------------+--------------+-----------+ | File1 | Image1 | 0 | | File1 | Video1 | 2 | | File2 | Video1 | 0 | | File3 | Video1 | 1 | | File4 | Image1 | 1 | | File4 | Video1 | 3 | +-----------------------+--------------+-----------+ 6 rows in set (0.00 sec) What I need to do is to get all the FileNames and whether the file is in a playlist or not, as well as order them by FileIndex i.e. for the Image1 playlist, the output should be +-----------------------+------------+-----------+ | FileName | InPlaylist | FileIndex | +-----------------------+------------+-----------+ | File1 | 1 | 0 | | File2 | 0 | Null | | File3 | 0 | Null | | File4 | 1 | 1 | +-----------------------+------------+-----------+ and Video1 would be +-----------------------+------------+-----------+ | FileName | InPlaylist | FileIndex | +-----------------------+------------+-----------+ | File2 | 1 | 0 | | File3 | 1 | 1 | | File1 | 1 | 2 | | File4 | 1 | 3 | +-----------------------+------------+-----------+ In short, I need to be able to get all the unique FileNames from the table, and check if it is in a given table and if so, order it by FileIndex.

  • How to connect 2 mysql tables with 2 connection string

    - by denonth
Hi all I need to connect 2 tables from 2 mysql databases that have 2 different connection strings and each is on the different server. I have this query: cmd = new MySqlCommand(String.Format("INSERT INTO {0} (a,b,c,d) SELECT (a,b,c,d) FROM {1}", ConfigSettings.ReadSetting("main_table"), ConfigSettings.ReadSetting("main_table")), con); So both table have the same columns. Thats why I have only one ConfigSettings.ReadSetting("main_table") for both of them as they are same. I have 2 connection strings and each is pointing to their server: con.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["con1"].ConnectionString; con2.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["con2"].ConnectionString; How to make this cmd to be workking with 2 different connection strings and with the same name for the table. Table name will change that's why it is saved in config.

  • Mysql query: count and distinct

    - by Azevedo
I have this hypotetical MySQL table: TABLE cars: (year, color, brand) How do I count # of cars grouped by brand and year? I mean, how can I get to know how many colors are there grouped by brand like: brand "GM": total # of colors: 8. brand "GM": total # of years (grouped together): 14 (meaning there are count of 14 different years). brand "TOYOTA": total # of colors: 3. brand "TOYOTA": total # of years (grouped together): 10 (meaning there are count of 14 different years) I tried playing some queries with COUNT, DISTINCT, GROUP BY but I can't get to it. Actually I'm trying to get the 2 queries... +-------+---------------+ | brand | count(colors) | +-------+---------------+ +-------+--------------+ | brand | count(years) | +-------+--------------+ thanks a lot!

  • NHibernate 3 and MySQL setup tutorial

    - by ryanzec
Since I have given up on using the entity framework 4 as my ORM (getting it to work with MySQL and mapping table/field names like this_table/this_field to object naming like ThisTable/ThisField is POCO) I am now looking at NHibernate as it seems the the next big well know ORM for C# that probably with not die off any time soon. I am trying to lookup some tutorials and a lot of them in the configuration section have 2-2 in it and was wondering if those configuration would work with NHibernate 3? I am just curious if the 2-2 refers to the version of NHibernate or something different.

  • MySQL: Efficient Blobbing?

    - by feklee
I'm dealing with blobs of up to - I estimate - about 100 kilo bytes in size. The data is compressed already. Storage engine: InnoDB on MySQL 5.1 Frontend: PHP (Symfony with Propel ORM) Some questions: I've read somewhere that it's not good to update blobs, because it leads to reallocation, fragmentation, and thus bad performance. Is that true? Any reference on this? Initially the blobs get constructed by appending data chunks. Each chunk is up to 16 kilo bytes in size. Is it more efficient to use a separate chunk table instead, for example with fields as below? parent_id, position, chunk Then, to get the entire blob, one would do something like: SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(chunk ORDER BY position) FROM chunks WHERE parent_id = 187 The result would be used in a PHP script. Is there any difference between the types of blobs, aside from the size needed for meta data, which should be negligible.

  • PHP/MySQL Database Issues

    - by queryne
PHP/MySQL newbie question. I have a database I've imported into my local phpmyadmin. However it seems I can't access it from my a php application. The connection string seems right and when I try to authenticate user credentials to access database information, no problems. However authenticate everyone and knows when I put in fake credentials. Still it won't pull any other information from the database. For instance, once a users login they should see something like, "Hello username", that kind of thing. At this point I see "Hello" without the username. Any ideas what i might be missing?

  • mysql join default value

    - by andy
I've been trying to use the IsNull() function to ensure that there is a value for a field. $result = mysql_query(" SELECT crawled.id,IsNull(sranking.score,0) as Score,crawled.url,crawled.title,crawled.blurb FROM crawled LEFT JOIN sranking ON crawled.id = sranking.sid WHERE crawled.body LIKE '%".$term."%' ORDER BY Score DESC LIMIT " . $start . "," . $c . " ") or die(mysql_error()); But I get the error message:Incorrect parameter count in the call to native function 'IsNull' Anybody have any ideas? I'm pretty new to mySQL.

  • Deleting partial data from a field in MySQL

    - by Graham
I am trying to remove a specific set of data from a MySQL database field, however I am not sure what the best statement would be for this. For example, if I have a data in a field such as... The use of a secondary password will allow you to gain access to your account from a non-authenticated computer. A non-authenticated computer is any computer that is not your primary computer, an elected authenticated computer or a computer that automatically deletes cookies. <p>This is a test</p> ...and I want to remove <p>This is a test</p> from the field, what statement would be best?

  • maven tomcat plugin with mysql driver in $catalina_home/lib

    - by gerolf
Hi everybody, i am trying to use a container managed datasource (via context.xml) in tomcat. The corresponding jar file needs to go in $catalina_home/lib, otherwise tomcat can't find it. (not in webapp/WEB-INF/lib, because it is managed by the webserver, not by the application itself) the problem is: I am using maven with the maven-tomcat-plugin, so I don't have a $catalina_home (everything is distributed in my .m2 -repository). So the question is: how can I add the mysql driver jar to the classpath of the tomcat server (mvn tomcat:run)? thanks a lot, gerolf.

  • MySQL Locking table from Stored FUNCTION

    - by Brandon
I have a function in a MySQL Database that determines some sync parameters for a mobile device. The function determines the last date/time the user synchronized with the database. During my sync operation I call this server side function twice. As soon as I call it the second time - the entire Sync_Records table is locked. I cannot write to it from any other connection anywhere (note, after first call, the table is not locked). I changed the function to a Procedure - and all is fine - no locking after the second call. The entire sync operation (including both calls to the function/procedure) is within a transaction. This is an InnoDb table. The function/procedure simply does two select statements. They are storing results in local variables and then returning the date time variable. I don't understand why the tables are locked. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Why doesn't MySQL support millisecond / microsecond precision?

    - by Byron Whitlock
So I just found the most frustrating bug ever in MySQL. Apparently the TIMESTAMP field, and supporting functions do not support any greater precision than seconds!? So I am using PHP and Doctrine, and I really need those microseconds (I am using the actAs: [Timestampable] property). I found a that I can use a BIGINT field to store the values. But will doctrine add the milliseconds? I think it just assigns NOW() to the field. I am also worried the date manipulation functions (in SQL) sprinkled through the code will break. I also saw something about compiling a UDF extension. This is not an acceptable because I or a future maintainer will upgrade and poof, change gone. Has anyone found a suitable workaround?

  • PHP MySQL New Lines / Whitespaces from textarea

    - by rob_robsen
I've a problem about whitespaces and new lines at the beginning of a textarea. I send a json string with ajax to the php script. Then I decode the string into an php array (with json_decode). So I have a string in this array with two line breaks at the beginning. If a print the text from the array, the line breaks are there, but if I store the text into the mysql database, the line breaks are gone... Only at the beginning of the string, the line breaks gone... At the rest of the string, the line breaks are ok. Thanks for your answers! rob

  • Export MySQL Data as Insert Statements

    - by gav
Hi All, I'm working in Ubuntu with MySql and I also have Query Browser and Administrator installed, I'm not afraid of the command line either if it helps. I want simply to be able to run a query and see a result set but then convert that result set into a series of commands that could be used to create the same rows in a table of an identical schema. I hope the question makes sense, it's quite a simple problem and one that must have been solved but I can't for the life of me work out where this kind of conversion is made available. Thanks in advance, Gav

  • MySQL order by error in PHP

    - by theflyinghaiwian
Hi, I'm making a simple cms system for a site I'm making for non-tech users to edit... So far so good but when I try and run this code I keep getting: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''pages' ORDER BY 'pages'.'pageOrder' ASC LIMIT 0 , 30' at line 1 By the error it looks like a problem with the order by section and indeed it works without it... $sql = "SELECT * FROM 'pages' ORDER BY 'pages'.'pageOrder' ASC LIMIT 0 , 30"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error()); Now I know there is nothing wrong with the code because originally I wrote my own SQL but then after it failed I robbed some from phpmyadmin and it still gives the error but it works in phpmyadmin... I'm really at my wits end with this, help is very much appreciated thank you...
