I know there is the perl regex that is sort of a minor de facto standard, but why hasn't anyone come up with a universal set of standard symbols, syntax and behaviors?
When connecting to mysql, I have functions to get the relevant error message and error code, I see nothing of the sort in the list of ftp functions of PHP.
Is there a best practice to handle errors in FTP?
I'm trying to figure out why the text in the left navigation panel on the following page is shrinking & underlining when you mouseover in Firefox.
http://fundcentre.newireland.ie/
Everything on the left & top is part of a wrapper that we inject our content into. Our content is everything from "FUND CENTRE" down.
Can someone suggest something I could do to sort this issue out? Thanks.
Hi,
I have an activity which launches another activity, via a button click. By default, on newer OS versions of android, the OS will animate the new activity sliding in from right to left.
Is there a way to disable this animation? I just want the new activity to appear without any sort of animation.
Thanks
I'm trying to make a script that sends a pound instead of a dollar when you hold down Shift and press 3 twice quickly.
Has anyone seen any code that does this sort of thing?

How can I view and override the full definition for built in classes? I have seen the library docs but am looking for something more.
For e.g. is it possible to override the Array Class such that the base index starts from 1 instead of 0, or to override .sort() of list to a sorting algorithm of my own liking?
I have enabled blur on my window. I have some edit fields and some custom controls and I would not want these to be affected by the blur, they are semi transparent as a result. How could I only blur the main window itself, not its child controls (sort of like Chrome). Thanks
My C#-programm has a windows.forms.timer that fires all 24h for a background task.
During a day I put my Vista 64bit several times in stand-by mode (never switch it off).
It seems that after wake-up the timer is sort of reset.
I'd like to write a templated function which changes its behavior depending on template class types passed in. To do this, I'd like to determine the type passed in. For example, something like this:
template <class T>
void foo() {
if (T == int) { // Sadly, this sort of comparison doesn't work
printf("Template parameter was int\n");
} else if (T == char) {
printf("Template parameter was char\n");
}
}
Is this possible?
Hey there,
Is there some way of getting optional parameters with C++ Macros? Some sort of overloading would be nice too. It doesnt seem as if there is? I couldnt find any method anyway.
Thanks in advance!
I want images that gradually "gradient" to blend in with the background color (white/transparent) as it gets to the bottom. Is there a way I can apply a CSS3 gradient or some sort of gradual transparency using CSS3 to the bottom edges of the image so it looks like its fading into the background color? I know I can make images with some photoeditor to achieve that effect, but I am curious to know if CSS3 can accomplish it.
I'm searching files and returning lines that include the search text, and I'm not really sure the best way to display the information I get. Every time I get a match, I want to show, in some sort of control, the File it came from, and the whole text line. (aka streamreader.ReadLine() result). First I tried just putting it all in a read-only text box, but it doesn't have a scroll bar.
What is the best form control to help me display this data neatly?
Is it possible to store a type name as a C++ variable? For example, like this:
type my_type = int; // or string, or Foo, or any other type
void* data = ...;
my_type* a = (my_type*) data;
I know that 99.9% of the time there's a better way to do what you want without resorting to casting void pointers, but I'm curious if C++ allows this sort of thing.
Hi all,
I came cross a question in my interview.
Question:
Array of integers will be given as the input and you should find out the middle element when sorted , but without sorting.
For Example.
Input: 1,3,5,4,2
Output: 3
When you sort the given input array, it will be 1,2,3,4,5 where middle element is 3.
You should find this in one pass without sorting.
Any solutions for this?
I'm parsing Xml data which has entries like this:
<item name="UserText" type_name="gh_string" type_code="10"> </item>
I'm supposed to read the 6 spaces as a String, but both the InnerText and InnerXml values of the System.Xml.XmlNode are zero length Strings.
Is there any way I can get at this whitespace data in existing files and what do I need to do in the future to prevent this sort of screw up?
I'm sort of new to Perl and I'm wondering if there a prefered unit testing framework?
Google is showing me some nice results, but since I'm new to this, I don't know if there is a clear preference within the community.
I've got a combo box that's data provider is coming form a database query. Now I'd like to add one hard coded item to be included in the combobox a sort of reset item that would reset the combobox to display its prompt message.
Any idea how to do this?
Thanks!
Does anyone know of a stand-alone tool for C# code cleaning/auditing that can run outside of Visual Studio IDE so as to be part of a build. Or if that isn't possible can someone provide some guidance as to how to make Visual Studio part of a build process -- by that I mean it would be nice to run the IDE's Sort and Remove unused using statements on all files as part of the build, but even better would be an exe that can read the .sln, or .csproj and do the job as part of build system.
Thanks,

Hi,
On the MSDN is there some sort of reference which details every native function inside the Windows API for different versions say from Windows XP upwards?
I have been googling and looking round the MSDN but I must not be looking for the correct thing.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Andrew
What is the programmatical mechanism by which an application can be launched at a result of another one being launched?
E.g. upon launching iTunes, the Last.fm desktop launches too.
Or it is just a question of substituting a "batch file" of some sort?
Note: OS X newbie.
Hello SO;
I'm trying to convert xml elements whose content is a csv list of identifiers, the exact form doesn't matter. I want to exclude every item that contains the character "/". The best I've come up with is
translate(./someElement, ",*/*", "")
but this has at least two problems; I'm pretty sure that xsl doesn't accept wildcards, and "," is an illegal character in xpaths.
Is there a straightforward way to do this sort of thing?
Considering porting/rewriting an app for the iPad and need some UI advice. On the iPad is there a way to pop a context-menu up from a text field without the text field losing focus? If not, what is the closest thing in the UI to this sort of functionality?
I am calling the results form a query to a list on my site based on if the item is "downtown_hosted". This works fine but I would now like to sort that list DESC, but can't seem to get the syntax correct.
Below is what I have:
$result_events = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM events WHERE downtown='downtown_hosted' ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT 5 ");
I'm not sure the best way to word this question so bear with me.
Table A has following columns:
id
name
description
Table B has the following columns:
id
a_id(foreign key to Table A)
ip_address
date
Basically Table B contains a row for each time a user views a row from Table A.
My question is how do I sort Table A results, based on the number of matching rows in Table B.
i.e
SELECT *
FROM TableA
ORDER BY (SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM TableB
where TableB.a_id = TableA.id)
Thank you!
