  • BIP 11g Dynamic SQL

    - by Tim Dexter
Back in the 10g release, if you wanted something beyond the standard query for your report extract; you needed to break out your favorite text editor. You gotta love 'vi' and hate emacs, am I right? And get to building a data template, they were/are lovely to write, such fun ... not! Its not fun writing them by hand but, you do get to do some cool stuff around the data extract including dynamic SQL. By that I mean the ability to add content dynamically to your your query at runtime. With 11g, we spoiled you with a visual builder, no more vi or notepad sessions, a friendly drag and drop interface allowing you to build hierarchical data sets, calculated columns, summary columns, etc. You can still create the dynamic SQL statements, its not so well documented right now, in lieu of doc updates here's the skinny. If you check out the 10g process to create dynamic sql in the docs. You need to create a data trigger function where you assign the dynamic sql to a global variable that's matched in your report SQL. In 11g, the process is really the same, BI Publisher just provides a bit more help to define what trigger code needs to be called. You still need to create the function and place it inside a package in the db. Here's a simple plsql package with the 'beforedata' function trigger. Spec create or replace PACKAGE BIREPORTS AS whereCols varchar2(2000); FUNCTION beforeReportTrig return boolean; end BIREPORTS; Body create or replace PACKAGE BODY BIREPORTS AS   FUNCTION beforeReportTrig return boolean AS   BEGIN       whereCols := ' and d.department_id = 100';     RETURN true;   END beforeReportTrig; END BIREPORTS; you'll notice the additional where clause (whereCols - declared as a public variable) is hard coded. I'll cover parameterizing that in my next post. If you can not wait, check the 10g docs for an example. I have my package compiling successfully in the db. Now, onto the BIP data model definition. 1. Create a new data model and go ahead and create your query(s) as you would normally. 2. In the query dialog box, add in the variables you want replaced at runtime using an ampersand rather than a colon e.g. &whereCols.   select     d.DEPARTMENT_NAME, ...  from    "OE"."EMPLOYEES" e,     "OE"."DEPARTMENTS" d  where   d."DEPARTMENT_ID"= e."DEPARTMENT_ID" &whereCols   Note that 'whereCols' matches the global variable name in our package. When you click OK to clear the dialog, you'll be asked for a default value for the variable, just use ' and 1=1' That leading space is important to keep the SQL valid ie required whitespace. This value will be used for the where clause if case its not set by the function code. 3. Now click on the Event Triggers tree node and create a new trigger of the type Before Data. Type in the default package name, in my example, 'BIREPORTS'. Then hit the update button to get BIP to fetch the valid functions. In my case I get to see the following: Select the BEFOREREPORTTRIG function (or your name) and shuttle it across. 4. Save your data model and now test it. For now, you can update the where clause via the plsql package. Next time ... parametrizing the dynamic clause.

  • Silverlight 4 + RIA Services - Ready for Business: Validating Data

To continue our series lets look at data validation our business applications. Updating data is great, but when you enable data update you often need to check the data to ensure it is valid.  RIA Services as clean, prescriptive pattern for handling this.   First lets look at what you get for free.  The value for any field entered has to be valid for the range of that data type.  For example, you never need to write code to ensure someone didnt type is forty-two into...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Usefull skills from a computer science degree

    - by Tom Squires
I did my degree in physics and moved later into programming. I have two and a half years experience under my belt and like to think I write good code. I am, however, concerned that not doing a compsci degree has left holes in my knowledge. I would like to fill those up now since I know I want to be doing programming for the rest of my career. What skills/techniques did you learn in your compsci degree that one wouldn't pick up from on-the-job programming?

Error 1 'ToArray' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.ObjectCollection'. This is the code I use. Private Sub Button1_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If RadioButton1.Checked Then Dim itemsToMove = ListBox1.Items.ToArray() For Each item In itemsToMove Form2.lstP.Items.Add(item) ListBox1.Items.Remove(item) Next Form2.Show() End If End Sub Can someone help me with this?

  • Elastic Collision Formula in Java

    - by Shijima
I'm trying to write a Java formula based on this tutorial: 2-D elastic collisions without Trigonometry. I am in the section "Elastic Collisions in 2 Dimensions". In step 1, it mentions "Next, find the unit vector of n, which we will call un. This is done by dividing by the magnitude of n". My below code represents the normal vector of 2 objects (I'm using a simple array to represent the normal vector), but I am not really sure what the tutorial means by dividing the magnitude of n to get the un. int[] normal = new int[2]; normal[0] = ball2.x - ball1.x; normal[1] = ball2.y - ball1.y; Can anyone please explain what un is, and how I can calculate it with my array in Java?

  • Why do I get this error trying to compile libxml2?

    - by bfaskiplar
Although, I installed libxml2 once and reinstalled it for a few times. I cannot compile c-source code because compiler cannot find where the header file is. I am able to locate where it is (in the folder where I downloaded the tar.gz package) but I had a feeling in my guts that this package isn't installed correctly because when I tried to sudo make install, it says /bin/bash: /home/bfaskiplar/Downloads/tar.gz: No such file or directory make[2]: *** [install-libLTLIBRARIES] Error 127 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/bfaskiplar/Downloads/tar.gz packages/libxml2-2.8.0' make[1]: *** [install-am] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/bfaskiplar/Downloads/tar.gz packages/libxml2-2.8.0' make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 that's why I installed synaptic package manager and reinstalled it, but in this case, isn't it supposed to put header files in default directory where gcc normally searches in currently, I am able to compile it with -I option, but I wonder why do I have to copy headers manually even if I used synaptic for installation and why I am getting Error 1 and Error 2 when trying to install the package manually. thanks in advance

  • How can I track a falling ball with a camera?

    - by Jason
    I have been trying to get my camera to follow a falling ball but with no success. here is the code float cameraY = (FrustumHeight / 2)+((ball.getPosition().y) /2) - (FrustumHeight /2); if (cameraY < FrustumHeight/2 ) cameraY = FrustumHeight/2; camera.position.set(0f,cameraY, 0f); Gdx.app.log("test",camera.position.toString()); camera.update(); camera.apply(Gdx.gl10); batch.setProjectionMatrix(camera.combined); batch.begin(); batch.draw(backgroundRegion, camera.position.x - FrustumWidth / 2, -cameraY - (FrustumHeight/2) , 320, 480); batch.draw(ballTexture, (camera.position.x - FrustumWidth / 2) + ball.getPosition().x,-cameraY + ball.getPosition().y - (FrustumHeight/2) , 32, 32); I'm sure I am doing this completely wrong - what is the correct way to do this?

  • Is the use of explicit ' == true' comparison always bad? [closed]

    - by Slomojo
Possible Duplicate: Make a big deal out of == true? I've been looking at a lot of code samples recently, and I keep noticing the use of... if( expression == true ) // do something... and... x = ( expression == true ) ? x : y; I've tended to always use... x = ( expression ) ? x : y; and... if( expression ) // do something... Where == true is implicit (and obvious?) Is this just a habit of mine, and I'm being picky about the explicit use of == true, or is it simply bad practice?

  • Demographics and Interests reports

    - by Dyf
    I have an issue with Google Analytics, can't seem to find a guide how to activate Demographics and Interests reports. I am using the new version of analytics (Universal Analytics) and the script code looks something like this: (function (i, s, o, g, r, a, m) { i['GoogleAnalyticsObject'] = r; i[r] = i[r] || function () { (i[r].q = i[r].q || []).push(arguments) }, i[r].l = 1 * new Date(); a = s.createElement(o), m = s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0]; a.async = 1; a.src = g; m.parentNode.insertBefore(a, m) })(window, document, 'script', '//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js', 'ga'); But the guide i found on googles page (https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2819948?hl=sv) is for the old version (Classis Analytics). Anyone know how i can activate this on Universal Analytics or is this even possible? Thanks!

  • quickest way to research a set of pages backlinks

    - by JeremyB
I have a list of 300+ pages (they were chosen based on which pages rank for a keyword I'm interested in) and I want to compile a list all the (known) inbound links to those pages. What's the fastest way to do this? It seems like the only tools out there-- Yahoo Site Explorer, SEOMoz, Majestic, require you to either a) manually export each set of links by hand, or b) get data at the domain level (e.g. Majestic's clique hunter). Does anyone know of any efficient way to do this? I ask because I'm about to write a bunch of code and I don't want to waste my time if there's another tool that will work. I know SEOMoz and Majestic have API's but I'm wondering if there's a more user-friendly option.

  • Print all values in a value object

    - by SKDev
I have to debug an issue which requires me to print all the values of a Value Object that is returned by a web service call. The Value object is a complex object in the sense, it has another object as its member which in turn has another object. Printing all the values by using get methods is cumbersome. So was wondering if there is a way to break down the value object by any way to get to a primitive level like String or int or Date and print them all using one API? I had a look at the below question but my prob is that i don't have access to the source code of the value object. The sources are in obfuscated jar. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2413001/how-to-print-values-of-an-object-in-java

  • Cancelling WPF Application.Shutdown

    - by MarkPearl
Today I spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out what I had had done wrong. I had an application that when the user click’s “exit”, it should prompt if they want to save the last unsaved file, or cancel the exit. If the select cancel it should not exit the application. Everything seemed fine in my code, all I was doing was calling Application.Current.Shutdown(); And then capturing the Closing event and setting cancel to true.. (see SO question here) Long story short, If should not have been calling Application.Current.Shutdown() but rather Application.Current.MainWindow.Close(). grrrr… <I must read documentation properly>

  • Move sprite in the direction it is facing?

    - by rphello101
I'm using Java/Slick 2D. I'm trying to use the mouse to rotate the sprite and the arrow keys to move the sprite. I can get the sprite to rotate no problem, but I cannot get it to move in the direction it is supposed to. When I hit "forwards", the sprite doesn't necessarily move towards the mouse. I'm sure there has to be some standard code for this since many games use this style of motion. Can anyone help me out with what the trig is supposed to be? Thanks

  • Multiply mode in SpriteBatch

    - by ashes999
I have a "lighting" texture (black background with white or colours for lights) that I want to draw as a multiplcation operation. SpriteBatch.Begin can specify BlendState.Additive, but there's no BlendState.Multiplicative. I also tried the solution in this answer, but it didn't work -- even when I (incorrectly?) changed the code to work with XNA 4 style ColorDestinationBlend, I ended up with the final solution being inverted (black area where the light is, everything else is visible). I initially thought of a shader, but I couldn't get shaders to work with MonoGame, so I'm falling back to SpriteBatch.

  • Is there a way to setup Clicktale tag in Google Tag Manager?

    - by Cubius
Since GTM doesn't support document.write() method the standard clicktale code doesn't work. Is there a workaround for this? ClickTale employee has sent me these instructions: Replace the document.write JS line above with the following: document.body.appendChild(externalScript); Example: <!-- ClickTale Bottom part --> <script type='text/javascript'> var externalScript = document.createElement('script'); var scrSrc = document.location.protocol=='https:'? 'https://clicktalecdn.sslcs.cdngc.net/': 'http://cdn.clicktale.net/'; scrSrc += 'www11/ptc/xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.js'; externalScript.src = scrSrc; externalScript.type = 'text/javascript'; document.body.appendChild(externalScript); </script> <!-- ClickTale end of Bottom part --> I am not sure what to do with this. Has someone tried something like this?

  • Writing the tests for FluentPath

Writing the tests for FluentPath is a challenge. The library is a wrapper around a legacy API (System.IO) that wasnt designed to be easily testable. If it were more testable, the sensible testing methodology would be to tell System.IO to act against a mock file system, which would enable me to verify that my code is doing the expected file system operations without having to manipulate the actual, physical file system: what we are testing here is FluentPath, not System.IO. Unfortunately, that...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. • Who created that user?

    - by AaronBertrand
Twitter has provided some great fodder for blog content lately. And twice this week, I've found an excuse to take advantage of the default trace. Tonight @meltondba asked: I'm trying to find who created a user act in a DB It is true, SQL Server doesn't really keep track of who created objects, such as user accounts in a database. You can get some of this information from the default trace, though, since it tracks EventClass 109 (Audit Add DB User). If you run this code: USE [master] ; GO CREATE LOGIN...(read more)

  • I've released a software product - how do I maximize exposure given no budget and limited time?

    - by CubicleSoft
I'd like to reach out to the community on this one. As a software developer, I'm not an expert salesperson or marketing guru - I think in code and not much else. Most developers I come across are like this and also tend to be serious penny-pinchers. Let's say, as a developer, I recently released a new software product that I'm pretty sure will be a hit IF people only knew about it. Assume a budget of $0.00 and limited time each day (i.e. 30 to 60 minutes). What can I do, within those limitations, to maximize exposure? If possible, please back up your reply with at least two working examples.

  • When to use event.initMouseEvent for simulating mouse clicks?

    - by Protector one
I wonder if there are benign use-cases for simulating mouse clicks using event.initMouseEvent. I found that it is used for creating pop-under ads in the following way: var e = document.createEvent('MouseEvents'); e.initMouseEvent('click', true, true, window, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, true, false, false, true, 0, null); a.dispatchEvent(e); This code simulates a click on the opening browser window, to force the newly opened window beneath it. Evil. I'm thinking of simply preventing all simulated clicks in my own browser via a browser extension, but I wonder if I might break useful websites and behavior in the process. Therefore I wonder what situations justify simulating mouse clicks, and if there are big sites that use it in non-evil ways.

  • Easy Method to Change Color on UI Elements

    - by A13X
This isn't a language-specific thing as far as I'm concerned. I was wondering what may be a quick way to change the COLOR of a certain on-screen element such as a button and its associated text. I would assume there is a trick to making a graphics engine so maybe individuals pixels or groups of sprites can have their colors easily shifted. A lot of game interface buttons and such have this so you know when an event like a click has occurred. Any pseudo code would be helpful and I am working in Android (not XML fluff), but again, this probably is not a very specific question, just an inquiry on how to go about this.
