• How do I add additional parameters to query string of a Firefox Search Plugin?

  I have just installed the DuckDuckGo add-on in Firefox 11.0, running on XP SP 3. I would like to add additional parameters to the query string. However, any changes I make are not reflected in the query string when doing a search. I found the duckduckgo.xml file at C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Profile Name.default\searchplugins. I opened it up with Notepad++ and added the line for kl=uk-en: <SearchPlugin xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/" xmlns:os="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/"> <os:ShortName>DuckDuckGo</os:ShortName> <os:Description>Search DuckDuckGo (SSL)</os:Description> <os:InputEncoding>UTF-8</os:InputEncoding> <os:Image width="16" height="16">data:image/x-icon;base64, -Removed to shorten-</os:Image> <os:Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="https://duckduckgo.com/"> <os:Param name="q" value="{searchTerms}"/> <os:Param name="kl" value="uk-en"/> </os:Url> </SearchPlugin> However, the kl=uk-en parameter does not appear in the query string when searching (despite several Firefox restarts).

• I want to add a Quality Assurance domain. How do I handle DNS servers?

  I'm advising a large client on how to isolate their dev and testing from their production. They already have one domain, lets say xyz.net with the active directory domain as "XYZ01". I want to add second domain say QAxyz.net and make its active directory domain "QA01" All development and QA servers would be moved to the QAxyz.net domain, the machines would be part of the QA01 domain. Note: Some of these servers will have the same name as the production servers for testing purposes. I believe we would have separate DNS servers for each domain. If I am logged into the QA01 domain, to access the production domain I would qualify my access like so: \PRODSERVER.xyz.net login: XYZ01\username Do I need to add a forwarder to my QAxyz.net DNS server so that it can see xyz.net? Would I need to do the same to the xyz.net DNS server to see QAxyz.net? I don't know how to advise them in this. Does anyone have any other recommendations to isolationg a QA domain?   I have a problem that I can't seem to solve. We have a Ubuntu server setup with RAID-10 and two of the drives dropped out of the array. • How can I add a second hard drive to a previously configured UEFI/ACHI Windows 8 machine?

  Recently purchased a new Windows 8 PC. It came with one hard drive. I want to a second hard drive to it. This second hard drive is my data hard drive from my previous computer. However, I have run into issues when the system accesses it. The drive is found in the BIOS. But is not seen by Explorer or Disk Management. I have added the drive to the next available SATA slot: SATA 2. The machine is a UEFI/ACHI based machine. In my reading I have found people documenting the following: 1) adding multiple partitioned hard drives (like mine is) to UEFI based machines is not possible 2) I have seen it suggested that you can only add blank hard drives to UEFI based machines. However, in doing so, I did not have success. I tried to add it as a hard drive with unallocated space and then as a hard drive with a single simple partition. Both attempts failed. My ultimate question: What is the proper procedure for adding a second hard drive to a UEFI/ACHI machine? I do not want to reinstall the OS and start from scratch as I have seen suggested elsewhere. There has to be a way to accomplish this without all that hassle. Thanks in advance for your help.

• Why won't Media Monkey add one particular folder of mp3's?

  I'm using the latest and greatest version on Media Monkey (free version) and it won't find the mp3's in one particular folder in my music tree. It can see all the other files in the tree and the folder shows up when I click Add/Rescan files to the library... I have full control over the folder and all the files in the folder. The files play in Windows Media Player. The files play in Media Monkey if I right click and play from the context menu. All the tracks are at least 2 minutes long and over 5MB long and Media Monkey is set to ignore files shorter than 20KB and include all files regardless of length. There was an issue in that the that the genre of the tracks was set to "Classical" and the option that allows you to browse the classical music independently of the other music isn't enabled in the free version. It's a Gold version option only. I hadn't spotted that my other classical music was also missing from the library (I have rather a large library). Once I retagged the music with a different tag and tried to add the files again it reported that it added the tracks, but they still didn't show up in the library.

• Is there a simple context-menu add-in that could make-up for the Windows-7 status bar deficiency?

  Edit: I initially asked about free disk space and selected item size. It has since been pointed out that the selected item size summary is still availiable natively in the details pane. I had read elsewhere (wikipedia) that this was removed along with disk free space, which is not the case. Only free disk space has been completely removed. Selection size is still availiable. Is there a context menu add-in out there that could show the free disk space of the relevant drive, when you right click? This would go a long way to compensating for one of the only steps backward I’ve discovered in Windows 7 so far. I doubt anyone had created one specifially for this need before windows 7 because this information was previously easily accessible in the status bar. I thought about creating one, but it has been a while since I have messed with the Shell API, and I know there are coders out there who could do it faster and better. If you’ve heard of one, or know of something else to make-up for this Microsoft misstep, I’d appreciate hearing about it. If MS were listing to the community they would already have a powertoy or add-in of some kind to un-break this. (they could release it unsupported even), as there seem to be many power users that are extremely annoyed by this feature removal decision. If anyone has seen something, please post it here. As it has been only 4 days since official Windows 7 release, I'll wait at least a week to chose an answer. Here's a picture of protoype screenshot: SU question 19232 is related.

  I needed to build a dynamic filter and I wanted to keep using entities. Because of this reason I wanted to use the PredicateBuilder from albahari. • Can I add a portrait layout on top of a landscape Camera SurfaceView?

  My application should hold a camera preview surface. Now I need to have an overlay that holds a bunch of buttons. Due to usability, the user interface should be set to portrait view (or even better orientation aware). Is there a way to have a transparent layout (for buttons and other GUI elements) in portrait orientation?   Hi, I have a problem that has been bugging me all day. I understand the button event fires AFTER the Page_Load fires so the value isn't updated until the next postback. Real nightmare. Preferably I'd like this done in another method as the filtering will be re-used across multiple repositories. Unfortunately when I do query.Where it has become an IQueryable<MovementSummary>. I'm assuming it has become this as I'm returning an IEnumerable<MovementSummary>. I've only just started learning LINQ, so be gentle.

Is there a way to instruct jQuery UI to only set the <li> children of <ul id="main-tabs"> as the tabs? Note: I am currently in no position to change <ul id="filter-controls" into a non-ul element.

You would expect that the build would see this and report an error. This is not true however. First we setup the scenario. Add a ConsoleApplication project to your solution you are building. In the Main function set the ExitCode to 1     class Program    {        static void Main(string[] args)        {            Console.WriteLine("This is an error in the script.");            Environment.ExitCode = 1;        }    } Checkin the code. You can choose to include this Console Application in the build or you can decide to add the exe to source control Now modify the Build Process Template CustomTemplate.xaml Add an argument ErrornousScript Scroll down beneath the TryCatch activity called “Try Compile, Test, and Associate Changesets and Work Items” Add an Sequence activity to the template In the Sequence, add a ConvertWorkspaceItem and an InvokeProcess activity (see Part 14: Execute a PowerShell script  for more detailed steps) In the FileName property of the InvokeProcess use the ErrornousScript so the ConsoleApplication will be called. Modify the build definition and make sure that the ErrornousScript is executing the exe that is setting the ExitCode to 1. You have now setup a build definition that will execute the errornous Console Application. When you run it, you will see that the build succeeds. This is not what you want! To solve this, you can make use of the Result property on the InvokeProcess activity. So lets change our Build Process Template. Add the new variables (scoped to the sequence where you run the Console Application) called ExitCode (type = Int32) and ErrorMessage Click on the InvokeProcess activity and change the Result property to ExitCode In the Handle Standard Output of the InvokeProcess add a Sequence activity In the Sequence activity, add an Assign primitive. Set the following properties: To = ErrorMessage Value = If(Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(ErrorMessage), Environment.NewLine + ErrorMessage, "") + stdOutput And add the default BuildMessage to the sequence that outputs the stdOutput Add beneath the InvokeProcess activity and If activity with the condition ExitCode <> 0 In the Then section add a Throw activity and set the Exception property to New Exception(ErrorMessage) The complete workflow looks now like When you now check in the Build Process Template and run the build, you get the following result And that is exactly what we want.   You can download the full solution at BuildProcess.zip. • ColdFusion Server crash after thousands of HTTP requests

  We are running ColdFusion 8 on a windows server 2003 VPS with an API that exposes student records to a partner API through a connector. Our API returns around 50k student records serialized in XML format pretty seamlessly. My question originates when something very frightening happened today when we tested our connector to our partners API. Our entire website and web host went down. We assumed that our host was just having some issues and after 4 hours with no resolution and no response from their customer service we finally got a response from them claiming that they had an "unauthorized user" in their network. After our server was back up we were unable to connect to our website as if the web service or coldfusion itself had froze. This is really where my concern comes from as I fear we may have overloaded the web service. As I mentioned before we tried sending over 50k HTTP POST requests over to our partner's API, however everything stopped after around 1.6k Is this bad practice or is there some sort of rate limiting I can relax somewhere in server configuration? We managed to find a workaround, but it bypasses our connector which is critical to our design. This would have been a one time deal as the purpose of so many requests was to populate our partner's website with current data, after that hourly syncs will keep requests down to around 100 per hour. UPDATE Our partner API is owned and operated by Pardot. We are converting students to prospects by passing student data to their API which unfortunately only seems to accept one student at a time. For that reason we have to do all 50k requests individually. Our server has 4GB of RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.8GHz running Windows Server 2003 SP2. I monitored the server during a 100 student sync, a 400 student sync, and a 1.4k student sync with the following results: 100 students - 2.25GB of Memory, 30-40% CPU utilization, 0.2-0.3% network bandwidth 400 students - 2.30GB of Memory, 30-50% CPU utilization, 0.2-1.0% network bandwidth 1.4k students - 2.30GB of Memory, 30-70% CPU utilization, 0.2-1.0% network bandwidth I know this is a far cry from 50k students, but I don't want to risk taking down our CMS system again assuming that was the cause.   I know that I can add command line parameters to the grub2 command line by editing /etc/default/grub according to this answer How do I add a boot parameter to grub2 in Ubuntu 10.10? However, that would apply to ALL kernels would it not? How do I apply the command line parameters to specific kernels? i.e. only xen. I've tried using this tutorial as a starting point, but I'm running into an issue that I can't figure out. The problem is that when I do a GET to my servlet, I get back a 404 error. • Why do some websites add "Slugs" to the end of URLs?

  Many websites, including this one, add what are apparently called slugs - descriptive but as far as I can tell useless bits of text - to the end of URLs. For example, the URL the site gives for this question is: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/47427/why-do-some-websites-add-slugs-to-the-end-of-urls But the following URL works just as well: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/47427/ Is the point of this text just to somehow make the URL more user friendly or are there some other benefits?
