  • Create a table of Quantiles in R for multiple Subsets of Data

    I'm trying to create append a table of quantiles in R for multiple subsets of data. Right now, I have a vector of ids (p_ids) in table DATA, which are not consecutive. For each value in p_ids, I am looking to list the quantile. So far, I've tried variations of: i <- 1 n <- 1 for (i in p_ids) { while(n <= nrow(data)) { quantiles[n] <- quantile(subset(alldata$variableA, alldata$variableB == i),probs = c(0,1,2,3)/3) n <- n + 1 } } I know my issue lies somewhere in the index, but I can't seem to get where the index should go. Suggestions?

    Hey guys! So i'm having problems with my assignment. I successfully got it to run multiple last names by the author, but now, I need to find all books by author, which means searching the collection for all books that match the specified author and I also need to find all books by publisher, which displays a list of books by the specified publisher. How would I implement this? Would I use string or vector? Any help will be much appreciated!

  • Proper use of use of "cor" function in R

    I am interested to know what a proper x (vector matrix or data frame) input looks like. I am currently using the function in two different sorts of matrices. However, I am not sure how R would interpret my data the way I intend. I will explain the types of matrix by example. Type 1 Gene1 Gene2 Gene3 sample1 sample2 Type 2 Sample1 Sample2 Sample3 gene 1 gene 2 gene 3 Are either of these formats valid x parameters? I input both of types of matrices and get some results, but without knowing whether or not this a proper use the function, these are just random numbers. Thank you for your time.     Hi, In C++, I have a base class A, a sub class B. Both have the virtual method Visit. I would like to redefine 'Visit' in B, but B need to access the 'Visit' function of each A (and all subclass to). I have something like that, but it tell me that B cannot access the protected member of A!     I have no matching function for call to 'saveLine::saveLine()' error when compiling my application.     Using haproxy, I want: A pool of 'main' servers and 'backup' servers, though they don't necessarily have to be in separate pools. Each backend has a low 'maxconn' (in this case 1) Clients should not wait in a queue. If there are no immediately available servers in the 'main' pool they should be shunted to the 'backup' pool without delay. Right now I have one backend, 'main' servers have an absurdly high weighting and it 'works'. acl use_backend + connslots is along the right lines but without the patch in my own answer it isn't perfect. Bonus points for not requiring a modified haproxy binary.

  • Intersection of line and rectangle with maximum segment length

    I have a vector represented by the slope m. Then there is rectangle (assume axis aligned), which is represented by top-left and bottom-right corner. Of course, there may be many lines with slope m and intersecting the given rectangle. The problem is to find out the line whose length of line intercept inside the rectangle is maximum among all such lines. i.e., if the line intersects rectangle at P1 and P2, then the problem is to find the equation of line for which length of P1P2 is maximum. I proceeded like this. Let the line is: y = m*x + c. Then find out the intersection with each side of rectangle and finding out the maxima for distance function between each pair of points. But it will only give me the length of line segment and there seem to be many corner cases to handle. Could anyone please suggest a better way to do this. Thanks in advance.

    Title probably doesn't make a lot of sense, so I'll start with some code: class Foo : public std::vector<Foo> { }; ... Foo f; f.push_back( Foo() ); Why is this allowed by the compiler? My brain is melting at this stage, so can anyone explain whether there are any reasons you would want to do this? Unfortunately I've just seen a similar pattern in some production C# code and wondered why anyone would use this pattern.

If the global x-axis is within 0.1° of being normal to the surface, the local 1-direction is the projection of the global z-axis onto the surface. let's suppose that these points are: t1 = [-0.362879991531372, 0.357021987438202, -0.373737007379532] t2 = [-0.383525013923645, 0.371621012687683, -0.383549988269806] t3 = [-0.383534014225006, 0.34629300236702, -0.38544899225235] is the vector [0.78280971952246, -0.0307519963686645, 0.411184845614438] correct answer in this case? i've calculated the angle between the surf and x (1,0,0) is ~28°. and can you give the entire procedure for the calculation, because i'm just puzzled.

  • C++: need indexed set

    I need an indexed associative container that operates as follows: initially empty, size=0. when I add a new element to it, it places it at index [size], very similar to a vector's push_back. It increments the size and returns the index of the newly added element. if the element already exists, it returns the index where it occurs. Set seems the ideal data structure for this but I don't see any thing like getting an index from a find operation. Find on a set returns an iterator to the element. Will taking the difference with set.begin() be the correct thing to do in this situation?

  • How to avoid specifying full path in sudoers file?

    I am trying to add a NOPASSWD entry for sudotest.sh (or any script/binary that requires sudo) in my /etc/sudoers file (on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server), but in order to make it work, I must specify the full path. The following entry works just fine: %jenkins ALL=(ALL)NOPASSWD:/home/vts_share/test/sudotest.sh The problem is that the script might move to a different directory. This seems like a great chance to use the * wildcard in the path (i.e. /*/sudotest.sh) so that my script could be in any directory but the manual states that wildcards will not match the / character when used in a path. I've confirmed that it doesn't work. I know that I can use the word ALL in place of my script, but this means there is no password prompt for any commands which seems unsafe. How do I solve this?

    I'm currently mining sequence patterns using SPADE algorithm in R. SPADE is included in "arulesSequence" package of R. I'm running R on my CentOS 6.3 64bit. For an exercise, I've tried an example presented in http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Data_Mining_Algorithms_In_R/Sequence_Mining/SPADE When I tried to do "cspade(x, parameter = list(support = 0.4), control = list(verbose = TRUE))" R says: parameter specification: support : 0.4 maxsize : 10 maxlen : 10 algorithmic control: bfstype : FALSE verbose : TRUE summary : FALSE preprocessing ... 1 partition(s), 0 MB [0.096s] mining transactions ... 0 MB [0.066s] reading sequences ...Error in asMethod(object) : 's' is not an integer vector When I try to run SPADE on my Window 7 32bit, it runs well without any error. Does anybody know why such errors occur?

  • C++ function will not return

    I have a function that I am calling that runs all the way up to where it should return but doesn't return. If I cout something for debugging at the very end of the function, it gets displayed but the function does not return. fetchData is the function I am referring to. It gets called by outputFile. cout displays "done here" but not "data fetched" I know this code is messy but can anyone help me figure this out?     I was working on a Rails template and was trying to write a bit of code that allows me to populate a table or multiple columns of ul tags "top-to-bottom" and "left-to-right" across however many columns I specify. I'm just getting the hang of Ruby so I couldn't figure this out. I'm also curious about an idiomatic Haskell version for this useful snippet.     I'm trying to convert the following MATLAB code to Python and am having trouble finding a solution that works in any reasonable amount of time. M = diag(sum(a)) - a; where = vertcat(in, out); M(where,:) = 0; M(where,where) = 1; Here, a is a sparse matrix and where is a vector (as are in/out). The solution I have using Python is: M = scipy.sparse.diags([degs], [0]) - A where = numpy.hstack((inVs, outVs)).astype(int) M = scipy.sparse.lil_matrix(M) M[where, :] = 0 # This is the slowest line M[where, where] = 1 M = scipy.sparse.csc_matrix(M) But since A is 334863x334863, this takes like three minutes. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this faster, please contribute them! For comparison, MATLAB does this same step imperceptibly fast. Thanks!

    Using double variable = inputFile.nextDouble(); Gives the mismatch error and I can't figure out why... Anyone know what's up? The input file is just a bunch of doubles like 5.0... As far as what its expecting the format of the file to be... I suppose binary? isn't that the default? I didn't specify in the code...

    I am using Bode's formuala to calculate distance of nth planet from sun dist = (4 + 3*(2^(n-2)))/10 If I calculate the distance this way, I get the right values: dist[2] = ((4 + 3*1)/10.0) ; dist[3] = ((4 + 3*2)/10.0) ; dist[4] = ((4 + 3*4)/10.0) ; But doing it this way, gives me incorrect values: vector double> dist(5); for (unsigned int i = 2; i < 5; i++) { dist[i] = ((4 + 3*(2^(3-2)))/10.0) ; } ` Why so?
