  • web2py error while using distinct in the queries

    Hi, I am using web2py with GAE. While using some of the queries which has a distinct clause, GAE throws out an error.I have pasted the Traceback. Can someone please help me out with this.   • ASP.NET MVC - separating large app

    I've been puzzled by what I consider a contradiction in terms: ASP.NET MVC claims to be furthering and supporting the "separation of concern" motto, which I find a great idea. However, it seems there's no way of separating out controllers, model or views into their own assembly, or separating areas into assemblies. With the fixed Controller, Model and View folders in your ASP.NET MVC, you're actually creating a huge hodge podge of things. Is that the separation of concerns, really?? Seems like quite the contrary to me. So what I'm wondering: how can I create an ASP.NET MVC solution that will either separate out controllers, the model, and the folders full of views, into separate assemblies? how can I put areas of ASP.NET MVC 2 into separate assemblies? or how else do you manage a large ASP.NET MVC app - which has several dozen or even over a hundred controllers, lots of model and viewmodel classes, and several hundred views?

  • ASP.Net Layered app - Share Entity Data Model amongst layers

    How can I share the auto-generated entity data model (generated object classes) amongst all layers of my C# web app whilst only granting query access in the data layer? This uses the typical 3 layer approach: data, business, presentation. My data layer returns an IEnumerable<T> to my business layer, but I cannot return type T to the presentation layer because I do not want the presentation layer to know of the existence of the data layer - which is where the entity framework auto-generated my classes. It was recommended to have a seperate layer with just the data model, but I'm unsure how to seperate the data model from the query functionality the entity framework provides.

  • Client-side framework for web-app with good audio support

    I'm trying to create a client-side web app that generates music procedurally using some user-input parameters, so I'm looking for a framework (e.g. Flash, Silverlight etc.) that has the capability to play audio at a specified pitch. Whether it is playing a WAV/MP3 file, using MIDI output, or just playing beeps doesn't really matter -- I just need something that will enable me to generate arbitrary music client-side. I've done a bit of searching and it appears that Flash might have the ability to change pitch with the help of a third-part plugin, but I couldn't find anything similar for Silverlight. I can go a try all them out manually if need be, but I thought I'd ask here first just in case anyone had tried something like this before. Thanks in advance

  • Use Google AppEngine datastore outside of AppEngine project

    For my little framework Pyxer I would like to to be able to use the Google AppEngine datastores also outside of AppEngine projects, because I'm now used to this ORM pattern and for little quick hacks this is nice. I can not use Google AppEngine for all of my projects because of its's limitations in file size and number of files. A great alternative would also be, if there was a project that provides an ORM with the same naming as the AppEngine datastore. I also like the GQL approach very much, since this is a nice combination of ORM and SQL patterns. Any ideas where or how I might find such a solution? Thanks.

But i can configure the device to send the data over port 80. so we wrote a genericservlet to capture this data on GAE. But it is not obtaining any values from the client. any suggestions to fix this issue?

  • How to reference another project in Eclipse with Google appengine project?

    I am trying to extract some common classes out to be a common jar, and I want to reference it by the appengine project in Eclipse. It compiles well but could not run. The console just told that some classes from the common jar project could not be found. I know I can just export the project into a jar, but I may want to change it sometimes, so I prefer keep it dynamic. And I know maven may be an option but there is no official maven support for appengine, and I will not try to learn it. Then how can I make it work?

  • One config file for multiple environments

    I'm currently working with systems that has quite a lot of configuration settings that are environment specific (Dev, UAT, Production). Does anyone have any suggestions for minimizing the changes needed to the config file when moving between environments as well as minimizing the duplication of data in the config file? It's mostly Application settings rather than User settings. The way I'm doing it at the moment is something similar to this: <DevConnectionString>xyz</DevConnectionString> <DevInboundPath>xyz</DevInboundPath> <DevProcessedPath>xyz</DevProcessedPath> <UatConnectionString>xyz</UatConnectionString> <UatInboundPath>xyz</UatInboundPath> <UatProcessedPath>xyz</UatProcessedPath> ... <Environment>Dev</Environment> And then I have a class that reads in the Environment setting via the My.Settings class (it's VB project) and then uses that to decide what other settings to retrieve. This leads to too much duplication though so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

    I need a simple tagging system in GAE-J. As I see it, the entity that is being tagged should have a collection of keys referring to the tags with which it's associated. A tag entity should simply contain the tag string itself, and a collection of keys pointing to the entities associated with the tag. When an entity's list of tags is altered, the system will create a new tag if the tag is unknown, and then append the entity's key to that tag's key collection. If the tag already exists, then the entity's key is simply appended to the tag's key collection. This seems relatively straight-forward and uncontroversial to me, but I would like some feedback on this design, just to be sure.

  • Shutting down a WPF application from App.xaml.cs

    I am currently writing a WPF application which does command-line argument handling in App.xaml.cs (which is necessary because the Startup event seems to be the recommended way of getting at those arguments). Based on the arguments I want to exit the program at that point already which, as far as I know, should be done in WPF with Application.Current.Shutdown() or in this case (as I am in the current application object) probably also just this.Shutdown(). The only problem is that this doesn't seem to work right. I've stepped through with the debugger and code after the Shutdown() line still gets executed which leads to errors afterwards in the method, since I expected the application not to live that long. Also the main window (declared in the StartupUri attribute in XAML) still gets loaded. I've checked the documentation of that method and found nothing in the remarks that tell me that I shouldn't use it during Application.Startup or Application at all. So, what is the right way to exit the program at that point, i. e. the Startup event handler in an Application object?

  • Corrupt iPhone App Name

    I've done an adhoc build to test an application, but when I drag it into iTunes to add to my devices it is getting a corrupt name. It comes up with the name "Myapp Name <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//APPLE//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"" which continues with the whole plist I've tried the obvious, clean/rebuild/reboot. This worked fine last time I worked on the app and I've done nothing to project settings other than incement the version number and a couple of minor code changes. I've since update XCode to 3.2.1 and iTunes to 9.0.3. Anyone seen this before?

  • Server side form validation and POST data

    Hi, I have a user input form here: http://www.7bks.com/create (Google login required) When you first create a list you are asked to create a public username. Unfortuantely currently there is no constraint to make this unique. I'm working on the code to enforce unique usernames at the moment and would like to know the best way to do it. Tech details: appengine, python, webapp framework What I'm planning is something like this: first the /create form posts the data to /inputlist/ (this is the same as currently happens) /inputlist/ queries the datastore for the given username. If it already exists then redirect back to /create display the /create page with all the info previously but with an additional error message of "this username is already taken" My question is: Is this the best way of handling server side validation? What's the best way of storing the list details while I verify and modify the username? As I see it I have 3 options to store the list details but I'm not sure which is "best": Store the list details in the session cookie (I am using GAEsessions for cookies) Define a separate POST class for /create and post the list data back from /inputlist/ to the /create page (currently /create only has a GET class) Store the list in the datastore, even though the username is non-unique. Thank you very much for your help :) I'm pretty new to python and coding in general so if I've missed something obvious my apologies. Tom PS - I'm sure I can eventually figure it out but I can't find any documentation on POSTing data using the webapp appengine framework which I'd need in order to do solution 2 above :s maybe you could point me in the right direction for that too?   • Emailing HTML from within an iPhone app is stopping at special characters

    Hi, I have an iPhone app that will let users email some pre-determined text as HTML. I'm having a problem in that if the text contains special characters within the text (e.g., ampersand &, , <), the NSString variable that I use for sending the body of the email gets truncated at the special character. I'm not sure how to fix this (I tried using the method stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding…but this hasn't fixed the problems). Thoughts on what I'm doing wrong / how to fix it?     There are lots of questions that ask this or a similar question. They all give the command that has to be executed, what I don't understand is where do I write this command. I want to permanently increase the heap space for my tomcat apps. I read this page http://javahowto.blogspot.com/2006/06/6-common-errors-in-setting-java-heap.html and it says under the Tomcat section Stop Tomcat server, set environment variable CATALINA_OPTS, and then restart Tomcat. Look at the file tomcat-install/bin/catalina.sh or catalina.bat for how this variable is used. For example, set CATALINA_OPTS=-Xms512m -Xmx512m (Windows, no "" around the value) export CATALINA_OPTS="-Xms512m -Xmx512m" (ksh/bash, "" around the value) setenv CATALINA_OPTS "-Xms512m -Xmx512m" (tcsh/csh, "" around the value) So I replaced the line set CATALINA_OPTS= with set CATALINA_OPTS=-Xms512m -Xmx512m But I still get the error.

Currently I am working on a project where I have to display an individual map (not a google maps view, I'd like to display the map of a building's interior) with which the user can interact(mark positions, etc.). Is there a framework or an existing app that I could use? Of course I searched the internet but could not find anything. Perhaps it is in some way possible to use the google maps API?     Hello, I have created an application that records a series of longitude and latitude values in a SQLite database and display them as a coloured track on a MapActivity. I now want to be able to export this data somehow (preferably to a file) so a user can upload the values to a website showing a Google Map API.   • Using Scala and StringTemplate, how do I loop through a Map

    I have my environment setup nicely using Scala, StringTempalte within the Google AppEngine. I am having trouble looping through a Map and getting it to display in the template. When I assign a simple List of just Strings to the template it works using: In Scala Servlet: var photos = List[String]() //... get photo url and title ... photos = photo_url :: photos template.setAttribute("photos", photos: _*) In Template: $photos: { photo| <div><img src="$photo$_s.jpg"></div> }$ The above works. However, any attempt of creating a Map using url and title and assigning to the template gives me an error. Here is my attempt, which does not work: In Scala Servlet: var photos = List[Map[String,String]]() //... get photo url and title ... photos = Map("url" -> url, "title" -> title) :: photos template.setAttribute("photos", photos: _*) In Template: $photos: { photo| <div><img src="$photo.url$_s.jpg" title="$photo.title$"></div> }$ This gives me the following error Class scala.collection.immutable.Map$Map2 has no such attribute: title in template context Thoughts / Ideas ?

I saw another post with this error but i couldn't figure out how to get it right.. i get this error: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSUnknownKeyException', reason: '[ setValue:forUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key ImageView.' and i have no clue what this means ? 0.o can some help me here ?
