• Exchange DiskShadow/Robocopy backup does not purge log files

  I have a series of scripts setup to backup my Exchange. The following command is executed to start the process: diskshadow /s C:\Backup_Scripts\exchangeserverbackupscript1.dsh This is exchangeserverbackupscript1.dsh: #DiskShadow script file set verbose on #delete shadows all set context persistent writer verify {76fe1ac4-15f7-4bcd-987e-8e1acb462fb7} set metadata C:\Backup_Scripts\shadowmetadata.cab begin backup add volume C: alias SH1 create expose %SH1% P: exec C:\Backup_Scripts\exchangeserverbackupscript1.cmd end backup delete shadows exposed P: exit #End of script And this is exchangeserverbackupscript1.cmd: robocopy "P:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group" "\\leahyfs\J$\E-Mail Backups\Day 1" /MIR /R:0 /W:0 /COPY:DT /B This is not causing Exchange to purge its log files. The edb file is 4.7 gigabytes, but the First Storage Group folder itself is 50+ gigabytes due to many, many log files for each day going back to 2009. Is there any way -- I've Googled and haven't found anything -- to notify Exchange when I've completed a full backup, and have it purge its log files? According to this and this, end backup should cause Exchange to "flush the transaction logs for that storage group" but only "if a successful backup of a storage group occurred", which leaves my question as: What constitutes a "successful backup", and why is what I'm doing not it?

• BackupExec 12 + RALUS - VERY slow backups

  We use Backup Exec 12 and the Remote Agent for Linux/Unix Servers (RALUS) to backup a large RHEL5 system. For various reasons we need to do a daily working set job. These working-set jobs run abysmally slow. The link between the target machine and the BE server is gigabit, and any other type of job runs 1-3GB/min. These working-set jobs start out at perhaps 40MB/min and over the course of the backup job slowly drops down so low that the BE job rate display in the "current jobs" goes blank.. Since we usually are only doing changed-files for one day, the job is usually small and finishes overnight and we don't worry abotu the slowness, but we had some issues with the backup server, and missed about 6 days of fairly heavy work on the Linux box, so this working-set job will be a doozy.. We have support with Symantec, and I've pestered them a lot about this, they've had me run RALUS in debug mode, sent them that log and a VXgather from the BE host and they had no fix/workaround.. To give an idea, I have the mentioned working-set job running for the last 3 1/2 hours and it's backed up just under 10MEGAbytes.... I'm posting this here to see if anybody in the "real world" has seen this/and/or has any ideas what might be causing these abysmally slow jobs, since Symantec seems to be clueless...

• Deployment and Ownership issues

  As an extreme newbie, I am having difficulty managing ownership and permissions on my first box. What I can't figure out is how to deploy using one user, we will call him deploy and operate my php application with www-data user. Currently as it stands, I know my server runs as www-data through this function <?php echo(exec("whoami")); ?> but I am having to chown between deploy and www-data every time I deploy. There has got to be an easier way to deploy with one user and still run as www-data. EDIT: Here is the output from ls- l on the folder in question. You will see user deploy and group www-pub, the group is from an attempt to add the two different users to a new group and chown one of them in the hopes that they both would have the permissions (newb alert) drwxrwxr-x 4 deploy www-pub 4096 Mar 7 01:41 example.com I am using capistrano for deployment under the user deploy then once its done i chown to www-data, otherwise I can't use php to manipulate files. I am also unsure how to even change which user apache is running.

• Cron won't use msmtp to send emails in case of failed cronjob

  I'm trying to configure a machine so that it will send me an email if one of the cronjobs output something in case of an error. I'm using Debian Wheezy. Cron is working normally (without the email functionality). msmtp is installed and configured. Have already symlinked /usr/{bin|sbin}/sendmail to /usr/bin/msmtp. I can send email by using: echo "test" | mail -s "subject" [email protected] or by executing: echo "test" | /usr/sbin/sendmail Without the symlink (/usr/sbin/sendmail) cron will tell me that: (CRON) info (No MTA installed, discarding output) With the symlinks I get: (root) MAIL (mailed 1 byte of output; but got status 0x004e, #012) Can you suggest how to config the cron/msmtp pair? Thanks! EDIT: Note: I've written "msmtpd" by mistake. Its not a daemon but rather an SMTP client named just "msmtp" (without the "d" ending). It is executed on demand and it is not running in the background all the time. So it looks like that the msmtp client is working properly. It has to be something in the cron/msmtp integration, but I have no clue what that thing might be. Can you help me?

• VirtualBox problems writing to shared folders (Guest Additions installed)

  I am trying to setup a shared folder from the host (ubuntu 10.10) to mount on a virtualized CentOS 5.5 with Guest Additions (4.0.0) installed (Guest addition features are working ie. seamless mode etc.). I am able to successfully mount the share with: mount -t vboxsf -o rw,exec,uid=48,gid=48 sf_html /var/www/html/ (uid and guid belong to the apache user/group) the only problem is that once mounted and I try to write/create directories and files I get the following: mkdir: cannot create directory `/var/www/html/test': Protocol error I am using the proprietary version of VirtualBox version 4.0.0 r69151. Has anyone had the same problem and been able to fix it or has any idea how to potentially fix this? Another question, the reason for setting this up is this. Our production servers are on CentOS 5.5 however I am a great fan of Ubuntu and would like to develop on Ubuntu rather than CentOS. However in order to stay as close to the production environment I would like to virtualize CentOS to use a web server and use the shared folder as web root. Anyone know whether this isn't a good idea? Has anyone successfully been able to set this up? Thanks guys, your help is always much appreciated and if you need any more information please let me know.

• Upstart: cannot run as root

  I have made this upstart script, which starts a Node.js service. But all of the sudden the service has stopped, and upstart has failed to restart it. Now that I am trying to start it manually, it fails to recognize my service: start: Unknown job: queue The script is properly placed in /etc/init, and should have the correct rights: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 200 Aug 7 13:30 queue.conf When I check the config file with init-checkconf however, it says that it is not able to run as root: root@production1:~# init-checkconf /etc/init/queue.conf ERROR: cannot run as root What causes this error and how do I solve it?   I am trying to run the following code snippet as part of a tool to gather and log some pertinent system diagnostics. The purpose of this snippet is to gather the result of running the command: vssadmin list writers The snippet is as follows: ' Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") ' WScript.Echo sCurPath & "\vsswritercheck.bat" ' Set WshShellExec = WshShell.Exec("elevate.cmd cmd.exe /c " & sCurPath & "\vsswritercheck.bat") Set oShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application") oShell.ShellExecute "cmd.exe", sCurPath & "\vsswritercheck.bat", , "runas", 1 vsswriter = VSSWriterCheck Select Case oShell.Status Case WshFinished strOutput = oShell.StdOut.ReadAll Case WshFailed strOutput = oShell.StdErr.ReadAll End Select WScript.Echo strOutPut vsswriter = strOutPut With the first code snippet (commented out) I can run the command and capture stdout from the batch file. In the second code snipped, I cannot capture stdout. I need to be able to run the batch script with Elevated permissions, so I am looking for a compromise between the functionality of the two. I cannot run the entire calling script in elevated mode due to restrictions from other pieces of functionality. I am looking for any ideas on how to add this output to my log as I am running out of options that are within the scope of basic scripts.

• Detecting HTML5/CSS3 Features using Modernizr

  HTML5, CSS3, and related technologies such as canvas and web sockets bring a lot of useful new features to the table that can take Web applications to the next level. These new technologies allow applications to be built using only HTML, CSS, and JavaScript allowing them to be viewed on a variety of form factors including tablets and phones. Although HTML5 features offer a lot of promise, it’s not realistic to develop applications using the latest technologies without worrying about supporting older browsers in the process. If history has taught us anything it’s that old browsers stick around for years and years which means developers have to deal with backward compatibility issues. This is especially true when deploying applications to the Internet that target the general public. This begs the question, “How do you move forward with HTML5 and CSS3 technologies while gracefully handling unsupported features in older browsers?” Although you can write code by hand to detect different HTML5 and CSS3 features, it’s not always straightforward. For example, to check for canvas support you need to write code similar to the following:   <script> window.onload = function () { if (canvasSupported()) { alert('canvas supported'); } }; function canvasSupported() { var canvas = document.createElement('canvas'); return (canvas.getContext && canvas.getContext('2d')); } </script> If you want to check for local storage support the following check can be made. It’s more involved than it should be due to a bug in older versions of Firefox. <script> window.onload = function () { if (localStorageSupported()) { alert('local storage supported'); } }; function localStorageSupported() { try { return ('localStorage' in window && window['localStorage'] != null); } catch(e) {} return false; } </script> Looking through the previous examples you can see that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to checking browsers for HTML5 and CSS3 features. It takes a lot of work to test every possible scenario and every version of a given browser. Fortunately, you don’t have to resort to writing custom code to test what HTML5/CSS3 features a given browser supports. By using a script library called Modernizr you can add checks for different HTML5/CSS3 features into your pages with a minimal amount of code on your part. Let’s take a look at some of the key features Modernizr offers.   Getting Started with Modernizr The first time I heard the name “Modernizr” I thought it “modernized” older browsers by added missing functionality. In reality, Modernizr doesn’t actually handle adding missing features or “modernizing” older browsers. The Modernizr website states, “The name Modernizr actually stems from the goal of modernizing our development practices (and ourselves)”. Because it relies on feature detection rather than browser sniffing (a common technique used in the past – that never worked that great), Modernizr definitely provides a more modern way to test features that a browser supports and can even handle loading additional scripts called shims or polyfills that fill in holes that older browsers may have. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal if you’re a web developer. Modernizr is available at http://modernizr.com. Two different types of scripts are available including a development script and custom production script. To generate a production script, the site provides a custom script generation tool rather than providing a single script that has everything under the sun for HTML5/CSS3 feature detection. Using the script generation tool you can pick the specific test functionality that you need and ignore everything that you don’t need. That way the script is kept as small as possible. An example of the custom script download screen is shown next. Notice that specific CSS3, HTML5, and related feature tests can be selected. Once you’ve downloaded your custom script you can add it into your web page using the standard <script> element and you’re ready to start using Modernizr. <script src="Scripts/Modernizr.js" type="text/javascript"></script>   Modernizr and the HTML Element Once you’ve add a script reference to Modernizr in a page it’ll go to work for you immediately. In fact, by adding the script several different CSS classes will be added to the page’s <html> element at runtime. These classes define what features the browser supports and what features it doesn’t support. Features that aren’t supported get a class name of “no-FeatureName”, for example “no-flexbox”. Features that are supported get a CSS class name based on the feature such as “canvas” or “websockets”. An example of classes added when running a page in Chrome is shown next:   <html class=" js flexbox canvas canvastext webgl no-touch geolocation postmessage websqldatabase indexeddb hashchange history draganddrop websockets rgba hsla multiplebgs backgroundsize borderimage borderradius boxshadow textshadow opacity cssanimations csscolumns cssgradients cssreflections csstransforms csstransforms3d csstransitions fontface generatedcontent video audio localstorage sessionstorage webworkers applicationcache svg inlinesvg smil svgclippaths"> Here’s an example of what the <html> element looks like at runtime with Internet Explorer 9:   <html class=" js no-flexbox canvas canvastext no-webgl no-touch geolocation postmessage no-websqldatabase no-indexeddb hashchange no-history draganddrop no-websockets rgba hsla multiplebgs backgroundsize no-borderimage borderradius boxshadow no-textshadow opacity no-cssanimations no-csscolumns no-cssgradients no-cssreflections csstransforms no-csstransforms3d no-csstransitions fontface generatedcontent video audio localstorage sessionstorage no-webworkers no-applicationcache svg inlinesvg smil svgclippaths">   When using Modernizr it’s a common practice to define an <html> element in your page with a no-js class added as shown next:   <html class="no-js">   You’ll see starter projects such as HTML5 Boilerplate (http://html5boilerplate.com) or Initializr (http://initializr.com) follow this approach (see my previous post for more information on HTML5 Boilerplate). By adding the no-js class it’s easy to tell if a browser has JavaScript enabled or not. If JavaScript is disabled then no-js will stay on the <html> element. If JavaScript is enabled, no-js will be removed by Modernizr and a js class will be added along with other classes that define supported/unsupported features. Working with HTML5 and CSS3 Features You can use the CSS classes added to the <html> element directly in your CSS files to determine what style properties to use based upon the features supported by a given browser. For example, the following CSS can be used to render a box shadow for browsers that support that feature and a simple border for browsers that don’t support the feature: .boxshadow #MyContainer { border: none; -webkit-box-shadow: #666 1px 1px 1px; -moz-box-shadow: #666 1px 1px 1px; } .no-boxshadow #MyContainer { border: 2px solid black; }   If a browser supports box-shadows the boxshadow CSS class will be added to the <html> element by Modernizr. It can then be associated with a given element. This example associates the boxshadow class with a div with an id of MyContainer. If the browser doesn’t support box shadows then the no-boxshadow class will be added to the <html> element and it can be used to render a standard border around the div. This provides a great way to leverage new CSS3 features in supported browsers while providing a graceful fallback for older browsers. In addition to using the CSS classes that Modernizr provides on the <html> element, you also use a global Modernizr object that’s created. This object exposes different properties that can be used to detect the availability of specific HTML5 or CSS3 features. For example, the following code can be used to detect canvas and local storage support. You can see that the code is much simpler than the code shown at the beginning of this post. It also has the added benefit of being tested by a large community of web developers around the world running a variety of browsers.   $(document).ready(function () { if (Modernizr.canvas) { //Add canvas code } if (Modernizr.localstorage) { //Add local storage code } }); The global Modernizr object can also be used to test for the presence of CSS3 features. The following code shows how to test support for border-radius and CSS transforms:   $(document).ready(function () { if (Modernizr.borderradius) { $('#MyDiv').addClass('borderRadiusStyle'); } if (Modernizr.csstransforms) { $('#MyDiv').addClass('transformsStyle'); } });   Several other CSS3 feature tests can be performed such as support for opacity, rgba, text-shadow, CSS animations, CSS transitions, multiple backgrounds, and more. A complete list of supported HTML5 and CSS3 tests that Modernizr supports can be found at http://www.modernizr.com/docs.   Loading Scripts using Modernizr In cases where a browser doesn’t support a specific feature you can either provide a graceful fallback or load a shim/polyfill script to fill in missing functionality where appropriate (more information about shims/polyfills can be found at https://github.com/Modernizr/Modernizr/wiki/HTML5-Cross-Browser-Polyfills). Modernizr has a built-in script loader that can be used to test for a feature and then load a script if the feature isn’t available. The script loader is built-into Modernizr and is also available as a standalone yepnope script (http://yepnopejs.com). It’s extremely easy to get started using the script loader and it can really simplify the process of loading scripts based on the availability of a particular browser feature. To load scripts dynamically you can use Modernizr’s load() function which accepts properties defining the feature to test (test property), the script to load if the test succeeds (yep property), the script to load if the test fails (nope property), and a script to load regardless of if the test succeeds or fails (both property). An example of using load() with these properties is show next: Modernizr.load({ test: Modernizr.canvas, yep: 'html5CanvasAvailable.js’, nope: 'excanvas.js’, both: 'myCustomScript.js' }); In this example Modernizr is used to not only load scripts but also to test for the presence of the canvas feature. If the target browser supports the HTML5 canvas then the html5CanvasAvailable.js script will be loaded along with the myCustomScript.js script (use of the yep property in this example is a bit contrived – it was added simply to demonstrate how the property can be used in the load() function). Otherwise, a polyfill script named excanvas.js will be loaded to add missing canvas functionality for Internet Explorer versions prior to 9. Once excanvas.js is loaded the myCustomScript.js script will be loaded. Because Modernizr handles loading scripts, you can also use it in creative ways. For example, you can use it to load local scripts when a 3rd party Content Delivery Network (CDN) such as one provided by Google or Microsoft is unavailable for whatever reason. The Modernizr documentation provides the following example that demonstrates the process for providing a local fallback for jQuery when a CDN is down:   Modernizr.load([ { load: '//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.4/jquery.js', complete: function () { if (!window.jQuery) { Modernizr.load('js/libs/jquery-1.6.4.min.js'); } } }, { // This will wait for the fallback to load and // execute if it needs to. load: 'needs-jQuery.js' } ]); This code attempts to load jQuery from the Google CDN first. Once the script is downloaded (or if it fails) the function associated with complete will be called. The function checks to make sure that the jQuery object is available and if it’s not Modernizr is used to load a local jQuery script. After all of that occurs a script named needs-jQuery.js will be loaded. Conclusion If you’re building applications that use some of the latest and greatest features available in HTML5 and CSS3 then Modernizr is an essential tool. By using it you can reduce the amount of custom code required to test for browser features and provide graceful fallbacks or even load shim/polyfill scripts for older browsers to help fill in missing functionality.

  Typical scenario: I'm trying to SSH thru a corporate HTTP proxy to a remote machine using corkscrew, and I get: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host Obviously, there's a lot of reasons this might be happening - the proxy might not allow this, the remote box might not be running sshd, etc. So, I tried to tunnel manually via telnet: $ telnet proxy.evilcorporation.com 82 Trying XX.XX.XX.XX...   I'm running into some problems while attempting to run PHP via FastCGI in Apache. I have the FastCGI module loaded, but get the following error when attempting to load a page: The requested URL /fastcgi/php54.fcgi/index.php was not found on this server. Somewhere, it seems that the script to be executed is appended to the executable without any spaces. Is this where the problem likely is?   Given the very specific nature of the subject (we're not talking about mailboxes, just the spool; we're not talking about other filesystems, just ext3; and so on...) and the maturity of the softwares involved (linux kernel, ext3fs, postfix) I'd think there should be a more or less agreed on set of best practices to filesystem related tuning. I'm trying to get a roundup of them: data=journal became the default in recent kernels (somewhere around 2.6.30 IIRC) so we should be ok with that Wietse Venema says atime must be on, but Postfix documentation recommendsnoatime while talking about the Incoming Queue. Does that mean that postfix needs atime on just for some queue directories and will benefit from noatime on the others? can we use noatime if we just don't use ETRN? filesystem can be mounted nodev,noexec,nosuid - no* won't prevent you from setting attributes (postfix uses exec attr) they just won't have any effect (we don't run anything from the spool) the fsync() issue cited by Wietse and/or the chattr -S are probably linked to sync/async options of ext3fs but I do not understand them enough. Mouting the filesystem with async option is equivalent to chattr -R -S the whole fs? Seems like it will increase performance, but will that pose a risk of "loss of mail after a system crash" or is it really "safe on /var/spool/postfix" ? would you tune anything else on postfix-2.6.x to work better on ext3 or do you leave defaults everywhere? is there a "best" linux I/O scheduler for this kind of workload (namely CFQ or deadline?) or that's something that will vary too much based on hardware configuration? would you tune anything else in the filesystem or in the kernel? anything else? • How to configure a shortcut for an SSH connection through a SSH tunnel

  My company production servers (FOO, BAR...) are located behind two gateway servers (A, B). In order to connect to server FOO, I have to open a ssh connection with server A or B with my username JOHNDOE, then from A (or B) I can access any production server opening a SSH connection with a standard username (let's call it WEBBY). So, each time I have to do something like: ssh johndoe@a ... ssh webby@foo ... # now I can work on the server As you can imagine, this is a hassle when I need to use scp or if I need to quickly open multiple connections. I have configured a ssh key and also I'm using .ssh/config for some shortcuts. I was wondering if I can create some kind of ssh configuration in order to type ssh foo and let SSH open/forward all the connections for me. Is it possible? • Multiple threads stuck on Tomcat behind Apache mod_proxy

Basically this brand new deployment of Tomcat 6.0.36 crawls down to a halt every couple minutes with many of the worker threads stuck as in the example snippet; only after a while the server gets "unstuck" for another couple minutes. • Dell 2970 - HP 1/8 G2 autoloader keeps falling off LSI 2032 SCSI chain

  I've a somewhat irritating problem with a Dell 2970 that has a HP 1/8 G2 autoloader (the Ultrium LTO 2 model) attached to the Dell/LSI 2032 non-RAID SCSI card. In essence, sometimes the autoloader/drive completely fails to appear on the SCSI chain (i.e.: there's neither a media changer or tape drive present within the device manager) and sometimes it appears but then subsequently disappears at a seemingly random (yet always inconvenient) time, resulting in backup failures. On most occasions, there are simply no errors logged in the system event log, but I did manage to capture a series of LSI_SCSI event ID 11 ("The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort0") errors followed by an event ID 129, ("Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued") error during testing. I've tried two different cables, both with the same effect – sometimes the autoloader appears (for a while), sometimes it's completely absent. There's only one terminator I've tried to use, but as I've since successfully tested the autoloader on multiple occasions (albeit via a Adaptec U160 card on a different machine), my gut feel is that the issue doesn't lie with the terminator, or indeed the autoloader itself. As such, I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas? It's most likely not relevant, but this is all under Windows SBS 2008, running Backup Exec 12.5 SBS edition (the Dell version), both fully patched. Addidtionally, the autoloader is running the latest firmware. It's been a while since I've dealt with anything SCSI, so all suggestions will be gratefully, gratefully received.

• fcgiwrap listening to a unix socket file: how to change file permissions

  I have a web server (nginx) and a CGI application (gitweb) that is ran with fcgiwrap to enable Fast CGI access to it. I want the Fast CGI protocol to take place over a unix socket file. To start the fcgiwrap daemon, I run: setuidgid git fcgiwrap -s "unix:$PWD/fastcgi.sock" (this is a daemontools daemon) The problem is that my web server runs as the user www-data and not the user git. And fcgiwrap creates the socket fastcgi.sock with user git, group git and read only fort the non owner. Thus, nginc with the user www-data can't access the socket. Apparently, fcgiwrap is not able to select permissions of unix socket files. And this is quite annoying. Moreover, if I manage to have the socket file exists before I run fcgiwrap (which is quite difficult given I did not find any shell command to create a socket file), it quits with the following error: Failed to bind: Address already in use The only solution I found is to start the server the following way: rm -f fastcgi.sock # Ensure that the socket doesn't already exists (sleep 5; chgrp www-data fastcgi.sock; chmod g+w fastcgi.sock) & exec setuidgid git fcgiwrap -s "unix:$PWD/fastcgi.sock" Which is far from the most elegant solution. Can you think of anything better ? Thanks

  We have IBM HTTP Servers (Based on Apache 2.0) and want to send the access logs to syslog. • Optimizing Disk I/O & RAID on Windows SQL Server 2005

  I've been monitoring our SQL server for a while, and have noticed that I/O hits 100% every so often using Task Manager and Perfmon. I have normally been able to correlate this spike with SUSPENDED processes in SQL Server Management when I execute "exec sp_who2". The RAID controller is controlled by LSI MegaRAID Storage Manager. We have the following setup: System Drive (Windows) on RAID 1 with two 280GB drives SQL is on a RAID 10 (2 mirroed drives of 280GB in two different spans) This is a database that is hammered during the day, but is pretty inactive at night. The DB size is currently about 13GB, and is used by approximately 200 (and growing) users a day. I have a couple of ideas I'm toying around with: Checking for Indexes & reindexing some tables Adding an additional RAID 1 (with 2 new, smaller, HDs) and moving the SQL's Log Data File (LDF) onto the new RAID. For #2, my question is this: Would we really be increasing disk performance (IO) by moving data off of the RAID 10 onto a RAID 1? RAID 10 obviously has better performance than RAID 1. Furthermore, SQL must write to the transaction logs before writing to the database. But on the flip side, we'll be reducing both the size of the disks as well as the amount of data written to the RAID 10, which is where all of the "meat" is - thereby increasing that RAID's performance for read requests. Is there any way to find out what our current limiting factor is? (The drives vs. the RAID Controller)? If the limiting factor is the drives, then maybe adding the additional RAID 1 makes sense. But if the limiting factor is the Controller itself, then I think we're approaching this thing wrong. Finally, are we just wasting our time? Should we instead be focusing our efforts towards #1 (reindexing tables, reducing network latency where possible, etc...)?

• Apache 2.2 + mod_fcgid + PHP 5.4: (104) Connection reset by peer

  On a Debian 6 VPS, I'm running PHP 5.4 via mod_fcgid on a couple of different virtual hosts, managed by Virtualmin GPL. At random, I get 500 Internal Server Errors; restarting Apache brings everything back to normality. • Unable to specify parameters to cvlc in a script

  I'm creating a script that issues a few curl commands in order to access a time-protected mms stream link, then set up a relay using cvlc (vlc's command line interface) for my own use on an unencumbered player. The curl aspect of this is working, as I can run as a browser and curl side by side and get the same access url. (It's time locked meaning the stream will work forever, but you have to connect quickly or the URL will time out.) The very end of the script prints the command I will run, which is then followed up by "exec $CMD". When I echo $CMD I get: cvlc --sout '#standard{access=http,mux=asf,dst=0.0.0.0:58194}' mms://[...] Manually Copy/Pasting this command in, verbatim, works perfectly fine, but as part of a script, the cvlc execution output says: [0x9743d0] main interface error: no suitable interface module [0x962120] main libvlc error: interface "globalhotkeys,none" initialization failed [0x9743d0] dummy interface: using the dummy interface module...
