  • Flash animations with Javascript?

    - by RichardBlizzard
Hi all, How does something like this work without Flash? http://www.dirtyphonebook.com/dashboard/425-205-1921 I right-clicked on it but there's no Flash menu. I love Flash because its stable and works. But is using some sort of Javascript hack for this kind of complex behavior actually a good idea?

  • Get a random subset from a set in F#

    - by Cay
I am trying to think of an elegant way of getting a random subset from a set in F# Any thoughts on this? Perhaps this would work: say we have a set of 2x elements and we need to pick a subset of y elements. Then if we could generate an x sized bit random number that contains exactly y 2n powers we effectively have a random mask with y holes in it. We could keep generating new random numbers until we get the first one satisfying this constraint but is there a better way?

  • Emulating Button Press Using Kinect/SimpleOpenNI + Processing Depth

    - by Alex Lu
I am using Kinect with Simple OpenNI and Processing, and I was trying to use the Z position of a hand to emulate a button press. So far when I try it using one hand it works really well, however, when I try to get it to work with a second hand, only one of the hands work. (I know it can be more efficient by moving everything except the fill out of the if statements, but I kept those in there just in case I want to change the sizes or something.) irz and ilz are the initial Z positions of the hands when they are first recognized by onCreateHands and rz and lz are the current Z positions. As of now, the code works fine with one hand, but the other hand will either stay pressed or unpressed. If i comment one of the sections out, it works fine as well. if (rz - irz > 0) { pushStyle(); fill(60); ellipse(rx, ry, 10, 10); popStyle(); rpressed = true; } else { pushStyle(); noFill(); ellipse(rx, ry, 10, 10); popStyle(); rpressed = false; } if (lz - ilz > 0) { pushStyle(); fill(60); ellipse(lx, ly, 10, 10); popStyle(); lpressed = true; } else { pushStyle(); noFill(); ellipse(lx, ly, 10, 10); popStyle(); lpressed = false; } I tried outputting the values of rz - irz and lz - ilz and the numbers range from small negative values to small positive values (around -8 to 8) for lz - ilz. But rz - irz outputs numbers from around 8-30 depending on each time I run it and is never consistent. Also, when I comment out the code for the lz-ilz, the values for rz-irz look just fine and it operates as intended. Is there a reason tracking both Z positions throws off one hand? And is there a way to get it to work? Thanks!

  • Singleton Pattern for C#

    - by cam
I need to store a bunch of variables that need to be accessed globally and I'm wondering if a singleton pattern would be applicable. From the examples I've seen, a singleton pattern is just a static class that can't be inherited. But the examples I've seen are overly complex for my needs. What would be the very simplest singleton class? Couldn't I just make a static, sealed class with some variables inside?

  • How to name variables on the fly in R?

    - by Maiasaura
Is it possible to create new variable names on the fly? I'd like to read data frames from a list into new variables with numbers at the end. Something like orca1, orca2, orca3... If I try something like paste("orca",i,sep="")=list_name[[i]] I get this error target of assignment expands to non-language object Is there another way around this?

  • How do I get the Math equation of Python Algorithm?

    - by Gabriel
ok so I am feeling a little stupid for not knowing this, but a coworker asked so I am asking here: I have written a python algorithm that solves his problem. given x 0 add all numbers together from 1 to x. def fac(x): if x > 0: return x + fac(x - 1) else: return 0 fac(10) 55 first what is this type of equation is this and what is the correct way to get this answer as it is clearly easier using some other method?

  • How do I add NSDecimalNumbers?

    - by Terry B
OK this may be the dumb question of the day, but supposing I have a class with : NSDecimalNumber *numOne = [NSDecimalNumber numberWithFloat:1.0]; NSDecimalNumber *numTwo = [NSDecimalNumber numberWithFloat:2.0]; NSDecimalNumber *numThree = [NSDecimalNumber numberWithFloat:3.0]; Why can't I have a function that adds those numbers: - (NSDecimalNumber *)addThem { return (self.numOne + self.numTwo + self.numThree); } I apologize in advance for being an idiot, and thanks!

  • Given a program's source code, what is a simple way to calculate the function points?

    - by user354822
For class, I was told to give a function point count for Mozilla Thunderbird, however I am absolutely stumped as to how to approach this. Some methods I saw online suggested analyzing the interface of the program itself, however they used very simple methods. Thunderbird has a very complex interface and has so many FPs, I'm not sure if I could do it by hand. Some help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

  • stored values within a custom function

    - by romunov
My program takes a data.frame and crunches the numbers. At one point, values from j-th column are multiplied by a predefined values that depends on the column name (species name, actually - it's en ecological index). So far, I've been providing these values via a second data.frame by matching column names. What would be an efficient way of integrating fixed variable values within a function? I would like my program to be as portable as possible, without the need for a second data.frame file.

  • Matrix in python

    - by Werner
Hi, I am very new to Python, I need to read numbers from a file and store them in a matrix like I would do it in fortran or C; for i for j data[i][j][0]=read(0) data[i][j][1]=read(1) data[i][j][2]=read(2) ... ... How can I do the same in Python? I read a bit but got confused with tuples and similar things If you could point me to a similar example it would be great thanks

  • What are the differences between these?

    - by Amit Ranjan
What are the differences between the two queries? SELECT CountryMaster.Id FROM Districts INNER JOIN CountryMaster ON Districts.CountryId = CountryMaster.Id SELECT CountryMaster.Id FROM CountryMaster INNER JOIN Districts ON Districts.CountryId = CountryMaster.Id Please mind the i) Table positions and second ii) On Fields As I know, output will be same. But I want to know, is there any drastic effects of the same if I neglect positions of tables and columns in complex queries or tables having tons of data like thousands and lakhs of rows...

  • Determine precision and scale of particular number in Python

    - by jrdioko
I have a variable in Python containing a floating point number (e.g. num = 24654.123), and I'd like to determine the number's precision and scale values (in the Oracle sense), so 123.45678 should give me (8,5), 12.76 should give me (4,2), etc. I was first thinking about using the string representation (via str or repr), but those fail for large numbers: >>> num = 1234567890.0987654321 >>> str(num) = 1234567890.1 >>> repr(num) = 1234567890.0987654

  • Selecting a Validation Framework - ASP.NET

    - by user102533
Which validation framework would you prefer for a webforms application. This would be for a rather large complex app. I would want to specify rulesets and business validation in a single place and integrate it both on the client and server side. I'd prefer jquery for client side. Anyone has any suggestions?

  • Generating db schema from c# class

    - by Niran
Hi, Is there any other method than nHibernate by wich we can generate db schema from class definition? My classes arn't that complex etc (few one-to-many relations). However I would like to just be able to save my objects in db and recreate schema if needed. I am stuck with .NET 2.0. I am not that particular about performance for this project, I am just lazy to create tables and write save/load code and deel with nHibernate xml. Thanks

  • Best FTP wrapper for iPhone

    - by jamone
I know you use the C based networking API to do FTP communication but I'd prefer to use something a little higher level. I've seen a few Objective-C based wrappers but I'm not sure what to use. I don't need that complex of FTP interaction. Its just the typical create/delete dirs, upload/download files... What do you recommend?

  • Grails/Hibernate max for string type

    - by bsreekanth
Hello, In my table I have a serial number field, which is represneted by string.. It has a prefix and some numbers follow. Eg: ABC1234, ABC2345 etc. How to retrieve the largest value (max equivalent of int type) from this column. In my case it would be ABC2345. I probably could retrieve all the data,, sort it and get the same, but that would be slow. thanks in advance..

  • Ruby Rails _without_ ActiveRecord

    - by devlearn
Hello, I'm looking for any pointers on how to write a rails web app without ActiveRecord. A doc or an example of a (not too complex) web app using storage backends other than a relational database would be greatly appreciated. It's not clear on what should be implemented in the model classes in order to make the rails app work without the ActiveRecord layer. Thanks,

  • What is the best method to convert to an Integer in JavaScript?

    - by Mathew Byrne
There are several different methods for converting floating point numbers to Integers in JavaScript. My question is what method gives the best performance, is most compatible, or is considered the best practice? Here are a few methods that I know of: var a = 2.5; window.parseInt(a); // 2 Math.floor(a); // 2 a | 0; // 2 I'm sure there are others out there. Suggestions?

  • Why does this MySQL Query hang?

    - by zzapper
SELECT * FROM tbl_order_head AS o INNER JOIN tbl_orders_log AS c ON o.PAYMENT_TRANSACTION_LOG_ID=c.TRANSACTION_ID WHERE o.VISUAL_ID = '77783'; tbl_order_head 67,000 (30 fields) records, tbl_orders_log 17000 (5 fields) records. I don't know if it would eventually return as I am running it on a live server and fear overloading. I am doing similar queries and much more complex queries successfully.

  • cpu floating operations cost

    - by wiso
I'm interesting in the time cost on a modern desktop cpu of some floating point operations in order to optimize a mathematical evaluation. In particular I'm interested on the comparison between complex operations like exp, log and simple operation like +, *, /. I tried to search for these information, but I can't find a source.
