  • R: getting a function name as a string

    - by HamiltonUlmer
    Say I have a bunch of functions, each with something likeMyFunction.1, etc. I want to pass these functions into another function, which prints out a small report. Ideally I'd like to be able to label sections of a report by which function is being used to generate the results. So are there any nice ways of getting the name of a predefined function as a string?

  • [jquery] e.which code for escape key

    - by Shishant
    I have two functions. When enter is pressed the functions runs correctly but when escape is pressed it doesn't. What's the correct number for the escape key? $(document).keypress(function(e) { if (e.which == 13) { $('.save').click(); } // enter (works as expected) if (e.which == 27) { $('.cancel').click(); } // esc (does not work) });

  • White-box testing in Javascript - how to deal with privacy?

    - by Max Shawabkeh
    I'm writing unit tests for a module in a small Javascript application. In order to keep the interface clean, some of the implementation details are closed over by an anonymous function (the usual JS pattern for privacy). However, while testing I need to access/mock/verify the private parts. Most of the tests I've written previously have been in Python, where there are no real private variables (members, identifiers, whatever you want to call them). One simply suggests privacy via a leading underscore for the users, and freely ignores it while testing the code. In statically typed OO languages I suppose one could make private members accessible to tests by converting them to be protected and subclassing the object to be tested. In Javascript, the latter doesn't apply, while the former seems like bad practice. I could always wall back to black box testing and simply check the final results. It's the simplest and cleanest approach, but unfortunately not really detailed enough for my needs. So, is there a standard way of keeping variables private while still retaining some backdoors for testing in Javascript?

  • Accesing server control from withing app_code class

    - by OverSeven
    My question is about how to acces a server control (listbox) that is located in default.aspx. I wish to acces this control in Functions.cs (this class is located in the App_Code folder). My page structures: - 1 masterpage with 1 content holder - Default.aspx (all the controls are within the content place holder) - Functions.cs (located in App_Code) Now when i try to fill up the listbox elements i get the error "object reference not set to an instance of an object." What i have tried to gain acces to this control: (this code is located in Functions.cs in App_Code). This is basicly showing some items in the listbox that are located in the xml file private static string file = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/App_Data/Questions.xml"); public static void ListItems() { XmlDocument XMLDoc = new XmlDocument(); XMLDoc.Load(file); XPathNavigator nav = XMLDoc.CreateNavigator(); XPathExpression expr; expr = nav.Compile("/root/file/naam"); XPathNodeIterator iterator = nav.Select(expr); //ATTEMPT to get acces to ServerControl(listbox) Page page = (Page)HttpContext.Current.Handler; ListBox test = (ListBox)page.FindControl("lbTest"); //control is called lbTest in Default.aspx test.Items.Clear(); while (iterator.MoveNext()) { test.Items.Add(iterator.Current.Value); } } Code from the default.apx file <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterFile.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="default.aspx.cs" Inherits="default" Debug="true" %> <%@ MasterType TypeName="Master" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphContent" Runat="Server" > <asp:MultiView ID="mvTest" runat="server" > <asp:View ID="vCollection" runat="server"> <asp:ListBox ID="lbTest" runat="server" CssClass="listbox" ></asp:ListBox> </asp:View> </asp:MultiView> </asp:Content> The masterfile itself just has 1 placeholder. Then i call upon the funcion ListItems in the Default.aspx.cs file protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Functions.ListItems(); } Regards.

  • Adding an additional click event to every element (JavaScript / jQuery)

    - by Gausie
    I'm developing a touchscreen application that, aside from everything else, records the amount of times the screen is used so that the user can be reminded to clean the screen after a predefined number of clicks. I've got the click functions written nicely, all I need now is make sure the function is called on a click. I imagine $('*').click(function() { //do something }); would accomplish my goal, but is that the best way? Also, would that overwrite other click functions assigned to the elements?

  • How to remove strings from a compiled binary (.so)

    - by Stéphane
    How do I remove strings from / obfuscate a compiled binary? The goal is to avoid having people read the names of the functions/methods inside. It is a dynamic library (.so) compiled from C++ code for Android with the NDK tools (includes GCC) I compile with -O3 and already use arm-eabi-gcc -g mylib.so to remove debugging symbols, but when I do strings mylib.so all the names of the functions/methods are still readable.

  • Ordering the results of a Hibernate Criteria query by using information of the child entities of the

    - by pkainulainen
    I have got two entities Person and Book. Only one instance of a specific book is stored to the system (When a book is added, application checks if that book is already found before adding a new row to the database). Relevant source code of the entities is can be found below: @Entity @Table(name="persons") @SequenceGenerator(name="id_sequence", sequenceName="hibernate_sequence") public class Person extends BaseModel { @Id @Column(name = "id") @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator = "id_sequence") private Long id = null; @ManyToMany(targetEntity=Book.class) @JoinTable(name="persons_books", joinColumns = @JoinColumn( name="person_id"), inverseJoinColumns = @JoinColumn( name="book_id")) private List<Book> ownedBooks = new ArrayList<Book>(); } @Entity @Table(name="books") @SequenceGenerator(name="id_sequence", sequenceName="hibernate_sequence") public class Book extends BaseModel { @Id @Column(name = "id") @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator = "id_sequence") private Long id = null; @Column(name="name") private String name = null; } My problem is that I want to find persons, which are owning some of the books owned by a specific persons. The returned list of persons should be ordered by using following logic: The person owning most of the same books should be at the first of the list, second person of the the list does not own as many books as the first person, but more than the third person. The code of the method performing this query is added below: @Override public List<Person> searchPersonsWithSimilarBooks(Long[] bookIds) { Criteria similarPersonCriteria = this.getSession().createCriteria(Person.class); similarPersonCriteria.add(Restrictions.in("ownedBooks.id", bookIds)); //How to set the ordering? similarPersonCriteria.addOrder(null); return similarPersonCriteria.list(); } My question is that can this be done by using Hibernate? And if so, how it can be done? I know I could implement a Comparator, but I would prefer using Hibernate to solve this problem.

  • Binding the selected value from a combobox to a member of a class.

    - by CM
    I have a combobox that is bound to a an instance of a class. I need to get the user's selection ID of the combobox and set a class property equal to it. For example, here is the class: public class robot { private string _ID; private string _name; private string _configFile; [XmlElement("hardware")] public hardware[] hardware; public string ID { get { return _ID; } set { _ID = value; } } public string name { get { return _name; } set { _name = value; } } public string configFile { get { return _configFile; } set { _configFile = value; } } } Now here is the code to bind the combobox to an instance of that class. This display's the name of each robot in the array in the combobox. private void SetupDevicesComboBox() { robot[] robot = CommConfig.robot; cmbDevices.DataSource = robot; cmbDevices.DisplayMember = "name"; cmbDevices.ValueMember = "ID"; } But now I can't seem to take what the user selects and use it. How do I use the "ID" of what the user select's from the combobox? Settings.selectedRobotID = cmbDevices.ValueMember; //This just generates "ID" regardless of what is selected. I also tried Settings.selectedRobotID = cmbDevices.SelectedItem.ToString(); //This just generates "CommConfig.robot" Thanks

  • lambda vs. operator.attrGetter('xxx') as sort key in Python

    - by Paul McGuire
    I am looking at some code that has a lot of sort calls using comparison functions, and it seems like it should be using key functions. If you were to change seq.sort(lambda x,y: cmp(x.xxx, y.xxx)), which is preferable: seq.sort(key=operator.attrgetter('xxx')) or: seq.sort(key=lambda a:a.xxx) I would also be interested in comments on the merits of making changes to existing code that works.

  • Please Describe Your Struggles with Minimizing Use of Global Variables

    - by MetaHyperBolic
    Most of the programs I write are relatively flowchartable processes, with a defined start and hoped-for end. The problems themselves can be complex but do not readily lean towards central use of objects and event-driven programming. Often, I am simply churning through great varied batches of text data to produce different text data. Only occasionally do I need to create a class: As an example, to track warnings, errors, and debugging message, I created a class (Problems) with one instantiation (myErr), which I believe to be an example of the Singleton design pattern. As a further factor, my colleagues are more old school (procedural) than I and are unacquainted with object-oriented programming, so I am loath to create things they could not puzzle through. And yet I hear, again and again, how even the Singleton design pattern is really an anti-pattern and ought to be avoided because Global Variables Are Bad. Minor functions need few arguments passed to them and have no need to know of configuration (unchanging) or program state (changing) -- I agree. However, the functions in the middle of the chain, which primarily control program flow, have a need for a large number of configuration variables and some program state variables. I believe passing a dozen or more arguments along to a function is a "solution," but hardly an attractive one. I could, of course, cram variables into a single hash/dict/associative array, but that seems like cheating. For instance, connecting to the Active Directory to make a new account, I need such configuration variables as an administrative username, password, a target OU, some default groups, a domain, etc. I would have to pass those arguments down through a variety of functions which would not even use them, merely shuffle them off down through a chain which would eventually lead to the function that actually needs them. I would at least declare the configuration variables to be constant, to protect them, but my language of choice these days (Python) provides no simple manner to do this, though recipes do exist as workarounds. Numerous Stack Overflow questions have hit on the why? of the badness and the requisite shunning, but do not often mention tips on living with this quasi-religious restriction. How have you resolved, or at least made peace with, the issue of global variables and program state? Where have you made compromises? What have your tricks been, aside from shoving around flocks of arguments to functions?

  • Unusual "static" method declaration

    - by Jason
    public class Card { public enum Rank { DEUCE, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN, JACK, QUEEN, KING, ACE } public enum Suit { CLUBS, DIAMONDS, HEARTS, SPADES } private final Rank rank; private final Suit suit; private Card(Rank rank, Suit suit) { this.rank = rank; this.suit = suit; } public Rank rank() { return rank; } public Suit suit() { return suit; } public String toString() { return rank + " of " + suit; } private static final List<Card> protoDeck = new ArrayList<Card>(); // Initialize prototype deck **static** { for (Suit suit : Suit.values()) for (Rank rank : Rank.values()) protoDeck.add(new Card(rank, suit)); } public static ArrayList<Card> newDeck() { return new ArrayList<Card>(protoDeck); // Return copy of prototype deck } } I have a quick question. The code block that starts right after the static keyword declaration, what type of method is that ? I haven't ever seen that before. If anyone could enlighten me, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Generic Singleton Fasade design pattern

    - by Paul
    Hi I try write singleton fasede pattern with generics. I have one problem, how can I call method from generic variable. Something like this: T1 t1 = new T1(); //call method from t1 t1.Method(); In method SingletonFasadeMethod I have compile error: Error 1 'T1' does not contain a definition for 'Method' and no extension method 'Method' accepting a first argument of type 'T1' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Any advace? Thank, I am beginner in C#. All code is here: namespace GenericSingletonFasade { public interface IMyInterface { string Method(); } internal class ClassA : IMyInterface { public string Method() { return " Calling MethodA "; } } internal class ClassB : IMyInterface { public string Method() { return " Calling MethodB "; } } internal class ClassC : IMyInterface { public string Method() { return "Calling MethodC"; } } internal class ClassD : IMyInterface { public string Method() { return "Calling MethodD"; } } public class SingletonFasade<T1,T2,T3> where T1 : class,new() where T2 : class,new() where T3 : class,new() { private static T1 t1; private static T2 t2; private static T3 t3; private SingletonFasade() { t1 = new T1(); t2 = new T2(); t3 = new T3(); } class SingletonCreator { static SingletonCreator() { } internal static readonly SingletonFasade<T1,T2,T3> uniqueInstace = new SingletonFasade<T1,T2,T3>(); } public static SingletonFasade<T1,T2,T3> UniqueInstace { get { return SingletonCreator.uniqueInstace; } } public string SingletonFasadeMethod() { //Problem is here return t1.Method() + t2.Method() + t3.Method(); } } }

  • How to create ActiveX DLL in Visual C++

    - by Eric Lavitsky
    Is there a tutorial/reference for creating an ActiveX DLL in Visual Studio 2008 C++ ? I've got a DLL built with the DLLRegisterServer/UnregisterServer, and it's registered, but I'm having a little trouble figuring out what name to use to reference it (from a vbscript) and how to make sure my functions are exported correctly. Do I have to put my functions in a special class? Thanks!

  • Global State and Singletons Dependency injection

    - by Manu
    this is a problem i face lot of times when i am designing a new app i'll use a sample problem to explain this think i am writing simple game.so i want to hold a list of players. i have few options.. 1.use a static field in some class private static ArrayList<Player> players = new ArrayList<Integer>(); public Player getPlayer(int i){ return players.get(i); } but this a global state 2.or i can use a singleton class PlayerList{ private PlayerList instance; private PlayerList(){...} public PlayerList getInstance() { if(instance==null){ ... } return instance; } } but this is bad because it's a singleton 3.Dependency injection class Game { private PlayerList playerList; public Game(PlayerList list) { this.list = list; } public PlayerList getPlayerList() { return playerList; } } this seems good but it's not, if any object outside Game need to look at PlayerList (which is the usual case) i have to use one of the above methods to make the Game class available globally. so I just add another layer to the problem. didn't actually solve anything. what is the optimum solution ? (currently i use Singleton approach)

  • Null reference but it's not?

    - by Clint Davis
    This is related to my previous question but it is a different problem. I have two classes: Server and Database. Public Class Server Private _name As String Public Property Name() As String Get Return _name End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _name = value End Set End Property Private _databases As List(Of Database) Public Property Databases() As List(Of Database) Get Return _databases End Get Set(ByVal value As List(Of Database)) _databases = value End Set End Property Public Sub LoadTables() Dim db As New Database(Me) db.Name = "test" Databases.Add(db) End Sub End Class Public Class Database Private _server As Server Private _name As String Public Property Name() As String Get Return _name End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _name = value End Set End Property Public Property Server() As Server Get Return _server End Get Set(ByVal value As Server) _server = value End Set End Property Public Sub New(ByVal ser As Server) Server = ser End Sub End Class Fairly simple. I use like this: Dim s As New Server s.Name = "Test" s.LoadTables() The problem is in the LoadTables in the Server class. When it hits Databases.Add(db) it gives me a NullReference error (Object reference not set). I don't understand how it is getting that, all the objects are set. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Is there an in memory database that supports the DATE function?

    - by Chris J
    Hi, I am doing some unit testing for a DAO that works with postgresql. Some of the SQL queries that my DAO uses involve the DATE function. Is there an in-memory database that supports functions similar to the ones that postgresql does? Currently I am looking for support for the DATE function however, I obviously can see myself using other functions in the future.

  • Is it possible to integrate user databases between Drupal and an ASP&SQL Server platform?

    - by hecatomber
    We have a game project designed on ASP&SQL Server, and we need to integrate it's user database with Drupal. This would be easier from Project to Drupal (since there is user_save and user_delete functions available globally by using drupal bootstrap) but I'm not sure if we can execute PHP functions on an ASP platform. Is there any documentation for this kind of problems? What do you suggest?

  • How to make paging start from 1 instead of 0 in ASP.NET MVC

    I used the paging example of the Nerddinner tutorial. But I also wanted to add page Numbers, somehting like that: <<< 1 2 3 4 5 6 The code below works if i start my paging from 0, but not from 1. How can I fix this ? Here is my code: PaginatedList.cs public class PaginatedList<T> : List<T> { public int PageIndex { get; private set; } public int PageSize { get; private set; } public int TotalCount { get; private set; } public int TotalPages { get; private set; } public PaginatedList(IQueryable<T> source, int pageIndex, int pageSize) { PageIndex = pageIndex; PageSize = pageSize; TotalCount = source.Count(); TotalPages = (int) Math.Ceiling(TotalCount / (double)PageSize); this.AddRange(source.Skip(PageIndex * PageSize).Take(PageSize)); } public bool HasPreviousPage { get { return (PageIndex > 0); } } public bool HasNextPage { get { return (PageIndex+1 < TotalPages); } } } UserController.cs public ActionResult List(int? page) { const int pageSize = 20; IUserRepository userRepository = new UserRepository(); IQueryable<User> listUsers = userRepository.GetAll(); PaginatedList<User> paginatedUsers = new PaginatedList<User>(listUsers, page ?? 0, pageSize); return View(paginatedUsers); } List.cshtml @if (Model.HasPreviousPage) { @Html.RouteLink(" Previous ", "PaginatedUsers", new { page = (Model.PageIndex - 1) }) } @for (int i = 1; i <= Model.TotalPages; i++) { @Html.RouteLink(@i.ToString(), "PaginatedUsers", new { page = (@i ) }) } @if (Model.HasNextPage) { @Html.RouteLink(" Next ", "PaginatedUsers", new { page = (Model.PageIndex + 1) }) }

  • "Multi-threading" w/ NSTimers in an iPhone app

    Say I have two NSTimers in my iPhone app: timer1 and timer2. timer1 calls function1 30 times per second and timer2 calls function2 30 times per second. Assume these two functions are reading and updating the same integer variables. Are there any "multi-threading" issues here? If not how does iPhone OS handle the execution of the two functions (in general)?
