• How to upload binary (audio) data from a Flash AS3 client to .NET server (WCF/REST/HTTP/?)?

  Simply stated: I'm trying to record audio in a browser, and get that data back up to the server. I originally tried to capture, encode and upload the audio using Silverlight, but because of the lack of suitable client-side encoding options, I'm now giving Flash a shot (Flash has baked-in support for encoding to Speex). I think I've figured out how to capture and encode the audio... But now what was easy in Silverlight, is the challenge in Flash. My server-side is .NET: MVC2- I'm open to receiving the audio in whatever manner is best- REST, WCF.. So that's my question: How could one upload binary data from Flash, to a .NET server-side endpoint. If the answer is WCF: then how would one setup the client-side proxies to communicate with the service? If the answer is REST or HTTP Post, then how would one construct this HTTP request and pass along the data? I've been reading up on AS3, but am new to Flash dev... Thanks for any help!

• Storyboard as timer in WPF

  Hi, I'm trying to do smooth animation in procedural code. For this (in Silverlight at least), it's recommended to use the Storyboard timer rather than a DispatcherTimer. So I use something like this: Storyboard _LoopTimer = new Storyboard(); public void StartAnimation() { _LoopTimer.Duration = TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(0); _LoopTimer.Completed += new EventHandler(MainLoop); _LoopTimer.Begin(); } void MainLoop(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Do animation stuff here // Continue storyboard timer _LoopTimer.Begin(); } And in Silverlight, this works fine. But in WPF, I only hit MainLoop() once. Setting RepeatBehaviour to Forever doesn't help, either. So what's the right way to do this in WPF with a Storyboard? Thanks very much.

• C# Async call garbage collection

  Hello. I am working on a Silverlight/WCF application and of course have numerous async calls throughout the Silverlight program. I was wondering on how is the best way to handle the creation of the client classes and subscribing. Specifically, if I subscribe to an event in a method, after it returns does it fall out of scope? internal MyClass { public void OnMyButtonClicked() { var wcfClient = new WcfClient(); wcfClient.SomeMethodFinished += OnMethodCompleted; wcfClient.SomeMethodAsync(); } private void OnMethodCompleted(object sender, EventArgs args) { //Do something with the result //After this method does the subscription to the event //fall out of scope for garbage collection? } } Will I run into problems if I call the function again and create another subscription? • Online webcam chat. Free server and easy-to-implement client?

  I have a client requesting that his users can use their webcams to talk to each other. From what I've understood the main thing to use for this is Flash. However as I have not written flash I would like to have something really easy to implement. Of course preferrably free (or trial). The idea of this is that everything but the chat alone is in .net. So the users will not use flash until they are actaully going to talk to each other. So there is no use for rooms here. I've been looking into silverlight some as well. But it seems like silverlight does not offer streaming between users..? I know this question has been asked many times here. But I could not find a suitable answer which is why I post a new question.

• Deserialize array values to .NET properties using DataContractJsonSerializer

  I'm working with the DataContractJsonSerializer in Silverlight 4 and would like to deserialize the following JSON: { "collectionname":"Books", "collectionitems": [ ["12345-67890",201, "Book One"], ["09876-54321",45, "Book Two"] ] } Into classes like the following: class BookCollection { public string collectionname { get; set; } public List<Book> collectionitems { get; set; } } class Book { public string Id { get; set; } public int NumberOfPages { get; set; } public string Title { get; set; } } What's the proper place to extend DataContractJsonSerializer to map the unnamed first array element in "collectionitems" to the Id property of the Book class, the second element to the NumberOfPages property and the final element to Title? I don't have control over the JSON generation in this instance and would like the solution to work with the Silverlight subset of .NET. It would be great if the solution could perform the reverse for serialization as well.

  It would seem there is precious little documentation on programming against a TFS 2010 instance. What bits I have found, have next to nothing in the case of documentation beyond barebones listing of client access classes and their members, most likely autogenerated from the code comments. As I'm interested in building a silverlight client against TFS, I will need access to a server side API. Ideally the silverlight app will talk to my server (mainly for work items) and my server will in turn talk to the TFS server for the goods. Where is the doumentation (if any) for this kind of TFS integration?

• Should I dive into ASP.NET MVC or start with ASP.NET Webforms?

  I plan to pick up Silverlight in the future. Possibility of going into Microsoft WPF. Currently learning Objective-C 2.0 w/ Cocoa. I already know Pros and Cons of ASP.NET MVC vs ASP.NET Webforms. What I want to know is what would be more "efficient" for me to learn given the circumstances above? By efficient I mean learning one design pattern once and then re-using it. Objective-C I believe uses MVC approach? What about Silverlight? WPF? So what do you think? Also as a side question is it true that ASP.NET Webforms is often used by freelancers/small companies and ASP.NET MVC in large enterprises?

• Windows Phone 7 Application + WCF + SSL + Username Authentication

  Hello, I have developed a test service with WCF, which I try to consume from a Windows Phone 7 Application, however when calling a method from the service I get a weird exception: There was no endpoint listening at https://server/Service.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. The WCF service uses a custom binding with UserNameOverTransport authentication and SSL. For the authorization I am using an implementation of the UserNamePasswordValidator. If I try to consume the service from a console or silverlight application (cross domain policy is enabled) - it works fine (authorization as well). And the most weird thing is that the ServiceReferences.ClientConfig file generated for the WP7 App is exactly the same as the config file generated for the silverlight application. I have no idea what is wrong with my service...

• Developing for Windows 6.5

  Hi All I have just got a new company mobile and would like to begin developing apps for the HTC HD2 Mobile Phone. However, when I downloaded Microsoft Windows Phone Developer Tools, it pretty much said right at the end of installation that "Setup could not install correctly", and I clicked on "more", and it said "Silverlight 4.0 could not install correctly". So, the fact that Windows Phone Dev Tools couldn't install completely was because of this Silverlight 4 that couldn't install! Has anyone had the same problems, if so, how did you resolve this issue (if you did)? And... Is there another way to develop applications for mobile phones running the Windows Operating System other than XNA and Windows Dev Tools? Even better... Could it be done simply using the current Visual Studio Express Edition I already have? Thanks All

  Hi EveryOne Beginner in Flex ...Even worse with item renderers... Have managed to add a Combobox to a datagrid using a itemEditor... I want to change the options in a combo box depending on the value selected by the user on a previous combo.. In the combo box i want to display a certain value (Model Name ) but for quering a table i'll pass the corresponding code of the model :(... sounds simple enough ..unfortunately not able to implement it I have found this problem on this site but the solution seems an overkill for my "small" problem..was hoping if anyone could guide me towards a more simpler solution...   The web browser I use is Firefox (currently in version 7 in Oneiric). According the Compatibility Check information the Moonlight extension is not compatible with FF7. And, actually, I cannot watch Silverlight streams in an acceptable way:the video gets stuck, the HD keeps buffering (I guess), so I have to close the window. Does anybody know if there is a way to fix this or a suitable alternative?
