• Concise SSE and MMX instruction reference with latencies and throughput

  I am trying to optimize some arithmetic by using the MMX and SSE instruction sets with inline assembly. However, I have been unable to find good references for the timings and usages of these enhanced instruction sets. Could you please help me find references that contain information about the throughput, latency, operands, and perhaps short descriptions of the instructions? • Storing And Using Microsoft User Account Credentials in MS SQL Srv 2008 Database

  I'm not exactly positive how to word this for the sake of the title so please forgive me. Also I can't seem to figure out how to even google this question, so I'm hoping that I can get a lead in the right direction. Part of my software(VB.NET App) requires the ability to access/read/write a shared network folder. I have an option for the user to specify any credentials that might be needed to access said folder. I want to store these credentials given in the MS SQL Database as part of the config(I have a table which contains configuration). My concern is that the password for the user account will be unencrpyted. Yet, if I encrypt the password the VB.NET App And/Or database will be unable to use the credentials for file i/o operations unless the Password is unencrypted before use. I'm fishing for suggestions on how to better handle this situation.

  All I need is to check, using python, if a string is a valid math expression or not. For simplicity let's say I just need + - * / operators (+ - as unary too) with numbers and nested parenthesis. I add also simple variable names for completeness. The API documentation for C# in this regard is quite poor, with many of the entries in msdn marked with "This language is not supported, or no code example is available.", I'm sorry I can't be more specific, I haven't done any programming using cryptographic api's.   I have got around 800 files of maximum 55KB-100KB each where the data is in this format Date/Time/Float1/Float2/Float3/Float4/Integer Date is in DD/MM/YYYY format and Time is in the format of HH:MM Here the date ranges from say 1st May to 1June and each day, the Time varies from 09:00 to 15:30. I want to run a program so that, for each file, it extracts the data pertaining to a particular given date and writes to a file. I will not face any problem in writing into directory operations. I am trying to get around, to form a to do a search and extract operation. I dont know, how to do it, would like to have some idea. Thanks Soham

• If you are forced to use an Anemic domain model, where do you put your business logic and calculated

  Our current O/RM tool does not really allow for rich domain models, so we are forced to utilize anemic (DTO) entities everywhere. This has worked fine, but I continue to struggle with where to put basic object-based business logic and calculated fields. Current layers: Presentation Service Repository Data/Entity Our repository layer has most of the basic fetch/validate/save logic, although the service layer does a lot of the more complex validation & saving (since save operations also do logging, checking of permissions, etc). • Iterating Oracle collections of objects with out exploding them

  I'm using Oracle object data types to represent a timespan or period. And I've got to do a bunch of operations that involve working with collections of periods. Iterating over collections in SQL is significantly faster than in PL/SQL. CREATE TYPE PERIOD AS OBJECT ( beginning DATE, ending DATE, ... some member functions...); CREATE TYPE PERIOD_TABLE AS TABLE OF PERIOD; -- sample usage SELECT <<period object>>.contains(period2) FROM TABLE(period_table1) t The problem is that the TABLE() function explodes the objects into scalar values, and I really need the objects instead. I could use the scalar values to recreate the objects but this would incur the overhead of re-instantiating the objects. And the period is designed to be subclassed so there would be additional difficulty trying to figure out what to initialize it as. Is there another way to do this that doesn't destroy my objects?

  In my early .Net programming days, I used string.Format() only for complex string concatenations, for example to compile strings as Problem with customer order 234 of date 2/2/2002 and payment id 55543. But now I use string.Format for almost every string concatenation I have to do, also simple ones such as prefixing a string with something. Console.WriteLine(string.Format("\t\t{0}", myString)); Is there any possible overhead on this? Maybe I should use the regular + operator to do these simple operations? What's your opinion on this?

  Hi guys, I'm looking for some guidance/books to read when it comes to creating a software requirement specification for a web application. For inspiration I have read some spec documents for desktop based applications. The documents I have read capture a systems functional requirements in use cases which tend to be rather data oriented with use cases centered around the various CRUD operations the application is intended to perform. I like this structure however I'm finding it rather difficult to marry it to what my web application needs to do, mostly reading data as opposed to manipulating it. I've had a go at writing some use cases however they all tend to boil down to "Search for item", "Change view of search results" or "User selects facet to refine search results". This doesn't sound quite right to me and makes me wonder if I'm going about this the right way. Are there planning differences between web based and desktop based applications?

• Is it possible to call a user-space callback function from kernel space in Linux (ioctl)?

  Is it possible to expand the ioctl interface in Linux so that the user-space application can send a pointer to a function to the kernel space driver? I'm in particular thinking of ways to handle the stream in user-controllable way but doing it in the kernel. Those operations could be attached to the kernel module but this would make development a lot easier as I wouldn't need to mess with the kernel during development. More specifically, this would be the process: Data is read by the driver to a buffer. Data is handled by these user-defined functions in place. Some more handling is done, possibly with some HW blocks. Data is used by a user-space application.

• Cross-reference between delphi records

  Let's say I have a record TQuaternion and a record TVector. Quaternions have some methods with TVector parameters. On the other hand, TVector supports some operations that have TQuaternion parameters. Knowing that Delphi (Win32) does not allow for forward record declarations, how do I solve this elegantly? Using classes is not really an option here, because I really want to use operator overloading for this rare case where it actually makes good sense. For now I simply moved these particular methods out of the records and into separate functions, the good old-fashioned way. Better suggestions are most welcome.

With the follow part of code I can know only the difference from the UTC time. In my case the difference is 2 hours because is active the DST ptime tLoc = second_clock::local_time(); ptime tUTC = second_clock::universal_time(); time_duration tDiff = tUTC - tLoc; local_time_zone = tDiff.hours(); I think that the boolean funcion has_dst() can help, right? • How to check if a variable exists in a FreeMarker template?

  Hi, I have a Freemarker template which contains a bunch of placeholders for which values are supplied when the template is processed. I want to conditionally include part of the template if the userName variable is supplied, something like: [#if_exists userName] Hi ${userName}, How are you? [/#if_exists] However, the FreeMarker manual seems to indicate that if_exists is deprecated, but I can't find another way to achieve this. Of course, I could simple providing an additional boolean variable isUserName and use that like this: [#if isUserName] Hi ${userName}, How are you?
