  • System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Debug() stopped working

    - by Andrew Miner
I'm working on a program which uses the System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break() method to allow the user to set a breakpoint from the command-line. This has worked fine for many weeks now. However, when I was working on fixing a unit test today, I tried to use the debug switch from the command-line, and it didn't work. Here's what I've tried: I've confirmed that the Debug() method is really being called (by putting a System.Console.WriteLine() after it) I've confirmed that the build is still in Debug I've done a clean build I've restarted Product Studio A quick Google search didn't reveal anything, and the API documentation for .Net doesn't mention anything about this function not performing correctly. So... any ideas?

  • Document Management System - Where to Store Files?

    - by Diego AC
Hey, stack! I'm on charge of building an ASP.NET MVC Document Management System. It have to be able to do basic document management tasks like adding, editing and searching entries and also perform versioning. Anyways, I'm targeting PDF, Office and many image formats as the file attached to each document entry in the database. My question is: What design guidelines do pros follow when building the storage mechanism? Do they store the document files in the file system? Database? How file uploading is handled? I used to upload the files to a temporal location while the user was editing the data and move it to permanent storage when the user confirmed the entry creation. Is this good? Any suggestions on improvement?

  • correct way to store an exception in a variable

    - by Evan Teran
I have an API which internally has some exceptions for error reporting. The basic structure is that it has a root exception object which inherits from std::exception, then it will throw some subclass of that. Since catching an exception thrown in one library and catching it in another can lead to undefined behavior (at least Qt complains about it and disallows it in many contexts). I would like to wrap the library calls in functions which will return a status code, and if an exception occurred, a copy of the exception object. What is the best way to store an exception (with it's polymorphic behavior) for later use? I believe that the c++0x futures API makes use of something like this. So what is the best approach? The best I can think of is to have a clone() method in each exception class which will return a pointer to an exception of the same type. But that's not very generic and doesn't deal with standard exceptions at all. Any thoughts?

  • How do I modify the -encoding argument to javac in the Android Ant build system

    - by Paul Butcher
Apologies if this is a stupid question - I'm an Android and Ant newbie. I have utf8 encoded source files that I need to compile with the Android Ant build system. By default, the encoding is set to ascii. I'd be very grateful for a pointer to whatever I need to do to let the build system know that my files are utf8. Incidentally, it works fine if I build in Eclipse, but I need to build from the command line. Thanks!

  • Virtual system drive is split between separate LUNs

    - by Tigran
My hardware VMWare guy told me that a Win2008R2 server I have has a D drive that is split between two separate LUNs. He could not tell me if that's a good thing or bad just that it's not standard practice for him. Would you please explain the benefits or drawbacks of this setup? Thanks EDIT Some additional info. What happened was I had D drive already allocated. Then I asked for more. They said there's no more space on whatever LUN my D drive is on so the option they gave me was that part of the D drive will be on one LUN and other part will be on another LUN. Hope that helps

  • creating a backup system with freenas

    - by masfenix
We are currently in the process of opening a new accounting firm in the new year (actually moving from our previous location). I am looking for a cheap/free solution to back up our files (small, text files couple of kb). I was impressed with FreeNas and Windows Backup but I found out that Windows Backup only saves for a maximum of 2 years. The work machines will be running Windows 8 or Windows 7. There can be many work machines however we have only one to start with (ie, think of it as just one employee). I have an old core 2 duo with 2 gigs of ram that I can convert to a server if need be. I want the syncing to be done through LAN since the data is confidential and should never touch the outside world. So ideally, I would like the following scenario: A skydrive/dropbox like service to sync my client files over work machines and a central server. The "server" part should store history of files (i don't know how this will be done since the file will have the same name?). This isn't really necessary, but I can see it become useful. I am not familiar with RAID, so does any software RAID solution exist? I will most likely be buying 2 hard drives.

  • Cloning a linux system from sdx to cciss

    - by churnd
I have an HP ML 310 server running CentOS Linux 5.5. I'm buying a RAID card (LSI 9260-8i) to set up a mirrored OS drive. Right now, the boot drive is set up with GRUB installed on the MBR of /dev/sda & has a 100MB /boot partition for /dev/sda1, then the rest is configured in LVM with a 20GB with a 20GB VG for the root partition & ~80GB VG for home. The new disk sizes will also be slightly larger as well. What is the best way to clone the boot drive to the new CCISS device?

I am writing a plugin, in which i define a new relation dynamically with in plugin. Sample code is given below module AttachDocumentsAs @as = nil def attach_documents_as(*attachment_as) attachment_as = attachment_as.to_a.flatten.compact.map(&:to_sym) @as = attachment_as.first class_inheritable_reader(@as) class_eval do has_many @as, :as => :attachable, :class_name=>"AttachDocuments::Models::AttachedDocument" accepts_nested_attributes_for @as end end end now in any model i used it as class Person < AtiveRecord::Base attach_documents_as :financial_documents end Now want to access want to access this attribute of the class in overloaded initialize method like this def initialize(*args) super(*args) "#{@as}".build end But it is not getting required attribute, can any one help me in it. I want to build this relation and set some initial values. Waiting for guidelines from all you guys.

  • What does it mean for an OS to "execute within user processes"? Do any modern OS's use that approach

    - by Chris Cooper
I have recently become interested in operating system, and a friend of mine lent me a book called Operating Systems: Internals and Design Principles (I have the third edition), published in 1998. It's been a very interesting book so far, but I have come to the part dealing with process control, and it's using UNIX System V as one of its examples of an operating system that executes within user processes. This concept has struck me as a little strange. First of all, does this mean that OS instructions and data are stored in each user of the processes? Probably not, because that would be an absurdly redundant scheme. But if not, then what does it mean to "execute within" a user process? Do any modern operating systems use this approach? It seems much more logical to have the operating system execute as its own process, or even independently of all processes, if you're short on memory. All the inter-accessiblilty of process data required for this layout seems to greatly complicate things. (But maybe that's just because I don't quite get the concept ;D) Here is what the book says: "Execution within User Processes: An alternative that is common with operation systems on smaller machines is to execute virtually all operating system software in the context of a user process. ... • iPhone UITableView populating variable rows sections from flat array

    - by Biko
I thought that would be very common and easy iPhone App. In the main app I connect to database, retrieve values from database (NSDate converted to NSString)n and put into single array. The in one of the views I populate UITableView with elements from the array. UITableView is grouped (sections). I step through array to discover number of sections (change section if new day). How do I retrieve correct element of array in cellForRowAtIndexPath? IndexPath.section and IndexPath.row seem useless as row starts count from zero for each section. If number of rows in each section was the same it would have been easy: [arryData objectAtIndex:(indexPath.row)+indexPath.section*[tblMatchesView numberOfRowsInSection:indexPath.section]]; But number of rows in each section varies... :-)

  • BES 5.0 and MAPI calls to exchange system

    - by nysingh
We have been using BES 4.1(5) for a while now and it has been a resource hog on exchange due to high number of MAPI calls. I have heard that BES 5.0 is even worse. the comparison i heard is that BES 4.1 is makes MAPI calls equal to 5 outlook clients per BB user and BES 5.0 makes MAPI calls equal to 10 outlook clients per BB user. can someone confirm if it is true? is BES 5.0 is really that bad in MAPI calls and for exchange performance. ? thanks

  • Inline function and global variable issue in Javascript

    - by Natim
I have some code here : http://bitbucket.org/natim/lo53_tp1/src/tip/part3/camions/medias/js/tracking.js That I use to draw some information about trucks direction. The problem come from a function defined in a for loop like this one : ... for(i = 0; i < nb_trucks; i++) { ... contentString = '<div id="content">'+ trucks[i]['name'] + '</div>'; current_window = new google.maps.InfoWindow({ content: contentString }); infosWindow.push(current_window); current_marker = new google.maps.Marker({ map: map, position: new google.maps.LatLng(trucks[i]['end']['lat'], trucks[i]['end']['lon']), draggable: false, title: trucks[i]['name'] }); markers.push(current_marker); google.maps.event.addListener(current_marker, 'click', function() { current_window.open(map, current_marker); }); } In this code, you can see the last block google.maps.event.addListener(current_marker, 'click', function() { current_window.open(map, current_marker); }); And my problem is that current_marker in the addListener parameters is different from the one inside the function. The current_window and the current_marker inside the function is overide at each loop turn. How can I get it right ? Thanks

  • Installing Ruby on Rails in Fresh Ubuntu 10.10 System

    - by Benedict Aluan
There are a lot of tutorials on how to install Ruby on Rails in Ubuntu 10.10. But even following the steps, there are still errors and dependencies that will encountered in order to successfully install RoR. The system varies on the developer's setup. To make it uniform, installation must be on a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 system. Is there a step-by-step guide on how to install RoR on a Fresh Ubuntu 10.10 machine? Like the first thing I need to do after starting the terminal.

  • adding numeric values of variable number of forms

    - by user306472
    I'm trying to use jquery to loop through a block of forms that contain numeric data and add it all up to be displayed in a form with id grand. I have the ability to dynamically add new forms, so the number of forms I'm looping through will change. Here's my jquery code I wrote that isn't working for whatever reason: $('#table').delegate('input#grand', 'focus', function(){ var grand = $(input.expend).map(function(){ return this.value; }); $(grand).each(function(){ var g = 0; g+= $(this); $('input#grand').val(g); }); });

  • Can't declare unused exception variable when using catch-all pattern

    - by b0x0rz
what is a best practice in cases such as this one: try { // do something } catch (SpecificException ex) { Response.Redirect("~/InformUserAboutAn/InternalException/"); } the warning i get is that ex is never used. however all i need here is to inform the user, so i don't have a need for it. do i just do: try { // do something } catch { Response.Redirect("~/InformUserAboutAn/InternalException/"); } somehow i don't like that, seems strange!!? any tips? best practices? what would be the way to handle this. thnx

  • How to disable or tune filesystem cache sharing for OpenVZ?

    - by gertvdijk
For OpenVZ, an example of container-based virtualization, it seems that host and all guests are sharing the filesystem cache. This sounds paradoxical when talking about virtualization, but this is actually a feature of OpenVZ. It makes sense too. Because only one kernel is running, it's possible to benefit from sharing the same pages of filesystem cache in memory. And while it sounds beneficial, I think a set up here actually suffers in performance from it. Here's why I think why: my machines aren't actually sharing any files on disk so I can't benefit from this feature in OpenVZ. Several OpenVZ machines are running MySQL with MyISAM tables. MyISAM relies on the system's filesystem cache for caching of data files, unlike InnoDB's buffer pool. Also some virtual machines are known to do heavy and large I/O operations on the same filesystem in the host. For example, when running cat *.MYD > /dev/null on some large database in one machine, I saw the filesystem cache lowering in another, monitored by htop. This essentially flushes all the useful filesystem cache in guests (FIFO) and so it flushes the MySQL caches in the guests. Now users are complaining that MySQL is very slow. And it is. Some simple SELECT queries take several seconds on times disk I/O is heavily used by other machines. So, simply put: Is there a way to avoid filesystem cache being wiped out by other virtual machines in container-based virtualization? Some thoughts: Choosing algorithm for flushing filesystem cache in the kernel. (possible? how?) Reserving a certain amount of pages for a single VM. (seems no option for filesystem cache type of pages that reading man vzctl) Will running MySQL on another filesystem get me anywhere? If not, I think my alternatives are: Use KVM for MySQL-MyISAM running VMs. KVM actually assigns memory to the VM and does not allow swapping out caches unless using a balloon driver. Move to InnoDB and tune the buffer pools, dirty pages, etc. This is now considered to be 'nice to have' on the long-term as not everyone responsible for administration of the system understands InnoDB. more suggestions welcome. System software: Proxmox (now 1.9, could be upgraded to 2.x). One big LV assigned for the VMs.
