  • Trying to get around this Webservice call from Android using AsycTask

    I am a fairly beginner in Android Development. I am developing an application that extensively relays on Webservice calls. First screen takes username and password and validates the user by calling the Webservice. If U/P is valid, then I need to fire up the 2nd activity. In that 2nd activity, I need to do 3 calls. But I haven't gotten to the 2nd part yet. In fact, I haven't completed the full coding yet. But I wanted to test if the app is working as far as I've come through. When calling webserivce, I am showing alert dialog. But the app is crashing somewhere. The LoginActivity shows up. When I enter U/P and press Login Button, it crashes.   • dpkg stuck downloading font files

    I have been reinstalling Ubuntu 12.04. The install from USB works fine, and I could update everything OK, but when I got to re-installing my application software I hit a snag. One of the packages I tried to re-install was ttf-mscorefonts-installer. dpkg stalled during this setup, downloading a font file (it had tried to download it all night). I stopped dpkg, and attempted to re-start downloading something else, but it would not let me. The commands I typed are as follows: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock This unlocks dpkg, but if I try to do something I get the following message (eg): bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo apt-get install synaptic E: dpgk was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem So, I did just that: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a whereupon it started the previously failed download all over again. That leaves two questions: 1) How could I have broken the loop without actually crashing out of dpkg? 2) How can I set up the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package in the future? Is this download really broken, or is it 'just' a bad Internet connection?

  • Can not connect to wireless on 12.04 with Intel WiFi Link 5100

    I am having problem in connecting to wifi. I have dual boot (Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04) on my Dell Studio 15. I upgraded to 12.04 quite some time ago (at least one month) from 11.10. Everything was working fine till yesterday. Since yesterday I can see the list of available Wifi connection but does not connect to any or if connects (after hours of trying) then disconnects after few minutes. My wifi interface is Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN. However the problem is on both Windows and Ubuntu.   • iscsitarget suddenly broken after upgrade of the 12.04 Hardware Stack

    After an upgrade to the latest Hardware Stack using Ubuntu 12.04, my iscsi service is not longer operational. The error from the service is such: FATAL: Module iscsi_trgt not found. I have learned that I might need to reinstall the package iscsitarget-dkms. this package builds a driver or something during installation, from source. During this build process, it reports and error, and now has also broke my package manager.   • Can't get rails app to start on heroku

    I'm trying to deploy a rails app to heroku, but keep getting the following error. I'd have thought that managing the postgres gems would be something heroku would handle. I've tried everything I can think of short of installing postgres on my local machine, which I'd need to do if I wanted to install the postgres gem. There's also no gem called activerecord-postgresql-adapter... I'm guessing this is the standard adapter that comes with rails?? Any thoughts on how to fix this?   • Draw Circle on the Map once the application gets loaded

    Background:- In my application what is happening currently- Whenever I am opening the application, In the top half of the android screen, it draws a Map and in the bottom half of the android screen it show's a list view. And then as soon as the location gets changed, it draw's a Circle with the current location as the center of the circle and show's an image at the current location(center of circle). Everything is working fine till here- Problem Statement:- What I want is when the user opens my application, circle should get draw immediately on the Google Map (this is currently not happening, it draw's circle only on the location changed), without waiting for the location to get changed and without any image on the center of circle and then if the location get's changed, take the current location as the center of circle and draw the circle with an image at the center of circle. Is there a file in android that I can read? There has to be a way to get this address since it's shown in the "Settings About Phone Status" of the phone.

    The thing is this, in Android 1.5 and 1.6 we had the Icon Design Guidelines. In this guide there are specifications for application icons. Every application should conform to this. However, in recent Android versions (2.0 and 2.1) icons have changed from the old to this new flat 2D style. Every icon in Nexus One has this style, so not even Google is conforming to the guideline. To see the differences between high and low density icons see this image and compare Evernote icon with the rest. I've been able to use different icons by using two directories with different icons: drawables-hdpi/icon.png and drawables/icon.png, BUT not every Android 2.x is going to be HDPI and not every 1.x Android device is going to be low pixel density. So the question is: Should I deploy different icons for different Android platform version within my apk file? and if I should, How do I do it?

Does it worth the effort? in term of android specifics and device fragmentation? Isn't it reasonable to write your own simple http response parser or take small existing library like google-spreadsheet-lib-android ? Thanks!     Hallo, I'm using my Android (Archos 43) only as an extended display in an industrial application. I just need a single programm to display data received and send user inputs by bluetooth. This little programm should start directly after booting and should disable (fade out) the android-buttons (search, home, menu and back). That's my plan. Here's my problem: I know, there are some applications which can fade out these search/home/menu/back-buttons (like DeskClock or some videoplayers). But how does it work? Just using android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen" only disables the titlebar, not the 4 android-buttons. Thanks, Dennis

    Hi there, I am thinking about converting my web apps into Android apps to reach the Android market. I do not have an Android phone. Can someone tell me how I can possibly get a Google developer phone (other than going to Google I/O, etc)? I realize this is somewhat of a ridiculous request but I have read blogs of people being enticed by google and offered a free phone to convert their web apps into Android apps. So I figure there is no harm in asking. Any insight would be helpful.
