Hi,
If someone asks me the below questions
What an Android Framework is?
What does it do?
How should I answer?
Also what is the role of API's such as Activity Manager, Location Manager etc in the Framework?
I’m doing an application that listens to the android.intent.action.SCREEN_OFF in a Service (if that matter) and then it is supposed to wait a few seconds and launch an action, I’ve tried a timer schedule method, thread and handler postDelay method but all of them seems to fail, they are never executed on a device, it seems like it’s being freezed/killed after phone is locked. It works on emulator and on device attached to USB, but never with device working on battery only, which actually is a main scenario.
Do you know any solutions to this?
hello I think the title says it all. I need to accomplish this result in android but it looks like there is no easy fix to my problem. Just to clarify a bit more: if I had to do it in html css I would write something like
<img src="Image URL" style="float:left; margin-right: 5px;" />
got it? ;)
thanks guyz
Android - What is the maximum file size that setMaxFileSize can be set to in respect to Androids mediarecorder? I know it's somewhere between 4147483650 and 5147483650. Why is there a limit in the first place?
I'm recording on to a SDCARD, detecting the size of the cards space before we run.
"ERROR/AuthorDriver(31): setParameter(max-filesize = 7270309850) failed with result -5"
"ERROR/AuthorDriver(31): Ln 903 handleSetParameters("max-filesize=7270309850") error"
"ERROR/AndroidRuntime(409): java.lang.RuntimeException: setMaxFileSize failed."
I have an app that uses the LocationManage functions which works well until the app is stopped or paused. The location listener function is still carrying on in the background. Relevant bits of code follow. When I click home or back the onstop() function is being triggered correctly.
package uk.cr.anchor;

import android.content.Context;
import android.location.Location;

public class main extends Activity {
/** Called when the activity is first created. */

private LocationListener mlocListener;

super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
LocationManager mlocManager = (LocationManager)getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE);
LocationListener mlocListener = new MyLocationListener();
mlocManager.requestLocationUpdates( LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 0, mlocListener);
}
@Override
protected void onStop(){
stoplistening();
super.onStop();
}
/* Class My Location Listener */
public class MyLocationListener implements LocationListener
{
@Override
public void onLocationChanged(Location loc)
{
loc.getLatitude();
loc.getLongitude();
etc etc etc
}
private void stoplistening() {
if (mlocManager != null) {
Toast.makeText( getApplicationContext(),
"kill",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT ).show();
mlocManager.removeUpdates(mlocListener);
}
else {
Toast.makeText( getApplicationContext(),
" not kill",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT ).show();
}
}
}
I always get the "not kill" message.
Can anyone help me!
I want to quit application in Android. Just put a "quit" button, which kills my app.
I know I shouldn't do this. I know that this is not the philosophy of the OS.
If you know how it can be done, pls share.
In the app, I have many opened activities, so "finish()" will not do the job.
Thank you for your information in advance.

Starter question: My "Hello World" attempt won't run, ("No compatible targets were found"), I think this is bacause I selected the latest version for my project (2.2), and the highest AVD version is 2.0.1. Does this make sense? Can I change my project version (haven't been able to find a way to do this), or do I have to start again? If the versions are not backwards compatible, what is the best version to use for the majority of Android devices out there?
Thanks
I have retrieved data and successfully shown it in text view.
What do i modify in my codes to make it look like a list view?
And also how do modify my listview programatically(adding size and padding)?
Here is my a part of my DBclass in selecting the items that I've displayed
getFAData() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
String [] columns = new String[]{Row_Name};
Cursor c = ourDB.query(db_Table, columns, null, null, null, null, null);
String res = "";
int iRow = c.getColumnIndex(Row_Name);
//int iDesc = c.getColumnIndex(Row_Desc);
//int iID = c.getColumnIndex(Row_id);
for (c.moveToFirst(); !c.isAfterLast(); c.moveToNext())
{
res = res + c.getString(iRow) + "\n";
}
return res;
}
And here is class file:
public class FirstAid extends Activity {
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.firstaid);
displayresult();
}
public void displayresult (){
TextView tvFa = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.tvFA);
tvFa.setMovementMethod(new ScrollingMovementMethod());
DbHelper tblFa = new DbHelper(this);
tblFa.open();
String result = tblFa.getFAData();
tblFa.close();
tvFa.setText(result);
}
}

Some Android programs trigger the "media volume" slider when the hardware volume up/down buttons are pressed. My application seems to set the ringer volume when the hardware buttons are pressed.
How would I enable the media volume slider?
I would hate for users to have to go into their settings to change the media volume when they use my application.
hi,
i am trying to improve the layout for my game. the problem is that while i can create a
good layout for one android phone, it doesn't work for another, ie the trackball for MyTouch
is on the right side (landscape mode), but for the MyCliq, the DPad is on the left side. is
there a way to programmatically set the layout based on which phone it is? thanks.
Hi all,
I am wondering how to add shadow on text in android?
I have the following code which is applied on a bitmap and I wanted to be shadowed...
paint.setColor(Color.BLACK);
paint.setTextSize(55);
paint.setFakeBoldText(false);
paint.setShadowLayer(1, 0, 0, Color.BLACK); //This only shadows my whole view...
Thankful for any tips!
Hi Forum
I'm trying to add a «loader-view» to my app which shows a spinner while doing stuff.
This works fine the first time, but it doesn't work a second time.
here's what I do:
I have a viewController for the spinner (spinnerViewController) and a nib-file which I made in IB (spinner.xib).
I load the nib in the viewDidLoad-event:
spinnerView = [[spinnerViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"spinner" bundle:nil];
[spinnerView retain];
spinnerView is declared in the .h-file (spinnerViewController *spinnerView;)
next, I show the spinner-view:
[self.view addSubview:spinnerView.view];
[self.view bringSubviewToFront:spinnerView.view];
which works fine...
And now the trouble starts. No matter what I do, I can't show the spinner view again.
I tried just hiding it (self.view sendSubViewToBack: spinnerView.view) which works for hiding, but when I try to bring it to the front again (self.view bringSubViewToFront: spinnerView.view) it doesn't work.
I also tried removing the spinner-view and add it again with no success (within the spinnerViewController: [self.view removeFromSuperview] and to show it again [self.view addSubview... )
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong??? ;)
Thanks for the help!
Do you know any books, articles, examples, screencasts that document how to develop an home screen widget on Android?
I just found these links:
widget design guidelines
Introducing home screen widgets and the AppWidget framework
I would like to develop a tiny home screen ticker and i'm searching for the proper way to code it.
Hello World!
Is their any way to apply a style resource to customize the Item Border in the Gallery Class with Android?
I'm trying to hide or change the color of the default Grey border but by the looks of things this isn't possible?
Any help or tips you can provide would be fantastic.
Appreciated,

How to get the dirty(changed) properties(any controls subclasses of view) amongst a number of properties on a layout. Does android has a dirty flag to mark if the layout has any field that has a changed content??
Hello, i need some help in how to start developing two android applications (on one phone) which communicate with each other.
1. Application A sends a string to application B
2. Application B receives the string for example "startClassOne", app B using a method starts classOne and gets the result. The result is send back (again as string!) to Application A.
3. Application A writes in console the received string from B.
