• Linux HA cluster w/Xen, Heartbeat, Pacemaker. domU does not failover to secondary node

  I am having the followig problem with an OenSuSE + Heartbeat + Pacemaker + Xen HA cluster: when the node a Xen domU is running on is "dead" the Xen domU running on it is not restarted on the second node. The cluster is setup with two nodes, each running OpenSuSE-11.3, Heartbeat 3.0, and Pacemaker 1.0 in CRM mode. For storage I am using a LUN on an iSCSI SAN device; the LUN is formatted with OCFS2 and managed with LVM. The Xen domU has two logical volumes; one for root and the other for swap. I am using IPMI cards for STONITH devices, and a dedicated ethernet link for heartbeat communications. It seems to want to try as an "xm list" will show it for a few seconds and if you "xm console xen-util" it will give a message like "copying /boot/kernel.gz from xvda1 to /var/lib/xen/tmp/kernel.a53gs for booting". However, it never gets past that, eventually gives up, and no longer appears in "xm list". Now, when node "stage" comes back online after being power cycled, it detects that "Xen-Util" isn't running, and starts it (on stage). I've tried starting "Xen-Util" on node "dhcp-166" without the cluster running, and it works fine. No problems. So, I know it works in that respect. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Can't get Monit to work

  I am trying to configure Monit on my local machine to get a taste at how it works, but I have some issues. What I am trying to do is to get any evidence that Monit is up and running correctly and is actually monitoring something. So my /etc/monit/monitrc looks like set daemon 60 set logfile /var/log/monit.log set idfile /var/lib/monit/id set statefile /var/lib/monit/state set eventqueue basedir /var/lib/monit/events slots 100 set httpd port 2812 and allow username:password check process apache2 with pidfile /usr/local/apache/logs/apache2.pid start program = "/etc/init.d/apache2 start" stop program = "/etc/init.d/apache2 stop" if failed port 6543 protocol http then exec "/usr/bin/touch /tmp/monit" If I understand correctly, since apache does not listen on port 6543 (it is just a random number) I should get an error, and as a consequence the file /tmp/monit should be created. So I start monit by sudo service monit start sudo monit monitor apache2 Unfortunately no such file is created. Instead the web console shows an error for apache - execution failed. The log says 'apache2' failed to start. What am I doing wrong? EDIT As suggested in the comments, I ran monit in verbose mode, by monit -vv monitor apache2 (the exact command suggested in the comments failed). • DIG command is hanging and not timing out as expected

  I ran into the following issue by accident when playing around with the DIG command and testing some domain names. Why does DIG hang and not timeout after 10 seconds when executing the following: dig +tries=1 +tries=1 +retry=1 +time=5 +trace google.us.com DIG hangs for about 30 seconds instead of timing out and then dies with the following error message: dig: couldn't get address for 'ns.reserved-domain.uk.com': no more Do I need to set another flag/option for DIG to have it timeout instead of hanging, or is this a bug? • Introducing MySQL for Excel

  As part of the new product initiatives of the MySQL on Windows group we released a tool that makes the task of getting data in and out of a MySQL Database very friendly and intuitive, and we paired it with one of the preferred applications for data analysis and manipulation in Windows platforms, MS Excel. Welcome to MySQL for Excel, an add-in that is installed and accessed from within the MS Excel’s Data tab offering a wizard-like interface arranged in an elegant yet simple way to help users browse MySQL Schemas, Tables, Views and Procedures and perform data operations against them using MS Excel as the vehicle to drive the data in and out MySQL Databases. One of the coolest features we had in mind designing MySQL for Excel is simplicity. MS Excel is simple and easy to work with, thus liked by many Windows users because they don’t have to be software gurus to use it.  We applied the same principle by targeting MySQL for Excel to any kind of user, so if you are already familiarized with Excel’s interface you will find yourself working with MySQL data in no time. MySQL for Excel is shipped within the MySQL Installer as one of the tools in the suite; if prerequisites are already installed (.NET Framework 4.0, Visual Studio Tools for Office 4.0 and of course MS Office), installing the add-in involves a very few clicks and no further setup to use it. Being an Excel Add-In there is no executable file involved after the installation, running MS Excel and opening the add-in from its Data tab is all that is required. MySQL for Excel automatically integrates with MySQL Workbench (if installed) to share the same connections to MySQL Server installations, that way connections are defined just once in either product saving time.  Opening the Add-In brings the Welcome Panel at the right side of the Excel main window from which connections to MySQL Servers are shown grouped by Local VS Remote connections; then users can open any of those connections by double-clicking it and entering the password of the used account.  Additionally a user can create a connection by clicking on the New Connection action label or edit connections through MySQL Workbench (if installed) by clicking on the Manage Connections action label. Once a connection is opened, the Schema Selection panel is shown, at the top of it the selected connection (connection name, hostname/IP and username). Just below, a list of schemas is displayed where User Schemas are grouped first followed by System Schemas; users can double-click any selected schema to go to the next panel or select a schema and clicking the Next > button. Users can alternatively click on the < Back button to go back to the Welcome Panel to close the current connection and open a new one; also by clicking the Create New Schema action label they can create an empty new schema. Once a schema is opened the DB Object Selection panel is shown, this is actually the place where the fun stuff happens; from here users are able to perform actions against MySQL Tables, Views and Procedures. • HAproxy roundrobin balancing does not appear to be distributing evently

  Hello, I know that with loaded servers, roundrobin in HAproxy (1.4.4) does not evenly distribute, but my servers are currently getting NO traffic (test setup), and roundrobin balancing does www1,www1,www1,www1,www1,...www2,www2,www2,...,www1... I'm verifying this by having the script being run on each server cat /etc/HOSTNAME (slackware). • Trying to configure HWIC-3G-HSPA

  I'm trying to configure a couple of Cisco 1941 routes. The are both identical routers. Each as a HWIC-1T (Smart Serial interface) and a HWIC-3G-HSPA 3G interface. These routers are to be sent to remote sites. We have connectivity to one of the sites but if remote site A gors down we lose connectivity to remote site B. The HWIC-1T is the primary WAN interface using frame relay joining the two remote sites We want the HWIC-3G-HSPA to be usable for direct connectivity from head office to remote site B, and also the HWIC-3G-HSPA is do be used for comms between the remote sites when the frame relay is down (happens quite a bit). I initialy tried to do dynamic routing using EIGRP however in my lab setup of laptop - 1941 - 1941 - laptop, I was unable to get end to end connectivity. I later settled on static routing and have got end to end connectivity but only over frame relay, not the HWIC-3G-HSPA. I've tried using kron to ping the local HWIC-3G-HSPA interface (cellular 0/1/0) every minute but that hasn't been successful. Manually pinging the IP assigned (by the telco) to ce0/1/0 does bring the interface up. Any ideas? Thanks

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 on an Acer Aspire 5742-7645 laptop with 4GB memory, Intel Core i3 processor, Intel HD Graphics, DVD drive, 802.1 b/g/n, and 500 GB HD. I connect to my router via a wireless connection. I have installed Virutalbox 4.1.12 from the Ubuntu Software Center and installed Guest additions 4.1.12 in the Windows 7 guest session. I have Windows XP and Windows 7 installed as guests in Virtual box The network settings are different for XP and 7 – see below. Network Settings XP guest = Adapter 1: PCnet-FAST III (NAT) - Network works perfectly and has worked well for several years. Network Settings Win 7 = Adapter 1: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (Bridged adapter, eth1) Promiscuous Mode = allow all Cable connected = checked When I originally installed Windows 7, I tried NAT and the guest network would not connect. Once I changed the setting to the above (Bridged) the Network worked perfectly. However, what I believe is after updates (not sure if it was an Ubuntu or Windows update) the guest network stopped working and I can not get it to connect.   Is there any possibility to change default wait for ACK timeout in TCP network on Windows 7 or Windows Server ? I'm using very slow network ( 1200 bps ) and want to tweak TCP. When using default parameters network stuck on multiple retransmissions . If I'm able to change the ACK timeout and tx window size I think that it would work.   Hi, I have a problem using SocketAsyncEventArgs model with .net sockets. Everything works great until the moment that the server wishes to close a client connection. I use following code for this: try { socket.Shutdown(SocketShutdown.Both); } catch { } // throws if client process has already closed finally { socket.Close(); } socket = null; Each connection is using two SocketAsyncEventArgs (one for send and one for receive) and after closing the connection they are returned to a pool from which they can be later reused. And here the problem starts, because when another connection is established and receive args are reused from the pool we get an exception: System.InvalidOperationException: "An asynchronous socket operation is already in progress using this SocketAsyncEventArgs instance."; at System.Net.Sockets.SocketAsyncEventArgs.StartOperationCommon(Socket socket) at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.ReceiveAsync(SocketAsyncEventArgs e) I've done some debugging and it appears that the connection closing code from the beginning of the question does not cancel Socket.ReceiveAsync operation that is in progress when the connection is closed. I've tried many combinations of Shutdown, Disconnect and Linger options for the socket but nothing worked. Any suggestions? Thanks

• Why is OracleDataAdapter.Fill() Very Slow?

  I am using a pretty complex query to retrieve some data out of one of our billing databases. I'm running in to an issue where the query seems to complete fairly quickly when executed with SQL Developer, but does not seem to ever finish when using the OracleDataAdapter.Fill() method. I'm only trying to read about 1000 rows, and the query completes in SQL Developer in about 20 seconds. What could be causing such drastic differences in performance? I have tons of other queries that run quickly using the same function. When I look at the connection through the debugger, the method shows up as GET even though I set it to POST; the collection of request properties shows up as null. If I print the values out, the method shows up as POST, but the request parameters collection is still empty. I would love to be able to print the request and understand what's going on, but I could not figure out how to print the content of an output buffer. Any ideas? Thanks! ES

• C# Windows Mobile 6.5 and TCP connections

  Hello, I am developing an application which makes a TCP connection out to our company server to pull down data and provide real-time data updates when the information changes. I am using the .NET Compact Framework for the development and the .NET Framework 3.5 (soon to update to 4.0) for the server-side TCP connection. I want to leave the connection open after the initial data is sent to the device from the server in order to keep the server in contact with the device should data updates need to be sent to the device. We already considered doing a WCF or connect/disconnect type of connection but we believe the overhead on the server for creating the session, transmitting and session cleanup would be unacceptable. (each device would be connecting every 60-90 seconds.) So, leaving the connection open is the best option. What I need to know is, when I leave the TCP connection open, do I need to manually transmit a heartbeat (and if so how do I do that with the .NET Compact Framework) or will the framework/stack do that for me? We have code that allows up to reconnect if the device gets disconnected (from network switching or a voice call) so that is handled. Thanks,

• jquery hover not working properly other than IE6

  Hi All, We developed navigation bar using jQuery 1.4.2. Functionality is to show submneus for different menu items when user hovers on it. It is working perfectly in IE6 but we see some weird problems in other browsers. In Firefox, when the page gets loaded, it works fine but when we hit f5, the submenu wont appear on hover. To get submenu we need to click on any other menu item. In Chrome, its the same to add on, some time even we click on any menu item, and hover submenu wont show up. In Safari, nothing shows up most of the times, but on clicking 5-6 menu items, submenu is shown.When we see loading text in safari it shows the submenu. but on every click the loading text wont appear.. We are very much confused..is it the browser behavior/code/jquery??   Hi, I'm using a TcpClient in one of my Compact Framework 2.0 applications. I want to receive some information from a TCP server. As the Compact Framework does not support the timeout mechanisms of the "large" framework, I'm trying to implement my own timeout-thing. HOW?? } I'd like to call Set for the IAsyncResult.AsyncWaitHandle, but it doesn't have such a method and I don't know which implementation to cast it to. How do I set the wait handle? Or is it automatically set by calling EndRead? The documentation suggests that I'd have to call Set myself... Thanks for any help!

  I have a rails application running on SSL. I also have setup Piwik (for analytics) and it is running non-secure i.e. HTTP. • Searching for flexible way to specify conenction string used by APS.NET membership

  Hi, I develop an asp.net web application and I use ASP.NET membership provider. The application uses the membership schema and all required objects inside main application database However, during development I have to switch to various databases, for different development and testing scenarios. For this I have an external connection strings section file and also an external appsettings section, which allow me to not change main web.config but switch the db easily, by changing setting only in appsettings section. My files are as below: <connectionStrings configSource="connections.config"> </connectionStrings> <appSettings file="local.config"> .... ConnectionStrings looks as usual: <connectionStrings> <add name="MyDB1" connectionString="..." ... /> <add name="MyDB2" connectionString="..." ... /> .... </connectionStrings> And local.config as below <appSettings> <add key="ConnectionString" value="MyDB2" /> My code takes into account to use this connection string But membership settings in web.config contains the connection string name directly into the setting, like <add name="MembershipProvider" connectionStringName="MyDB2" ...> .... <add name="RoleProvider" connectionStringName="MyDB2" ...> Because of this, every time I have to edit them too to use the new db. Is there any way to config membership provider to use an appsetting to select db connection for membership db? Or to "redirect" it to read connection setting from somewhere else? Or at least to have this in some external file (like local.config) Maybe is some easy way to wrap asp.net membership provider intio my own provider which will just read connection string from where I want and pass it to original membership provider, and then just delegate the whole membership functionality to asp.net membership provider. • Web serivce time out errors in delphi

  Hi, I have a client application that makes SOAP requests. I have set the timeout to 20 minutes. However, sometimes I see the timeout error occurring after 10 seconds. I have the following in code: RIO.HTTPWebNode.ReceiveTimeout := 1200000 Do I need to set the ConnectTimeout and SendTimeOut? Currently they are set to the default values of 0. What difference would setting these make? I am using Delphi 2007. Looking further at the error message I see I get "The operation timed out....". So should I be setting my ReceiveTimeOut to zero since I really do not want any timeout at all?
