    Hi guys, I was trying use/test video tag of HTML-5. Here is the code <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <body> <video src="./Pilot.avi" controls="controls"> your browser does not support the video tag </video> </body> </html> Pilot.avi is stored in the same same directory as this HTML page. The problem is, I am seeing the controls being displayed but can't play the video. I tried with, 1) Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13 2) Google Chrome 8.0.552.224 What could be the problem?   • Access a content control in C# when using Master Pages

    Good day everyone, I am building a page in ASP.NET, and using Master Pages in the process. I have a Content Place Holder name "cphBody" in my Master Page, which will contain the body of each Page for which that Master Page is the Master Page. In the ASP.NET Web page, I have a Content tag (referencing "cphBody") which also contains some controls (buttons, Infragistics controls, etc.), and I want to access these controls in the CodeBehind file. However, I can't do that directly (this.myControl ...), since they are nested in the Content tag. I found a workaround with the FindControl method. ContentPlaceHolder contentPlaceHolder = (ContentPlaceHolder) Master.FindControl("cphBody"); ControlType myControl = (ControlType) contentPlaceHolder.FindControl("ControlName"); That works just fine. However, I am suspecting that it's not a very good design. Do you guys know a more elegant way to do so? Thank you! Guillaume Gervais.

  • Embedded Linux: Memory Fragmentation

    In many embedded systems, memory fragmentation is a concern. Particularly, for software that runs for long periods of time (months, years, etc...). For many projects, the solution is to simply not use dynamic memory allocation such as malloc/free and new/delete. Global memory is used whenever possible and memory pools for types that are frequently allocated and deallocated are good strategies to avoid dynamic memory management use. In Embedded Linux how is this addressed? I see many libraries use dynamic memory. Is there mechanism that the OS uses to prevent memory fragmentation? Does it clean up the heap periodically? Or should one avoid using these libraries in an embedded environment?

The problem is that using the splitter is very sluggish. i would expect that a modern 2 GHz computer can re-display the form as fast as a human can push the mouse around. But that's definitely not the case, and it takes about 200-300 ms before the form is fully re-adjusted. The form has about 100 visual controls on it, no code, or custom controls. How do i go about tracing who's the cause of the sluggishness?

  • How can I convert arbitrary strings to CLS-Compliant names?

    Does anyone know of an algorithm (or external library) that I could call to convert an arbitrary string (i.e. outside my control) to be CLS compliant? I am generating a dynamic RDLC (Client Report Definition) for an ASP.Net Report Viewer control and some of the field names need to be based on strings entered by the user. Unfortunately I have little control over the entry of the field names by the client (through a 3rd party CMS). But I am quite flexible around substitutions required to create the compliant string. I have a reactive hack algorithm for now along the lines of: public static string FormatForDynamicRdlc(this string s) { //We need to change this string to be CLS compliant. return s.Replace(Environment.NewLine, string.Empty) .Replace("\t", string.Empty) .Replace(",", string.Empty) .Replace("-", "_") .Replace(" ", "_"); } But I would love something more comprehensive.   • Space bar and arrow keys on Radio buttons trigger TypeError: Error #1009

    I've just discovered a bug in my app, it looks like a Flash player bug, i would like to know if anyone has found a workaround or something. I've some radio buttons groups in my app. If I press the arrow keys while holding the spacebar pressed, it ends up triggering TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fl.controls::LabelButton/drawIcon() at fl.controls::LabelButton/draw() at fl.controls::RadioButton/draw() at fl.core::UIComponent/callLaterDispatcher() If found this thread that describes my same situation. Do you think there's any workaround for this? Is it really a flash bug?

  • Programming issue while applying text to the third party control.

    Hello I have used some third party controls in my windows application. There is a snippet which is being used in our code which re-initializes all the .text property of all the controls on the form. Everything works fine except for a control. This control is similar to the Windows Panel except for it has a dropdown appearance. This control has .Caption property instead of .Text property associated to it. This causes the problem whenever i use such codes foreach (Control oControl in this.Controls) { if (oControl is DropDownPanel) { { oControl.Text = rm_ResourceManager.GetString(oControl.Name + ".Text"); } } } The text is not set here for the DropDownPanel control in the above method. Since .Text is not available for DropDownPanel control. I cannot do the following either .. ((DropDownPanel)oControl).Caption = rm_ResourceManager.GetString(oControl.Name + ".Text"); Cos it shall throw exception if i try to cast oControl with that of DropDownPanel Any ideas how can i overcome such a condition.   • Dynamic Multiple Choice (Like a Wizard) - How would you design it? (e.g. Schema, AI model, etc.)

    This question can probably be broken up into multiple questions, but here goes... In essence, I'd like to allow users to type in what they would like to do and provide a wizard-like interface to ask for information which is missing to complete a requested query. For example, let's say a user types: "What is the weather like in Springfield?" We recognize the user is interested in weather, but it could be Springfield, Il or Springfield in another state. A follow-up question would be: What Springfield did you want weather for? 1 - Springfield, Il 2 - Springfield, Wi You can probably think of a million examples where a request is missing key data or its ambiguous. Make the assumption the gist of what the user wants can be understood, but there are missing pieces of data required to complete the request. Perhaps you can take it as far back as asking what the user wants to do and "leading" them to a query. This is not AI in the sense of taking any input and truly understanding it. I'm not referring to having some way to hold a conversation with a user. It's about inferring what a user wants, checking to see if there is an applicable service to be provided, identifying the inputs needed and overlaying that on top of what's missing from the request, then asking the user for the remaining information. That's it! :-) How would you want to store the information about services? How would you go about determining what was missing from the input data? My thoughts: Use regex expressions to identify clear pieces of information. These will be matched to the parameters of a service. Figure out which parameters do not have matching data and look up the associated question for those parameters. Ask those questions and capture answers. Re-run the service passing in the newly captured data. These would be more free-form questions. For multiple choice, identify the ambiguity and search for potential matches ranked in order of likelihood (add in user history/preferences to help decide). Provide the top 3 as choices.     I am developing a ff extension which displays a list of elements from an array (dynamic) in the sidebar. The array is dynamic and needs to be constructed in a function everytime the sidebar is opened (or any other event handler). Later, i will need to implement link functionality on parts of the string. What is the best way to go about this? I have created an empty sidebar and just know the label element as of now. menu, and menuitem dont work. What other elements can i use to display text in a good way which supports dynamic contruction. Is there some good tutorial/sample extension which i can see and learn?

    I have developed a web application (ASP.NET Web Forms). One of my customer has very restrictive policies. When he accesses the web page, IE shows this message: Your security settings do not allow Web sites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly. As far as I know, we don't use ActiveX controls on our page. I did a "View Souce" and did not find anything suspect. How can I find what part of my page refers to an ActiveX. The application uses jQuery and a few jQuery plug-ins. Is there a tool/add-in like "Fire Bug" that I can use to list the ActiveX controls referred on a page?

  • Should I always call Page.IsValid in ASP.NET WebForms C#?

    I know to never trust user input, since undesirable input could be compromise the application's integrity in some way, be it accidental or intentional; however, is there a case for calling Page.IsValid even when no validation controls are on the page (again, I know its bad practice to be trusting user input by omitting validation)? Does Page.IsValid perform any other kinds of validation? I looked at MSDN, and the docs seem to suggest that Page.IsValid is only effective if there are validation controls on the page, or the Page.Validate method has been called. A friend of mine suggested that I always check Page.IsValid in the button click handlers every time even if there are no validation controls or explicit Page.Validate calls. Thanks for any advice!

  • How do you use Exslt.dyn (especially the 'evaluate' method) in Umbraco?

    I am trying to execute the string contained in an XSL variable. Umbraco has hooks for several Exslt pieces, but it seems the Exslt.dyn (Exslt.dynamic) is not one of them. How do you add it in? Acceptable methods (in order of preference: Writing your own XSLT extension (possibly using existing Umbraco code for Exslt Dynamic). Uploading the XSL from http://www.exslt.org/dyn/functions/evaluate/index.html into Umbraco. Modifying the Umbraco source to add it (possibly using existing Umbraco code for Exslt Dynamic). The reason I mention Exslt Dyanmic is because some Umbraco XSLT sources show a reference that I am assuming existing in some versions of Umbraco. I cannot find it in the source code, however.   • BindableAttribute, Combobox, Selectedvalue property - WinForms

    I am deriving from combobox (WinForms) and am providing a new implementation for the Selectedvalue property. It works fine as is, but any change to the selectedvalue property is not updating other controls bound to the same "binding context" to change their values accordingly. I did try adding the BindableAttribute(true) to the property, but still it does nottrigger the change in value to the other linked controls. The control's DataBindings.add(...) is all set up. And other controls are also bound to the same data filed on the same datasource. Any ideas what i am doing wrong.

  • How hard is it for a .NET programmer to learn Objective C and Cocoa?

    Hi, I'm trying to build a dual platform application for a company of my own I'm trying to start at night. I have the .NET version done, but have not finished the UI part. I'm thinking of buying some 3rd party controls. If I buy these controls, however, they clearly will only work in my Windows version. I'm wondering if I should try to do the UI in GTK# and use Mono with CocoaSharp or just build the thing in MS technology and teach myself the Mac side? I'm just really unfamiliar with the Mac world and am wondering how much of a learning curve there might be. I've thought perhaps of rewriting my core logic in Ruby or Python. This why I could use the .NET version with .NET controls and presumably hook the same code up on the Mac. It's an educational app targeted at consumers. As such, it shouldn't require a lot of technical sophistication to install.

    I have a Table and a Button. Table's cells have controls LiteralControl and CheckBox. I check some fields and then by click on button i remove these fields from database. On event Page_PreRender i clear Table and then fill it with updated data. Then it shows me Table with updated data. But if i check fields of table again and do a click on a button it wont do what i expected. In Page_Load event i see that it dont save properties of controls. Checked CheckBox controls appears as unchecked.

  • Architecting a generic search result web control

    In a project I'm currently working for we've stumbled upon the need for several kinds of search results presentation controls. The search result are similar, but not identical. For example, in the "office search" result we might want to present the office name and location, while in the "document search" could contain document name, author and publishing date. These fields should be sortable. My current strategy is to employ the Factory pattern and do something like this: ISearchResult officeResults = SearchResultFactory.CreateOfficeSearchResults(data); ISearchResult documentResults = SearchResultFactory.CreateDocumentSearchResults(data); The problem is: I don't know how to implement the markup code. Should I just do Controls.Add(officeResults); in the containing page? Or is there some ASPX trickery to create generic web controls? Or maybe I'm overthinking this and just should create five classes? ;)

  • DropDownList selectedValue not changing display

    I have a list of controls that I change based on an event. The controls are contained within a table that is created dynamically. I traverse through a set of controls and if it is a RadioButtonList or a DropDownList I do the following: CType(cntrl, ListControl).SelectedValue = val The radio buttons set just fine but the dropdown list doesn't reset. Can anyone tell me why. The initial table is created on the first Page Load and stored in memory. It's values are changed during the eventhandling and reposted to a MasterPage's content holder.
