• Silverlight 4 Multithread

  I'm trying to update my Silverlight 4 UI approx every 1/2 second with new data. I've hooked into a WCF service using net.tcp binding and issuing callbacks from the server. To make sure I get the data from the service as quickly as possible I've started up my proxy on a backround worker inside of my Silverlight App. My question is, how do I get the results from the callback and update the ObservableCollection that is bound to a datagird? I've tried a number of different ways and keep getting the dreaded cross-thread error.

• Sharepoint connected web parts question

  I have one web part (the provider) which displays insurance claims in a gridview. When user clicks on one this value(case number) is passed via IWebPartField interface to another web part(consumer) which displays detailed info about the claim. So far so good. I can select different claims in the provider and the details show up in the consumer just fine. The moment I add a TextBox to the consumer, the consumer no longer recognizes the case number passed. I need the user to be able to enter a value in the textbox and click a button to update that claim info. I can debug and attach to process and it looks like it is getting the case in the callback function, etc, but when it is setting parameters for the stored proc in CreateChildControls, it is null. Comment out the TextBox and it works fine. Any clues as to what is going on? Brand new to Sharepoint web parts...any help appreciated! thanks, PhilJ

• How can I run a function anytime anything is animated with jQuery?

  Hi - I have some jQuery animations in my code to slide divs up and down in response to some mouse clicks and other logic. This is all working just peachy, however in IE 6 some of the smaller icon images on the page don't slide along with the rest of the div for some strange reason. They kind of stay put then flicker into the new position and I've chalked this up to an IE6 'feature'. Considering that I have to support IE6, I wanted to just hide the icons anytime an animation started, and show them again when the queue was empty. I couldn't find a reference to any kind of events or hooks into the queue itself and I'd rather not add the hide code, then the show code to every animation as a callback. Thanks if you can help- b

Also, "mods" doesn't describe the win-key, only Ctrl, Shift and Alt. Having such limited access to keyboard input is a serious impediment for real application development. Am I doing anything wrong here or is just freeglut just crippled? Is GLUT crippled in general?

• Jumbo Frames on DIR-655

  I am trying to set up jumbo frames on my gigabit home LAN but no luck so far. My setup is: D-Link DIR-655 router, HW Revision A3, Firmware 1.21 EU Synology DS107+, Firmware 3.0-1337 Laptop w/ Win7 x64, external PCIx NIC managed by "Generic Marvel Yukon 88E8053 based Ethernet Controller" The router is supposed to support jumbo frames but doesn't feature any relevant setting. I set the Jumbo Packet value to 9000 on both the NIC and the Synobox but it doesn't work, ping -f -l 8972 says "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set". Is there any other setting I overlooked, the DIR-655 doesn't actually support jumbo frames, or what else could be the problem?

• Which PSU should one chose? The biggest is the best?

  I'm fully aware of PSU's "Active PFC" and that they won't consume the written W all the time. (Makes sense). But now I'm before a PSU replacement (Guys: NEVER buy a Chieftec. Seriously.) The question is: If one can get a bigger one (in my case 750W and 650W) ... should that person go for the bigger one ? (The difference in price is not much). No, I don't think I'll soon use all that much. (Please help (if you want of course) to make the question more generic if the question is really not OK in this form. I've been wondering about this for a time already. In my case it would be XFX Black Edition Silver 750W and 650W) (Basically about "which one" I would go with XFX/Antec/something which comes with industry qualified parts. Like Duracell but in a PSU. :) But the performance is a different thing.)

• jQuery: how to handle empty return from getJSON

  Alright so I have a php script which gets results from a DB, and to get those results I'm using a jQuery script to pull the results via getJSON. It works perfectly but now I want to do something if the php script returns no results (empty). I tried: $.getJSON('path/to/script'), {parameter:parameter}, function(data){ if (data) { alert('Result'); } else { alert('Empty); } }); But it's no good. I've tried different things like if (data.length) but still nothing. I've noticed that if there is no returned data the callback will never fire at all. So if that's the case, how do I handle a empty return?

• Several devices in Device Manager have Code 3 error

  One of our users' machines (Dell Optiplex 380 running Windows 7 32-bit) is having a weird driver issue. A bunch of devices have Error Code 3: The driver for this device might be corrupted, or your system may be running low on memory or other resources. (Code 3) The system isn't low on memory (only 1GB in use out of whatever the max for 32-bit is.) Here's a screenshot of the affected devices: I tried reinstalling the chipset and audio drivers to no avail. I have no idea what prompted it, and I'm not sure how the basic Windows Generic PnP Monitor driver could even be corrupted. What might be causing this error?

• Returning the html from .ajax call

  I'm getting undefined for some reason when I try to return the html via the callback function: function getDataFromUrl(urlWithContent) { // jQuery async request $.ajax( { url: urlWithContent, dataType: "html", success: function(data) { return $('.result').html(data); }, error: function(e) { alert('Error: ' + e); } }); } I know I'm getting data back, I see it in firebug in the response and also when I alert out the data, I see the entire page content come up in the alert box. When I call my function, I am doing the following: var divContent = getDataFromUrl(dialogDiv.attr("href")); if(divContent) dialogDiv.innerHTML = divContent; when I alert out the divContent (before the if statement) I'm getting undefined. Maybe I'm just going about this wrong on how I'm returning back the data? I also tried just return data; same thing, I get undefined after the call to this method when set to my variable.

From the docs, I thought it was a list of tuples, which I thought would make it accessible via lists:keyfind, but I've had no luck. So far, all the examples I've found only show how to print everything with io_lib but not how to access the values by key... • How to disable ^C from being echoed on Linux on Ctrl-C

  When I press Ctrl-C in any pseudoterminal (xterm, gnome-terminal, rxvt, text console and SSH) in Karmic Koala, the string ^C gets echoed to the terminal in Ubuntu Karmic Koala. This hasn't happened in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope. I'd like to get rid of the extra ^C. Example: $ cat foo foo ^C $ _ I got the above by typing C, A, T, Enter, F, O, O, Enter, Ctrl-C. I want to get rid of the ^C, and get this for the same keypresses: $ cat foo foo $ _ I tried setting stty -echoctl, which created a single-character HT (or a box with Unicode 0003 in it) instead of the ^C.   The architecture of the application is straight forward. There is a web application which maintain account holder data. This data is processed and the status of account holders is updated based on number of business rules. This process is initiated using a button on the page and is a long running process (say 15 mins). A component is developed to do this data processing which internally calls stored procedures. Most of the business rules are kept in stored procedure. To handle timeouts the processing is done asynchornously(using Thread Pool or custom thread or Async Callback Delegates). The entire process run under a transaction. I would like to know your view on what happens to the transaction if the app pool is recycled or the worker process is terminated forcefully?

• Tests for hard drive health

  I have a 5-year old hard drive (bought new at the time), but it was sitting in my closet for 5 years, unused. I have just started using it, and seems to be getting a whirring sound (rather distinct from the other noises like fans etc.). I ran a few diagnostics tests, like Seagate's SeaTools, and the SMART test, and a few generic tests and all passed. Should I be concerned? Is there any other test that I should run? It's an internal IDE WD 5400RPM drive. Being used for a desktop, which is itself pretty high-end (AMD Phenom II X6 1100T, AMD Radeon GPU etc.), but would be used rather occasionally to begin with (avg. 1-2 hrs. per day). Thanks for any pointers.

  specifically WM6x, winCE5x Now my current understanding from trawling the msdn etal is that the IMAPIAdviseSink::OnNotify callback can be made from any old thread; from (ce)mapi or perhaps even from a third-party service provider. Under WM6x, i cannot seem to coax an in-thread response by invoking HrThisThreadAdviseSink, since while this function is declared in mapiutil.h, a definition appears not to exist (in cemapi.lib or wherever??) ~But i notice that all the OnNotify callbacks i receive derive from windows messages that i am receiving on my thread (=looks to me like an in-thread implementation in any case under cemapi)... So, can anyone confirm that this is infact always the case -or am i just getting lucky right now? ah, i should add that my advise source is IMAPISession::Advise erm i should also say that i might have cross-posted this on the msdn forum -but they're mostly numptys over there,,

• mobile browsers' can't login to my site

• JQuery UI Tabs widget error handling

  When an ajax request fails, the JQuery UI Tabs widget stops responding and the "Loading..." spinner remains on the tab that caused the error. I can get the ajax callback to give me some sort of alert message like so: $('#localtabs > ul').tabs({ ajaxOptions: { success: tabLoadSuccessCallback, error: tabLoadFailureCallback} }); function tabLoadSuccessCallback(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert("Yay!");} function tabLoadFailureCallback(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert("Could not get search results.");} But what I'd really like is to be able to display a message within the panel, cancel the spinner, and disable the tab that caused the problem while leaving the rest of the tabs operational. • Can't Redirect the root of my Domain

  My Issue: I can access:http://exampledomain.com/any/thing/I/want/2type But I can Not access:http://exampledomain.com or http://www.exampledomain.com -it gets redirected to the Default vhost, which is a generic construction page. I run on a plesk set-up: and originally "exampledomain" was its own Plesk Vhost domain. I run everything in drupal, so I want to just consolidate it onto a multisite, usually this is as simple as setting the correct folder structure in drupal, and just simply making the new domain an Alias of the bigger Vhost. I checked /etc/httpd/conf.d/zz010_psa_httpd.conf to see if there were any remnants of the old settings. Any suggestions, thanks in advance?

• Using CouchDB to serve HTML.

  I'm trying to use CouchDB with HTML/standalone REST architecture. That is, no other app server other than CouchDB and ajax style javascript calling CouchDB. It looks like cross scripting is a problem. I was using Cloudkit/Tokyo Cabinet before and it seems like the needed callback function was screwing it up in the URL. Now I'm trying CouchDB and getting the same problem. Here are my questions: 1) Are these problems because the REST/JSON store like CouchDB or CloudKit is running on a different port from my web page? They're both run locally and called from "localhost". 2) Should I let CouchDB host my page and serve the HTML? 3) How do I do this? The documentation didnt seem so clear... Thanks, Alex

• Difficulty creating classes and arrays of those classes C#

  I'm trying to implement a Discrete Fourier Transformation algorithm for a project I'm doing in school. But creating a class is seeming to be difficult(which it shouldn't be). I'm using Visual Studio 2012. Basically I need a class called Complex to store the two values I get from a DFT; The real portion and the imaginary portion. This is what I have so far for that: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Threading.Tasks; namespace SoundEditor_V3 { public class Complex { public double real; public double im; public Complex() { real = 0; im = 0; } } } The problem is that it doesn't recognize the constructor as a constructor, now I'm just learning C#, but I looked it up online and this is how it's supposed to look apparently. It recognizes my constructor as a method. Why is that? Am I creating the class wrong? It's doing the same thing for my Fourier class as well. So each time I try to create a Fourier object and then use it's method...there is no such thing. example, I do this: Fourier fou = new Fourier(); fou.DFT(s, N, amp, 0); and it tells me fou is a 'field' but is used like a 'type' why is it saying that? • Why is JSON outputting out of order?

  I'm am trying to get a list of weather information for 8 locations. I'm using a weather API that accepts longitude and latitude and spits back json output with the weather info for that location. I feed the coords in order 0-7 but when json processes the data it comes back in a seemingly random order. I assume it's because some process faster than others and json is outputing what it gets back as it gets it.
