  • jQuery :contains(unicode_characters)

    - by SeanJA
    I have an element like this: <span class="tool_tip" title="The full title">The ful&#8230;</span> This seems to work: jQuery('span:contains(…)'); But this does not: jQuery('span:contains(&#8230;)'); I am pretty sure that it would be bad to use the first one because if someone else saves the file, or the browser decides to get the file in a different character set for some reason things will not work. There has to be a way to properly select this span, right?

  • why does $.ajax(..) not work for me?

    - by dr jerry
    I'm running jquery from a file. And I'm trying to load a svg file from my localhost to populate a svg canvas. However that does not work as expected. What I do from filesystem: $.ajax({ url: url , timeout: 1000, complete: function(xml) { alert('complete'); }, success: function(xml, status, xreq) { alert('success'); }, error: function() { alert('error'); } }); the url reads: http://localhost/image.svg, when I read this url directly from an addressbar from the browser, the pages remains white but the pagesource displays the source of image.svg. Debugging the $.ajax code above, reveals that the success: method is hit, but xml response remains empty. Any help is greatly appreciated. regards, jeroen.

  • jQuery sibling selector?

    - by Brett
    Hi, I have a table which I'm trying to do a pricing list, that auto-computes the tax component.. I'm getting the value from price_1, applying a math cal, and saving it to tax_1. I could read the number of the end of the id, but hopefully there is a cleaner way with jQuery. E.g. I would have a lot of fields like.. price_1 price_2 price_3 tax_1 tax_2 tax_3 etc... I can use the following code to call jQuery on change of a price, and get the value of that price. How do I update the tax field next to it? should I use a sibling selector or something?? $('#pricing').delegate("input", "change", function(){ $(this).val() /* the value of the price */; })

  • How do I prevent form from redirecting after submission?

    - by Noor
    I have searched the site and I've found various solutions, most of them suggesting using return false; Problem is that I'm using this piece of code to submit the form: $(function() { $("#snd").click(function() { var dendar = "http://" + $("#inpt").val() + ":" + $("#pwd").val() + "secretsite.lol/something.xml"; $("#formen").attr("action", dendar); $("#formen").submit(); alert(dendar); return false; }); }); The alert is just there to let me know that the form has been submitted.. Thanks guys!

  • [JS/jQuery] Using argument (this) passed via element eventhandler

    - by Kel
    Hey guys, I want to use the argument I pass (this) in a JS function and treat it as an jQuery variable. Example: <script> function useMe(obj){ $(obj).val(); ... ... ... } </script> <select id="selectid" onChange="useMe(this)"> <option>......</option> </select> Is there a possibility to treat the passed argument as a jQuery element? Btw. I need to do it this way, because the select-element isn't created on load. The select element will be created later asynchronously. So, this won't work: $("select").each(function (i){ var select_id = $(this).attr("id"); $(this).change(function(e){ because it doesn't exist yet. Thanks for your help.

    - by Ryan Max
    Hello. I have the following jQuery script that makes an orange transparent hover effect cover the image when it's rolled over. How do I make it so this script will animate in and out (with a fade?) $(document).ready(function() { $('#gallery a').bind('mouseover', function(){ $(this).parent('li').css({position:'relative'}); var img = $(this).children('img'); $('<div />').text(' ').css({ 'height': img.height(), 'width': img.width(), 'background-color': 'orange', 'position': 'absolute', 'top': 0, 'left': 0, 'opacity': 0.5 }).bind('mouseout', function(){ $(this).remove(); }).insertAfter(this); }); });

  • Javascript form validation events

    - by user307922
    Hi All, I am making a small form for a php app and had a question regarding javascript validation. What is the best event to run the javascript validation on the input value? Is it the "focusout" event? I used "focusout" to originally but it creates problems when the user hits enter while they are still focused on any particular field in the form. Should I run the js validation when the user clicks submit? Just looking for some advice. Thanks! Chuck

  • jquery live() method on custom functions

    - by user271619
    I have a custom event handler, or I suppose some call it a custom jquery function. My problem is I'm trying to apply the live() method to it. But I'm not too successful. Here's a simple custom jquery function: $.fn.myFunction = function() { return $(this).addClass('changed'); } And here I use it: $('.changePlease').myFunction(); Ok, simple enough. But how do I apply the live() method to it?? I actually have no idea if that's even possible. But I do use live() for other things, like: $(".changePlease").live("click",function(){ alert("hello"); }); Any thoughts on this?

    Hello, I have a jQuery code to allow users to login using a lightbox (http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/) and immediately start downloading files, without being redirected or having the page reloaded. • Count Upwards for ID jQuery

    - by Tom
    Hi Guys, I have the following HTML structure <div id="test-1-yay"></div> ... bunch of code ... <div id="test-2-yay"></div> ... bunch of code ... <div id="test-3-yay"></div> I was wondering how I can use jQuery to basically identify each of these "id's" and then apply some jQuery to them ? I'm new to this so little unsure ? Something like if $('#test-1-yay' || '#test-2-yay' || '#test-3-yay') { do stuff to all ID's } But the prob is I want this to continue as it could go to #test-201-yay, #test-202-yay etc ? Thx

  • Function not recognized from jQuery

    - by coffeeaddict
    I've got a .js file that has this function in it: function showDialog(divID) { var dialogDiv = $(divID); dialogDiv.dialog ( { bgiframe: true, modal: true, autoOpen: false, show: 'blind' } ) And in my page this: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("input.invokeDialog").click.showDialog("#testDialog"); }); </script> I'm trying to figure out why it doesn't recognize my showDialog function. Is it not possible to reference it with the dot as I am doing? Do I need a jQuery specific function or syntax for it to know that it's a jQuery function or is there no such thing?

  • Using jQuery to gather all text nodes from a wrapped set, separated by spaces

    - by Bungle
    I'm looking for a way to gather all of the text in a jQuery wrapped set, but I need to create spaces between sibling nodes that have no text nodes between them. For example, consider this HTML: <div> <ul> <li>List item #1.</li><li>List item #2.</li><li>List item #3.</li> </ul> </div> If I simply use jQuery's text() method to gather the text content of the <div>, like such: var $div = $('div'), text = $div.text().trim(); alert(text); that produces the following text: List item #1.List item #2.List item #3. because there is no whitespace between each <li> element. What I'm actually looking for is this (note the single space between each sentence): List item #1. List item #3. List item #3. This suggest to me that I need to traverse the DOM nodes in the wrapped set, appending the text for each to a string, followed by a space. I tried the following code: var $div = $('div'), text = ''; $div.find('*').each(function() { text += $(this).text().trim() + ' '; }); alert(text); but this produced the following text: This is list item #1.This is list item #2.This is list item #3. This is list item #1. This is list item #2. This is list item #3. I assume this is because I'm iterating through every descendant of <div> and appending the text, so I'm getting the text nodes within both <ul> and each of its <li> children, leading to duplicated text. I think I could probably find/write a plain JavaScript function to recursively walk the DOM of the wrapped set, gathering and appending text nodes - but is there a simpler way to do this using jQuery? Cross-browser consistency is very important. Thanks for any help!

  • webservice doesn't get called by jQuery

    - by aspdotnetuser
    Hi, I want to call a webservice using jQuery.ajax() but the webervice doesn't get called. - If I change the url: to reference a .ashz file it gets called but not .asmx? Here's the code I'm using: jQuery.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/services/CheckUsername.asmx/CheckUsername", // this doesn't get called //url: "/services/CheckUsername.ashx/ProcessRequest", this gets called data: '{ "context": "' + "username" + '"}', contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8', dataType: 'json', success: function (msg) { alert("Result: " + msg); }, error: function (XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert("Error: " + textStatus) } The .ashz file gets called but a parsererror is retuned because it's returning http context - how can I modify this to get a string return type from a webservice? Thanks,

  • Override tablesorter CSS

    - by user1712810
    I am using jquery tablesorter. When the page loads, I have a code to highlight the background color of certain rows in the table. Since tablesorter is used I guess it overrides the css and not allowing to change the background color of the rows. This is the code. This function automatically loads when the page gets loaded. I removed table-sorter to the table and tried this. It works. I have to get it to work with the table-sorter applied. $(document).ready(function() { var row, len, results; row = 0; results = []; while (row < len) { if ($("#tab1 #example_"+row+"chkbx").is(":checked")) { $("#tab1 #example_" + row).css("background-color", "#c6b79f"); } row++; } return results; });

  • CSS3: Top align of list item

    - by Irishgirl
    CSS3: Top align of list item. See image as below. How can I align a blue arrow to align on top of a senetence of each list. I'm using jQuery 1.7 and it is for iOS (iPhone). ul.lists{ padding:0 0 15px 0;} ul.lists li{ line-height:18px; border-bottom:1px #bfeaf0 solid; padding:6px 12px; background:url(../images/arrow_cyan.svg) no-repeat left; } /* no-repeat left top; */ I've tried to include a js as offset $("li:last").offset({ top: -15 }); but it did not work properly because I don't know how to move all blue arrows to align each list even the sentence might might run into more than one line.

  • Cached Jquery selector behavior that I do not understand

    - by gaoshan88
    Given the following code why am I getting different values for a and b? I would have thought they would return the same thing: (function() { var a = $('#foo'); var Test = function(){ console.log(a); //outputs 'jQuery()' var b = $('#foo'); console.log(b); //outputs 'jQuery(select#foo)' which is what I want }; })(); This question stems from me trying to stick frequently used selectors into vars. Originally I was doing it in each method (like I did with var b in the above example) but then I found I needed to use the selectors in multiple methods so I moved the assignment out to be available (or so I thought) to all of the methods in that anonymous function. As you can see, it does not work. Why is this?

  • How to use JQuery to remove dynamic content?

    - by ed.talmadge
    I have an html page that is generated by a CMS. I cannot modify the page, but can add JavaScript. Each time the page loads, a JavaScript function (that I cannot modify) dynamically inserts a paragraph onto the page. How can I use JQuery to .remove() that paragraph whenever it is loaded? For example, when the page first loads, it look like this (blank): <div></div> Then, a few seconds later, a JavaScript function (that I have no control over) adds a paragraph to the page. The page then looks like this: <div><p id="foo">bar</p></div> How can I use JQuery to remove the paragraph with id=foo each time it is dynamically loaded onto the page?

  • posting php code using jquery .html()

    - by Emmanuel Imwene
    simple query,but it's giving me a headache, i need a division to be updated with a changed session variable each time a user clicks on a name,i figured i'd use .html() using jquery to update the division, i don't know if you can do this, but here goes: $("#inner").html('<?php session_start(); if(file_exists($_SESSION['full'])||file_exists($_SESSION['str'])){ if(file_exists($_SESSION['full'])) { $full=$_SESSION['full']; $handlle = fopen($full, "r"); $contents = fread($handlle, filesize($full)); fclose($handlle); echo $contents; echo '<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.8.0.min (1).js">'; echo '</script>'; echo '<script type="text/javascript">'; echo 'function loadLog(){ var oldscrollHeight = $("#inner").attr("scrollHeight") - 20; $.ajax({ url: \''.$_SESSION['full'].'\', cache: false, success: function(html){ $("#inner").html(html); //Insert chat log into the #chatbox div var newscrollHeight = $("#inner").attr("scrollHeight") - 20; if(newscrollHeight > oldscrollHeight){ $("#inner").animate({ scrollTop: newscrollHeight }, \'normal\'); //Autoscroll to bottom of div } }, }); } setInterval (loadLog, 2500);'; echo '</script>'; } else { $str=$_SESSION['str']; if(file_exists($str)) { $handle = fopen($str, 'r'); $contents = fread($handle, filesize($str)); fclose($handle); echo $contents; $full=$_SESSION['full']; $handlle = fopen($full, "r"); $contents = fread($handlle, filesize($full)); fclose($handlle); echo $contents; echo '<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.8.0.min (1).js">'; echo '</script>'; echo '<script type="text/javascript">'; echo 'function loadLog(){ var oldscrollHeight = $("#inner").attr("scrollHeight") - 20; $.ajax({ url: \''.$_SESSION['str'].'\', cache: false, success: function(html){ $("#inner").html(html); //Insert chat log into the #chatbox div var newscrollHeight = $("#inner").attr("scrollHeight") - 20; if(newscrollHeight > oldscrollHeight){ $("#inner").animate({ scrollTop: newscrollHeight }, \'normal\'); //Autoscroll to bottom of div } }, }); } setInterval (loadLog, 2500);'; echo '</script>'; } } } ?>'); is that legal, if not, how would i accomplish this?
