  • How do I make Powertop changes permanent?

    I'm on a Compaq 615 and it's fan is loud as hell. Not much you can do about that but I'm trying to keep the CPU/GPU as cool as possible. This is what Powertop has to say: If I change all of them to "good", the changes don't survive a reboot. Also, upon exiting Powertop I get this: Loaded 8 prior measurements Cannot load from file /var/cache/powertop/saved_parameters.powertop Leaving PowerTOP I added the line to the "grub"-file as suggested here Upon closing gedit I get this: (gedit:2728): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: Datei »/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.9CIMAW« konnte nicht angelegt werden: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden The part in German says: Couldn't be created: File or directory not found.

  • Getting the location from a WebClient on a HTTP 302 Redirect?

    I have a URL that returns a HTTP 302 redirect, and I would like to get the URL it redirects to. The problem is that System.Net.WebClient seems to actually follow it, which is bad. HttpWebRequest seems to do the same. Is there a way to make a simple HTTP Request and get back the target Location without the WebClient following it? I'm tempted to do raw socket communication as HTTP is simple enough, but the site uses HTTPS and I don't want to do the Handshaking. At the end, I don't care which class I use, I just don't want it to follow HTTP 302 Redirects :)

    Right now I redirect 100% of the time if someone does https://mysite.com <VirtualHost *:443> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName mysite.com ServerAlias www.mysite.com RewriteEngine on RewriteRule (.*) http://%{HTTP_HOST} [L,R=permanent] <VirtualHost> However, now I want to conditionally redirect. If a user goes to https://mysite.com/abc/, then I want to use https; otherwise redirect. How do I do this? I tried reading the docs, but just couldn't find what I needed. I am using Apache on Ubuntu Linux.

    Hopefully there's a simple solution to this. I'm setting up a redirect for old search listings, but I don't want any of the query string to carry over. The current rule is: redirect 301 /blog http://newdomain.com But this would redirect the following: http://www.olddomain.com/blog/2009/11/article-name-etc To this: http://newdomain.com/2009/11/article-name-etc When I just want: http://newdomain.com Can this be done in the simple 301 redirect, or will I have to write a mod_rewrite rule?

Contract pays are inevitably higher, because the contractors are not entitled for a lot of benefits, and not guaranteed of a job. I know the exact ratio of contract to permanent varies from person to person, but I need a rule of thumb here.

When posting to get the next set of results, something is wrong and the server redirects me to the first page, asking mechanize to update the SearchSession Cookie.   • How do you redirect https to http

    that is, the opposite of what (seemingly) everyone teaches. I have a server on https for which I paid an SSL cert for and a mirror for which I haven't and keep around for just for emergencies so it doesn't merit getting a cert for. On my client's desktops I have SOME shortcuts which point to http://production_server and https://productionserver (both work), however; I know that if my prod. server goes down, then DNS forwarding kicks in and those clients which have https on their shortcut will be staring at https://mirrorserver (Which doesnt work) and a big fat IE7 red screen of uneasyness for my company. Unfortunately, I can't just switch this around at the client level. These users are very computer illiterate: and are very likely to freak out from seeing https "insecurity" errors (specially the way FFX3 and IE7 handle it nowadays: FULL STOP, kinda thankfully, but not helping me here LOL). It's very easy to find apache solutions for http-https redirection, but for the life of me I can't do the opposite. Ideas? Cheers, /mp

I now want some way to redirects you to the correct url for hg repos Eg myserver/svn/MecurialRepo = myserver/hg/MercurialRepo Or the correct hg script is run, or somehow disable the Mecurial repos from not displaying under the svn url.     I have an application that runs the a command as below: <command> >& /dev/null I have no control on this. All the o/p generated by this command goes to /dev/null. I want the output to be visible on screen or redirected to a log file. I tried to use freopen() and related functions to reopen /dev/null to another file, but could not get it working.     Hi there, I have an affiliate link on my webpage. When you click on the link it follows the href value which is as follows: www.site_name.com/?refer=my_affiliate_id This would be fine, except that the site offers no tracking for the ads, so I can't tell how many clicks I am getting. I could easily implement my own tracking by changing the original link href value to a php script which increments some click stats in a database and then redirects the user to the original page. But I have read some articles that say that using redirects may be seen by google as a sign of 'blackhat' techniques and they might rank me lower, unindex my site or even hurt the site that I'm redirecting too. Does anybody know if this is true, or have any idea of the best way I could go about this? Many thanks in advance Joe

    I have a drupal site install at example.com/drupal but now that the site is built I want to forward all requests to that directory, without it ever showing "drupal" in url. I think this can be done with .htaccess, but I didn't know if that was a hack-y answer. I'm using mediatemple's GridServer so I don't have complete control over apache settings and stuff, although I do have SSH.

    I need to point the root domain of my hosting account to a subdirectory (joomla). I want this to be invisible (i.e. browser address bar doesn't change). Also, I need this to work when a user hits the root or a subfile/subfolder. I've tried the following rules, which work individually, but I can't get them to work together. This one works when no subfile/subfolder is specified: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^$ /joomla/ [L] And this one works when a subfile/subfolder IS specified: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule (.+)$ /joomla/$1 [L] I just can't figure out how to combine them.

    Im working on a web site that has to be reachable from many countries under the same domain. Id like to know how can I receive a request with nginx (or any other static file server), and send it to different web servers depending on IP's location. I mean, what is the point on having multiple db machines on country A and B, if the server that serves you the page is chosen by round robin. Maybe theres another solution to my problem, and I would be very happy if someone can explain it to me.

    Hi, i tried redirecting some folders to the subdomains with the same names as the folders. I tried this way but it didn't work: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(test1|test2)(.*?)$ http://$1.domain.com$2 [R=301,L] I guess the problem is that the alternation of folders doesn't return a result that i can get into $1, right? I'm not a PCRE expert so andy help would be appreciated.
