• How do I get numbers before and after a colon within a cell in Calc?

  I have some cells which contain times entered in by users, which are written in the following format: mm:ss. There are never any hours. The seconds always have leading zeroes. The minutes may or may not have leading zeros. Because I need to separate out the minutes and seconds for various operations, I need to be able to get at the numbers before and after the colon. How do I select the number before a colon in a cell, and how do I select the number after?

• How flexible is the 'indirect' function?

  My curiosity pushes me to ask this question. If I were to have a series of functions that referenced a different column in a worksheet but all ended on the same row of data is there a way to point the 'row' part of a cell reference to a blank cell and use it has a variable to show the results of the functions up to a desired row simultaneously? Example: =Average('worksheet 1'.$A$1:'worksheet 1'.$A100) =Max('worksheet 1'.$B$1:'worksheet 1'.$B100) =Min('worksheet 1'.$C$1:'worksheet 1'.$C100) =Sum('worksheet 1'.$D$1:'worksheet 1'.$D100) Pseudo formulas... =Average('worksheet 1'.$A$1:'worksheet 1'.$A*('worksheet 2'.$A$1)*) =Max('worksheet 1'.$B$1:'worksheet 1'.$B*('worksheet 2'.$A$1)*) =Min('worksheet 1'.$C$1:'worksheet 1'.$C*('worksheet 2'.$A$1)*) =Sum('worksheet 1'.$D$1:'worksheet 1'.$D*('worksheet 2'.$A$1)*) Where 'worksheet 2'.$A$1 would only contain a number corresponding to a row in 'worksheet 1'. After stumbling upon and playing with the indirect() function I have only been able to replace the entire cell reference (Column and Row) with any success. The formula so far =SUM('worksheet 1'.C3:INDIRECT(A1)) Where A1 is on 'worksheet 2' and contains a full cell reference pointing to 'worksheet 1'. Any pointers?

Beans 1.48oz/12 ? Chips 6.5oz/20 ? I am trying to match the type of product with the correct weight. So I need a formula that will choose the correct column based on the Category and then choose the correct row based on the name and output the result next to it.

• What does Libre Office do to an existing Excel sheet to bloat its size?

  I try to avoid using Libre Office on existing Excel created workbooks because of the potential for unpleasant results. In this case Libre Office bloated the size of the workbook for some reason unknown to me. I would like to know if Libre Office does this to all Excel workbooks or just something in that workbook that causes it. Software involved: Microsoft Office Excel 2010 Libre Office 3.5.x (exact version unknown) Dropbox (merely to sync changes) Platforms involved: Office on Windows (master of the obvious on that one I suppose..) Libre Office on Mac OS 10.6 Types of data stored in this workbook: Text Integers 1 column with a simple formula spanning the entire worksheet representing that particular row (=CONCATENATE(A2285,B2285,D2285), =CONCATENATE(A2286,B2286,D2286), etc.) Total of 3,500 plus rows Here is a photo with details described within, but I'll go ahead and explain the photo as well: This screenshot is from Dropbox history of the .xlsx workbook. Version 61 - 68 were Office Excel. Version 69 - 73 were Libre Office.

• Control cell reference increment when dragging a forumula in Libre Office Calc (3.5)

  Using Libre Office Calc (3.5) and have a question. When copying a formula that references cells into multiple empty cells the default is to increment each cell reference by one column or row, depending on the direction that the formula is being drug. A formula '= 1 + A1' drug horizontally changes to '= 1 + B1' when pulled one cell to right and '=1 + A2' when pulled one cell down. Is there a way to control increase the increment of the referenced cell? Is is possible to have a formula '= 1 + A1' that effectively changes to '= 1 + A3' when drug down one cell, '= 1 + A5' when drug down two cells, etc? If it matters, I am trying to take a constantly updating master list of data that is organized by dates (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and create separate spread sheets for each day of the week that can be updated by only pulling down the formula into the next cell. My attempts at using the 'lookup' function, 'offset' function, and creating a sort column in Libre Office Calc are thwarted by my inability to figure out how to get around the single step increment when pulling a formula down into the next cell.   I'm modeling a simple movie database using Django. models.py defines a base model Person. I extend Person into Actor and Director, which works as I imagined. Persons must be unique. When (in the Admin) I create an instance of Actor, and this person is also a Director, it won't save because of the unique = True. Any ideas how to solve this problem? (generic foreign keys?) Thx

  If I have a relative path to a static asset (flash/blah.swf), what is the best way to convert this to an absolute URL (http://localhost/app/flash/blah.swf)? • C# Drag and Drop - e.Data.GetData using a base class

  C# Winforms 3.5 I have a list of user controls all derived from one base class. These controls can be added to various panels and I'm trying to implement the drag-drop functionality, the problem I'm running in to is on the DragDrop event. The DragEventArgs: e.Data.GetData(typeof(baseClass)) doesn't work. It wants: e.Data.GetData(typeof(derivedClass1)) e.Data.GetData(typeof(derivedClass2)) etc... Is there a way I can get around this, or a better way to architect it?

However, the page when rendered has a different id for this element. How can I specify the correct id name in the css file?   Regarding the following C++ program: class Base { }; class Child : public Base { }; int main() { // Normal: using child as base is allowed Child *c = new Child(); Base *b = c; // Double pointers: apparently can't use Child** as Base** Child **cc = &c; Base **bb = cc; return 0; } GCC produces the following error on the last assignment statement: error: invalid conversion from ‘Child**’ to ‘Base**’ My question is in two parts: Why is there no implicit conversion from Child** to Base**? I can make this example work with a C-style cast or a reinterpret_cast. Using these casts means throwing away all type safety. Is there anything I can add to the class definitions to make these pointers cast implicitly, or at least phrase the conversion in a way that allows me to use static_cast instead?

However, the derived class does require the this-member indirect access syntax. I don't understand why this is. Both class methods are accessing the same static data, so why does the derived class need further specification? A simple call to test it is: int main () { Derived<double> dd (7.0); dd.Print(); return 0; } which prints the expected "Derived: 7"

  Suppose I have a class Dog that inherits from a class Animal. What is the difference between these two lines of code? Animal *a = new Dog(); Dog *d = new Dog(); In one, the pointer is for the base class, and in the other, the pointer is for the derived class. But when would this distinction become important? For polymorphism, either one would work exactly the same, right?
