  • Exchange 2010 SP1 upgrade prerequisite checks fail for KB979744, but update fails as Not Applicable

    I'm trying to install the SP1 update to an RTM Exchange 2010 box. The Client Access Role Prerequisites are failing, complaining that KB979744 isn't installed. I downloaded the update and tried to install it, however it will not install complaining that 'The update does not apply to your system'. A discussion on TechNet indicates that I need .NET 2.0 or 3.5 installed (both are). Aside from that I've been unable to find anything helpful. Hopefully someone has encountered this and knows how to get around it, don't really want to use up a support call on this. Edit: This is on a 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Datacenter (without Hyper-V) SP2.

  • VMWare Player 5.0 Upgrade - Bridged Networking No Longer Works

    I've been using VMWare Player 4 on my Windows 7 PC, running my VMs under a bridged networking configuration without any problem. I settled on bridged networking two reasons... I often use VMs to host web applications for test purposes. I never could get NAT to work for me anyway, but no love lost, considering reason #1. Now that I've upgraded to VMWare Player 5, the situation has completely reversed. In other words, bridged networking no longer works at all, and NAT does. Has anyone else come across this? Any ideas on getting bridged networking to work again? This happens with both Windows and Linux guest OSes. VMWare Tools has been fully updated. I've tried the usual vmnetcfg.exe utility fix, to no avail.

  • How do I reattach to Ubuntu Server's 'do-release-upgrade' process?

    I accidentally pressed Ctrl+C during Ubuntu Server's do-release-upgrade process. I'd dropped to a shell to compare a .conf file in /etc/. When I pressed Ctrl-C, it asked whether I wanted to try to reattach to the upgrade process, but it failed to do so. So I quit, and now there's a hanging dpkg process which is holding onto the apt lock. This is a virtualised server with no GUI frontend... Is it possible to recover the upgrade process, or do I have to kill the dpkg process and start again? UPDATE:- AFAICT, there was no way to reattach to the upgrade process. However, it wasn't a disaster at all. I killed the hanging dpkg process, and then ran dpkg --configure -a. This walks you through reconfiguring all packages already installed on the system, tidying up any problems whilst it does so. After that, I used aptitude to upgrade the remaining packages, which had already been downloaded, but hadn't been installed or configured.

  • I can't update my system properly, "no package header" error

    Every time I try to run sudo apt-get update or try running updates from the GUI interface I run into the following problem or something similar: Reading package lists... Error! E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_restricted_binary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. I've tried purging using sudo rm -rf <filename> where <filename> is the listed file above, and then running sudo apt-get update to fix it (as listed elsewhere in this forum) and no luck, just keep getting this message. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and this is getting really frustrating... I just want a system that runs smoothly and doesn't require it's hand to be held when it comes to updates.   • Cant install software

    So I just installed the ubuntu 11.10 .. I tried making a file in the apt.conf.d folder also, and added proxy entries, also set the system proxy.. and also the "network proxy", but nothing works.. And now I cant install any software!!   • How can I easily pass all the variables from a template to a partial in Symfony with output escaping

    It there an easy way to pass all the variables a template file has access to onto a partial when I have output escaping on? I tend to create a template file, then refactor things into a partial at some point and it would seem that there would be an easy way to just pass all the same variables from the template to the partial and be done with it. I have output escaping on and I can't just pass in $sf_data. It look like calling a partial from within another partial is very simple...just pass in the variable $vars.

    this is an issue I have googled a lot and I have tried a lot of fixes, but non of them really worked. At some point (I can't remember when/how) my Update system sort of broke, and since then it is always complaining about "Not all updates can be installed, run a Partial Upgrade". If I click on Partial Upgrade, I get the following result But running apt-get install -f does not fix anything, and at the end I always get the following message Funny thing is that my apt-get system works perfect on Console. I can update my system through apt-get update, apt-get upgrade etc.. So.. how can I fix the graphic interface? I understand that my apt-get system is not broken, but somehow its GUI it is. Any thoughts about it? THANKS! P.D: I have already tried sudo dpkg --configure -a and sudo apt-get autoremove

    For LTS upgrades the recomendation is wait 3 months or first point release to is where the major bugs are fixed and the release is "stable" for production. What is the recommended amount of time to wait before upgrade to a non LTS release? Im just talking about the desktop version of course. Im asking because found this where say all release from 14.04 will be based on debian unstable: Cutting Edge: Starting with the 14.04 LTS development cycle, automatic full package import is performed from Debian unstable1 This is due to deploying ProposedMigration in the Ubuntu archive.     I was upgrading my Eee PC from 11.10 to 12.04 as prompted and the upgrade locked up (the lappy was plugged into power - so that wasn't the problem). The system won't boot now and I'm getting an error that "GLIBC_2.14 not found". I am unable to boot into any recovery mode or prior version. The lappy was a dual boot, but when I installed Ubuntu the first time, I opted out of that option (whoops). Now I can't load, it goes into a forever 'ubuntu' loading screen. I have a fresh install on a memory stick, but when I set the lappy to boot from it - it doesn't work. Help. I have no idea what to do next... ??

  • How to keep specific old kernel on my next kernel upgrade?

    I just updated my Ubuntu 14.04 and got a new kernel. This new kernel is not working properly for me so I booted the previous version. Let's call this good old working version "3.13.0-24.47". Now, I want to keep this "3.13.0-24.47" version until I decide to delete it manually. I want to be able to upgrade my kernel each time there is a new version in hope of getting the one which works again. Until then, I want to use the "3.13.0-24.47". I'm afraid that next update will delete my "3.13.0-24.47" version because there are only two kernel versions available at a given time on my system (/boot).

  • How to upgrade to R 3.0.1 in Raring Ringtail?

    I need to install the new version of R to get around the 2^31 object size limit. Its not clear how to do so. I see that there is a user-contributed PPA here. But I'm not sure exactly how to install it -- I would add the PPA, then do sudo apt-get install R-base? Do I need to manually remove the old version? How do I make sure that the new version of R plays well with Rgedit, which I use as an editor? I see many packages built for the PPA, but I don't see ALL of them, and in particular it is missing many that I use. Can I upgrade without creating problems along the lines of the worries described above? How do I do it?

  • When I boot it says "No any drive found" and turns off after upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04

    I did an upgrade on the weekend from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (karmic to lucid). Now, when I restart my computer, it goes through the regular load screen showing my P5K Asus motherboard, just like before but instead of showing the Ubuntu load screen, it tries to start grub but fails and then says "No any drive found" and the screen goes black. I've tried changing the drive configuration in the BIOS to AHCI or RAID and that didn't work. I've tried disabling JMICRON but to no avail. I'm running out of options here. Any advice?

  • Upgrading 8.10 server to LTS

    I'm in a plan to upgrade ubuntu 8.10 vbox vm servers to LTS(obviously 10.04) as 8.10 has no support. As far as I know I'll be executing the following to upgrade: apt-get install update-manager-core do-release-upgrade anybody could tell me how could I upgrade a ubuntu server from alternate iso image(Is the alternate iso image used for desktop editons the same used for servers?)? I heard it's possible to upgrade an LTS directly to another LTS and how could I do this after upgrading 8.10 to 9.04 then directly to 10.04 skipping 9.10? 8.10 servers are hosting many services/applications/databases like apache2, tomcat6, ldap, mysql, cvs... and I'm not sure that all of them work as ever after the upgrade. If there is any precautions that I've to following before upgrading, please anyone let me know(ofcourse backup and I'm not going to take backup as I will be trying this on a copy of vdi/vmdk vms) Thanks!

  • .NET MVC: How to fix Visual Studio's lack of awareness of CSS classes in partial views?

    Hi all, This has been sort of an annoyance for me for a while. I make pretty heavy use of partial views in MVC, and am using Visual Studio 2008 to develop. The problem is that when I give html elements a class in a partial view (<div class="someClass">), it will underline them in green like it doesn't know what they are. I realize this is because I'm in a partial view, and haven't put link tags anywhere in that file for it to know where the CSS is (the link tags are in the main view that renders the partial view). The CSS still works fine on my site because the browser will render all views as one long html page anyway, but it's really annoying to look through my partial views and see all of my classes underlined in green. Is there a way that I can still tell Visual Studio that those classes exist somewhere, from the partial view? I figured there has to be a way to let it know, but am not sure what it is. Maybe a way to import the stylesheets from the parent view? Thanks for your help.

  • No VB6 to VS2010 direct upgrade path

    From the "is this really news?" department... From looking at the currently available versions of 2010, there is no direct upgrade path from VB6 to VS2010. Anyone still using VB6 and wishing to upgrade to VS2010 has two options:  Use the upgrade tool from an earlier version of VS (like 2005 or 2008) and then run the upgrade in VS2010 to get the rest of the way... or rewrite your code. I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader which is the better option. I'd like to take a moment to point out the obvious: A) If you're still using VB6 at this point, you probably don't care about VS2010 compatibility. B) Running your code through 2 upgrade wizards isn't going to result in anything resembling best practices.
