• Visual Studio Team System 2008 - messy formatting/control characters/marks in source code

  Hi, I don't know what I did but somehow the IDE has started displaying a green dot whenever I press spacebar and a green arrowhead whenever I press TAB. The source has become littered with these characters all over and I am finding it very difficult to code in the presence of so many formatting marks. I have tried to search a solution on Google but couldn't perhaps enter the right keywords so haven't been able to fix the behavior. Is there any way I can stop VS2008 IDE from littering my source code with these green dots and arrowheads whenever I press spacebar/tab? I would be really thankful for this help. Thanks, -AL

• How to "interleave" two DataTables.

  Take these two lists: List 1 Red Green Blue List 2 Brown Red Blue Purple Orange I'm looking for a way to combine these lists together to produce: List 3 Brown Red Green Blue Purple Orange I think the basic rules are these: 1) Insert on top the list any row falling before the first common row (e.g., Brown comes before the first common row, Red); 2) Insert items between rows if both lists have two items (e.g., List 1 inserts Green between Red and Blue); and 3) Insert rows on the bottom if the there's no "between-ness" found in 2 (e.g., List 2 inserts Orange at the bottom). The lists are stored in a DataTable. I'm guessing I'll have to switch between them while iterating, but I'm having a hard time figuring out a method of combining the rows. • MVC: Model View Controller -- does the View call the Model?

  I've been reading about MVC design for a while now and it seems officially the View calls objects and methods in the Model, builds and outputs a view. I think this is mainly wrong. The Controller should act and retrieve/update objects inside the Model, select an appropriate View and pass the information to it so it may display. Only crude and rudiementary PHP variables/simple if statements should appear inside the View. If the View gets the information it needs to display from the Model, surely there will be a lot of PHP inside the View -- completely violating the point of seperating presentation logic.

• Can't connect to Office Communication Server through Unified Communications API

  I am trying to connect to Office Communication Server using the Unified Communications Managed API. I have tried my user and a fresh user enabled for OCS. Both account can successfully log into the Office Communicator client, but fail using the API. When creating the network credential, if I pass in the username in the form domain\username, I get this error: SupportedAuthenticationProtocols=Ntlm, Kerberos Realm=SIP Communications Service FailureReason=InvalidCredentials ErrorCode=-2146893044 Microsoft.Rtc.Signaling.AuthenticationException: The log on was denied. Check that the proper credentials are being used and the account is active. ---> Microsoft.Rtc.Internal.Sip.AuthException: NegotiateSecurityAssociation failed, error: - 2146893044 If I leave off the domain in the username I this error: ResponseCode=404 ResponseText=Not Found DiagnosticInformation=ErrorCode=4005,Source=OCS.mydomain.com,Reason=Destination URI either not enabled for SIP or does not exist

• Spry Collapsible Panel within Collapsible Panel, inconsistent errors.

  Hello everyone it is me again with another question. The booking system located here http://www.divethegap.com/scuba-diving-programmes-dive-the-gap/divemaster-training.php?cat=16 There are 3 main collapsible panels controlled by the spry framework. There are then over a dozen more inside the first collapsible panel as you can see on that page. When you open one of those by pressing one of the 'learn more' buttons you will see that the main collapsible panel that it is in also expands to fit that content and the contracts if you close the smaller panel again. However as soon as you go to the next main collapsible panel 'summery and quote' and then go back to the first main panel by pressing the button that says 'back' there are problems. Now if you open up one of the smaller panels inside the first main panel you will see that the main panel does not expand to fit the contents and in fact the content of the smaller panels spreads over the other content, floating above it. Does anybody know how to fix this? Many Thanks,

From the various online articles on Java 7 I have come to know that Java 7 will be having collection literals like the following: List<String> fruits = [ "Apple", "Mango", "Guava" ]; Set<String> flowers = { "Rose", "Daisy", "Chrysanthemum" }; Map<Integer, String> hindiNums = { 1 : "Ek", 2 : "Do", 3 : "Teen" }; My questions are: 1] Wouldn't it have been possible to provide a static method of in all of the collection classes which could be used as follows: List<String> fruits = ArrayList.of("Apple", "Mango", "Guava"); IMO this looks as good as the literal version and is also reasonably concise. Why then did they have to invent a new syntax? 2] When I say List<String> fruits = [ "Apple", "Mango", "Guava" ]; what List would I actually get? Would it be ArrayList or LinkedList or something else? Thanks.

• Computing orientation of a square and displaying an object with the same orientation

  Hi, I wrote an application which detects a square within an image. To give you a good understanding of how such an image containing such a square, in this case a marker, could look like: What I get, after the detection, are the coordinates of the four corners of my marker. Now I don't know how to display an object on my marker. The object should have the same rotation/angle/direction as the marker. Are there any papers on how to achieve that, any algorithms that I can use that proofed to be pretty solid/working? It doesn't need to be a working solution, it could be a simple description on how to achieve that or something similar. If you point me at a library or something, it should work under linux, windows is not needed but would be great in case I need to port the application at some point. I already looked at the ARToolkit but they you camera parameter files and more complex matrices while I only got the four corner points and a single image instead of a whole video / camera stream.

• Monotouch.dialog and story board apps?

  I'm trying to use mt.d; I've "drawn" an app using the storyboard feature of Xcode. My app consists of a tabbar which displays one of three viewcontrollers. Two out of three are simple viewcontrollers (single screens) and one is a splitviewcontroller. The splitview is tricky; using the stock xcode components I've drawn a master / table and a detail view. The table works as expected, but now I want to use mt.d to fill the detailview (later I need it to depend on the selection of the master, but not for now). I've subclassed the splitviewcontroller; in the viewdidload event I've created a mt.d dialogviewcontroller. Now I'm trying to push the dialogviewcontroller to the detailview, using the splitviewcontroller.viewcontrollers array. Doesn't seem to work; when running the app it still some an empty screen for the detail view (as drawn in xcode). Any clues for doing what I want? Thanx!

• Hiding UIToolBar for child views of UITableViewController

  My main controller is a subclass of UITableViewController with a UIToolBar at the bottom and when a row is selected, I'd like to display another view without the toolbar. How can I hide the UIToolBar in the child view? Right now, it's present throughout all child views unless they're created as modal. • IA-32: Pushing a byte onto a stack isn't possible on Pentium, why?

  Hi, I've come to learn that you cannot push a byte directly onto the Intel Pentium's stack, can anyone explain this to me please? The reason that I've been given is because the esp register is word-addressable (or, that is the assumption in our model) and it must be an "even address". I would have assumed decrementing the value of some 32-bit binary number wouldn't mess with the alignment of the register, but apparently I don't understand enough. I have tried some NASM tests and come up that if I declare a variable (bite db 123) and push it on to the stack, esp is decremented by 4 (indicating that it pushed 32-bits?). But, "push byte bite" (sorry for my choice of variable names) will result in a kind error: test.asm:10: error: Unsupported non-32-bit ELF relocation Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated during this troubled time. I am first year undergraduate so sorry for my naivety in any of this. Tim

• Loading one page inside another

  User 'Citizen' provided an answer to the iframe situation with the ajax script from dynamic drive. As I predicted it although it loads one page inside another it does not work with the calculation scripts, collapsible panels, validation form. All of it simply not working. I have set up a test page that has the exact same HEAD section as the page that is loaded inside it, so it is not s problem of script location. Take a look and see if you can tell me what is going on. Baring in mind this is just a test page. On the test page the entire page is loaded from another and as you can see all the collapsible panels are open, all calculations except the duration are not working because another file that is loaded by ajax on the original page is not loading in this one, the accordion menu us not working and the validation form is not validating. It is as if all script triggers have been removed and left behind but like I said the HEAD section of the parent page contains all of the scripts as well.   Is it possible to write a C macro that returns the length of its arguments? I want something that does: foo(1) -> 1 foo(cat, dog) -> 2 foo(red, green, blue) -> 3 Even better if this macro can be defined in such a way that it works with ## so that foo(1) -> bar1(1) foo(cat, dog) -> bar2(cat, dog) foo(red, green, blue) -> car3(red, green, blue) Thanks!   I have the opportunity to go back for MSCS and the closest college's main research is in computer security and forensics. I've always been interested in computer networks and security but I have no interest whatsoever to run cables or add users to the network( which is what the network people do where I currently work ). I wanted to know how may I find out the types of day to day task a computer security expert does? I don't mean the jobs you find on dice or indeed. I'm talking about the type of careers that start out at the NSA or DIA. Also, I'm wondering what the pay is like for these types of fields? Thanks to all that reply.

• Serial port determinism

  This seems like a simple question, but it is difficult to search for. I need to interface with a device over the serial port. In the event my program (or another) does not finish writing a command to the device, how do I ensure the next run of the program can successfully send a command? Example: The foo program runs and begins writing "A_VERY_LONG_COMMAND" The user terminates the program, but the program has only written, "A_VERY" The user runs the program again, and the command is resent. Except, the device sees "A_VERYA_VERY_LONG_COMMAND," which isn't what we want. Is there any way to make this more deterministic? Serial port programming feels very out-of-control due to issues like this.

When passing from A.swf, it gets a Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. • Highlighting company name in Eclipse stack traces

  Is there a way to make Eclipse highlight com.company (where for company substitute the name of the company you work for) in stack traces? It would make it fractionally easier and faster to home in on which parts of the stack trace were ours, and which were third-party code. I tried the logview plugin here, and while it does work, it makes the location information in the stack traces unclickable, which means I would waste more time than I would save.

(a != 0 ? a : null); In order to compile, it needs to be changed to int? b = (a != 0 ? a : (int?) null); Since both b = null and b = a are legal, this doesn't make sense to me. Why does null need to be casted, and why can't we simply cast the whole expression (which I know is legal in other cases)?

  Hi all, I would like to use a command like this: plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n") polygon(1:7, c(2,1,2,NA,2,1,2), col=c("red", "blue"), # border=c("green", "yellow"), border=c(1,10), lwd=c(1:10)) To create two triangles, with different line widths. But the polygon command doesn't seem to recycle the "lwd" parameter as it does the col or the border parameters. I would like the resulting plot to look like what the following code will produce: plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n") polygon(1:3, c(2,1,2), col=c("red"), # border=c("green", "yellow"), border=c(1,10), lwd=c(1)) polygon(5:7, c(2,1,2), col=c( "blue"), # border=c("green", "yellow"), border=c(1,10), lwd=c(10)) So my questions are: Is there something like polygon that does what I asked for?   I have the following script which I use to give me a simple "diff" between tables on two different databases. (Note: In reality my comparison is on a lot more than just an ID) SELECT MyTableA.MyId, MyTableB.MyId FROM MyDataBaseA..MyTable MyTableA FULL OUTER JOIN MyDataBaseB..MyTable MyTableB ON MyTableA.MyId = MyTableB.MyId WHERE MyTableA.MyId IS NULL OR MyTableB.MyId IS NULL I now need to run this script on two databases that exist on different servers. At the moment my solution is to backup the database from one server, restore it to the other and then run the script. I'm pretty sure this is possible, however, is this likely to be a can of worms? This is a very rare task I need to perform and if it involves a large number of DB setting changes then I will probably stick to my backup method.

  Hi, My app offers a "share/tell-a-friend" function. When the "share" button is pressed the following method is being called to open a list of apps, which can perform the action (Eg. I guess that my app gets closed in the background during the sharing process... at least that is what the debugger sais... Any ideas?

• Do I need to use decimal places when using floats? Is the "f" suffix necessary?

  I've seen several examples in books and around the web where they sometimes use decimal places when declaring float values even if they are whole numbers, and sometimes using an "f" suffix. Is this necessary? For example: [UIColor colorWithRed:0.8 green:0.914 blue:0.9 alpha:1.00]; How is this different from: [UIColor colorWithRed:0.8f green:0.914f blue:0.9f alpha:1.00f]; Does the trailing "f" mean anything special? Getting rid of the trailing zeros for the alpha value works too, so it becomes: [UIColor colorWithRed:0.8 green:0.914 blue:0.9 alpha:1]; So are the decimal zeros just there to remind myself and others that the value is a float? Just one of those things that has puzzled me so any clarification is welcome :)
