  • Apache rewrite rule to remove index.php and direct certain areas to https

    I have a codeignitor application running on Apache2, I have managed to remove the index.php from the urls with this .htaccess RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule .* index.php/$0 [PT,L] now I want to make certain parts of the site redirect to https, I tried this: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule .* index.php/$0 [PT,L] RewriteRule ^/?cpanel/(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}/cpanel/$1 [R,L] RewriteRule ^/?login/(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}/cpanel/$1 [R,L] But it doesn't work. I have to say when it comes to Apache rewrites im a noob. I can't find any tutorials on how to remove index.php and rewrite/redirect certain parts of the site to https. Any ideas, Thanks.

  • Time Machine Server on Fedora

    I was just wondering if anyone knew how to/or knew of a good guide to setting up mac Time Machine backup server on a fedora 17 machine. I recently ran into an issue with my HDD and lost all of my data, so I don't want it to ever happen again, as it was quite traumatising, haha! I just want to be able to back all of my data up on my fedora machine from my mac, at scheduled times when I connect to my home network. If anyone could help, it would be fantastic, I searched around on google, but all of the ones I found were for older distros. Thanks guys!

  • Migrating Identity Providers - specifying a new users password hash.

    We'd like to switch Identity Provider (and Web Access Manager), and also the user directory we use, but would like to do so without users needing to change their password. We currently have the SSHA of the passwords. I'm expecting to write code to perform the migration. I don't mind how complex the code has to be, rather my concern is whether such a migration is possible at all. MS Active Directory would be our preferred user store, but I believe that it can not have new users set up in it with a particular password hash. Is that correct? What user directory stores can be populated with users already set up with a SSHA password? What Identity Provider and Access Management products work with those stores?

  • How do I make the Windows low memory warning less sensitive?

    I keep getting this annoying low memory warning/prompt to close games I play. It happens very often and I still have ~6 gigs of ram free. I disabled virtual memory because it was putting stuff on the pagefile when I had 10 gigs free ram so that spiked my disk usage. Is there any way to disable this warning? I have 16GB ram so it shouldn't be an issue. I would prefer to keep pagefiles off because my HD is very loud so it's nice to keep it spun down as much as possible. I don't want to disable it completely. Ideally, I would like it to go off when I have ~2GB left rather than 6, but if this isn't viable, I may just disable it completely.

  • MSDTC Port 135 open bi-directionally

    I have two servers, a web application server and an SQL Server database running on its own server. I have a firewall between these two servers. Do I have to open port 135 on both the SQL Server and the Web Application Server. Does the SQL Server open its own connection to the Web Application Server on port 135 or any other port? Do I have to in component services point the Web Application Server MSDTC at the SQL Database Server? If the firewall is completely open, the settings in component services set to allow remote connections, remote administration etc is there any other settings that need to be changed in order to allow remote connections to the SQL Server MSDTC?

  • How to show what proxies/firewalls are enabled on Windows XP?

    Hi, I'm trying to fix a Windows XP PC that is having a strange problem. The computer can't seem to connect to the internet, even though an internet connection is present. The router and internet is working fine as I've connected a laptop to it via LAN and wireless and both worked fine. The PC in question is connected to the router as it has an IP from the DHCP. The problem is I can't connect to nor ping any internet address from the PC. I can't even connect to the router admin itself. I've tried both LAN ports in the PC, same problem and both. I'm assuming there's a proxy or firewall on the PC stopping the connections, I just don't know how to find them or see which one is causing the issue. So my question is how do I on Windows XP display the system proxy settings and/or any firewalls that are running? Cheers.

  • Is PCI Express x4 faster or slower than a standard PCI slot for graphic cards?

    I am looking at potential motherboards for a computer I want to build and ran into this conundrum. The motherboard has two PCI Express slots that allow for 16 channel cards to fit in them. The catch is only one of them operates at 16 channels, the other operates only 4 channels. My question is, would it be faster to buy a PCI Express graphic card and install it in the 4 channel PCI Express slot? Or would it be better to buy a standard PCI graphic card and install it in one of the available PCI slots?

  • Getting started with VNC

    I have subscribed to a VPS service for the purpose of running some remote applications. To do this I'm going to need a remote desktop of one sort or another. With this in mind it was suggested that I try Ubuntu. The installation that was prepared for me was Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit (Ubuntu 11.10 (GNU/Linux 2.6.18-348.4.1.el5.028stab107.1 x86_64)) From here I used apt-get install ubuntu-desktop which completed successfully. I rebooted the machine and reconnected via ssh. When I attempt to connect from TightVNC on my Windows machine I get a message about the session being actively refused. What should I do to confirm the service is running? Do I need to setup a firewall rule to allow the ports to pass through? (I am a linux newb so explicitness is appreciated)

  • Program that converts Windows 7 install files into iso

    I recently got to build a custom image of Windows 7 and I can successfully install it on other computers. The problem I have is right now I have to do the installs from a bootable hard drive. I would much rather do this from a disk or ISO. I know there is a program that will take the Windows 7 system files and convert it to ISO image, but I can't think of it. Otherwise, could I just simply burn the files to a DVD? Would that work?

  • Windows keeps switching to accented characters

    I am accidentally hitting a key combination that turns accenting on in an application. For example, the / key is being rendered as é and I don't know how to turn it off. It's on a per application basis and if I exit the application and re-enter then it will go back to normal. Right now it's happened to Chrome and I have dozens of tabs open and I don't want to close it. I found this answer but hitting RCtrl + RShift doesn't work. This is for Windows 7.

  • Accessing SVN Repository on external drive

    I've installed SVN on my Raspberry PI and configured it to access the repository on an external hard drive. In /etc/fstab, I've have the following: //192.168.1.12/SHARE/repos /media/repos cifs sec=ntlm,username=Guest,password=,_netdev,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777 0 0 This mounts with no issues. When I go to add a project to the repository using the following command: sudo svn import mywebsite/ file://media/repos/mainrepository/mywebsite/ -m "Initial Upload" I get the following error: svn: E170000: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'file://media/repos/mainrepository/mywebsite' svn: E170000: Unable to open an ra_local session to URL svn: E170000: Local URL 'file://media/repos/mainrepository/mywebsite' contains unsupported hostname The only thing I think maybe causing the issue is the file settings: drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 0 Jun 11 2009 repos As you can see the owner is root, I think it needs to be www-data, but for some reason I can't change it. Any help appreciated.

  • How can I check cells for number series?

    I have a bit of a problem evaluating an excel cell. Example: M M M M M M M M M 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 2;5;7 1;9 3;5;7;9 I have a number of excel cells which contain numbers (months). In the first column I have a series of numbers. I want to use conditional formatting to color the corresponding cells in the right columns. If correctly colored I would get something like this: M M M M M M M M M 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 2;5;7 X X X 1;9 X X 3;5;7;9 X X X X The formula I have now is this: IF(ISNUMBER(FIND(L$22;$K23));$H23;"") but the problem is that cells are colored too which contain part of a number. If I enter 10;15 as input I get this: M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 10;15 X X X X because 1 and 5 are found too. I only want column 10 and 15 to be marked. How can I change the formula or the input?

  • Why does 64-bit Windows need a separate "Program Files (x86)" folder?

    I know that on a 64-bit version of Windows the "Program Files" folder is for 64-bit programs and the "Program Files (x86)" folder is for 32-bit programs, but why is this even necessary? By "necessary", I don't mean "why could Microsoft not have made any other design decisions?" because of course they could have. Rather, I mean, "why, given the current design of 64-bit Windows, must 32-bit programs have a separate top-level folder from 64-bit programs?" There are plenty of questions on Super User and elsewhere that assert "one is for 32-bit programs, one is for 64-bit programs", but none that I can find give the reason. From my experience, it doesn't seem to matter whether a 32-bit program is installed in the correct place or not. Does Windows somehow present itself differently to a program running out of "Program Files (x86)"? Is there a description that shows exactly what's different for a program installed in "Program Files (x86)" instead of "Program Files"? I think it's unlikely that Microsoft would introduce a new folder without a legitimate technical reason.

  • Apache not serving pages stored in Subversion repository

    I've setup Apache and Subversion on an old PC, but Apache is not serving pages correctly, when I enter the address to my test site: http://HOME_IP_ADDRESS/test/index.html I just get a File Not Found error and the following output in the error log: File does not exist: /var/www/html/svn/repos/test but I know the file exists, when I enter the following URL into the browser: http://HOME_IP_ADDRESS/repos/test/index.html I just get a listing of the HTML. In my Apache config file I have the Document Root set as follows: DocumentRoot "/var/www/html/svn/repos" so I'm not sure what is going on, I have SVN installed and I think it may have something to do this. Edit * I changed the Document Root location, which helped as pages in the new location were served correctly, so the problem is with just serving the pages from the repository.

  • CentOS and OpenSSH [on hold]

    I've recently installed CentOS 6 on an old Dell PC. I'm trying to setup OpenSSH at the moment, I been following some tutorials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKafb0koJEg) on You Tube, while they have been very helpful I'm at the point where I need to ask some questions. My goal here is to be able to access the server from my work computer and from my personal laptop (which will be on the same home network as the server). I've installed OpenSSH with no issues. So the first thing I was advised to do was port forwarding. So in the sshd_config file, I've changed Port 22 to Port xxxx (where xxxx is a obviously a four digit value). I then restart the sshd service. I've also configured my router for forward port 22 onto xxxx. Is there anything else I need to do? I've generated the keys on my laptop, and I'm trying to copy them to the server as follows: scp id_rsa.pub xxxxxxxx@localhost:.ssh/authorized_keys but this command fails with the following error message: ssh: connect to host localhost port 22: Connection refused lost connection Any help appreciated.   • Can a mapped network drive be reconnected from the command line?

    On a daily basis I find myself in the Windows command prompt needing to access a network drive that is mapped but disconnected. I have yet to find a command that will reconnect this drive without unmapping and remapping (which leads to a password guessing game, since I don't own these computers). I would also like to be able to script this so every night the drive is reconnected if it has become disconnected somehow. The fastest solution I currently have is to: Type "start." to open explorer, Alt-D to focus the address bar, type the drive letter I want and press enter, and wait for it to display the drive contents, then finally, close explorer and go back to the command prompt. I know it's a minor inconvenience, but I'm often doing this through a slow VNC or PCAnywhere connection where doing anything through GUI is awful, so I'm just wondering if there's a better solution.

  • Editor's Notebook - Social Aura: Insights from the Oracle Social Media Summit

    Panelists talk social marketing at the Oracle Social Media Summit On November 14, I traveled to Las Vegas for the first-ever Oracle Social Media Summit. The two day event featured an impressive collection of social media luminaries including: David Kirkpatrick (founder and CEO of Techonomy Media and author of The Facebook Effect), John Yi (Head of Marketing Partnerships, Facebook), Matt Dickman (EVP of Social Business Innovation, Weber Shandwick), and Lyndsay Iorio (Social Media & Communications Manager, NBC Sports Group) among others. It was also a great opportunity to talk shop with some of our new Vitrue and Involver colleagues who have been returning great social media results even before their companies were acquired by Oracle. I was live tweeting the event from @OracleProfit which was great for those who wanted to follow along with the proceedings from the comfort of their office or blackjack table. But I've also found over the years that live tweeting an event is a handy way to take notes: I can sift back through my record of what people said or thoughts I had at the time and organize the Twitter messages into some kind of summary account of the proceedings. I've had nearly a month to reflect on the presentations and conversations at the event and a few key topics have emerged: David Kirkpatrick's comment during the opening presentation really set the stage for the conversations that followed. Especially if you are a marketer or publisher, the idea that you are in a one-way broadcast relationship with your audience is a thing of the past. "Rising above the noise" does not mean reaching for a megaphone, ALL CAPS, or exclamation marks. Hype will not motivate social media denizens to do anything but unfollow and tune you out. But knowing your audience, creating quality content and/or offers for them, treating them with respect, and making an authentic effort to please them: that's what I believe is now necessary. And Kirkpatrick's comment early in the day really made the point. Later in the day, our friends @Vitrue demonstrated this point by elaborating on a comment by Facebook's John Yi. If a social strategy is comprised of nothing more than cutting/pasting the same message into different social media properties, you're missing the opportunity to have an actual conversation. That's not shouting at your audience, but it does feel like an empty gesture. Walter Benjamin, perplexed by auraless Twitter messages Not to get too far afield, but 20th century cultural critic Walter Benjamin has a concept that is useful for understanding the dynamics of the empty social media gesture: Aura. In his work The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, Benjamin struggled to understand the difference he percieved between the value of a hand-made art object (a painting, wood cutting, sculpture, etc.) and a photograph. For Benjamin, aura is similar to the "soul" of an artwork--the intangible essence that is created when an artist picks up a tool and puts creative energy and effort into a work. I'll defer to Wikipedia: "He argues that the "sphere of authenticity is outside the technical" so that the original artwork is independent of the copy, yet through the act of reproduction something is taken from the original by changing its context. He also introduces the idea of the "aura" of a work and its absence in a reproduction." So make sure you put aura into your social interactions. Don't just mechanically reproduce them. Keeping aura in your interactions requires the intervention of an actual human being. That's why @NoahHorton's comment about content curation struck me as incredibly important. Maybe it's just my own prejudice, being in the content curation business myself. And it's not to totally discount machine-aided content management systems, content recommendation engines, and other tech-driven tools for building an exceptional content experience. It's just that without that human interaction--that editor who reviews the analytics and responds to user feedback--interactions over social media feel a bit empty. It is SOCIAL media, right? (We'll leave the conversation about social machines for another day). At the end of the day, experimentation is key. Just like trying to find that right joke to tell at the beginning of your presentation or that good opening like at a cocktail party, social media messages and interactions can take some trial and error. Don't be afraid to try things, tinker with incomplete ideas, abandon things that don't work, and engage in the conversation. And make sure your heart is in it, otherwise your audience can tell. The solution is actually really simple (isn’t it always once you know). Enter these values manually and it will work.” He simply entered certain values and his problem was solved. He thanked Java Champion Stephen Chin, “for a great talk at Devoxx and putting me out of my misery.” JavaFX in Java Magazine Over in the November/December 2011 issue of Java Magazine, Oracle’s Simon Ritter, well known for his creative Java inventions at JavaOne, has an article up titled “JavaFX and Swing Integration” in which he shows developers how to use the power of JavaFX to migrate Swing interfaces to JavaFX. The consensus among JavaFX experts is that JavaFX is the next step in the evolution of Java as a rich client platform. In the same issue Java Champion and JavaFX maven James Weaver has an article, “Using Transitions for Animation in JavaFX 2.0”. In addition, Oracle’s Vice President of Java Client Development, Nandini Ramani, provides the keys to unlock the mysteries of JavaFX 2.0 in her Java Magazine interview.   • Mini Theater at OTN Lounge During JavaOne

    This year, the Oracle Technology Network Lounge at JavaOne will be in the Hilton Ballroom, right in the center of theJavaOne DEMOgrounds. We'll have Java experts, community members and OTN staff to answer your questions. We've also even created a "Mini Theater" for casual demos from community members and Oracle staff. We are keeping the slots short, there will be no tests afterwards. It's your chance to talk to the experts 1 on 1. See how easy it is to turn on a lightbulb with Java and a violin.
