  • How to send an array of complex type in PHP using Soap_Client?

    - by xaguilars
    Hello I want to know how to send this array of complex data to a SOAP server (that uses .NET / IIS). <xs:complexType name="SampleStruct"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="title" type="xs:string"/> <xs:element name="description" type="xs:string"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="SampleStruct_Array"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:restriction base="soapenc:Array"> <xs:sequence/> <xs:attribute ref="soapenc:arrayType" n1:arrayType="ns1:SampleStruct[]"/> </xs:restriction> </xs:complexContent> </xs:complexType> Would this code be ok? : $data1 = new SampleStruct(); $data1->title="Hello world"; $data1->description="This is a sample description."; $data2 = new SampleStruct(); $data2->title="Hello world 2"; $data2->description="This is a sample description 2."; $client->__soapCall("sampleFunction", array( new SoapParam(new SoapVar(array($data1, $data2) , SOAP_ENC_ARRAY, "SampleStruct_Array", "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"), "theSampleFunctionParamName") )); Am I doing it ok? I'm not very familiar with Web services... Thank you

  • Creating a json array and json items with jquery?

    - by user246114
    Hi, I made a simple javascript class like this: function Horse() { this.color = 'brown'; this.speed = 'somewhat slow'; } I attached a few instances to some elements, like this: $("#horse1").data('d', new Horse()); $("#horse2").data('d', new Horse()); $("#horse3").data('d', new Horse()); now I want to create a JSON array with a JSON representation of each horse object. So I'm doing this: // How do I create an empty JSON array here?: var myJsonArray = ?; var children = $("#horses").children(); for (var i = 0, m = children.size(); i < m; i++) { var panel = children[i]; var horse = $(panel).data('h'); // And how do I create a JSON rep of my horse here? var myJsonHorse = new JsonHorse(?); // Finally, how do I add it to the json array? myJsonArray.push(myJsonHorse); } yeah my end goal is to have a single json array of all the horses after iterating over all the children - not sure if this should be done in plain javascript or in jquery? Thanks

  • Cakephp Search Plugin: DateTime Range

    - by Chris
    I am trying to search a model by dates using the CakePHP Search plugin The idea is: The user enters a date of a flight and the engine returns all flights within +- one day of that. My form: <?php echo $form->create('Flight', array( 'url' => array_merge(array('action' => 'find'), $this->params['pass']) )); echo $form->input('departure', array('div' => false, 'dateFormat' => 'DMY','timeFormat' => 'NONE')); echo $form->submit(__('Search', true), array('div' => false)); echo $form->end(); ?> My flight model: public $filterArgs = array( array('name' => 'departure', 'type' => 'expression', 'method' => 'makeRangeCondition', 'field' => 'ABS((TO_Days(Flight.departure))-( TO_Days(?))) < 2') ); The controller: public $presetVars = array( array('field' => 'departure', 'type' => 'expression') ); public function find() { $this->Prg->commonProcess(); $this->paginate['conditions'] = $this->Flight->parseCriteria($this->passedArgs); $this->set('flights', $this->paginate()); } When I try to search, the values for departure are packed in an array; Array ([departure] => Array ) And the filterArgs(...) function doesn't seem to understand this. What is the correct way to do this?

  • Sorting and Pagination does not work after I build a custom keyword search that is build using relat

    - by Roland
    I recently started to build a custom keyword search using Yii 1.1.x The search works 100%. But as soon as I sort the columns and use pagination in the admin view the search gets lost and all results are shown. So with otherwords it's not filtering so that only the search results show. Somehow it resets it. In my controller my code looks as follows $builder=Messages::model()->getCommandBuilder(); //Table1 Columns $columns1=array('0'=>'id','1'=>'to','2'=>'from','3'=>'message','4'=>'error_code','5'=>'date_send'); //Table 2 Columns $columns2=array('0'=>'username'); //building the Keywords $keywords = explode(' ',$_REQUEST['search']); $count=0; foreach($keywords as $key){ $kw[$count]=$key; ++$count; } $keywords=$kw; $condition1=$builder->createSearchCondition(Messages::model()->tableName(),$columns1,$keywords,$prefix='t.'); $condition2=$builder->createSearchCondition(Users::model()->tableName(),$columns2,$keywords); $condition = substr($condition1,0,-1) . " OR ".substr($condition2,1); $condition = str_replace('AND','OR',$condition); $dataProvider=new CActiveDataProvider('Messages', array( 'pagination'=>array( 'pageSize'=>self::PAGE_SIZE, ), 'criteria'=>array( 'with'=>'users', 'together'=>true, 'joinType'=>'LEFT JOIN', 'condition'=>$condition, ), 'sort'=>$sort, )); $this->render('admin',array( 'dataProvider'=>$dataProvider,'keywords'=>implode(' ',$keywords),'sort'=>$sort )); and my view looks like this $this->widget('zii.widgets.grid.CGridView', array( 'dataProvider'=>$dataProvider, 'columns'=>array( 'id', array( 'name'=>'user_id', 'value'=>'CHtml::encode(Users::model()->getReseller($data->user_id))', 'visible'=>Yii::app()->user->checkAccess('poweradministrator') ), 'to', 'from', 'message', /* 'date_send', */ array( 'name'=>'error_code', 'value'=>'CHtml::encode($data->status($data->error_code))', ), array( 'class'=>'CButtonColumn', 'template'=>'{view} {delete}', ), ), )); I really do not know what do do anymore since I'm terribly lost, any help will be hihsly appreciated

  • array_map applied on a function with 2 parameters

    - by mat
    I've 2 arrays ($numbers and $letters) and I want to create a new array based on a function that combines every $numbers with every $letters. The parameters of this function involes the value of both $numbers and $letters. (Note: $numbers and $letters doesn't have the same amount of values). I need something like this: $numbers = array(1,2,3,4,5,6,...); $letters = array('a','b','c','d','e',...); function myFunction($x,$y){ // $output = some code that use $x and $y return $output; }; $array_1 = array( (myFunction($numbers[0],$letters[0])), (myFunction($numbers[0],$letters[1])), myFunction($numbers[0],$letters[2]), myFunction($numbers[0],$letters[3]), etc); $array_2 = array( (myFunction($numbers[1],$letters[0])), (myFunction($numbers[1],$letters[1])), myFunction($numbers[1],$letters[2]), myFunction($numbers[1],$letters[3]), etc); $array_3 = array( (myFunction($numbers[2],$letters[0])), (myFunction($numbers[2],$letters[1])), myFunction($numbers[2],$letters[2]), myFunction($numbers[2],$letters[3]), etc); ... $array_N = array( (myFunction($numbers[N],$letters[0])), (myFunction($numbers[N],$letters[1])), myFunction($numbers[N],$letters[2]), myFunction($numbers[N],$letters[3]), etc); $array = array($array_1, $array_2, $array_3, etc.); I know that this may work, but it's a lot of code, especially if I have a many values for each array. Is there a way to get the same result with less code? I tried this, but it's not working: $array = array_map("myFunction($value, $letters)",$numbers)); Any help would be appriciated!

  • Populating an array into a TableView - Thanks in advance.

    - by tssav
    Hello Developers, View not being populated with the array. I would really appreciate if I could get some help. Thanks!! In a tableView I have the following: NSDictionary *cat = [category objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = [cat valueForKey:@"reference"]; This populates the tableView with the content of the array from an XML file. There is another array “data” that prints out the content to the debug console and I want to populate another view with this content. But I am having lot of trouble populating the next view with the data array. NSLog(@"cellForRowAtIndexPath-- Reference:%@: Verse:%@", [cat valueForKey:@"reference"], [cat valueForKey:@"data"]); The didSelectRowAtIndexPath method looks like this: Verse *vvc = [[Verse alloc] initWithNibName:@"VerseView" bundle:nil]; vvc.verses = [[category objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] valueForKey:@"verse"]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:vvc animated:YES]; [vvc release]; [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:YES]; In the cellForRowAtIndexPath of the next view I have the following: NSDictionary *cat = [verses objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = [cat valueForKey:@"data"]; What I would like is to have the “data” in a textView. I don’t know what’s wrong. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Ruby syntax error: unexpected $end, expecting keyword_end

    - by user2839246
    I am supposed to: Capitalize the first letter of string. Capitalize every word except articles (the, a, an), conjunctions (and), and prepositions (in). Capitalize i (as in "I am male."). Specify the first word of a string (I actually have no idea what this means. I'm trying to run the spec file to test other functions). Here's my code: class Book def initialize(string) title(string) end def title(string) arts_conjs_preps = %w{ a an the and but or nor for yet so although because since unless despite in to } array = string.downcase.split array.each do |word| if (word == array[0] || word == "i") then word = word.capitalize if arts_conjs_preps !include?(word) then word = word.capitalize end puts array.join(' ') end end puts Book.new("inferno") Ruby says I'm messing up at: puts Book.new("inferno") <--(right after the last line of code) I get exactly the same error message with this test code: def title(string) array = string.downcase.split array.each do |word| if word == array[0] then word = word.capitalize end array.join(' ') end puts title("dante's inferno") The only other Stack Overflow thread regarding this particular syntax error that did not suggest trailing or missing ends or .s as the root of the problem is here. The last comment recommends deleting and recreating the gemset, Which sounds scary. And I'm not sure how to do. Any thoughts? Simple solution? Resources to help? Solution class Book def initialize(string) title(string) end def title(string) arts_conjs_preps = %w{ a an the and but or nor for yet so although because since unless despite of in to } array = string.downcase.split title = array.map do |word| if (word == array[0] || word == "i") || !arts_conjs_preps.include?(word) word = word.capitalize else word end end puts title.join(' ') end end Book.new("dante's the inferno")

  • How to create C++ istringstream from a char array with null(0) characters?

    - by Morpheus
    I have a char array which contains null characters at random locations. I tried to create an iStringStream using this array (encodedData_arr) as below, I use this iStringStream to insert binary data(imagedata of Iplimage) to a MySQL database blob field(using MySQL Connector/C++'s setBlob(istream *is) ) it only stores the characters upto the first null character. Is there a way to create an iStringStream using a char array with null characters? unsigned char *encodedData_arr = new unsigned char[data_vector_uchar->size()]; // Assign the data of vector<unsigned char> to the encodedData_arr for (int i = 0; i < vec_size; ++i) { cout<< data_vector_uchar->at(i)<< " : "<< encodedData_arr[i]<<endl; } // Here the content of the encodedData_arr is same as the data_vector_uchar // So char array is initializing fine. istream *is = new istringstream((char*)encodedData_arr, istringstream::in || istringstream::binary); prepStmt_insertImage->setBlob(1, is); // Here only part of the data is stored in the database blob field (Upto the first null character)

  • Use string to store statement (or part of a statement), and then add it to the code

    - by Dean
    I use multidimensional arrays to store product attributes (well Virtuemart does, to be precise). When I tried to echo the sub-arrays value, if the sub-array did not exist PHP threw: Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array To get around this, I attempted to create a function to check on every array level if it is an actual array, and if it is empty (when trying on the whole thing at once such as: is_array($array['level1']['level2']['level3']), I got the same error if level1 or level2 are not actual arrays). This is the function ($array contains the array to check, $array_levels is an array containing the names of the sub-arrays, in the order they should apper): function check_md_array($array,$array_levels){ if(is_array($array)){ $dimension = null; //This will store the dimensions string foreach($array_levels as $level){ $dimension .= "['" . $level . "']"; //Add the current dimension to the dimensions string if(!is_array($array/* THE CONTENT OF $dimension SHOULD BE INSERTED HERE*/)){ return false; } } return true; } } How can I take the string contained in $dimensions, and insert it into the code, to be part of the statement?

  • generic binary Search in c#

    - by Pro_Zeck
    Below is my Generic Binary Search it works ok with the intgers type array it finds all the elements in it . But the Problem Arises when i use a string array to find any string data. It runs ok for the first index and last index elements but i cant find the middle elements. Stringarray = new string[] { "b", "a", "ab", "abc", "c" }; public static void BinarySearch<T>(T[] array, T searchFor, Comparer<T> comparer) { int high, low, mid; high = array.Length - 1; low = 0; if (array[0].Equals(searchFor)) Console.WriteLine("Value {0} Found At Index {1}",array[0],0); else if (array[high].Equals(searchFor)) Console.WriteLine("Value {0} Found At Index {1}", array[high], high); else { while (low <= high) { mid = (high + low) / 2; if (comparer.Compare(array[mid], searchFor) == 0) { Console.WriteLine("Value {0} Found At Index {1}", array[mid], mid); break; } else { if (comparer.Compare(searchFor, array[mid]) > 0) high = mid + 1; else low = mid + 1; } } if (low > high) { Console.WriteLine("Value Not Found In the Collection"); } } }

  • How to use XSLT to tag specific nodes with unique, sequential, increasing integer ids?

    - by ~otakuj462
    Hi, I'm trying to use XSLT to transform a document by tagging a group of XML nodes with integer ids, starting at 0, and increasing by one for each node in the group. The XML passed into the stylesheet should be echoed out, but augmented to include this extra information. Just to be clear about what I am talking about, here is how this transformation would be expressed using DOM: states = document.getElementsByTagName("state"); for( i = 0; i < states.length; i++){ states.stateNum = i; } This is very simple with DOM, but I'm having much more trouble doing this with XSLT. The current strategy I've devised has been to start with the identity transformation, then create a global variable which selects and stores all of the nodes that I wish to number. I then create a template that matches that kind of node. The idea, then, is that in the template, I would look up the matched node's position in the global variable nodelist, which would give me a unique number that I could then set as an attribute. The problem with this approach is that the position function can only be used with the context node, so something like the following is illegal: <template match="state"> <variable name="stateId" select="@id"/> <variable name="uniqueStateNum" select="$globalVariable[@id = $stateId]/position()"/> </template> The same is true for the following: <template match="state"> <variable name="stateId" select="@id" <variable name="stateNum" select="position($globalVariable[@id = $stateId])/"/> </template> In order to use position() to look up the position of an element in $globalVariable, the context node must be changed. I have found a solution, but it is highly suboptimal. Basically, in the template, I use for-each to iterate through the global variable. For-each changes the context node, so this allows me to use position() in the way I described. The problem is that this turns what would normally be an O(n) operation into an O(n^2) operation, where n is the length of the nodelist, as this require iterating through the whole list whenever the template is matched. I think that there must be a more elegant solution. Altogether, here is my current (slightly simplified) xslt stylesheet: <?xml version="1.0"?> <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:s="http://www.w3.org/2005/07/scxml" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/07/scxml" xmlns:c="http://msdl.cs.mcgill.ca/" version="1.0"> <xsl:output method="xml"/> <!-- we copy them, so that we can use their positions as identifiers --> <xsl:variable name="states" select="//s:state" /> <!-- identity transform --> <xsl:template match="@*|node()"> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="s:state"> <xsl:variable name="stateId"> <xsl:value-of select="@id"/> </xsl:variable> <xsl:copy> <xsl:apply-templates select="@*"/> <xsl:for-each select="$states"> <xsl:if test="@id = $stateId"> <xsl:attribute name="stateNum" namespace="http://msdl.cs.mcgill.ca/"> <xsl:value-of select="position()"/> </xsl:attribute> </xsl:if> </xsl:for-each> <xsl:apply-templates select="node()"/> </xsl:copy> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> I'd appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Thanks.

  • How can we find second maximum from array efficiently?

    - by Xinus
    Is it possible to find the second maximum number from an array of integers by traversing the array only once? As an example, I have a array of five integers from which I want to find second maximum number. Here is an attempt I gave in the interview: #define MIN -1 int main() { int max=MIN,second_max=MIN; int arr[6]={0,1,2,3,4,5}; for(int i=0;i<5;i++){ cout<<"::"<<arr[i]; } for(int i=0;i<5;i++){ if(arr[i]>max){ second_max=max; max=arr[i]; } } cout<<endl<<"Second Max:"<<second_max; int i; cin>>i; return 0; } The interviewer, however, came up with the test case int arr[6]={5,4,3,2,1,0};, which prevents it from going to the if condition the second time. I said to the interviewer that the only way would be to parse the array two times (two for loops). Does anybody have a better solution?

  • Strange code behaviour?

    - by goldenmean
    Hi, I have a C code in which i have a structure declaration which has an array of int[576] declared in it. For some reason, i had to remove this array from the structure, So i replaced this array with a pointer as int *ptr; declared some global array of same type, somewhere else in the code, and initialized this pointer by assigning the global array to this pointer. So i did not have to change the way i was accessing this array, from other parts of my code. But it works fine/gives desired output when i have the array declared in the structure, but it gives junk output when i declare it as a pointer in the structure and assign a global array to this pointer, as a part of the pointer initialization. All this code is being run on MS-VC 6.0/Windows setup/Intel-x86. I tried below things: 1)Suspected structure padding/alignment but could not get any leads? If at all structure alignment could be a culprit how can i proceed to narrow it down and confirm it? 2) I have made sure that in both cases the array is initialized to some default values, say 0 before its first use, and its not being used before initialization. 3)I tried using global array as well as malloc based memory for this newly declared array. Same result, junk output. Am i missing something? How can i zero down the problem. Any pointers would be helpful. Thanks, -AD.

  • Given a 2d array sorted in increasing order from left to right and top to bottom, what is the best w

    - by Phukab
    I was recently given this interview question and I'm curious what a good solution to it would be. Say I'm given a 2d array where all the numbers in the array are in increasing order from left to right and top to bottom. What is the best way to search and determine if a target number is in the array? Now, my first inclination is to utilize a binary search since my data is sorted. I can determine if a number is in a single row in O(log N) time. However, it is the 2 directions that throw me off. Another solution I could use, if I could be sure the matrix is n x n, is to start at the middle. If the middle value is less than my target, then I can be sure it is in the left square portion of the matrix from the middle. I then move diagnally and check again, reducing the size of the square that the target could potentially be in until I have honed in on the target number. Does anyone have any good ideas on solving this problem? Example array: Sorted left to right, top to bottom. 1 2 4 5 6 2 3 5 7 8 4 6 8 9 10 5 8 9 10 11

  • php:: apply backticks to first word in sentence

    - by Hailwood
    Hi guys, basically what I am trying to do is, I have an array that looks something like this: array( array( 'select' =>'first string', 'escape' => true ), array( 'select' =>'second', 'escape' => true ), array( 'select' =>'the third string', 'escape' => true ), array( 'select' =>'fourth string', 'escape' => false ), ) I am looping over it and I want to end up with this output array( array( 'select' =>'`first` string', 'escape' => true ), array( 'select' =>'`second`', 'escape' => true ), array( 'select' =>'`the` third string', 'escape' => true ), array( 'select' =>'fourth string', 'escape' => false ), ) so basic rules are backticks are only applied if escape is true backticks are only applied to the first word in a sentence if there is only one word backticks are applied to the word My plan was to use if($item['escape']) { $pos = (strpos($item['select'], ' ') === false ? strlen($item['select']) : strpos($item['select'], ' ')); $item['select'] = '`' . substr($item['select'], 0, $pos) . '`' . substr($item['select'], $pos, strlen($item['select'])); } but the $item['select'] = line seems rather long winded, is there a better way to write it?

  • How to save data of two for loops in one array?

    - by Homer_Simpson
    I have two for loops and I wanna save that data in one array. The first for loop will create 5 rectangles in the array. After that, the second for loop will create 5 rectangles and add them to the array. But something doesn't work. I get that "Index was outside the bounds of the array" error message in the last line of the code and I don't know what to change. int framewidth = texture.Width / sourceRects.Length; int frameheight = texture.Height; private void vorrück(Rectangle[] sourceRects, int framewidth, int frameheight) { int doublelenght = sourceRects.Length * 2; for (int i = 0; i < sourceRects.Length; i++) sourceRects[i] = new Rectangle(i * framewidth, 0, framewidth, frameheight); for (int normallenght = sourceRects.Length; normallenght < doublelenght; normallenght++) sourceRects[normallenght] = new Rectangle((sourceRects.Length - 1 - normallenght) * framewidth, 0, framewidth, frameheight); }

  • Seeking on a Heap, and Two Useful DMVs

    - by Paul White
    So far in this mini-series on seeks and scans, we have seen that a simple ‘seek’ operation can be much more complex than it first appears.  A seek can contain one or more seek predicates – each of which can either identify at most one row in a unique index (a singleton lookup) or a range of values (a range scan).  When looking at a query plan, we will often need to look at the details of the seek operator in the Properties window to see how many operations it is performing, and what type of operation each one is.  As you saw in the first post in this series, the number of hidden seeking operations can have an appreciable impact on performance. Measuring Seeks and Scans I mentioned in my last post that there is no way to tell from a graphical query plan whether you are seeing a singleton lookup or a range scan.  You can work it out – if you happen to know that the index is defined as unique and the seek predicate is an equality comparison, but there’s no separate property that says ‘singleton lookup’ or ‘range scan’.  This is a shame, and if I had my way, the query plan would show different icons for range scans and singleton lookups – perhaps also indicating whether the operation was one or more of those operations underneath the covers. In light of all that, you might be wondering if there is another way to measure how many seeks of either type are occurring in your system, or for a particular query.  As is often the case, the answer is yes – we can use a couple of dynamic management views (DMVs): sys.dm_db_index_usage_stats and sys.dm_db_index_operational_stats. Index Usage Stats The index usage stats DMV contains counts of index operations from the perspective of the Query Executor (QE) – the SQL Server component that is responsible for executing the query plan.  It has three columns that are of particular interest to us: user_seeks – the number of times an Index Seek operator appears in an executed plan user_scans – the number of times a Table Scan or Index Scan operator appears in an executed plan user_lookups – the number of times an RID or Key Lookup operator appears in an executed plan An operator is counted once per execution (generating an estimated plan does not affect the totals), so an Index Seek that executes 10,000 times in a single plan execution adds 1 to the count of user seeks.  Even less intuitively, an operator is also counted once per execution even if it is not executed at all.  I will show you a demonstration of each of these things later in this post. Index Operational Stats The index operational stats DMV contains counts of index and table operations from the perspective of the Storage Engine (SE).  It contains a wealth of interesting information, but the two columns of interest to us right now are: range_scan_count – the number of range scans (including unrestricted full scans) on a heap or index structure singleton_lookup_count – the number of singleton lookups in a heap or index structure This DMV counts each SE operation, so 10,000 singleton lookups will add 10,000 to the singleton lookup count column, and a table scan that is executed 5 times will add 5 to the range scan count. The Test Rig To explore the behaviour of seeks and scans in detail, we will need to create a test environment.  The scripts presented here are best run on SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition, but the majority of the tests will work just fine on SQL Server 2005.  A couple of tests use partitioning, but these will be skipped if you are not running an Enterprise-equivalent SKU.  Ok, first up we need a database: USE master; GO IF DB_ID('ScansAndSeeks') IS NOT NULL DROP DATABASE ScansAndSeeks; GO CREATE DATABASE ScansAndSeeks; GO USE ScansAndSeeks; GO ALTER DATABASE ScansAndSeeks SET ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION OFF ; ALTER DATABASE ScansAndSeeks SET AUTO_CLOSE OFF, AUTO_SHRINK OFF, AUTO_CREATE_STATISTICS OFF, AUTO_UPDATE_STATISTICS OFF, PARAMETERIZATION SIMPLE, READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT OFF, RESTRICTED_USER ; Notice that several database options are set in particular ways to ensure we get meaningful and reproducible results from the DMVs.  In particular, the options to auto-create and update statistics are disabled.  There are also three stored procedures, the first of which creates a test table (which may or may not be partitioned).  The table is pretty much the same one we used yesterday: The table has 100 rows, and both the key_col and data columns contain the same values – the integers from 1 to 100 inclusive.  The table is a heap, with a non-clustered primary key on key_col, and a non-clustered non-unique index on the data column.  The only reason I have used a heap here, rather than a clustered table, is so I can demonstrate a seek on a heap later on.  The table has an extra column (not shown because I am too lazy to update the diagram from yesterday) called padding – a CHAR(100) column that just contains 100 spaces in every row.  It’s just there to discourage SQL Server from choosing table scan over an index + RID lookup in one of the tests. The first stored procedure is called ResetTest: CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.ResetTest @Partitioned BIT = 'false' AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON ; IF OBJECT_ID(N'dbo.Example', N'U') IS NOT NULL BEGIN DROP TABLE dbo.Example; END ; -- Test table is a heap -- Non-clustered primary key on 'key_col' CREATE TABLE dbo.Example ( key_col INTEGER NOT NULL, data INTEGER NOT NULL, padding CHAR(100) NOT NULL DEFAULT SPACE(100), CONSTRAINT [PK dbo.Example key_col] PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED (key_col) ) ; IF @Partitioned = 'true' BEGIN -- Enterprise, Trial, or Developer -- required for partitioning tests IF SERVERPROPERTY('EngineEdition') = 3 BEGIN EXECUTE (' DROP TABLE dbo.Example ; IF EXISTS ( SELECT 1 FROM sys.partition_schemes WHERE name = N''PS'' ) DROP PARTITION SCHEME PS ; IF EXISTS ( SELECT 1 FROM sys.partition_functions WHERE name = N''PF'' ) DROP PARTITION FUNCTION PF ; CREATE PARTITION FUNCTION PF (INTEGER) AS RANGE RIGHT FOR VALUES (20, 40, 60, 80, 100) ; CREATE PARTITION SCHEME PS AS PARTITION PF ALL TO ([PRIMARY]) ; END; The final stored procedure, RunTest, executes a query written against the example table: CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.RunTest @SQL VARCHAR(8000), @Partitioned BIT = 'false' AS BEGIN -- No execution plan yet SET STATISTICS XML OFF ; -- Reset the test environment EXECUTE dbo.ResetTest @Partitioned ; -- Previous call will throw an error if a partitioned -- test was requested, but SKU does not support it IF @@ERROR = 0 BEGIN -- IO statistics and plan on SET STATISTICS XML, IO ON ; -- Test statement EXECUTE (@SQL) ; -- Plan and IO statistics off SET STATISTICS XML, IO OFF ; EXECUTE dbo.ShowStats @Partitioned; END; END; The Tests The first test is a simple scan of the heap table: EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT * FROM Example'; The top result set comes from the Index Usage Stats DMV, so it is the Query Executor’s (QE) view.  The lower result is from Index Operational Stats, which shows statistics derived from the actions taken by the Storage Engine (SE).  We see that QE performed 1 scan operation on the heap, and SE performed a single range scan.  Let’s try a single-value equality seek on a unique index next: EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT key_col FROM Example WHERE key_col = 32'; This time we see a single seek on the non-clustered primary key from QE, and one singleton lookup on the same index by the SE.  Now for a single-value seek on the non-unique non-clustered index: EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT data FROM Example WHERE data = 32'; QE shows a single seek on the non-clustered non-unique index, but SE shows a single range scan on that index – not the singleton lookup we saw in the previous test.  That makes sense because we know that only a single-value seek into a unique index is a singleton seek.  A single-value seek into a non-unique index might retrieve any number of rows, if you think about it.  The next query is equivalent to the IN list example seen in the first post in this series, but it is written using OR (just for variety, you understand): EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT data FROM Example WHERE data = 32 OR data = 33'; The plan looks the same, and there’s no difference in the stats recorded by QE, but the SE shows two range scans.  Again, these are range scans because we are looking for two values in the data column, which is covered by a non-unique index.  I’ve added a snippet from the Properties window to show that the query plan does show two seek predicates, not just one.  Now let’s rewrite the query using BETWEEN: EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT data FROM Example WHERE data BETWEEN 32 AND 33'; Notice the seek operator only has one predicate now – it’s just a single range scan from 32 to 33 in the index – as the SE output shows.  For the next test, we will look up four values in the key_col column: EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT key_col FROM Example WHERE key_col IN (2,4,6,8)'; Just a single seek on the PK from the Query Executor, but four singleton lookups reported by the Storage Engine – and four seek predicates in the Properties window.  On to a more complex example: EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT * FROM Example WITH (INDEX([PK dbo.Example key_col])) WHERE key_col BETWEEN 1 AND 8'; This time we are forcing use of the non-clustered primary key to return eight rows.  The index is not covering for this query, so the query plan includes an RID lookup into the heap to fetch the data and padding columns.  The QE reports a seek on the PK and a lookup on the heap.  The SE reports a single range scan on the PK (to find key_col values between 1 and 8), and eight singleton lookups on the heap.  Remember that a bookmark lookup (RID or Key) is a seek to a single value in a ‘unique index’ – it finds a row in the heap or cluster from a unique RID or clustering key – so that’s why lookups are always singleton lookups, not range scans. Our next example shows what happens when a query plan operator is not executed at all: EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT key_col FROM Example WHERE key_col = 8 AND @@TRANCOUNT < 0'; The Filter has a start-up predicate which is always false (if your @@TRANCOUNT is less than zero, call CSS immediately).  The index seek is never executed, but QE still records a single seek against the PK because the operator appears once in an executed plan.  The SE output shows no activity at all.  This next example is 2008 and above only, I’m afraid: EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT * FROM Example WHERE key_col BETWEEN 1 AND 30', @Partitioned = 'true'; This is the first example to use a partitioned table.  QE reports a single seek on the heap (yes – a seek on a heap), and the SE reports two range scans on the heap.  SQL Server knows (from the partitioning definition) that it only needs to look at partitions 1 and 2 to find all the rows where key_col is between 1 and 30 – the engine seeks to find the two partitions, and performs a range scan seek on each partition. The final example for today is another seek on a heap – try to work out the output of the query before running it! EXECUTE dbo.RunTest @SQL = 'SELECT TOP (2) WITH TIES * FROM Example WHERE key_col BETWEEN 1 AND 50 ORDER BY $PARTITION.PF(key_col) DESC', @Partitioned = 'true'; Notice the lack of an explicit Sort operator in the query plan to enforce the ORDER BY clause, and the backward range scan. © 2011 Paul White email: [email protected] twitter: @SQL_Kiwi

  • SQL Server: One 12-drive RAID-10 array or 2 arrays of 8-drives and 4-drives

    - by ben
    Setting up a box for SQL Server 2008, which would give the best performance (heavy OLTP)? The more drives in a RAID-10 array the better performance, but will losing 4 drives to dedicate them to the transaction logs give us more performance. 12-drives in RAID-10 plus one hot spare. OR 8-drives in RAID-10 for database and 4-drives RAID-10 for transaction logs plus 2 hot spares (one for each array). We have 14-drive slots to work with and it's an older PowerVault that doesn't support global hot spares.

  • How to write in a <array><dict> structure with defaults write?

    - by Hedge
    I've got a .plist-file with a structure like this: <plist version="1.0"> <array> <dict> <key>BundleIsVersionChecked</key> <false/> <key>BundleIsRelocatable</key> <false/> <key>BundleHasStrictIdentifier</key> <false/> <key>RootRelativeBundlePath</key> <string>value</string> </dict> </array> </plist> I want to add or edit the RootRelativeBundlePath-key with the defaults write command. Another possibility would be writing the whole plist-file but it has to be the same exact structure. How can I do this?

  • ASUS P5B Plus motherboard - no any drives found - how to restore RAID array?

    - by Moha
    We have a small server machine with an ASUS P5B Plus motherboard and 4 SATA HDDs. The HDDs were configured in a RAID10 array. Up until now, everything worked fine, but now the system doesn't recognize the drives. BIOS is set to RAID, jMicron controller is set to RAID, yet I can't see any of the drives in the BIOS setup, and jMicron BIOS tells me "no any drives found" The HDDs all spin up, I hear no clicking sounds or anything that would suggest HDD error. I did a search on this problem and replaced the SATA cables as suggested, but nothing's changed. What I have in mind is checking the CMOS battery and resetting the BIOS to use IDE mode, but I don't know if it will ruin the RAID system on the HDDs. It is not a critical server and there's only one database running on it (which I have backup of), but I don't want to setup the server from scratch if not necessary. What should I try to restore the RAID array and put the server back to working order?

  • How do you expand a raid disk array in a dell 2850?

    - by johnny
    Hi, I have a Dell 2850 and I want to install Windows 2008 Server. Problem is that my C drive only has 16GB of space. The requirements say I need at least 20. I have an open bay for a drive. If I put in another drive, how can I add that to the array and them make it only for the C drive? what do I do? Thank you. edit: I don't want to remove any drives. I just want to add a new one to the existing array. Can I do that and make sure that new drive is for the logical C drive?

  • Is it reasonable to make a RAID-1 array with a ram disk and a physical disk to maximize read performance and protect data?

    - by Petr Pudlák
    In one of the answers on SO (I forgot which one) I've seen a suggestion to make a RAID-1 array composed of a RAM disk and a physical partition. By adding the physical partition with --write-mostly and enabling --write-behind the system should read everything instantly from the RAM disk but still save all data to the physical partition so that the data are preserved and the RAID array can be assembled again after reboot. Is such a setup reasonable? Will it perform any better in some scenario than having just the physical partition and perhaps tweaking the kernel to favor disk cache (swappiness and vfs_cache_pressure)?

  • CakePHP Test Fixtures Drop My Tables Permanently After Running A Test Case

    - by Frank
    I'm not sure what I've done wrong in my CakePHP unit test configuration. Every time I run a test case, the model tables associated with my fixtures are missing form my test database. After running an individual test case I have to re-import my database tables using phpMyAdmin. Here are the relevant files: This is the class I'm trying to test comment.php. This table is dropped after the test. App::import('Sanitize'); class Comment extends AppModel{ public $name = 'Comment'; public $actsAs = array('Tree'); public $belongsTo = array('User' => array('fields'=>array('id', 'username'))); public $validate = array( 'text' = array( 'rule' =array('between', 1, 4000), 'required' ='true', 'allowEmpty'='false', 'message' = "You can't leave your comment text empty!") ); database.php class DATABASE_CONFIG { var $default = array( 'driver' = 'mysql', 'persistent' = false, 'host' = 'project.db', 'login' = 'projectman', 'password' = 'projectpassword', 'database' = 'projectdb', 'prefix' = '' ); var $test = array( 'driver' = 'mysql', 'persistent' = false, 'host' = 'project.db', 'login' = 'projectman', 'password' = 'projectpassword', 'database' = 'testprojectdb', 'prefix' = '' ); } My comment.test.php file. This is the table that keeps getting dropped. <?php App::import('Model', 'Comment'); class CommentTestCase extends CakeTestCase { public $fixtures = array('app.comment', 'app.user'); function start(){ $this-Comment =& ClassRegistry::init('Comment'); $this-Comment-useDbConfig = 'test_suite'; } This is my comment_fixture.php class: <?php class CommentFixture extends CakeTestFixture { var $name = "Comment"; var $import = 'Comment'; } And just in case, here is a typical test method in the CommentTestCase class function testMsgNotificationUserComment(){ $user_id = '1'; $submission_id = '1'; $parent_id = $this-Comment-commentOnModel('Submission', $submission_id, '0', $user_id, "Says: A"); $other_user_id = '2'; $msg_id = $this-Comment-commentOnModel('Submission', $submission_id, $parent_id, $other_user_id, "Says: B"); $expected = array(array('Comment'=array('id'=$msg_id, 'text'="Says: B", 'submission_id'=$submission_id, 'topic_id'='0', 'ack'='0'))); $result = $this-Comment-getMessages($user_id); $this-assertEqual($result, $expected); } I've been dealing with this for a day now and I'm starting to be put off by CakePHP's unit testing. In addition to this issue -- Servral times now I've had data inserted into by 'default' database configuration after running tests! What's going on with my configuration?!

  • BASH, multiple arrays and a loop.

    - by S1syphus
    At work, we 7 or 8 hardrives we dispatch over the country, each have unique labels which are not sequential. Ideally drives are plugged in our desktop, then gets folders from the server that correspond to the drive name. Sometimes, only one hard drive gets plugged in sometimes multiples, possibly in the future more will be added. Each is mounts to /Volumes/ and it's identifier; so for example /Volumes/f00, where f00 is the identifier. What I want to happen, scan volumes see if any any of the drives are plugged in, then checks the server to see if the folder exists, if ir does copy folder and recursive folders. Here is what I have so far, it checks if the drive exists in Volumes: #!/bin/sh #Declare drives in the array ARRAY=( foo bar long ) #Get the drives from the array DRIVES=${#ARRAY[@]} #Define base dir to check BaseDir="/Volumes" #Define shared server fold on local mount points #I plan to use AFP eventually, but for the sake of ease #using a local mount. ServerMount="BigBlue" #Define folder name for where files are to come from Dispatch="File-Dispatch" dir="$BaseDir/${ARRAY[${i}]}" #Loop through each item in the array and check if exists on /Volumes for (( i=0;i<$DRIVES;i++)); do dir="$BaseDir/${ARRAY[${i}]}" if [ -d "$dir" ]; then echo "$dir exists, you win." else echo "$dir is not attached." fi done What I can't figure out how to do, is how to check the volumes for the server while looping through the harddrive mount points. So I could do something like: #!/bin/sh #Declare drives, and folder location in arrays ARRAY=( foo bar long ) ARRAY1=($(ls ""$BaseDir"/"$ServerMount"/"$Dispatch"")) #Get the drives from the array DRIVES=${#ARRAY[@]} SERVERFOLDER=${#ARRAY1[@]} #Define base dir to check BaseDir="/Volumes" #Define shared server fold on local mount points ServerMount="BigBlue #Define folder name for where files are to come from Dispatch="File-Dispatch" dir="$BaseDir/${ARRAY[${i}]}" #List the contents from server directory into array ARRAY1=($(ls ""$BaseDir"/"$ServerMount"/"$Dispatch"")) echo ${list[@]} for (( i=0;i<$DRIVES;i++)); (( i=0;i<$SERVERFOLDER;i++)); do dir="$BaseDir/${ARRAY[${i}]}" ser="${ARRAY1[${i}]}" if [ "$dir" =~ "$sir" ]; then cp "$sir" "$dir" else echo "$dir is not attached." fi done I know, that is pretty wrong... well very, but I hope it gives you the idea of what I am trying to achieve. Any ideas or suggestions?
