  • ASP.NET MVC 2 JQuery POST not displaying the model state errors

    - by Oshan
Hello, I have been using asp.net mvc for a bit (but I'm still a beginer). I want to have the ability to update two views as a result of a jquery postback. Basically I have a list and a details view. The details view is presented using a jquery popup (using jquery-UI popup). I only want to update the list if the details save is successful (i.e. there are no validation errors on the details view). However, if there are any validation errros in the details view, I want to update the details view so that the user sees the validation errors. so I thought in my controller, I return a JsonResult instead of a View. [HttpPost] public ActionResult SavePersonInfo(Person p) { if(ModelState.Valid) { return View("PersonList"); } return Json({Error = true, View = PartialView("PersonDetails", p)}); } As you can see if there are no errors I return the person list view, but if there are any validation errors, I have return the details view. The reason that I'm returning a JsonResult is I need to tell my view there is an error so that the view (jquery) knows which section to update (as in whether to update the person list 'div' or the popup dialog 'div'). So, in my view, the jquery is as follows (please assume that there is a form for entering in the person details and "SubmitPersonForm();" function is called upon clicking on the "Save" button): <script type="text/javascript> $('#btnSave').click(function (event) { onBegin(); $.ajax( { type: "POST", url: "/Person/Save", data: $('form').serialize(), success: function (result) { if(result.Error) { $('#dvDetails').html($(result).View)); } else { $('#dvPersonList').html($result); } } }); }); </script> So the problem that I have now, is that when there is a validation error, I do see the correct, 'div' being updated, but I lose the asp.net mvc validation messages. I do not see any validation errors in red, as if ASP.NET MVC is completely ignored them. However, my ModelState does have those errros, just not displayed in the details view. I do have valication summary and Html.ValidationFor(m = ...) statements put in my details view. Could someone tell me why I'm not seeing the validation errors? although I'm using a JSonResult, I do use the right property which is a valid view when I render the 'dvDetails'. Am I doing something that I'm not suppose to in asp.net mvc? Btw I'm using asp.net mvc2 RC with Visual Studio 2010 RC. Thank you.

  • PopulateOnDemand does not work on data bound ASP.Net TreeView

    - by Shay Friedman
Hi, I have a TreeView that is bound to a XmlDataSource control. I've added some TreeNodeBinding elements to define how I want the XML data to be shown. I have also added PopulateOnDemand=true to these TreeNodeBindings. However, doing so didn't change a thing and the entire XML tree is displayed. Moreover, the TreeNodePopulate event is not fired on node expand as well. Important information: I'm using ASP.NET 4. This is an example that reproduces the problem (very straight forward): <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" %> <script type="text/C#" runat="server"> protected void TreeView1_TreeNodePopulate(Object sender, TreeNodeEventArgs e) { // This method is never called... } </script> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:TreeView ID="TreeView1" runat="server" DataSourceID="XmlDataSource1" OnTreeNodePopulate="TreeView1_TreeNodePopulate" ExpandDepth="0"> <DataBindings> <asp:TreeNodeBinding DataMember="#" TextField="#" ValueField="#" PopulateOnDemand="true" /> </DataBindings> </asp:TreeView> <asp:XmlDataSource ID="XmlDataSource1" runat="server" DataFile="Sample.xml" /> </div> </form> </body> </html> The Sample.xml can be any xml file you want, it doesn't really matter. I tried to put a breakpoint within the TreeView1_TreeNodePopulate method and it was never hit. I also tried to: Set a TreeNodeBinding for each possible data member with PopulateOnDemand="true". Via code, go through all tree nodes and set their PopulateOnDemand property to true. Nothing worked. The only way the populate-on-demand thing worked was when I added nodes manually to the nodes instead of binding it to a data source. What am I doing wrong?

  • IIS7 - 401.3 Error

    - by Echilon
I'm trying to get a site working on IIS7 with classic ASP and having problems. I've created a directory and added both Network Service and IIS_IUSRS with full control. I've also changed the anonymous authentication to the application pool identity, but still no joy. I really have no idea what to try next.

  • JQuery in ASP.NET - Form Validation Issue

    - by user1026288
It's not working at all and I'm not sure why. Ideally I'd like to have all the errors pop up in a modal dialog box. But right now I can't even get it to work normally. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. • ASP.net: Radio Button Not Maintaining Selection After Postback, Inside DIV/Thickbox

    - by jlrolin
    I have a set of radio buttons inside a hidden DIV. <div id="reports" style="display:none;"> <center> <br /> <table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td class="label"> Report Type::&nbsp; </td> <td class="value"> <asp:RadioButton ID="rbReportTypeCust" runat="server" Text="By Customer" Enabled="True" Checked="True" GroupName="rbType" />&nbsp;<asp:RadioButton ID="rbReportTypeProg" runat="server" Text="By Program" Enabled="True" GroupName="rbType" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="label"> Customer:&nbsp; </td> <td class="value"> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCustomer" runat="server" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="label"> Program Group::&nbsp; </td> <td class="value"> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlProgramGroups" runat="server" /> </td> </tr> </table> <br /> <asp:Button ID="btnSubmit" runat="server" Text="Submit" OnClientClick="doPostBack(this);" /> </center> </div> The DIV is displayed using Thickbox as a modal popup. The doPostback javascript function posts the button click back, and hits btnSubmit_Click where a report is then generated. If I see if a radio button is checked, it's always rbReportTypeCust.checked = True, never the rbReportTypeProg.checked = True even if I click it. Any suggestions?

  • asp.net web forms best practice to retrieve dynamic server control values

    - by Andrew Florko
I populate web form with dynamic list of exams from database. I want user to enter examination marks for each exam. There is list of exam titles and textbox near each title. I create list with repeater control: <asp:Repeater ID="rptExams" runat="server" onitemdatabound="rptExams_ItemDataBound" > <ItemTemplate> <tr> <td> <asp:Literal runat="server" ID="ltTitle"/> </td> <td> <asp:HiddenField runat="server" ID="hfId"/> <asp:Textbox runat="server" ID="tbMark"/> </td> </tr> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> And bind data to repeater on page_init: class Exam { public int Id { get; set;} public string Title { get; set;} } ... // this list is retrieved from database actually Exam[] Exams = new Exam[] { new Exam { Id = 1, Title = "Math"}, new Exam { Id = 2, Title = "History"} }; ... protected void Page_Init(object sender, EventArgs e) { rptExams.DataSource = Exams; rptExams.DataBind(); } So far so good. Then I have to retrieve data on postback. I have two ways but both of them looks ugly. Idea is to store dynamically created databounded controls on ItemDataBoundEvent in Page_Init stage, and process their values in Page_Load stage. It looks like this: private Dictionary<HiddenField, TextBox> Id2Mark = new Dictionary<HiddenField, TextBox>(); protected void rptExams_ItemDataBound(object sender, RepeaterItemEventArgs e) { ... if (IsPostBack) { var tbMark = (TextBox)e.Item.FindControl("tbMark"); var hfId = (HiddenField)e.Item.FindControl("hfId"); // store dynamically created controls Id2Mark.Add(hfId, tbMark); } ... } protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (IsPostBack) { foreach (var pair in Id2Mark) { int examId = Int32.Parse(pair.Key.Value); string mark = pair.Value.Text; // PROCESS } ... I'm completely sure there is a better way to retrieve data from dynamically created controls. Thank you in advance!

  • Restricting access to records. Is claim-based permissions a good idea.

    - by Vitalik
in .net Claim-based identity framework If i wanted to restrict users to do an operation (view or edit) on let's say an account, a particular account #123456.(i am talking about business entity, like a bank account.) Is it a good idea to create a claim for each account they can view or edit? Any disadvantages of having a lot of claims in a set? a system admin might have access to all accounts in the system thus creating hundreds of claims (maybe more than one for each account)

  • Getting the value from asp:LinkButton's CommandArgument attribute using jquery/javascript

    - by LobalOrning
    I need to get the value of the CommandArgument attribute of a LinkButton, in an asp:Repeater. I have an asp:Repeater with 2 LinkButtons whose CommandArgument I set to a value: <ItemTemplate> <tr class="odd"> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "batch_id")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "productId")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "serial_number")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "activation_card_number")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "transaction_amount","{0:C}")%></td> <td><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "response_dt", "{0:M/d/yyyy HH:mm:ss}")%></td> <td style="text-align:center;"><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "resp_process_msg")%></td> <td style="text-align:center;"><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "resp_response_code")%></td> <td style="text-align:center;"><asp:LinkButton ID="lnkBtnRestageAdd" CommandName="Add" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("activation_card_number")%>' runat="server" Text="stage" class="add" OnClientClick="return false;" /></td> <td style="text-align:center;"><asp:LinkButton ID="lnkBtnRestageMinus" CommandName="Subtract" CommandArgument='<%#Eval("activation_card_number")%>' runat="server" Text="stage" class="minus" OnClientClick="return false;" /></td> </tr> </ItemTemplate> I have suppressed the PostBack with OnClientClick="return false;" so that I can pop a jQuery dialog modal when the link buttons get clicked: if (btnAdd != null) { $(".add").click(function() { $("#<%=divDialogAdd.ClientID %>").removeAttr("style"); $("#<%=divDialogAdd.ClientID %>").dialog("open"); }); } In the modal I have 2 other asp:LinkButtons, and when the 'Yes' button is clicked I do the postback like so: yesBtn.click(function() { setTimeout('__doPostBack(\'btnAdd\',\'\')', 0); //need to add a param }); What I need to do, is somehow grab the CommandArgument value from the LinkButton in the Repeater, so that I can pass that as a parametere or assign it to a hidden field. I have tried jQuery's attr(), but that only works when the attribute was set using that function as well. How can I get this value, or what other way can I go about this?

  • "Server Unavailable" and removed permissions on .NET sites after Windows Update [closed]

    - by andrewcameron
Our company has five almost identical Windows 2003 servers with the same host, and all but one performed an automatic Windows Update last night without issue. The one that had problems, of course, was the one which hosts the majority of our sites. What the update appeared to do was cause the NETWORK user to stop having access to the .NET Framework 2.0 files, as the event log was complaining about not being able to open System.Web. This resulted in every .NET site on the server returning "Server Unavailable" as the App Domains failed to be initialise. I ran aspnet_regiis which didn't appear to fix the problem, so I ran FileMon which revealed that nobody but the Administrators group had access to any files in any of the website folders! After resetting the permissions, things appear to be fine. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what could have caused this to go wrong? As I say, the four other servers updated without a problem. Are there any known issues involved with any of the following updates? My major suspect at the moment is the 3.5 update as all of the sites on the server are running in 3.5. Windows Server 2003 Update Rollup for ActiveX Killbits for Windows Server 2003 (KB960715) Windows Server 2003 Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Server 2003 (KB960714) Windows Server 2003 Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB959209) x86 Windows Server 2003 Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB958687) Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

  • how to display user name in login name control

    - by user569285
I have a master page that holds the loginview content that appears on all subsequent pages based on the master page. i have a username control also nested in the loginview to display the name of the user when they are logged in. the code for the loginview from the master page is displayed as follows: <div class="loginView"> <asp:LoginView ID="MasterLoginView" runat="server"> <LoggedInTemplate> Welcome <span class="bold"><asp:LoginName ID="HeadLoginName" runat="server" /> <asp:Label ID="userNameLabel" runat="server" Text="Label"></asp:Label></span>! [ <asp:LoginStatus ID="HeadLoginStatus" runat="server" LogoutAction="Redirect" LogoutText="Log Out" LogoutPageUrl="~/Logout.aspx"/> ] <%--Welcome: <span class="bold"><asp:LoginName ID="MasterLoginName" runat="server" /> </span>!--%> </LoggedInTemplate> <AnonymousTemplate> Welcome: Guest [ <a href="~/Account/Login.aspx" ID="HeadLoginStatus" runat="server">Log In</a> ] </AnonymousTemplate> </asp:LoginView> <%--&nbsp;&nbsp; [&nbsp;<asp:LoginStatus ID="MasterLoginStatus" runat="server" LogoutAction="Redirect" LogoutPageUrl="~/Logout.aspx" />&nbsp;]&nbsp;&nbsp;--%> </div> Since VS2010 launches with a default login page in the accounts folder, i didnt think it necessary to create a separate log in page, so i just used the same log in page. please find the code for the login control below: <asp:Login ID="LoginUser" runat="server" EnableViewState="false" RenderOuterTable="false"> <LayoutTemplate> <span class="failureNotification"> <asp:Literal ID="FailureText" runat="server"></asp:Literal> </span> <asp:ValidationSummary ID="LoginUserValidationSummary" runat="server" CssClass="failureNotification" ValidationGroup="LoginUserValidationGroup"/> <div class="accountInfo"> <fieldset class="login"> <legend style="text-align:left; font-size:1.2em; color:White;">Account Information</legend> <p style="text-align:left; font-size:1.2em; color:White;"> <asp:Label ID="UserNameLabel" runat="server" AssociatedControlID="UserName">User ID:</asp:Label> <asp:TextBox ID="UserName" runat="server" CssClass="textEntry"></asp:TextBox> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="UserNameRequired" runat="server" ControlToValidate="UserName" CssClass="failureNotification" ErrorMessage="User ID is required." However, the login view does not display the users name. i actually cant figure out how to pass the users name that i had picked from the database to the login name control to be displayed. taking a close look i also noticed the logout text that should be displayed after successful log in does not show. that leaves me wondering if the loggedin template control on the masterpage even fires at all or its still the anonymous template control that keeps displaying.? How do i get this to work as expected? Please help....

  • Can't run ASP.NET MVC 2 web app on IIS 7.5

    - by Portman
I'm trying to run an ASP.NET MVC 2 web application under IIS on Windows 7, but I get a 403.14 error. Here are the steps to reproduce: Open Visual Studio 2010 Create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 project called MvcApplication1 Shift+F5 to run the app. You should see http://localhost:{random_port}/ and the page will render correctly. Click on MvcApplication1, and select "Properties". Go to the "Web" section. Select "Use Local IIS Web server" and create a virtual directory. Save. Shift+F5 to run the app. You should see http://localhost/MvcApplication1/ and an IIS error HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.. It's clear that for whatever reason, ASP.NET routing is not working correctly. Things I've already thought of and tried: Verified that all IIS features are enabled in "Turn Windows features on or off". Verified that the default website is configured to use .NET 4.0 Reassigned ASP.NET v4 scripmaps via aspnet_regiis -i in the v4.0.30319 directory. Here's the most amazing part - this is on a just-built machine. New copy of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, clean install of Visual Studio 2010 Premium, no other websites and no other work performed. Anything else I can try?

  • ASP.NET AJAX Toolkit - CalendarExtender is reset on Postback

    - by user70192
    Hello, I have an ASP.NET page that has two input elements: A TextBox that is ReadOnly. This TextBox is the TargetControl of a CalendarExtender A DropDownList with AutoPostBack=true Here is the code: <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr><td colspan="2">Date:</td></tr> <tr><td colspan="2"> <asp:TextBox ID="dateTextBox" runat="server" ReadOnly="true" /> <ajax:CalendarExtender ID="datePicker" runat="server" Format="MM/dd/yyyy" OnLoad="datePicker_Load" TargetControlID="dateTextBox" /> </td></tr> <tr><td colspan="2">Select an Option:</td></tr> <tr> <td>Name:&nbsp;</td> <td><asp:DropDownList ID="optionsDropDownList" runat="server" AutoPostBack="true" OnLoad="optionsDropDownList_Load" OnSelectedIndexChanged="optionsDropDownList_SelectedIndexChanged" DataTextField="Name" DataValueField="ID" /> </td></tr> <tr><td><asp:Button ID="saveButton" runat="server" Text="Save" OnClick="saveButton_Click" /></td></tr> </table> When the DropDownList posts back, the date selected by the user with the datePicker is reset to the current date. In addition, if I look at the Text property of dateTextBox, it is equal to string.Empty. How do I preserve the date that the user selected on a PostBack?

  • SharePoint Webpart and ASP.NET User Control

    - by tbischel
I am developing SharePoint Web Parts for MOSS 2007 on Visual Studio 2008. Up until now, I've been adding all my controls by hand to the code behind... but an earlier post suggested I could use the designer to create an ASP.NET User Control, then add it to the webpart, and everything is happy... See figure 5 for an example. However, I can't seem to add a new ASP.NET User Control to my MOSS WebPart project, the template just doesn't appear. If I create a WebApplication and make my User Control in there, I can't see any SharePoint templates to add to the project. Finally, I tried copying a simple aspx file and its code behind to my webpart directly, and adding them as an "existing component"... but now the designer won't recognize the aspx file. Next, I'd probably try adding two projects to my solution, and just referencing any dll's from the ASP.NET application... So how do I get an ASP control into my SharePoint WebPart project so that I can use the Visual Studio designer?

  • Intermittent PolicyException: Execution permission cannot be acquired.

    - by Aaron Maenpaa
We are intermittently seeing the following exception shortly after an App Pool recycle in an ASP.NET application: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Failed to grant permission to execute. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131418) ---> System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Failed to grant permission to execute. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131418) File name: 'Microsoft.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' ---> System.Security.Policy.PolicyException: Execution permission cannot be acquired. at System.Security.SecurityManager.ResolvePolicy(Evidence evidence, PermissionSet reqdPset, PermissionSet optPset, PermissionSet denyPset, PermissionSet& denied, Boolean checkExecutionPermission) at System.Security.SecurityManager.ResolvePolicy(Evidence evidence, PermissionSet reqdPset, PermissionSet optPset, PermissionSet denyPset, PermissionSet& denied, Int32& securitySpecialFlags, Boolean checkExecutionPermission) at System.Reflection.Assembly._nLoad(AssemblyName fileName, String codeBase, Evidence assemblySecurity, Assembly locationHint, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean throwOnFileNotFound, Boolean forIntrospection) at System.Reflection.Assembly.InternalLoad(AssemblyName assemblyRef, Evidence assemblySecurity, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean forIntrospection) at System.Reflection.Assembly.InternalLoad(String assemblyString, Evidence assemblySecurity, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean forIntrospection) at System.Reflection.Assembly.Load(String assemblyString) at System.Web.Configuration.CompilationSection.LoadAssemblyHelper(String assemblyName, Boolean starDirective) The specific DLL that fails to load varies from incident to incident, but is always one referenced by the main assembly. We're running on ASP.NET 3.5 on Windows Server 2008. This seems to happen in batches affecting some but not all of sites on the same App Pool. We have a large number of sites all running the same code. Once a site has failed to load a DLL it throws up a Yellow Screen of Death until the next App Pool recycle. We haven't been able to reproduce this behavior and the sites seem to work fine for days or weeks at a time (and many App Pool recycles) before failing. Has anybody else seen similar behavior? Update: We've tried reproducing the failure by setting up a few hundred sites and writing a script to hit them repeatedly while recycling the App Pool once every couple of minutes and were unable to accomplish much other than loading down the server's CPU for a few days straight. We then tried messing (locking one of the DLLs, changing the file permissions) with the copies of the DLLs that ASP.NET makes and managed to reproduce similar behavior but not the same exception. Does anybody have any ideas on how to adjust the security policy to get it to throw a System.Security.Policy.PolicyException: Execution permission cannot be acquired. when loading a specific DLL?

  • ASP.Net: Adding client side onClick to a HyperlinkField in GridView

    - by Nir
I have an existing GridView which contains the field "partner name". It is sortable by partner name. Now I need to change the Partner Name field and in some condition make it clickable and alert() something. The existing code is: <asp:GridView ID="gridViewAdjustments" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="false" AllowSorting="True" OnSorting="gridView_Sorting" OnRowDataBound="OnRowDataBoundAdjustments" EnableViewState="true"> <asp:BoundField DataField="PartnerName" HeaderText="Name" SortExpression="PartnerName"/> I've added the column: <asp:hyperlinkfield datatextfield="PartnerName" SortExpression="PartnerName" headertext="Name" ItemStyle-CssClass="text2"/> which enables me to control the CSS and sort. However, I can't find how to add a client side javascript function to it. I found that adding : <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Edit"> <ItemTemplate> <a id="lnk" runat="server">Edit</a> enable me to access "lnk" by id and add to its attributes. However, I lose the Sort ability. What's the correct solution in this case? Thanks.

  • Retrieving varbinary output from a query in sql server into classic ASP

    - by user303526
Hi, I'm trying to retrieve a varbinary output value from a query running on SQL Server 2005 into Classic ASP. The ASP execution just fails when it comes to part of code that is simply taking a varbinary output into a string. So I guess we gotta handle it some other way. Actually, I'm trying to set (sp_setapprole) and unset (sp_unsetapprole) application roles for a database connection. First I'd set the approle, then I'd run my required queries and finally unset the approle. During unsetting is when I need the cookie (varbinary) value in my ASP code so that I can create a query like 'exec sp_unsetapprole @cookie'. Well at this stage, I don't have the cookie (varbinary) value. The reason I'm doing this is I used to get 'sp_setapprole was not invoked correctly' error when trying to set app roles. I've disabled pooling by appending 'OLE DB Services = -2;Pooling=False' into my connection string. I know pooling helps performance wise but here I'm facing big problems. Please help me out to retrieve a varbinary value into an classic ASP file or suggest a way to set & unset app roles. Either way solutions are appreciated. Thanks, Nandagopal
