  • Sorting Multidimensional Array with Javascript: Integers

    - by tkm256
I have a 2D array called "results." Each "row" array in results contains both string and integer values. I'm using this script to sort the array by any "column" on an onclick event: function sort_array(results, column, direction) { var sorted_results = results.sort(value); function value(a,b) { a = a[column]; b = b[column]; return a == b ? 0 : (a < b ? -1*direction : 1*direction) } } This works fine for the columns with strings. But it treats the columns of integers like strings instead of numbers. For example, the values 15, 1000, 200, 97 would be sorted 1000, 15, 200, 97 if "ascending" or 97, 200, 15, 1000 "descending." I've double-checked the typeof the integer values, and the script knows they're numbers. How can I get it to treat them as such?

  • Javascript & jquery : Unable to increment within a form

    - by Daniyal
I got a simple increment function like this: $(function(){ $("#inc").click(function(){ var value = parseInt($(":text[name='ice_id']").val()) + 1; $(":text[name='ice_id']").val(value); }); $("#dec").click(function(){ var value = parseInt($(":text[name='ice_id']").val()) - 1; $(":text[name='ice_id']").val(value); }); }); the ice_id text field is embedded within a form <form id="masterSubmit" name="masterSubmit" action="" method="post"> <td><input id="ice_id" type="text" name="ice_id" size="16" maxlength="15"></td> </form> When I try now to increment , it successfully increments a number, but shows the following weird behavior: It 'refreshes' the site, so that the content of the text field is gone. This behavior disappears, if I comment out the form tags ...unfortunately the form tags are required for an AJAX-submit. Are there any ways to avoid this problem? Thanks in advance for any hints and best regards Daniyal

  • javascript multidimensional array?

    - by megapool020
Hi there, I hope I can make myself clear in English and in what I want to create. I first start with what I want. I want to make a IBANcalculator that can generate 1-n IBANnumbers and also validate a given IBANnumber. IBANnumbers are used in many countries for payment and the tool I want to make can be used to generate the numbers for testing purpose. On wikipedia (Dutch site) I found a list with countries and their way of defining the IBANnumber. What I want to do it to make a kind of an array that holds all the countries with their name, the code, there IBANlength, the bankingformat and the account format. The array needs to be used to: Generate a select list (for selecting a country) used to check part for generating numbers used to check part for validating number I don't know if an array is the best way, but that's so far the most knowledge I have. I allready made a table like this that holds the info (this table isn't used anyware, but it was a good way for me to show you what I have in mind about how the structure is): <table> <tr> <td>countryname</td> <td>country code</td> <td>valid IBAN length</td> <td>Bank/Branch Code (check1, bank, branch)</td> <td>Account Number (check2, number, check3)</td> <tr> <tr> <td>Andorra</td> <td>AD</td> <td>24</td> <td>0 4n 4n</td> <td>0 12 0 </td> <tr> <tr> <td>België</td> <td>BE</td> <td>16</td> <td>0 3n 0 </td> <td>0 7n 2n</td> <tr> <tr> <td>Bosnië-Herzegovina</td> <td>BA</td> <td>20</td> <td>0 3n 3n</td> <td>0 8n 2n</td> <tr> </table> and many more ;-) I hope someone can help me with this. Tnx in advance

  • Fastest Way To Format a Plain Text Using Javascript

    - by Nathan Campos
I have a huge plain text document, about 700kb which is very big for plain texts and I need to format it on cloud converting it to HTML, but the only things that I need to replace, format to HTML so it can be displayed by the browser, are bold and italic. For bold at the plain text they are like this: Not on bold... **bold text here** not bold here And italic like this: Not italic... *italic text* no italic Just like StackOverflow does for their formatting, but the problem is that I need to make it a lot faster, since the text is so big... One of my ideas was to add a page slide, so I the script just need to format some part of the text, not it all, then after the user changes the page the script would be called again, but the problem is how I can make the code for this all?

  • Javascript: Static member variable containing object instances

    - by tom
I have the following: function Preferences() { } Preferences.players = { 'player1': new Player() } players is a static member variable of Preferences and I'm trying to make it an object containing an instance of a Player. However, it doesn't appear to let me do this. It seems like it will allow me to define players if I make it a non-static member variable however. Like so: function Preferences() { var players = { 'player1' : new Player() } } Is it possible to create a static member variable containing instances of an object in JS?

  • Skip video in youtube playlist using javascript

    - by peirix
I've looked through the YouTube JS API, but can't find a way to jump to a video in a playlist. (Mimicking the built-in navigation) And if you're wondering why I'd want both, it's because I have a menu set up with additional information, and want to let the user click these links to jump between the videos.

  • Javascript to add cdata section on the fly?

    - by Chris G.
I'm having trouble with special characters that exist in an xml node attribute. To combat this, I'm trying to render the attributes as child nodes and, where necessary, using cdata sections to get around the special characters. The problem is, I can't seem to get the cdata section appended to the node correctly. I'm iterating over the source xml node's attributes and creating new nodes. If the attribute.name = "description" I want to put the attribute.text() in a cdata section and append the new node. That's where I jump the track. // newXMLData is the new xml document that I've created in memory for (var ctr =0;ctr< this.attributes.length;ctr++){ // iterate over the attributes if( this.attributes[ctr].name =="Description"){ // if the attribute name is "Description" add a CDATA section var thisNodeName = this.attributes[ctr].name; newXMLDataNode.append("<"+thisNodeName +"></"+ thisNodeName +">" ); var cdata = newXMLData.createCDATASection('test'); // here's where it breaks. } else { // It's not "Description" so just append the new node. newXMLDataNode.append("<"+ this.attributes[ctr].name +">" + $(this.attributes[ctr]).text() + "</"+ this.attributes[ctr].name +">" ); } } Any ideas? Is there another way to add a cdata section? Here's a sample snippet of the source... <row pSiteID="4" pSiteTile="Test Site Name " pSiteURL="http://www.cnn.com" ID="1" Description="<div>blah blah blah since June 2007.&amp;nbsp; T<br>&amp;nbsp;<br>blah blah blah blah&amp;nbsp; </div>" CreatedDate="2010-09-20 14:46:18" Comments="Comments example.&#10;" > here's what I'm trying to create... <Site> <PSITEID>4</PSITEID> <PSITETILE>Test Site Name</PSITETILE> <PSITEURL>http://www.cnn.com</PSITEURL> <ID>1</ID> <DESCRIPTION><![CDATA[<div>blah blah blah since June 2007.&amp;nbsp; T<br>&amp;nbsp;<br>blah blah blah blah&amp;nbsp; </div ]]></DESCRIPTION> <CREATEDDATE>2010-09-20 14:46:18</CREATEDDATE> <COMMENTS><![CDATA[ Comments example.&#10;]]></COMMENTS> </Site>

Use .split('<br>') ? then use .split('&nbsp;') to separate the state from the zip same with city and state I am a little lost here. Here are the variables I would like. company name, person's name, address1, city, state, country, zip code, phone, Here is the paragraph that i have. • Javascript/jQuery: Varying parameters on a custom function

    - by dclowd9901
I'm writing a plugin that will allow parameters to 'set it up.' But I predict the user won't always want to set up every aspect of the function. function This_Function(a,b,c,d); For instance, maybe they'll only want to set up a and c, but not b and d (they'll just prefer to leave those as defaults). How do I write the function (or the parameters for that matter) so that the user can customize which functions they would prefer to pass? I have a feeling it involves parsing input, but I've seen many other functions with this capability. Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Javascript: sort objects

    - by tom
function Player() { var score; this.getScore = function() { return score; } this.setScore = function(sc) { score = sc; } } function compare(playerA, playerB) { return playerA.getScore() - playerB.getScore(); } var players = []; players['player1'] = new Player(); players['player2'] = new Player(); Array(players).sort(compare); I have code that is similar to the above. When I step through the code with a debugger, the compare function never gets called and the array isn't sorted. I'm not sure what's wrong with my code?

  • how to access method variables from within an anonomous function in javascript

    - by Hussain
I'm writing a small ajax class for personal use. In the class, I have a "post" method for sending post requests. The post method has a callback parameter. In the onreadystatechange propperty, I need to call the callback method. Something like this: this.requestObject.onreadystatechange = function() { callback(this.responseText); } However, I can't access the callback variable from within the anonomous function. How can I bring the callback variable into the scope of the onreadystatechange anonomous function?

  • remove spaces in string using javascript

    - by reza saberi
I need to do some functions on some text field contents before submitting the form, like checking the validity of the customer registeration code, having the customer name as his code in customers table appending an incrementing number. I don't want to do it after the form is submitted becuase I need it to be displayed in the code field before submitting the form. My code: function getCode(){ var temp = document.getElementById("temp").value ; var d = parseInt(document.getElementById("temp").value) + 1; document.getElementById("customernumber").value = d; document.getElementById("code").value = document.getElementById("name").value+"-"+ d; } It all works fine, but the last line of code developed the code WITH the spaces between the code.
