  • Python - Is a dictionary slow to find frequency of each character?

    - by psihodelia
I am trying to find a frequency of each symbol in any given text using an algorithm of O(n) complexity. My algorithm looks like: s = len(text) P = 1.0/s freqs = {} for char in text: try: freqs[char]+=P except: freqs[char]=P but I doubt that this dictionary-method is fast enough, because it depends on the underlying implementation of the dictionary methods. Is this the fastest method?

  • Can @Inject be made option in JSR 330 (like @Autowire(required=false)?

    - by Eric B.
Spring's @Autowire can be configured such that Spring will throw an error if no matching autowire candidates are found: @Autowire(required=false) Is there an equivalent JSR-330 annotation? @Inject always fails if there is no matching candidate. Is there any way I can use @Inject but not have the framework fail if no matching types are found? I haven't been able to find any documentation to that extent.

  • High performance SSL client with connection pooling session caching etch on Windows

    - by Yucong Sun
Hi there, I'm looking for a fast SSL socket client basically talks SSL with remote service and I need features like connection pooling/limiting so that my other client calling this ssl socket can basically issue as many as requests and it will handle it peacefully. I looked into openssl s_client, but it says it's only for testing purpose, is there a handy tool avaiable? STunnel seems to be okay, but don't have that connection limiting option I need. Cheers.

  • Best Java thread-safe locking mechanism for collections?

    - by Simon
What would be the least-slow thread-safe mechanism for controlling multiple accesses to a collection in Java? I am adding objects to the top of a collection and i am very unsure what would be the best performing collection. Would it be a vector or a queue? I originally thought an ArrayList would be fast but i ran some experiments and it was very slow. EDIT: In my insertion testing a Vector delared using volatile seems to be the fastest?

  • Need design ideas generators.

    - by Clubspy
Hello guys I am a web developer and sometimes I have to do some design myself for my customers but design actually is not my best thing to do. I am looking for a program that can help me getting fast and reliable design ideas but I am not looking for code generator like Artisteer. Actually design is a hard task and my designs always look ugly and messy.

  • WebService remote invoking fails.

    - by user569913
I have a web service hosted on a web server, I invoke the web service using jquery ajax. The service returns results successfully when invoked locally from the server, but it fails when invoked from a remote client machine (not in the same domain). I see the request fail in the firebug returning error (401 UnAuthorized) and the response has the following error (Request format is unrecognized for URL unexpectedly ending in '/List').

  • Do Java or C++ lack any OO features?

    - by tsv
I am interested in understanding object-oriented programming in a more academic and abstract way than I currently do, and want to know if there are any object-oriented concepts Java and C++ fail to implement. I realise neither of the languages are "pure" OO, but I am interested in what (if anything) they lack, not what they have extra.

  • stringByAppendingFormat not working

    - by iFloh
I have an NSString and fail to apply the following statement: NSString *myString = @"some text"; [myNSString stringByAppendingFormat:@"some text = %d", 3]; no log or error, the string just doesn't get changed. I already tried with NSString (as documented) and NSMutableString. any clues most welcome.

  • Windows [C++] - Creating new folders if they don't exist for fopen

    - by Gbps
I have a C++ program that takes user input for fopen in order to initiate a file write. Could someone help me find a function which will return a FILE* and use the Windows specific version of mkdir in order to create the folder structure for fopen to never fail to open a new file in the specified location because one of the folders does not exist. Thanks a bunch!

  • Increase the length of Xcode's "recent project" list?

    - by Bogatyr
I switch in Xcode between working on a lot of different projects frequently (some I'm actively working on, some are old projects where I'm looking up code I want to re-use or quote in SO answers :)), so that part of my "working set" of projects invariably ends up falling off the recent project list. I do use finder tabs for the full working set of current project folders, but I really like the fast switching available using the recent projects list. Is there a way to increase the length of this list so that I can see more recently opened projects?

  • How hard is it to determine what procedures/functions no longer compile?

    - by Dave
In sql server how difficult would it be to determine what procedures/functions no longer compile? In other words, if I scripted out alter statements for all procedures and functions in a database, I'd like to know which of these statements are going to fail? I've been working on cleaning up a database I've inherited which has gone through years of changes and I'd like to what objects are going to raise errors when something tries to execute it.
