• determine if a restaurant is open now (like yelp does) using database, php, js

  i was wondering if anyone knows how yelp determines what restaurants are "open now"? i'm developing a similar application using html/javascript/php. i was going to have a column in my database for each day, with comma separated hours written in "2243" format (10:43 pm). so for example if a restaurant is open for lunch and dinner it might be "1100,1400,1700,2200". then i'd check (using js) if the current time falls in one of the ranges for the current day. i'd also like to be able to determine if a restaurant is "open tonight", "open late", etc. for those i guess i'd check whether the open range overlaps with certain ranges. is there a better way to do this? particularly, how to store the hours in the database and then determine if they overlap with a given set of hours. thanks.

  Hi All, I have a listbox whose values are generated dynamically. When i use selenium IDE to select from this listbox it works fine. Here are example commands i use to select from the listbox. <tr> <td>select</td> <td>arr_dtm_mon_year</td> <td>label=Oct 10</td> </tr> <tr> <td>select</td> <td>arr_dtm_mon_year</td> <td>label=May 10</td> </tr> Now the problem i have is the values in the listbox is dynamically generated. In the above example i selected the option for "May 10". The values that are generated is a list of all previous six months and a list of all future six months. This basically means that if i rerun the test 6 months from now "May 10" will not be available from the list. Is it possible to select the value dynamically. For example can i first calculate the current month and select the value with that is current month + 1 (i.e. next month). And also how can i build the value to be selected after i have determined what the next month is. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

• Java 2D clip area to shape

  I'm quite new to graphics in java and I'm trying to create a shape that clips to the bottom of another shape. Here is an example of what I'm trying to achieve: Where the white line at the base of the shape is the sort of clipped within the round edges. The current way I am doing this is like so: g2.setColor(gray); Shape shape = getShape(); //round rectangle g2.fill(shape); Rectangle rect = new Rectangle(shape.getBounds().x, shape.getBounds().y, width, height - 3); Area area = new Area(shape); area.subtract(new Area(rect)); g2.setColor(white); g2.fill(area); I'm still experimenting with the clip methods but I can't seem to get it right. Is this current method ok (performance wise, since the component repaints quite often) or is there a more efficient way? Thanks in advance.

  I get the same culture i.e. "en-US" while running the website from both IIS and Visual Studio's web server. But I get a different date format as follows, when I run the following code: HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.ToString()); HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.DateTimeFormat.ShortDatePattern); On Visual Studio's web server: dd/MM/yyyy en-US On IIS: M/d/yyyy en-US Does "Regional and Language Options" in "Control Panel" play any role in this ? If I change the date format there in "Regional and Language Options", I see no effect in my application.

• JSF - Session Bean restart on logout and login

  Hi, I have a web application with a backing bean which has the context of the current logged in user. It is implemented on JSF. When the user logs out he is forwarded to a login screen (in another JSP page). I would like the current session to be erased when that happens and a new one to be created the next time the user logs in and enters the application. My question is - how do you delete a session? (I guess the new session will be created automatically the next time the user enters the link) This is kinda newb i guess, but I couldn't find a solution for this. Thanks for the Help!

  Hello. I created several web applications that use the same static files (css, js, images). When I use svn for version control, I use an external repository (svn: externals) to add files to the current project. For example: - Project_1 ---- Webapp -------- Static (external to static's repo) - Project_2 ---- Webapp -------- Static (external to static's repo) I could easily use it in their web pages by adding a link like /static/ ... But now our company has moved to perforce. How can I support the current structure? We also use maven, I think to pack these files as a jar and use as a dependency, but then my editor (idea) does not see that this dependence are js-scripts and styles. And i need to repackage and deploy jar file when create minor changes. How to use maven correctly?

  Drupal Question: Does anyone have a method of using Views and highlighting a selected/current node. So for example: I have a list of articles under a heading: 2009 Articles Dog Training Cat Cleaning Snake Wrangling The 3 articles are made from the view (ie: latest articles from 2009)... as the user makes new articles, they are automatically added into this view by title. I now need to find a way, that if a user clicks on say CAT CLEANING.... and the cat cleaning article appears, the CAT CLEANING in the view becomes bold (or some CSS indication it's the current article.) I know this is pretty easy with MENU's, But I don't want to force a user to add new articles into a menu. Thanks alot, JD

• SSRS and hiding other selections once a parameter is selected

  I am learning SSRS so this is probably an extremely easy solution. I have a bunch of reports that were rebuilt to match some old Access reports. For each report, we have to be able to run Current, Last, Next or Adhoc dates. Is there an easy way if a user selects Adhoc to then show the parameters selections for Start and End Date for the Adhoc selection? Right now, I have people who select Current and then go and put in dates. (Until MySQL 5.0.13 InnoDB rolled back the entire transaction if a lock wait timeout happened. You can restore this behavior by starting the server with the --innodb_rollback_on_timeout option, available as of MySQL 5.0.32. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/innodb-parameters.html#sysvar_innodb_lock_wait_timeout Does it mean that when a lock wait timeout occurs, it compromises the transactional integrity? "roollback on timeout" was the default behaviour till 5.0.13 and I guess that was the correct way to handle such situations. Does anyone think that this should be the default behaviour and the user should not be asked to add a parameter for a functionality that is taken for granted?

  How does one stream files, html or custom AJAX responses from web parts? Our current quick-and-very-dirty solution is to make the web part call the current page with certain query parameters, which the web part checks and instead of performing normal load it writes the required things to output and calls response end. This sounds bad since SharePoint might load other web parts and execute their code before reaching our web part. The web part is configured with data source settings which means the streaming context must be specific to the web part so it can acquire the correct data source settings.

  I have a view which contains the data seen in the image below. The view is showing me how many working days are available in each month for the current financial year taking away any school/bank holidays. As the month of August has zero days available it has excluded this month from the view. As the total number of days available will always be zero for the month of August, then it seems acceptable to hardcode the SQL to always have 0 for August, and also an April-August record which will be the same as April-July. • Handling Incoming Data from Multiple Sockets in Python

  Background: I have a current implementation that receives data from about 120 different socket connections in python. In my current implementation, I handle each of these separate socket connections with a dedicated thread for each. Each of these threads parse the data and eventually store it within a shared locked dictionary. These sockets DO NOT have uniform data rates, some sockets get more data than others. Question: Is this the best way to handle incoming data in python, or does python have a better way on handling multiple sockets per thread?

• Best way to store data for Greasemonkey based crawler?

  I want to crawl a site with Greasemonkey and wonder if there is a better way to temporarily store values than with GM_setValue. What I want to do is crawl my contacts in a social network and extract the Twitter URLs from their profile pages. My current plan is to open each profile in it's own tab, so that it looks more like a normal browsing person (ie css, scrits and images will be loaded by the browser). Then store the Twitter URL with GM_setValue. Once all profile pages have been crawled, create a page using the stored values. I am not so happy with the storage option, though. Maybe there is a better way? I have considered inserting the user profiles into the current page so that I could all process them with the same script instance, but I am not sure if XMLHttpRequest looks indistignuishable from normal user initiated requests.

• Can I get information about the IIS7 virtual directory from Application_Start?

  I have 3 IIS7 virtual directories which point to the same physical directory. Each one has a unique host headers bound to it and each one runs in its own app pool. Ultimately, 3 instances of the same ASP.NET application. In the Application_Start event handler of global.asax I would like to identify which instance of the application is running (to conditionally execute some code). Since the Request object is not available, I cannot interrogate the current URL so I would like to interrogate the binding information of the current virtual directory? Since the host header binding is unique for each site, it would allow me to identify which application instance is starting up. Does anyone know how to do this or have a better suggestion?

• MediaElement seems to disable lock screen when playing a video

  I am working on an application that plays a video using the MediaElement component. Now, I would like that if the user is idle, the lock screen appears, as configured by the user in the Settings of the device. If I don't play a video, the lock screen indeed appears. But, when a video is playing no lock screen appears. I cannot find any information on this. Currently I set the idle detection modes like this: PhoneApplicationService.Current.ApplicationIdleDetectionMode = IdleDetectionMode.Enabled; PhoneApplicationService.Current.UserIdleDetectionMode = IdleDetectionMode.Enabled; I am a bit lost now. The only solution I can think of is running a timer myself and stop the video playback after a certain time. (but there seems to be no API calls to receive the configured lock timeout.) Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

• XNA .FBX Vertex Color Missing

  When I vertex paint and export my models from Blender (or Maya) for use in my XNA 4.0 project, I somehow lose the vertex color channel for the model. I use no custom model object or content pipelines and my own shader throws me the error: The current vertex declaration does not include all the elements required by the current vertex shader. Color0 is missing. I tryed to reopen the model in other modeling tools and the vertex colors are there. What could cause the vertex color channel to not get loaded in XNA 4.0? The background is applied to the div.page but because its child is getting resized, it resizes as well, cutting off the background image. It's hard to explain so please look at the link above to see what I mean. I guess what I'm trying to ask is: is there a way to resize an element without resizing its parent? I tried setting height and min-height of .page to 100% and 101% but that didn't work. I tried making the background image fixed, but nada. It also happens if I add the background to the body or even html. Help?

• What to Learn: Rails 1.2.4 -> Rails 3

  I've recently convinced my management that our outdated version of Rails is slowing us down enough to warrant an upgrade. The approach we're taking is to start a fresh project with current technology rather than a painful upgrade. Our requirements for the project have changed and this will be much easier. The biggest problem is actually that my knowledge of Rails is out of date. I've dealt only with Rails 1.2.4 while the rest of the world has moved on long ago. What topics have I missed by being buried in my work instead of keeping up with the current Rails fashion? I'm hesitant to dig through blogs at random because I'm not sure how much has changed between the intervening versions of Rails. It's no use to learn Rails 2.1-2.3 specific stuff that is no longer useful for Rails 3.
