A combo box is an auto-complete text box that is also a dropdown (i.e., you can choose from a list if you prefer).
"Best" means combination of: stable, look/feel, API / customizability, maturity.
I have this
authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'+
'<li><a href="auth/create_account">create account</a></li>';
It works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer gives me an "Error: Object doesn't support this property or method" I'm mystified - what could be going on here?
There's a comment line above the offending line, could that possibly be making a difference?
//authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>';
Check out the page yourself at http://www.imagineelection.com. I want two little links, "login" and "create account", to appear on the top right of the page.
Thanks!
I don't want my website's user to use backspace to go to the previous page,
but I still want to keep the use of backspace,
just like deleting wrong typing.
How can I do?
Thanks a lot.
Is there any good tool out there that allows developers to correctly debug messages sent between windows with postMessage?
Or maybe a plugin for Firebug?
Thanks!
So far the only mathematical way I can think of doing it is this:
var age = 18
var today = new Date();
var myDate = new Date();
myDate.setFullYear(2013,3,13); /* My birthday is april 13th */
var y = (today - myDate);
var days = ( y / (1000*60*60*24));
if(days >= 360){
var age = age +1;
}
if(days >= 720){
var age = age +1;
}
//etc......
document.write(age);
Is there a better way of doing the if statements? so that I don't have to write one out for every year? I can't think!
I'm curious if there is an efficient way to wait for the front page of a site to load, and then pre-load CSS and script files that I know will likely be needed for the other pages on the site.
I want the front page of the site to be as fast as possible (lean and mean). It's likely that the user will not immediately click on a link. Since there will likely be some idle time, this seems like an opportune time to pre-load some of the external assets. Pre-loading should cause them to become cached. When the user does click on another page, the only request needed will be for the content and possibly some images, etc.
Has anyone done this?
Is it a bad idea?
Is there an elegant way to implement it?
<script>
var interval;
var minutes = 1;
var seconds = 5;
window.onload = function() {
countdown('countdown');
}
function countdown(element) {
interval = setInterval(function() {
var el = document.getElementById(element);
if(seconds == 0) {
if(minutes == 0) {
el.innerHTML = "countdown's over!";
clearInterval(interval);
return;
} else {
minutes--;
seconds = 60;
}
}
if(minutes > 0) {
var minute_text = minutes + (minutes > 1 ? ' minutes' : ' minute');
} else {
var minute_text = '';
}
var second_text = seconds > 1 ? 'seconds' : 'second';
el.innerHTML = minute_text + ' ' + seconds + ' ' + second_text + ' remaining';
seconds--;
}, 1000);
}
</script>
this is a good countdown clock and i want to show the time in datalist how do i do it?
like in this site www.1buy1.co.il
I have two dropdowns in my JSP page
1. lstA
test1
test2
test3
test4
2. lstB
Now on selection of lstA, I want to populate all the items of lstA into lstB except the select one, also the content of lstA should remain the same.
How can I achieve this?
I tried to do it, but from lstA some random items get removed, which is quite wired.
I need to modify the hash, remove it after certain processing takes place so that if the user refreshes they do not cause the process to run again.
This works fine in FF, but it seems that IE is reloading every time I try to change the hash. I think it is related to other things that are loading on the page, though I am not certain. I have an iframe that loads (related to the process) as well as some scripts that are still being fetched in the parent window.
I can't seem to figure out a good way to change the hash after all the loading completes. And, at the same time am not even positive that it is related to the loading.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
yes, i know - that question has thousands of answers. please, don't tell me about "setTimeout" method becasuse - yes, everything is possible with that but not so easy as using sleep() method. for example:
function fibonacci(n) {
console.log("Computing Fibonacci for " + n + "...");
var result = 0;
//wait 1 second before computing for lower n
sleep(1000);
result = (n <= 1) ? 1 : (fibonacci(n - 1) + fibonacci(n - 2));
//wait 1 second before announcing the result
sleep(1000);
console.log("F(" + n + ") = " + result);
return result;
}
if you know how to get the same result using setTimeout - tell me ;) fibanacci is pretty easy task, because there not more than 2 recursions, but how about n-recursions (like fib(1) + fib(2) + .. + fib(n) and sleep after every "+"? nah, sleep would be muuuuuch easier. but still i can't get working example of implementing it. while (curr - start < time) { curr = (...) } is tricky, but it won't work (just stops my browser and then throw all console.logs at once).
I have two click-events, that are nearly similar, but not quite. I am wondering how to refactor them best:
$('.remove_fields.dynamic').live('click', function(e) {
var $this = $(this);
var after_removal_trigger_node = $this.closest(".nested-fields").parent();
trigger_removal_callback($this);
e.preventDefault();
$this.closest(".nested-fields").remove();
trigger_after_removal_callback(after_removal_trigger_node);
});
$('.remove_fields.existing').live('click', function(e) {
var $this = $(this);
var after_removal_trigger_node = $this.closest(".nested-fields").parent();
trigger_removal_callback($this);
e.preventDefault();
$this.prev("input[type=hidden]").val("1");
$this.closest(".nested-fields").hide();
trigger_after_removal_callback(after_removal_trigger_node);
});
As you can tell there is a fair bit of overlap. I am wondering what the best/nicest way would be to refactor this code.
I am trying to get the value of a text input and check if there is any links in it and then take those links and make them into tags. But when I run this code, something is going wrong and it completely freezes the page. Basically, I want it to check for "http://" and if that exists, to keep on adding to the substr length until the end of the string/link. Is there a better way to do this?
// the id "post" could possibly say: "Hey, check this out! http://facebook.com"
// I'd like it to just get that link and that's all I need help with, just to get the
// value of that entire string/link.
var x = document.getElementById("post");
var m = x.value.indexOf("http://");
var a = 0;
var q = m;
if (m != -1) {
while (x.value.substr(q, 1) != " ") {
var h = x.value.substr(m, a);
q++;
}
}
I would like to match a digit and replace it with that many spaces. Can this be done in less than 9 lines of code?
Example
"asnthsnth4nts4h3n" --> "asnthsnth nts h n"
I'm sure this is really simple, but I need some help.
I'm trying to insert a variable into an anchor in the following snippet
var tablerows = ''
$.each( data, function(index,row){
id = row.shift()
tablerows += '<tr><td><a href="getuserimage.php?id=" target="_blank">' + row.shift() + '</a></td>'
tablerows += '<td>' + row.join('</td><td>') + '</td></tr>'
})
$("#users-table > tbody").html(tablerows)
I'm just not sure how to get the id in there
i have a string like following:
Assigned to ram on 2010-04-22 12:30:13.0
i need to extract the third word (ram). I tried the below regex, its not working.
/\s[a-zA-Z]*\s/
any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
Have a bubblesort routine similar the this. I need to make it more efficient by stopping the loop when the array is sorted or if the array is already sorted.
function sortNumbers(listbox) {
var x, y, holder;
// The Bubble Sort method.
for(x = 0; x < ranarray.length; x++) {
for(y = 0; y < (ranarray.length-1); y++) {
if(ranarray[y] > ranarray[y+1]) {
holder = ranarray[y+1];
ranarray[y+1] = ranarray[y];
ranarray[y] = holder;
}
}
}
var user = {};
now I want to create a setUsers method that takes a key/value pair object and initializes the user variable.
setUsers = function(data) {
// loop and init user
}
where data is like:
234: "john", 23421: "smith", ....
Hi, so I know there are tons of ways to simulate inheritance and other OO features. I have chosen one to use for my project and am wondering if I can create an instance and add stuff to it and keep it contained (within braces).
Consider the following:
function BaseClass(){
<this.stuff here>
}
function SubClass(){
this.superClass = BaseClass();
this.superClass();
<this.other stuff here>
}
myObj = new SubClass();
so myObj is an instance of SubClass. I can add things to myObj like:
myObj.blah = "funtimes";
What I would like is to be able to add stuff to the "instance" and keep it organized in braces much like the constructor. psuedo code like:
myObj = new SubClass() {
var blah = "funtimes"
<more instance specific stuff here>
}
Is something like this possible?
Thanks!
I'm experiencing a problem of $.get function.
The url contains JSON
this is my code:
xyz = null
$.get('http://www.someurl.com/123=json', function(data) {
var xyz = data.positions[0].latitude;
});
alert(xyz);
//some more code using xyz variable
I know that xyz will alert a null result because the $.get is asychronous.
So is there any way I can use the xyz outside this get function?
Thank you
hello friends sorry for previous question actuly my question is i am having one button called btn[0] which is allready on browser when it is loaded when i click on btn[0] it will create another button element called btn[1] now btn[0]'s click event is disabled and when i click on btn[1] it will also generate another button which called btn[2] when i click on btn[2] it will generate another btn called btn[3] and so on
parseInt("7em", 10); returns 7 in all browsers I tested [*]. But can I rely on this?
The reason I ask is, that I want to perform some calculations based on em, like
/* elem1.style.top uses em units */
elem2.style.top = parseInt(elem1.style.top, 10) + 1 + "em";
I could do this with regular expressions, but parseInt is easier to use, and probably a bit faster. Or is there another solution (maybe using jQuery)?
[*] Tested so far on: IE 6, IE 8, Safari 4, Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.5
I am planning to build a JS based twitter client. Information about libraries/clients is pretty old on other SO Questions. I was wondering if anyone has come across wrappers other than Spaz and TwitterHelper.
Thanks :-)
