    I decided to use Dynamic Data Entities website in vs2012. So, I created this website,then added App_Code directory and added a new edmx to it and named it myDB.edmx. After that I uncommented the code line in global.asax which registers the entity context : DefaultModel.RegisterContext(typeof(myDBEntities), new ContextConfiguration() { ScaffoldAllTables = true }); But when I run the website this error occurs : The context type 'myDBEntities' is not supported. how can I fix it? p.s: You now there are some differences between using L2S by Dynamic Data L2S website AND using entity framework by Dynamic Data Entities website.

  • More on PHP and Oracle 11gR2 Improvements to Client Result Caching

    Oracle 11.2 brought several improvements to Client Result Caching. CRC is way for the results of queries to be cached in the database client process for reuse.  In an Oracle OpenWorld presentation "Best Practices for Developing Performant Application" my colleague Luxi Chidambaran had a (non-PHP generated) graph for the Niles benchmark that shows a DB CPU reduction up to 600% and response times up to 22% faster when using CRC. Sometimes CRC is called the "Consistent Client Cache" because Oracle automatically invalidates the cache if table data is changed.  This makes it easy to use without needing application logic rewrites. There are a few simple database settings to turn on and tune CRC, so management is also easy. PHP OCI8 as a "client" of the database can use CRC.  The cache is per-process, so plan carefully before caching large data sets.  Tables that are candidates for caching are look-up tables where the network transfer cost dominates. CRC is really easy in 11.2 - I'll get to that in a moment.  It was also pretty easy in Oracle 11.1 but it needed some tiny application changes.  In PHP it was used like: $s = oci_parse($c, "select /*+ result_cache */ * from employees"); oci_execute($s, OCI_NO_AUTO_COMMIT); // Use OCI_DEFAULT in OCI8 <= 1.3 oci_fetch_all($s, $res); I blogged about this in the past.  The query had to include a specific hint that you wanted the results cached, and you needed to turn off auto committing during execution either with the OCI_DEFAULT flag or its new, better-named alias OCI_NO_AUTO_COMMIT.  The no-commit flag rule didn't seem reasonable to me because most people wouldn't be specific about the commit state for a query. Now in Oracle 11.2, DBAs can now nominate tables for caching, either with CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE.  That means you don't need the query hint anymore.  As well, the no-commit flag requirement has been lifted.  Your code can now look like: $s = oci_parse($c, "select * from employees"); oci_execute($s); oci_fetch_all($s, $res); Since your code probably already looks like this, your DBA can find the top queries in the database and simply tune the system by turning on CRC in the database and issuing an ALTER TABLE statement for candidate tables.  Voila. Another CRC improvement in Oracle 11.2 is that it works with DRCP connection pooling. There is some fine print about what is and isn't cached, check the Oracle manuals for details.  If you're using 11.1 or non-DRCP "dedicated servers" then make sure you use oci_pconnect() persistent connections.  Also in PHP don't bind strings in the query, although binding as SQLT_INT is OK.

Is there a particular perfmon counter that can identify this sort of bottleneck on the web servers? CPU, Memory, and Disk are normal. Or must we use a tool other than perfmon to track down this bottleneck?

When I try to ping the server from client computer A I get the following: PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping succeeds! From client computer B, BOTH the pings fail. PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping fails with a message "Ping request could not find host 74.208.192.xxx:80" Both clients A and B are on the same subnet. The server is outside (a virtual server hosted by an ISP) I have an ASP.NET application in a virtual directory on the server. In IE or firefox, if I enter http://74.208.192.xxx/subdir/subdir/../Default.aspx, it works from both the clients! The server has default firewall settings but web server enabled (Port 80 is open). From client A (note the different 'reply to' address when the ping succeeds. But any subsequent changes to the file will not show up until i change the case of the file i'm asking for. Checking the IIS logs all indicate that the (internet) requests are all coming the correct client on the internet (i.e. not from some intermediate proxy). Since the file doesn't exist on the hard drive anymore, i conclude that there is a proxy. The requests serviced from this proxy are not logged in the IIS logs. The requests for new files are logged, and from the client IP, not a proxy IP. The proxy is case sensitivie. This does not sound like something Microsoft, or IIS, would do: - a transparent proxy - case-sensitivie - unlogged - surviving restarts of IIS - surviving in a cache for hours i can't believe that our customer's IIS is doing these things. i'm assuming there is some other transparent proxy in front of IIS. Or, does IIS have a transparent, unlogged, case-sensitive, memory based, proxy, that caches content for at least 7 hours? (Come Monday morning, IIS is serving the correct file, unlogged).

    I am having an intermittent issue that is appearing on one server only, and is causing all MVC pages to fail to load with the error "An item with the same key has already been added." MVC3 projects getting created just fine. I get this error when running the Web Installer for MVC4 Beta. System setup is VS2010 SP1, Windows 7 64-bit, Resharper is installed as well I am at a loss here and now seem to be just wasting time trying to fix this.

    I have a gridview inside a ModalPopUpExtender, the grid view have the button add delete and edit when i clic one of the button of the gridview the popup is closed. I wont to close the popup when the close button is clicked.     I have a asp.net 1.1 application that uses the following code to write out a file in the response: Dim objStream As Object objStream = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Stream") objStream.open() objStream.type = 1 objStream.loadfromfile(localfile) Response.BinaryWrite(objStream.read) This code is called by a pop up window that displays this file or gives a open/save dialog in Internet explorer. The problem is, that it seems to work fine in IE6 but in IE7 the pop up opens and then closes without displaying the file. Any one know whats wrong?

There seems to be a conflict in the programming world where people constantly try to remove code repetition to improve maintainability and yet when it comes to forms, that all goes out of the window and everything gets added explicitly to the forms. What signs should I look for to know when it's time to leave the designer in the dust and create a dynamic UI?

    Hi all I have a .swf flash gallery that loads pics from a XML file the probelm is when I modify the XML the modifications do not reflect on the flash till I delete the browsing cache from the browser I tried to disable caching using code like this Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache); Response.AddHeader("Pragma","no-cache"); Response.Expires = -1; but not working is there any workaround for this ? thanks
