  • Is content from AJAX call added to Django context variable

    Hi, I am using the JQuery load function to load part of my page. Can I access the variables from that page in the page that loads it. e.g. Page A uses JQuery load function to load B Page B loads and sets a variable in context called pageB_var which holds a django object Page A can then access this variable by doing {{pageB_var}} since it was added to the context If not what is the best way of doing this?   • What is the proper way to wait a script loaded completely before another

    I am making a website that is divided by several sections <div id='section-1' class='section'>web content</div> <div id='section-2' class='section'>web content</div> I have like ten sections on my webpage ,each sections height is set to the user window height when document is ready by javascript $('.section').height($(window).height()); Some effects like slideshows on my webpage require the calculated height of the section in order to work properly. Therefore I always use something like this at document ready as a solution. setTimeout(startslideshow,1000); setTimeout(startanimations,1000); ...etc To make sure the section height is the user window height before the slideshow's code start because the sections cannot change to user window height instantly once the webpage loaded will generate serious problems in my slideshow code,like wrong calculated positions. Therefore there will be a situation that's after the page loaded, there will be about a second everything is messed up,before everything can works properly, how could I avoid that being seen by the user? I tried to $(document).hide(),or $('html,body').hide(), then fade in after a second,but I get other weird problems, especially on ipad,my fixed position top navigation bar will always become 'not fixed' while user is scrolling. As I am a self-learner, I afraid my method is not typical. I want to know what is the common ways of real web programmers usually do when they have to divide his webpage into different sections and set its height to window height , then make sure the other effects that's depends on the section height works properly and avoid to wait the height change for a second?

  • HTTP Response 412 - can you include content?

    I am building a RESTful data store and leveraging Conditional GET and PUT. During a conditional PUT the client can include the Etag from a previous GET on the resource and if the current representation doesn't match the server will return the HTTP status code of 412 (Precondition Failed). Note this is an Atom based server/protocol. My question is, when I return the 412 status can I also include the new representation of the resource or must the user issue a new GET? The HTTP spec doesn't seem to say yes or no and neither does the Atom spec (although their example shows an empty entity body on the response). It seems pretty wasteful not to return the new representation and make the client specifically GET it. Thoughts?

  • PHP delete script, return to 'viewsubjects.php?classroom_id=NO VALUE'

    Hi, As the title states... I am deleting a 'subject' from a 'classroom' I view classrooms, then can click on a classroom to view the subject for that classroom. So the link where I am viewing subjects looks like: viewsubjects.php?classroom=23 When the user selects the delete button (in a row) to remove a subject from a class, I simply want the user to be redirected back to the list of subjects for the classroom (exactly where they were before!!) So I though this is simply a case of calling up the classroom ID within my delete script. Here is what I have: EDIT: corrected spelling mistake in code (this was not the problem) $subject_id = $_GET['subject_id']; $classroom_id = $_GET['classroom_id']; $sql = "DELETE FROM subjects WHERE subject_id=".$subject_id; $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection) or die("MySQL Error: ".mysql_error()); header("Location: viewsubjects.php?classroom_id=".$classroom_id); exit(); The subject is being removed from the DB, but when I am redirected back the URI is displaying with an empty classroom ID like: viewsubjects.php?classroom_id= Is there a way to carry the classroom ID through successfully through the delete script so it can be displayed after, allowing the user to be redirected back to the page? The script can be found here: http://pastebin.com/7iyE5ADu Here is an exemplificative image to show what I'm triyng to achieve: http://i41.tinypic.com/6jkeq1.jpg Actually the slider add a "current" class to an item (in the example the squares 1,2 and 3) and for each thumb show a content in the main area. In the example, with an interval of 2 seconds, the script switch from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3, and so on. I'd like to make a continuous animation of the thumbs, anyone can help me?

    Currently I'm stuck with a problem in jquerymobile: I'm adding items to a list dynamically and use enhanceWithin() in the end (so styling is correct). After this I like to add click-events for each list item but the problem is, that enhanceWithin runs asynchronous and so I always get the error message "cannot call methods on checkboxradio prior to initialization; attempted to call method 'refresh'" When I delay the event-adding-code it works perfectly.     I would like to update my hosts file and restart dnsmasq from a web interface (php/apache2). I tried playing around with suid bits (the demonstaration). I have both apache and dnsmasq running on an EC2 instance. I understand that Linux ignores the setuid bit on text scripts, but works on binary files. (Have I got something wrong?). I added exec("whoami"); to the example C program in Wikipedia. Although the effective UID of the C program is 0, whoami does not return root :-( I would thoroughly like to avoid echo password | sudo service dnsmasq restart or adding apache to the sudoers without password! Is there a way out? How does webmin do such things?

  • Custom punctuation function making script run over the php's 60s runtime limit

    I am importing allot of product data from an XML file (about 5000 products). When I run the script I can make it work in about 10-12 seconds. Now, when I add this punctuation function which makes sure each product description ends with a punctuation sign, the code runs until the php 60 seconds loadtime on my server but I'm not getting any errors. I have error reporting turned on. I just get a final error that the script could not load in 60 seconds. The question is, looking at this function, is it that resource consuming?   • Should a "script" tag be allowed to remove itself?

    We've been having a discussion at our workplace on this with some for and some against the behavior. Wanted to hear views from you guys : <html> <body> <div> Test! <script> document.body.removeChild(document.getElementsByTagName('div')[0]); </script> </div> </body> </html> Should the above script work and do what it's supposed to do? First, let's see what's happening here : I have a javascript that's inside the <div> element. This javascript will delete the child node within body which happens to hold the div inside which the script itself exists. Now, the above script works fine in Firefox, Opera and IE8. But IE6 and IE7 give an alert saying they cannot open the page. Let's not debate on how IE should have handled this (they've accepted it as a bug and hence fixed it in IE8). The point here is since the 'SCRIPT' tag itself is a part of DOM, should it be allowed to do something like this? Should it even exist after such an operation? Edit: Firefox, Opera, IE9 etc. do not remove the 'script' tag if I run the above code. But, document.getElementsByTagName('script').length returns 0! To understand what I mean, add alert(document.getElementsByTagName('script').length); before and after document.body.removeChild(document.getElementsByTagName('div')[0]); in the code above.

  • How to make html-files with content to be used in a simple ajax site to behave nicely in google?

    I made some ajax sites in the past where I used ajax to get more of a desktop application feeling for my sites and also to keep the site maintainable. My strategy was making one index page and from there pulling in html content from some subpages. (So far I didn't use ajax to send data to the server.) The problem that I ran into is this: I want the subpages to be readable by google since they contain valuable content but once they show up in google's results they lead to the naked html-file (no css nor Javascript). I solved this by putting a javascript redirect (window.location = ...) on the subpages so they lead to the correct page. So as an example let's say I have a site at example.com with some javascript and css and a naked content page that should be loaded via ajax: example.com/content.html. Via ajax I pull in what I need from the content file but since my index.html contains href's to the content.html file (I want the content of my ajax site to be readable without Javascript) it will be indexed by google and gets listed in the search results. But I don't want people to see the naked html file. Hence the redirect that goes to the index page and gets handled by some Javascript to show the content as I want it to be showed. I was wondering if there are nicer solutions to this problem or different approaches.

  • UiScrollView with scrolling content

    I have a detail page of type UIScrollView. On it I want an optional UIImageView and a mandatory UITextView. If no image is available then the image view should not take any space. The text for the text view can be of varying sizes. When the view is loaded with, say, the image and the text I need to be able to scroll through all the contents. So the image slips off the top of the screen. I just can't get this work and I feel it ought to be easy. Any ideas?
