  I'm invoking a rest service that returns JSON like this: { "some.key" : "some value", "another.key" : "another value" } I would like to think that I can invoke this service with a java.util.Map as the response type but that's not working for me. I get this exception: org.springframework.web.client.RestClientException: Could not extract response: no suitable HttpMessageConverter found for response type [interface java.util.Map] Should I just specify String as the response type and convert the JSON to a Map?

I know now that I need to attach an entity before making my changes to it. But how can do I do this: I have an MVC website, a Customer Update Page with fields: ID, Name, Address, etc. My MVC is parsing this into a Customer entity. How do I do the following: Update my entity and Save the changes to it. Catch the exception if my changes have been made since I loaded my entity.

• Trying to use a grails domain class from the shell

  I'm new to Grails. I'm trying to experiement with my grails domains from the shell, and I can't get it to work. These domains work fine from the scaffold code when I run the app. Given this domain class class IncomingCall { String caller_id Date call_time int call_length static constraints = { } } I try to create an "IncomingCall" and save it from the shell. No matter what I do, I always get "Null"; the object isn't created. • How to serve a View as CSV in ASP.NET Web Forms

  Hi, I have a MS SQL view that I want to make available as a CSV download in my ASPNET Web Forms app. I am using Entity Framework for other views and tables in the project. What's the best way to enable this download? I could add a HyperLink whose click handler iterates over the view, writes its CSV form to the disk, and then serves that file. However, I'd prefer not to write to the disk if it can be avoided, and that involves iteration code that may be avoided with some other solution. Any ideas?

• How can I extract System.Net.Mail from Mono and rename the namespaces?

  Microsoft's implementation of System.Net.Mail does not provide a robust mailing solution. I would like to use Mono's implementation of System.Net.Mail instead, however that namespace is embedded in the System.dll shipped with Mono, and has exact same namespaces as the original .net framework. What I would like to do is instead extract System.Net.Mail from the mono solution and rename namespaces to Mono.System.Net.Mail. Then I can compile this in its own DLL and finally have a mailing solution that works! Can anyone tell me how this can be done?

  I want to log the versions of all DLLs my .NET-application uses. It doesn't matter if the log-output is generated on startup or on first use of each DLL. The first solution which came to my mind was to iterate over all DLL files which reside in the same directory as my assembly. But is this the best option I have? Is there any better way to do this? It's important that the solution should also work on .NET-Compact-Framework.

• Preventing EF4 ConstraintException when invoking TryUpdateModel

  Given following ASP.NET MVC controller code: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(FormCollection collection) { string[] whitelist = new []{ "CompanyName", "Address1", "Address2", ... }; Partner newPartner = new Partner(); if (TryUpdateModel(newPartner, whitelist, collection)) { var db = new mainEntities(); db.Partners.AddObject(newPartner); db.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Details/" + newPartner.ID); } else { return View(); } } The problem is with the Entity Framework 4: the example Partner entity is mapped to a database table with it's fields NOT ALLOWED to be NULL (which is ok by design - they're required). Unfortunately, invoking TryUpdateModel when some of the properties are nulls produces ConstraintException which is not expected! I do expect that TryUpdateModel return false in this case. It is ok that EF wouldn't allow set a property value to null if it should not be, but the TryUpdateMethod should handle that, and add the error to ModelState errors collection. I am wrong, or somebody screwed the implementation of TryUpdateModel method?

Also, if during execution the database goes down and comes up again, how can i ensure that my program recovers from this and continues running instead of throwing an exception and exiting?

  I'm having the following problem: I'm using Oracle ADF for the view and controller of my app. With OpenSessionInViewFilter, I intercept the request and open an Hibernate's Session, and it is closed as soon as the bean's method finishes. What I need is to keep the Session opened until the page is rendered, because in my JSP y use the lazy attributes of the object i load from the DB.   Is it correct that I can put context:annotation-config in my XML config and it will automatically inject the bean class without needing any annotations? • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - 99% fragmentation on non-clustered, non-unique index

  I have a table with several indexes (defined below). One of the indexes (IX_external_guid_3) has 99% fragmentation regardless of rebuilding/reorganizing the index. Anyone have any idea as to what might cause this, or the best way to fix it? We are using Entity Framework 4.0 to query this, the EF queries on the other indexed fields about 10x faster on average then the external_guid_3 field, however an ADO.Net query is roughly the same speed on both (though 2x slower than the EF Query to indexed fields).   I'm trying to deserialize JSON which I'm getting from an external source into an Entity Framework entity class using the following code: var serializer = new JavaScriptSerializer(); IList<Feature> obj = serializer.Deserialize<IList<Feature>>(json); The following exception is thrown: Object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List1[JustTime.Task]' cannot be converted to type 'System.Data.Objects.DataClasses.EntityCollection1[JustTime.Task]'. My model is simple: The Feature class has a one-to-many relation to the Tasks class. The problem appears to be the deserializer is trying to create a generic List to hold the collection of tasks instead of an EntityCollection. I've tried implementing a JavaScriptConverted which would handle System.Collections.Generic.List but it didn't get called by the deserializer.

This is horrible. I've specified the identifierGenerator as "Auto". Please see the above code. As a sidenote, I was trying to debug and seeing how the objects are getting retrieved from the database. Looks like the enrollmentgroupmembership records have the tierweight value populated. However if I look at the tierweight object, it doesn't have the enrollmentgroupmembership records. I'm puzzled. I think these two problems must be related. Maddy.
