  • Force save files all browsers - not open in browser window

    I'm after a simple solution to work in all browsers. For specific file types, or targeted links via a class: how can I get them to simply force download in all major browsers. I thought I found the perfect solution for apachce server - by adding this into the .htaccess. http://css-tricks.com/snippets/htaccess/force-files-to-download-not-open-in-browser/ AddType application/octet-stream .csv AddType application/octet-stream .xls AddType application/octet-stream .doc AddType application/octet-stream .avi AddType application/octet-stream .mpg AddType application/octet-stream .mov AddType application/octet-stream .pdf Seems to work in Firefox and Safari, but not chrome or IE (have not tested anything else) Can any one please help me with a solution on how to make links to force download the file, instead of opening in the browser, for ALL browsers. I can't seem to find a full browser proof solution. Is it not possible? Any links to tutorial or snippets would be awesome. My website if PHP based so can make it work with PHP if posible. Thanks

    On Linux, they are all read only, so no problem. But on MS Windows, what happens is like this: I get curious about the definition of the command isearch-forward, I type C-h f isearch-forward and click on the link isearch.el from the help to get to the definition of the function, and while I am reading its definition, I press C-h or C-c many times, but I set Caps Lock as another Ctrl key, so sometimes it happens that I release Caps Lock too early, in which case C-h or C-c becomes inserting h or c, sometimes I notice that and undo it, but sometimes I don't notice it, and I even save them all with C-x s. What is a good way to protect the built-in el files from me on MS Windows?

    i have to give the user the option to upload his own aspx and aspx.cs files on to the server, adjust the hyperlink to point to a page which would do the following display the aspx and aspx.cs files code onto the page without actually rendering the code the browser should not understand anything, and while reading the files to display them the method be such that nothing is processed on the server regarding the code within the files to prevent from unnecessary problems many user would try to cause. i have tried many ways of displaying it but it ends up on displaying the actual comments instead of the code. please suggest with links to examples how to achieve the above. please note main concentration is on asp.net and c# using vs08, so j script and ready-made tools be avoided if feasible thank you all

  • Need to find latitude and longitude of postcodes and store into my database

    Hey guys, Ive got a database full of UK Postcodes, now i'd like to be able to store the latitude and longitude of these specific postcodes along with the record with the database. Is there anyway that i can obtain this data free without violating any T&C's? I know i could do this using google maps api for each postcode, but i have way over 20,000 postcodes in this database and to get the lat and lng for each of these postcodes each time is not an option really.     I will be displaying news feeds from external websites on my website. So i need to open external links in those feeds in a new window, but give the user an option to return to my website. Basically I'm trying to replicate Google Images' technique of opening a link in a window with 2 frames - with the top frame having an option to "Remove Frame" and the bottom frame displaying the content of the link. Also, since the news feed will be dynamic, I don't want to hard-code anything. The code should be used automatically by any link appearing in the news feeds. Any ideas on how to do it?

  • Why is SVN better than VSS? [closed]

    I've heard soooo many people complain about VSS, and noooo people complaining about SVN. We use SVN on my work project. It's slow, regularly freezes up my IDE, and has wonky behavior like looking for a database server every time I right-click the Solution node in my Solution Explorer. When I used VSS, everything worked beautifully, except for access restrictions which I of course blame on the people who control access. VSS is built by Microsoft and thus has great integration with Visual Studio. SVN is written by pretty much anybody with some free time (right?) and thus kinda works most of the time... And I honestly get the impression they had a dozen different directions in the design instead of one. So why do I keep hearing that SVN is better than VSS?

    It's a bit complicated this one... Lets say I have a listing of PDF files displayed in the user's browser. Each filename is a link pointing not to the file, but to an ASP page, say <--a href="viewfile.asp?file=somefile.pdf">somefile.pdf</a> I want viewfile.asp to fetch the file (I've done that bit OK) but I then want the file to be loaded by the browser as if the user had opened the PDF file directly.     I am currently writing a formal research report, and I'll be including JavaScript and PHP code. None of the sections of code will be more than 25 lines (so they're mere snippets). There will be approx. half a dozen snippets, each of which will have a couple of paragraphs explaining what is happening in the code and a discussion on its pros/cons. Is there an accepted way of displaying code in research reports? I'm thinking in terms of font, spacing, whether the code should be displayed inside the document or in an appendix, and related details. I have no contact with the body the report will be submitted to, and they have no published guidelines on how to format code.

    Hello. I like to use the split window feature in Vim. However I cannot seem to drag drop new files into the different sections. Doing so will just open a new tab. I don't like using tabs as I still need to flick between them and not much different to using separate windows. Is there anyway I can change this behaviour? It works fine on Windows gVim and Im using the same vimrc file.

    We are changing from SourceSafe 2005 to visual svn. How can an exisiting project be added to a solution Example: I create solution1 with 3 projects and add to /trunk I create solution2 with 1 project and add to /trunk In solution1 I add existing project from solution2, but I cannot add to subversion. I get "out of working copy, use the VisualSVN-Set Working Copy root menu" In SourceSafe2005 it would just link, what is the procedure for VisualSVN? Branch? Regards _Eric

  • Speech Recognition Server Does Not Stay Open

    I am trying to create a simple program that loops for user speech input using com.apple.speech.recognitionserver. My code thus far is as follows: set user_response to "start" repeat while user_response is not equal to "Exit" tell application id "com.apple.speech.recognitionserver" set user_response to listen for {"Time", "Weather", "Exit"} with prompt "Good Morning" end tell if user_response = "Time" then set curr_time to time string of (the current date) set curr_day to weekday of (the current date) say "It is" say curr_time say "on" say curr_day say "day" else if user_response = "Weather" then say "It is hot outside. What do you expect?" end if end repeat say "Have a good day" If the above is run on my system it says good morning and it then pops up with the speech input system and waits for either Time, Weather, or Exit. They all do what they say they are going to do, but instead of looping if I say Time and Weather and asking again until I say exit the speechserver times out and never pops up again. Is there a way of either keeping that application open until the program ends or is applescript not capable of looping for user speech input?
