  • Problem using Flash Components in multiple SWC files

    [Edit: Short version - how do you properly handle namespace collisions in SWC files if one SWC has fewer classes from that namespace than another?] I have a rather large Flash application which I'm building in Flash Builder (because coding/debugging in the Flash IDE is... not good) and I've got a ton of external SWC files which I'm linking in to my application. This has worked well so far - the file size is on the large side, but it's a lot simpler than loading in SWFs, especially since I am extending most of the classes in each SWC and adding custom code that way (it's a very design-heavy app.) The problem I'm having is when I have Flash Components, like ComboBox or TextInput, in more than one SWC. Whichever SWC was compiled last will work fine, but the others will fail with errors like the following: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::MovieClip@1f21adc1 to fl.controls.TextInput. at flash.display::Sprite/constructChildren() at flash.display::Sprite() at flash.display::MovieClip() at com.company.design.login::LoginForm() at com.company.view::Login()[/Users/ken/Workspace/src/com/company/view/Login.as:22] at com.company.view::Main/showLogin()[/Users/ken/Workspace/src/com/company/view/Main.as:209] at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at com.company.view::Navigation/handleUIClick()[/Users/ken/Workspace/src/com/company/view/Navigation.as:88] I've been researching components, ComponentShim, etc. but I'm running up against a brick wall. I thought it might be the fact that some of the components had their skins modified in the source FLA, so I tried replacing them with the default skins, but that didn't seem to help. How can I ensure that I have the components imported and available to all my classes, yet still be able to skin them and include them in my various FLAs? (I am never creating new instances of them, they are all laid out by my designer.)

    Hi, Is this code solid? I've tried to use "using" etc. Basically a method to pass as sequenced list of SQL commands to be run against a Sqlite database. I assume it is true that in sqlite by default all commands run in a single connection are handled transactionally? Is this true? i.e. I should not have to (and haven't got in the code at the moment) a BeginTransaction, or CommitTransaction. However It only shows a top-level node (with the text "0") and childnodes "1", "2", "3" and "4" directly under the top-node. Am I missing something?     I'm learning Ruby on Rails through Micheal Hartl's tutorial. In my web application, I require two types of Users, called publishers and subscribers. Currently I have a publishers resource and a subscribers resource. I'd like both of them to be able to use the sessions resource for signin/signout. I'm looking for some direction on how to implement this. Should my publisher and subscriber resource inherit from the User resource, so that, for example, the following code works through polymorphism? def create user = User.find_by_email(params[:session][:email]) if user && user.authenticate(params[:session][:password]) # Sign the user in and redirect to the user's show page. else # Create an error message and re-render the signin form. end end The publisher and subscriber do not have many common fields and different capabilities, so I think they should be modeled as two separate resources, but how to have them share the Sessions resource?

    What I am trying to do is kind of like this: I have datatypes "user" and "article" for instance. I want to have relationships between these two, but in more than one way. So for instance, I'd like to let a user "like" or "bookmark" an article. So I need to have two relations in the database, one for users liking the article, and one for users bookmarking, so making a "user_article" table for instance won't be sufficient, correct? What is the best way of going about doing this?

    Hi, this is for an assignment so I'm not looking for code. I have to simulate a game where each player has turns and needs to 'pay attention' to what's going on. So far, i know I'll need two threads for each player, one that will sleep until the player's turn and the other paying attention. My question is: Should I work each player as a 'fork' and the threads on the fork, or just create some threads for the player and associate them somehow? It's the first time I've worked with concurrency, semaphores and threads so I'm not sure about the good practices and programming style. Thanks!

    I've been researching eCommerce payment gateways and service offerings, but I'm an eCommerce novice, so please excuse my ignorance. I wish to set up an eCommerce solution with the following requirements: User "subscribes" to the service on a yearly basis. This service includes a single product subscription for a set amount (let's say $50/yr). User can "subscribe" to additional product services for a lesser rate per year (let's say $25/yr). I will need to store a product service unique Id of some sort for each product subscription the user subscribes to in order to show them product unique information. I also need to prevent duplicates...for example, user can subscribe to product ABC and XYZ, but not 2 of ABC. Is PayPal the best solution for something like this? Is there a better solution? Any assistance is greatly appreciated, even if just links to specific tutorials or examples. Update: It looks like Chargify could be the perfect solution.

    Hi, Im trying to write some kind of multi protocol bot (jabber/irc) that would read messages from fifo file (one liners mostly) and then send them to irc channel and jabber contacts. So far, I managed to create two factories to connect to jabber and irc, and they seem to be working. However, I've problem with reading the fifo file - I have no idea how to read it in a loop (open file, read line, close file, jump to open file and so on) outside of reactor loop to get the data I need to send, and then get that data to reactor loop for sending in both protocols. I've been looking for information on how to do it in best way, but Im totally lost in the dark. Any suggestion/help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Multiple "pages" in GWT with human friendly URLs

    Hi. I'm playing with a GWT/GAE project which will have three different "pages", although it is not really pages in a GWT sense. The top views (one for each page) will have completely different layouts, but some of the widgets will be shared. One of the pages is the main page which is loaded by the default url (http://www.site.com), but the other two needs additional URL information to differentiate the page type. They also need a name parameter, (like http://www.site.com/project/project-name. There are at least two solutions to this that I'm aware of. Use GWT history mechanism and let page type and parameters (such as project name) be part of the history token. Use servlets with url-mapping patterns (like /project/*) The first choice might seem obvious at first, but it has several drawbacks. First, a user should be able to easily remember and type URL directly to a project. It is hard to produce a human friendly URL with history tokens. Second, I'm using gwt-presenter and this approach would mean that we need to support subplaces in one token, which I'd rather avoid. Third, a user will typically stay at one page, so it makes more sense that the page information is part of the "static" URL. Using servlets solves all these problems, but also creates other ones. So my first questions is, what is the best solution here? If I would go for the servlet solution, new questions pop up. It might make sense to split the GWT app into three separate modules, each with an entry point. Each servlet that is mapped to a certain page would then simply forward the request to the GWT module that handles that page. Since a user typically stays at one page, the browser only needs to load the js for that page. Based on what I've read, this solution is not really recommended. I could also stick with one module, but then GWT needs to find out which page it should display. It could either query the server or parse the URL itself. If I stick with one GWT module, I need to keep the page information stored on server side. Naturally I thought about sessions, but I'm not sure if its a good idea to mix page information with user data. A session usually lives between user login and logout, but in this case it would need different behavior. Would it be bad practise to handle this via sessions? The one GWT module + servlet solution also leads to another problem. If a user goes from a project page to the main page, how will GWT know that this has happened? The app will not be reloaded, so it will be treated as a simple state change. It seems rather ineffecient to have to check page info for every state change. Anyone care to guide me out of the foggy darkness that surrounds me? :-)

Stack Overflow has this functionality but it seems like they need the user to manually say "this account google account is associated with that yahoo one". Is there no way to do this automatically?

    Hi all~. I made a multi files downloader. I implemented NSURLConnection using NSOperationQueue. NSOpetationQueue has many NSURLConnection operations. and, set MaxConcurrentOperationCount to 10. I thought my code is right, But after run the project, it was wrong. there are some connection error has occured. files url were right. and file download was completed. but downloading files, occur "timed out" error. It is so serious. I tested it with 8 files, and those total size is only 3M. But total download time is 2minutes ~!!! one file download spends only a few second. (2~3 s) but multi files download occur many overburden!! (2 minutes) I don't know why it is... Do Anyone know what reason is?

    I'm creating a domain model where entities often (but not always) have a member of type ActionLog. ActionLog is a simple class which allows for an audit trail of actions being performed on an instance. Each action is recorded as an ActionLogEntry instance. ActionLog is implemented (approximately) as follows: public class ActionLog { public IEnumerable<ActionLogEntry> Entries { get { return EntriesCollection; } } protected ICollection<ActionLogEntry> EntriesCollection { get; set; } public void AddAction(string action) { // Append to entries collection. } } What I would like is to re-use this class amongst my entities and have the entries map to different tables based on which class they are logged against. For example: public class Customer { public ActionLog Actions { get; protected set; } } public class Order { public ActionLog Actions { get; protected set; } } This design is suitable for me in the application, however I can't see a clear way to map this scenario to a database with NHibernate. I typically use Fluent NHibernate for my configuration, but I'm happy to accept answers in more general HBM xml.

  • Multiple CodeSnippet in an XML .snippet file

    I'm attempting to supplement the help features for my code by providing other developers with code snippets. These produce skeletons of code which demonstrate how to use/call my classes or methods. I've created a .snippet file and have placed it in the "%Visual Studio Folder%\Code Snippets\Visual Basic\My Snippets" folder. I've used the Code Snippets Manager and ensured that it included this folder so that I can access the snippets. Everything works well when I have 1 CodeSnippet tag within the root CodeSnippets tag.... When I add more than one CodeSnippet tag to the file (each with their own title, and their own code example) I'm experiencing something strange. The first CodeSnippet I've added contains code for adding something to my system, the second contains code for editing something in my system, and the third deleting something from the system. When I use the code snippet by right clicking and selecting "Insert Code Snippet", only the first code snippet in the file shows up as an option. When I select it, the code in the first CodeSnippet is inserted....but so is the code within the other CodeSnippet tags. Do you have to have a separate XML .snippet file for each code snippet you want to make available? After reading through MSDN about creating Code Snippets I was under the impression that this could all be done within one file. It seems that I'm not understanding something very basic here and would love to find the answer but apparently Code Snippets are under used so finding the answer has proven to be a little trickier than I first thought it would be.   • AJAX binds jquery events multiple times

    Hi... I have a masterpage setup, with a pageLoad in the topmost masterpage, which calls pageLoad2 for nested masterpages which calls pageLoad3 for content pages. In my content page I have a jquery click event and in my nested masterpage I have a web user control. Whenever I use the user control in the nested masterpage, it rebinds the click event in the content page (undoubtedly because the pageLoad3 is called again), but this makes the click event fire twice on a single click. The problem gets worse the higher up masterpages you go (eg. fires 3 times if user control from topmost masterpage is called). Can anyone tell me how to make sure it only binds the jquery events once?

    Hey all, I have 2 sets of data (Ax, Ay; Bx, By) - I'd like to plot both of these data sets on a scatter plot with different colors, but can't seem to get it to work because it seems scatter() does not work like plot(). Is it possible to do this? I've tried... scatter(Ax, Ay, 'g', Bx, By, 'b') And scatter(Ax, Ay, 'g') scatter(Bx, By, 'b') The first way returns an error. The latter only plots the Bx/By data.     I have spent a whole day trying various ways using 'AddOnPreRenderCompleteAsync' and 'RegisterAsyncTask' but no success so far. I succeeded making the call to the DB asynchronous using 'BeginExecuteReader' and 'EndExecuteReader' but that is missing the point. The asynch handling should not be the call to the DB which in my case is fast, it should be afterwards, during the 'while' loop, while calling an external web-service. I think the simplified pseudo code will explain best: (Note: the connection string is using 'MultipleActiveResultSets') "Select ID, UserName from MyTable" 'Open connection to DB ExecuteReader(); if (DR.HasRows) {     while (DR.Read())     {         'Call external web-service         'and get current Temperature of each UserName - DR["UserName"].ToString()         'Update my local DB         Update MyTable set Temperature = ValueFromWebService where UserName =                                       DR["UserName"]         CmdUpdate.ExecuteNonQuery();     }     'Close connection etc } Accessing the DB is fast. Getting the returned result from the external web-service is slow and that at least should be handled Asynchnously. If each call to the web service takes just 1 second, assuming I have only 100 users it will take minimum 100 seconds for the DB update to complete, which obviously is not an option. There eventually should be thousands of users (currently only 2). Currently everything works, just very synchnously :) Thoughts to myself: Maybe my way of approaching this is wrong? Maybe the entire process should be called Asynchnously Many thanx
