  • Is it not possible to print a pdf from a hyperlink?

    - by andrew
I have looked for weeks and I keep hitting dead ends. I know you can create a text or image link and tell it to "print page" in a browser. But so far, I can't get it to print a document, specifically a pdf. I would like the print dialog to show after the link is clicked and yes, the pdf linked to has been printed. Why does this seem to be such an impossible feat? I have seen it work in a Flash movie, but since I cannot access the native file I cannot see how it was done. Any advice? Thanks.

  • Is it possible to create a C++ factory system that can create an instance of any "registered" object

    - by chrensli
Hello, I've spent my entire day researching this topic, so it is with some scattered knowledge on the topic that i come to you with this inquiry. Please allow me to describe what I am attempting to accomplish, and maybe you can either suggest a solution to the immediate question, or another way to tackle the problem entirely. I am trying to mimic something related to how XAML files work in WPF, where you are essentially instantiating an object tree from an XML definition. If this is incorrect, please inform. This issue is otherwise unrelated to WPF, C#, or anything managed - I solely mention it because it is a similar concept.. So, I've created an XML parser class already, and generated a node tree based on ObjectNode objects. ObjectNode objects hold a string value called type, and they have an std::vector of child ObjectNode objects. The next step is to instantiate a tree of objects based on the data in the ObjectNode tree. This intermediate ObjectNode tree is needed because the same ObjectNode tree might be instantiated multiple times or delayed as needed. The tree of objects that is being created is such that the nodes in the tree are descendants of a common base class, which for now we can refer to as MyBase. Leaf nodes can be of any type, not necessarily derived from MyBase. To make this more challenging, I will not know what types of MyBase derived objects might be involved, so I need to allow for new types to be registered with the factory. I am aware of boost's factory. Their docs have an interesting little design paragraph on this page: o We may want a factory that takes some arguments that are forwarded to the constructor, o we will probably want to use smart pointers, o we may want several member functions to create different kinds of objects, o we might not necessarily need a polymorphic base class for the objects, o as we will see, we do not need a factory base class at all, o we might want to just call the constructor - without #new# to create an object on the stack, and o finally we might want to use customized memory management. I might not be understanding this all correctly, but that seems to state that what I'm trying to do can be accomplished with boost's factory. But all the examples I've located, seem to describe factories where all objects are derived from a base type. Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

  • Is it possible to use os.walk over SSH?

    - by LeoB
I'm new to Python so forgive me if this is basic, I've searched but can't find an answer. I'm trying to convert a Perl script into Python (3.x) which connects to a remote server and copies the files in a given directory to the local machine. Integrity of the transfer is paramount and there are several steps built-in to ensure a complete and accurate transfer. The first step is to get a complete listing of the files to be passed to rsync. The Perl script has the following lines to accomplish this: @dir_list = `ssh user@host 'find $remote_dir -type f -exec /bin/dirname {} \\;'`; @file_list = `ssh user@host 'find $remote_dir -type f -exec /bin/basename {} \\;'`; The two lists are then joined to create $full_list. Rather than open two separate ssh instances I'd like to open one and use os.walk to get the information using: for remdirname, remdirnames, remfilesnames in os.walk(remotedir): for remfilename in remfilesnames: remfulllist.append(os.path.join(remdirname, remfilename)) Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • Is it possible to produce a small preview or thumbnail image of a Crystal report in code?

    - by Lawrence Johnston
I'm using Crystal to display the reports in my project, and I'd like to be able to display a small preview or thumbnail image of the report to the user when he or she is picking a report to display from my UI. Is there any way to produce these thumbnails dynamically from code? The user has the option to add or remove reports by adding or removing them from the reports folder, so just making all the thumbnail images by hand isn't really an option.

  • javascript/html/php: Is it possible to insert a value into a form with Ajax?

    - by user1260310
I have a form where users enter some text manually. Then I'd like to let the users choose a tag from a database through AJAX, not unlike how tag suggestions appear in the SO question form. While the div where the ajax call places the tag is inside the form, it does not seem to register and the tag is not picked up by the form. Am I missing something in my code, is this impossible or, if impossible there a better way to do this? Thanks for any suggestions. Here is code: html <form method="post" action="enterdata.php"> <input type="text" name="text">Enter text here. <div id="inserttags"></div><a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="getTags()";>Get tags</a> <form type="button" name="submit" value="Enter Text and Tag"> </form> javascript getTags() { various Ajax goes here, then //following line inserts value into div of html document.getElementById("inserttags").innerHTML=xmlhttp.responseText; // a bit more ajax, then following pulls tag from db xmlhttp.open("GET","findtags.php",true); xmlhttp.send(); } //end function php //gettags.php //first pull tag from db. Then: echo 'input type="text" name="tag" value= "html">Enter tag'; //above output gets inserted in div and is visible on page. Though the above output is visible on page, the form does not seem to pick it up when you click "Enter Text and Tag" to submit the form.

  • In XHR, is it possible to distinguish network errors from cross-origin errors?

    - by greim
http://www.w3.org/TR/access-control/ Reading the CORS spec linked above, it seems to be the case that it's impossible to reliably distinguish between a generic "network error" and a cross-origin access denied error. From the spec: If there is a network error Apply the network error steps. Perform a resource sharing check. If it returns fail, apply the network error steps. http://www.w3.org/TR/access-control/#simple-cross-origin-request0 In my testing, I couldn't locate any features of Firefox's implementation that seem to indicate that the resource sharing check definitely failed. It just switches readyState to 4 and sets status to 0. Ultimately I'd like the ability to pass a success callback, a general fail callback, and an optional cross-origin fail callback, to my function. Thanks for any help or insight.

  • Is it possible to have a variadic function in C with no non-variadic parameter?

    - by Tim
I have the following function: void doStuff(int unusedParameter, ...) { va_list params; va_start(params, unusedParameter); /* ... */ va_end(params); } As part of a refactor, I'd like to remove the unused parameter without otherwise changing the implementation of the function. As far as I can tell, it's impossible to use va_start when you don't have a last non-variadic parameter to refer to. Is there any way around this? Background: It is in fact a C++ program, so I could use some operator-overloading magic as suggested here, but I was hoping not to have to change the interface at this point. The existing function does its work by requiring that the variable argument list be null-terminated, and scanning for the NULL, therefore it doesn't need a leading argument to tell it how many arguments it has.

  • Is it possible to use the CommonJS libraries yet?

    - by Jon Winstanley
I am interested in getting started with CommonJS. With JavaScript frameworks getting faster all the time, and parsing engines and compilers making JavaScript incredibly quick, it is surprising that a project such as CommonJS has not been initiated sooner. What steps are involved in getting a test project up and running with what has been created so far?

  • Python - Is it possible to get the name of the chained function?

    - by user1326876
I'm working on a class that basically allows for method chaining, for setting some attrbutes for different dictionaries stored. The syntax is as follows: d = Test() d.connect().setAttrbutes(Message=Blah, Circle=True, Key=True) But there can also be other instances, so, for example: d = Test() d.initialise().setAttrbutes(Message=Blah) Now I believe that I can overwrite the "setattrbutes" function; I just don't want to create a function for each of the dictionary. Instead I want to capture the name of the previous chained function. So in the example above I would then be given "connect" and "initialise" so I know which dictionary to store these inside. I hope this makes sense. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

  • C# - Is it possible to start my project with a class instead of a form?

    - by Irro
I want my project to be started through an class instead of a form, is there any way to do this? Or to be more precise is there any good way to make sure that the first class, except Program, that is started isn't a form-class. I tried to change to my class in Program.main() but it looks like Application.run() needs a ApplicationContext. I guess that I could change the Program-class to start another class and let that class start the form with Application.run() but I think that it will cause a lot of problem since I don't want the same form to be started first each time and Application.run() have to be used at least once and at most once. So I think it will be hard to keep track of if Application.run() has been used or not. Another question that might be even more important; Is this a good way to do things in .net? The reason I want to do so is because I want to create some sort of MVC project where the class I want to start with is the controller and all forms I'll use will be views.

  • Is it possible to make ListView display a text obtained through its ListViewItem.Tag?

    - by Dimitri C.
I'd like to fill System.Windows.Forms.ListView with the items I've stored in a separate System.Collections.Generics.List<. I would like to avoid to store the data twice, once in the List< and once as a string in ListViewItem. Is there a way to make ListViewItem use some callback function to obtain the text to put in its columns from the Tag property, instead of using its Text property?

  • Is it possible to use Data Annotations to validate parameters passed to an Action method of a Contro

    - by dannie.f
    I am using Data Annotations to validate my Model in ASP.NET MVC. This works well for action methods that has complex parameters e.g, public class Params { [Required] string Param1 {get; set;} [StringLength(50)] string Param2 {get; set;} } ActionResult MyAction(Params params) { If(ModeState.IsValid) { // Do Something } } What if I want to pass a single string to an Action Method (like below). Is there a way to use Data Annotations or will I have to wrap the string into a class? ActionResult MyAction(string param1, string param2) { If(ModeState.IsValid) { // Do Something } }

  • C++, is it possible to call a constructor directly, without new?

    - by osgx

  • Is it possible to see the underlying implementation of built in functions of matlab?

    - by user198729
I'm using this example code to grayscale an image, but the result is not right: I = imread('coins.png'); level = graythresh(I); BW = im2bw(I,level); imshow(BW) Where to see how graythresh is actually implemented? BTW,is there a reason for using matlab feels so alike with python? Or is it known that graythresh doesn't work well for images with little spatial resolution(like 62*21 ones)?

  • Is possible to initialize an object in javascript in this way?

    - by Kucebe
I'd like to initialize an object in javascript calling directly a method that belongs to it: var obj = (function(){ return{ init: function(){ console.log("initialized!"); }, uninit: function(x){ console.log("uninitialized!"); } }; }).init(); //later obj.uninit(); obj.init(); This specific example doesn't work, is there something similar?

  • Possible to implement an IsViewPortVisible dependencyproperty for an item in an ItemsControl?

    - by Matt H.
I need to enable/disable spell checking in a richtextbox in an ItemsControl, based on whether the RichTextBox is visible in the ItemsControl's Scrollviewer. I think the route is to implement an IsViewPortVisible dependency property and wire an event handler for a changed event... I found this article that describes the lengthy process for determining if an item is in the viewport: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/wpf/thread/e6ccfec3-3dc0-4702-9d0d-1cfa55ecfc90 Any ideas on where to start? I'm familiar with implementing my own dependency property for the sake of simple bindings (integers, strings, etc...). I have no idea how to undergo something like this though) This is the end result I'm hoping for: <DataTemplate> <Grid> ...Stuff in the Grid <local:CustomRichTextBox SpellCheck.IsEnabled={Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self}, Path=IsViewPortVisible}/> </Grid> </DataTemplate> Help will be EXTREMELY appreciated... you'll be saving me about 500MB in memory consumption while the program is running!!!! :)

  • Is dynamic evaluation of xpath variable string possible using .net 2.0 xslt implementation?

    - by Crocked
Hi, I'm trying to evaluate an xpath varable I'm building dynamically based on the position of the node. I can create the xpath string in a variable but when I select the value of this just get the string and not the node set I need. I use the following to create the xpath <xsl:variable name="xpathstring" select="normalize-space(concat(&quot;//anAttribute[@key='pos&quot;,position(),&quot;']&quot;))"/> and try to output the value with the following. <xsl:value-of select="$xpathstring"/> If I execute the xpath in my debugger I get the nodeset but in my xml output only get the xpath string which looks like this //anAttribute[@key='pos1'] I had a look at exslt dyn:evaluate which seems to enable this but this seems to be only supported by certain processors and doesn't provide a standalone implementation or at least as far as I could see (currently using the standard .net 2.0 xslt whihc is only xslt 1.0 as far as I recall) Is there anyway to handle this without changing processor? Kind Regards, Crocked

  • Is it possible to modify the value of a record's primary key in Oracle when child records exist?

    - by Chris Farmer
I have some Oracle tables that represent a parent-child relationship. They look something like this: create table Parent ( parent_id varchar2(20) not null primary key ); create table Child ( child_id number not null primary key, parent_id varchar2(20) not null, constraint fk_parent_id foreign key (parent_id) references Parent (parent_id) ); This is a live database and its schema was designed long ago under the assumption that the parent_id field would be static and unchanging for a given record. Now the rules have changed and we really would like to change the value of parent_id for some records. For example, I have these records: Parent: parent_id --------- ABC123 Child: child_id parent_id -------- --------- 1 ABC123 2 ABC123 And I want to modify ABC123 in these records in both tables to something else. It's my understanding that one cannot write an Oracle update statement that will update both parent and child tables simultaneously, and given the FK constraint, I'm not sure how best to update my database. I am currently disabling the fk_parent_id constraint, updating each table independently, and then enabling the constraint. Is there a better, single-step way to update this content?
