• SQL Querying for Threaded Messages

  My site has a messaging feature where one user may message another. The messages support threading - a parent message may have any number of children but only one level deep. The messages table looks like this: Messages - Id (PK, Auto-increment int) - UserId (FK, Users.Id) - FromUserId (FK, Users.Id) - ParentMessageId (FK to Messages.Id) - MessageText (varchar 200) I'd like to show messages on a page with each 'parent' message followed by a collapsed view of the children messages. Can I use the GROUP BY clause or similar construct to retrieve parent messages and children messages all in one query? Right now I am retrieving parent messages only, then looping through them and performing another query for each to get all related children messages. I'd like to get messages like this: Parent1 Child1 Child2 Child3 Parent2 Child1 Parent3 Child1 Child2

  Hi! I have a couple of tables (mySQL) that i would like to update with the help of Doctrine. The products table id is auto-incrementing, and here's a brief description on what I would like to do: $prod = new Products(); $prod->type = '0'; $categ = new CategoriesToProducts(); $categ->cat = '111'; $categ->product = $prod->id; $conn = Doctrine_Manager::connection(); $conn->flush(); How can I do this while using flush? Using a regular save is an alternative, but there will be multiple transactions while doing such. I have tried to find a Mysql_insert_id version for doctrine, but without any luck. Thanks!

  I'm debugging from the python console and would like to reload a module every time I make a change so I don't have to exit the console and re-enter it. I'm doing: >>> from project.model.user import * >>> reload(user) but I receive: >>>NameError: name 'user' is not defined What is the proper way to reload the entire user class? Is there a better way to do this, perhaps auto-updating while debugging? Thanks.

  I have a situation similar to the following question: Insert Data Into SQL Table Where my scenario differs is that I have a non-auto-incrementing primary key field that can have a range between 1000 and 1999. We only have about a hundred values in it thus far, but the maximum value has already been taken (1999), and there are gaps in the numbering sequence. Thus, I need to find a value that is between 1000-1999 and not taken. For instance, if my current values are, for example, 1000, 1001, 1003, and 1999, I would want the query to return 1002.

• Win XP cannot connect (or see) my wifi network, but can see others

  since yesterday I have a strange wifi problem with my pc. I have a wireless linksys router setup that worked fine for many months, now since yesterday my pc won't connect to the wifi signal anymore. The strange thing is, my macbook pro still connects fine. SSID is broadcasting, but my windows XP doens't see it, I have all signal modes set to "auto". Windows XP sees all my neighbours wifi networks, so the wifi card isn't broken or anything. Any idea what can be wrong here?

  I was testing my website inside the Android emulator with the Droid Skin (240 dpi). I have the following css: #container { position: relative; width: 854px; height: 480px; background: #000; margin: auto; } #container li { position: relative; list-style: none; width: 201px; height: 110px; padding-left: 10px; padding-top:10px; padding-bottom:10px; overflow: hidden; float: left; z-index: 2; } The display is not what I expected obviously because I am defining everything in px (when I should have been using dip but css does not allow dip). How can I convert my px to something that is suitable for Android? Any suggestions?

• SQL 2008 GUID column is all 0's

  I'm hoping this is a simple goof I did on my end ... I have a table in my database set up like so: column name: widget_guid data type: uniqueidentifier allow nulls: false default value: newid() identity: false row guid: true When records are created (via LINQ to SQL) that the values in this field are formatted as a GUID but contain all 0's My assumption was that when a new record was created, that a guid would be autogenerated for that column, much like an auto-incrementing row id. Is this not true? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  Lets say I have domain model with Automobile and Wheels. Wheels is a List of Wheels Wheels has a many-to-one relationship to Automobile. If I get an object back from Hibernate and it has 4 wheels. I take that object remove the 4 wheels and add 4. And then Save. If I ask Hibernate for the object again and it returns an auto with 8 wheels... what are we doing wrong? I don't have access to the source for a few days but want to give our Java devs a push in the right direction. Thanks.

  I'm new to Javascript and jQuery, but I'm learning. Here is what I'd like to accomplish: I have a row of navigation "pull-down" tabs that I'd like to animate. Some sliders will have text links to sub-pages and some will not. The bottom portion of the tab should be clickable to go to the main page. Then the sub-page, text links should also be clickable.   IE displays a default scrollbar on the page, which appears even if the content is too short to require a scrollbar. The typical way to remove this scrollbar (if not needed), is to add this to your css: HTML { height: 100%; overflow: auto; } I'm trying to do the same thing in javascript (without requiring that in my CSS), but i can't seem to find a way to get access to the html element. I know i can access the body element with document.body, but that doesn't seem to be sufficient, i need the wrapping html element. Any tips?

• Simplest way to extend doctrine for MVC Models

  Im developing my own framework that uses namespaces. Doctrine is already integrated into my auto loading system and im now at the stage where ill be creating the model system for my application Usually i would create a simple model like so: namespace Application\Models; class Users extends \Framework\Models\Database{} which would inherit all the default database model methods, But with Doctrine im still learning how it all works, as its not just a simple DBAL.   I have to read the content from HTML file and then the parameters for different heading should be entered into the form in php and then i need to save the page and submit it so that it will be saved in the databse. I need to automate this whole process since i have approx 2000 HTML files which should be read and should be entered in a form in PHP. Do you have any idea about any tool which can help in this process. small idea will be also helpful. • Large Video Uploads via a website

  Some of the problems that can happen are timeouts, disconnections, and not being able to resume a file and having to start from the beginning. Assuming these files are up to around 5gigs in size, what is the best solution for dealing with this problem? I'm using a Drupal 6 install for the website. Some of my constraints due to the server setup I have to deal with: Shared hosting with max 200 connections at a time (unlimited disk space) Shared hosting. Unable to create users through an API (so can't automatically generate ftp accounts) I do have the ability to run cron-type scripts via a Drupal module. My initial thought was to create ftp users based off of Drupal accounts and requiring them to download an ftp client for their OS of choice. But the lack of API to auto-create ftp accounts and the inability to do it from command line kind of hinder that solution. If there's a workaround someone can think of, let me know! Thanks

  I hava a simple program about video recording . I use the surfaceView to show the preview screen. and I also want to put some buttons on the screen. I put all the component mentioned above into a XML file which is "ipcam.xml" I use MediaRecorder , SurfaceView , SurfaceHolder to complete this program because the preview screen does not orientate correctly when I rotate my phone. so I use "setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE);" but , the button in the program is always in LANDSCAPE direction . it will not auto change direction when I rotate my phone , but the preview is ok!! so is there anyway to solve this problem. • EntityDataSource Unable to configure to Entity Model

  I'm doing my first test asp.net3.5 app using EntityDataSource. I've got the basic project built and the Entity model created and compiled. Database is a local sqlexpress one in app_data directory. When I put the <asp:EntityDataSource /> control on the page and try to configure it, I'm getting the message "The list of named connections could not be loaded because the configuration could not be opened". At this point, everything in the project is "auto-created" by Visual Studio 2008sp1. I confused as I cannot find any information on how to correct from this message.

• FTP/SFTP module for .NET

  I am designing an auto downloader using .NET and C#. I was wondering if there is a decent/robust FTP/SFTP module out there that I can use, preferably free of charge. EDIT: I probably should've noted that I am looking for answer from somebody who tried several and found one that works very well. I currently use .NET wrapper for libcurl for FTP and it does not behave right. For example when I connect to FTP site with Filezilla and provide a path, it finds directory just fine. With libcurl, i get a header for 404 page saying path cannot be found. I am guessing that Filezilla gets 'home' directory correctly, and libcurl puts me to the root (i tried no path, and i had no permissions to access that directory). But anyways, I just don't know enough about FTP itself, so I would like something that just works. Thanks!
