  • One fix for all IE6 problems

    - by Victor
    Is there a one fix solution for all IE6 problems? One HTC/jQuery file that fixes IE6 problems like PNG, background position, hover, (even) rounded corners... I'm just tired to look for all fixes, test them and put them seperately.

  • IE8 Accordion menu is throwing out some weird bugs

    - by Qwibble
    I have an accordion side menu in my latest project that works in all modern browsers properly, apart from ie8. In Ie8, using the menu and clicking results in random padding and margins to be added and sometimes disappear for no apparent reason. I can't find any bit of jquery code that would potentially cause this to happen which is a pain. Even more confusing is the fact that this doesn't happen in Ie7 =S Can anyone here replicate this bug, and see what the problem is? Project Demo to view in ie8

    I'm trying to run the code from http://jsfiddle.net/ddole/AC5mP/13/ on my machine and the approach I've use is below or here. Do you know why that code doesn't work on my machine. Firebug doesn't help me and I can't solve the problem. I think that I need another pair of eyes :((( <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>jQuery UI Dialog - Modal form</title> <link type="text/css" href="css/ui-lightness/jquery-ui-1.8.21.custom.css" rel="stylesheet" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.7.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-ui-1.8.21.custom.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" > jQuery(function($) { $('.helpDialog').hide(); $('.helpButton').each(function() { $.data(this, 'dialog', $(this).next('.helpDialog').dialog({ autoOpen: false, modal: true, width: 300, height: 250, buttons: { "Save": function() { alert($('.helpText:last').val()); $(this).dialog( "close" ); }, Cancel: function() { $(this).dialog( "close" ); } } }) ); }).click(function() { $.data(this, 'dialog').dialog('open'); return false; }); }); </script> </head> <body> <span class="helpButton">Button</span> <div class="helpDialog"> <input type="text" class="helpText" /> </div> <span class="helpButton">Button 2</span> <div class="helpDialog"> <input type="text" class="helpText" /> </div> <span class="helpButton">Button 3</span> <div class="helpDialog"> <input type="text" class="helpText" /> </div> <span class="helpButton">Button 4</span> <div class="helpDialog"> <input type="text" class="helpText" /> </div> <span class="helpButton">Button 5</span> <div class="helpDialog"> <input type="text" class="helpText" /> </div> </body>

  • Stretch UL to fill the entire DIV

    - by Interfaith
    There is a similar post: Stretch horizontal ul to fit width of div But mine is a little bit tricky, as I have tried the above example but failed. My code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-… <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title></title> <script type='text/javascript' src='https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/li… <script> function mainmenu(){ $(" #nav ul ").css({display: "none"}); // Opera Fix $(" #nav li").hover(function(){ $(this).find('ul:first').css({visibi… "visible",display: "none"}).show(400); },function(){ $(this).find('ul:first').css({visibi… "hidden"}); }); } $(document).ready(function(){ mainmenu(); }); </script> <style> body{ font-size:0.85em; font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } #nav, #nav ul{ margin:0; padding:0; list-style-type:none; list-style-position:outside; position:relative; line-height:1.5em; display: table; width: 100%; } #nav a{ display:block; padding:10px 15px 10px 15px; border:1px solid #fff; color:#fff; text-align: center; margin:0; text-decoration:none; background: #C34328; border-top:1px solid #EF593B; -moz-box-shadow:0px 3px 4px #591E12 inset; -webkit-box-shadow:0px 3px 4px #591E12 inset; -box-shadow:0px 3px 4px #591E12 inset; } #nav a:hover{ background-color:#fff; color:#333; } #nav li{ float:left; position:relative; } #nav ul { position:absolute; display:none; width:12em; top:3.2em; } #nav li ul a{ width:12em; height:auto; float:left; } #nav ul ul{ top:auto; } #nav li ul ul { left:12em; margin:0px 0 0 10px; } </style> </head> <body> <div style="width: 980px; border: 1px black solid;"> <ul id="nav"> <li><a href="#">Find a Doctor</a></li> <li><a href="#">Why Interfaith</a></li> <li><a href="#">For Patients & Visitors</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">3.1 jQuery</a></li> <li><a href="#">3.2 Mootools</a></li> <li><a href="#">3.3 Prototype</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">Medical Services</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Behavioral Health</a></li> <li><a href="#">Clinical Laboratory</a></li> <li><a href="#">Dentistry</a></li> <li><a href="#">Emergency</a></li> <li><a href="#">Gynecology</a></li> <li><a href="#">Medicine</a></li> <li><a href="#">Pastoral</a></li> <li><a href="#">Pediatrics</a></li> <li><a href="#">Physical Medicine & Rehab</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">Medical Trainings</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Medical Training</a></li> <li><a href="#">Behavioral Health</a></li> <li><a href="#">Predoctoral Externship</a></li> <li><a href="#">Podiatric Residency</a></li> <li><a href="#">Dental Residency</a></li> <li><a href="#">Pulmonary Medicine</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">Contact</a></li> </ul> </div> </body> </html> Can someone tell me where I have to edit to complete the code?   • scrollTo (jQuery) won't work in firefox

    - by William
    For some reason, firefox seems to ignore my scrollTo function even though it works in chrome and safari. Here's an example link: http://blog.rainbird.me/post/2358248459/blowholes-are-awesome Chrome and Safari will automatically scroll to the top of the image (with an offset of 20 pixels) It doesn't work in firefox. I'm baffled! code: $(document).ready(function() { $(".photoShell img").lazyload({ placeholder: "http://william.rainbird.me/boston-polaroid/white.gif", threshold: 200 }); window.viewport = { height: function() { return $(window).height(); }, width: function() { return $(window).width(); }, scrollTop: function() { return $(window).scrollTop(); }, scrollLeft: function() { return $(window).scrollLeft(); } }; $(".photoShell img").hide(); $(".photoShell .caption").hide(); $(".photoShell img").load(function() { var maxWidth = viewport.width() - 40; // Max width for the image if(maxWidth > 960){ maxWidth = 960; } var maxHeight = viewport.height() - 50; // Max height for the image var ratio = 0; // Used for aspect ratio var width = $(this).width(); // Current image width var height = $(this).height(); // Current image height // Check if the current width is larger than the max if(width > maxWidth){ ratio = maxWidth / width; // get ratio for scaling image $(this).css("width", maxWidth); // Set new width $(this).css("height", height * ratio); // Scale height based on ratio height = height * ratio; // Reset height to match scaled image width = width * ratio; // Reset width to match scaled image } // Check if current height is larger than max if(height > maxHeight){ ratio = maxHeight / height; // get ratio for scaling image $(this).css("height", maxHeight); // Set new height $(this).css("width", width * ratio); // Scale width based on ratio width = width * ratio; // Reset width to match scaled image } $(this).parents('div.photoShell').css("width", $(this).width() + 22); $(this).parents('div.photoShell').addClass('loaded'); $(this).next(".caption").show(); var scrollNum = $(this).parents('div.photoShell').offset().top; $.scrollTo(scrollNum - 20, {duration: 700, axis:"y"}); $(this).fadeIn("slow"); }).each(function() { // trigger the load event in case the image has been cached by the browser if(this.complete) $(this).trigger('load'); });

  • how to make DIV show up on top of other Divs

    - by feelexit
    I upload my code on jsFiddle, you can see it there. http://jsfiddle.net/SrT2U/2/ When you click on the link, the hidden FAQ section will show up, and it will push other divs down. But that is not what I want, I need all other divs stay where they are, and my hidden FAQ section just float on the top. Not sure how to do it. Not even sure if this should be done in HTML, CSS or jQuery. My jQuery code: $(function(){ $(".OpenTopMessage").click(function () { $("#details").slideToggle("slow"); }); }); HTML code: <div style="border: 1px solid #000;"> <span>link</span> <span>&nbsp;&nbsp;|&nbsp;&nbsp;</span> <span>link</span> <span>&nbsp;&nbsp;|&nbsp;&nbsp;</span> <span>link</span> <span>&nbsp;&nbsp;|&nbsp;&nbsp;</span> <span>link</span> <span>&nbsp;&nbsp;|&nbsp;&nbsp;</span> <span>link</span> <span>&nbsp;&nbsp;|&nbsp;&nbsp;</span> </div> <div id="faqBox"> <table width="100%"> <tr><td><a href="#" id="openFAQ" class="OpenTopMessage">this is hte faq section</a></td> </tr> </table> <div id="details" style="display:none"> <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/> the display style property is set to none to ensure that the element no longer affects the layout of the page <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/> </div> </div> <br/><br/> <div style="background:#c00;">other stuff heren the height reaches 0 after a hiding animation, the display style property is set to </div>

  • Why doesn't the .click() not work in this instance?

    - by Deshiknaves
    Basically what this does is fadeIn pre-existing divs and then loads an image. When the image is loaded it then appends that into one of the pre-existing divs. Then it appends a new div with an id of xButton. Then later it $('#xButton').click() should hide the 3 divs. However it just doesn't work. If I change the click() to either #modalImage or #overlay, it works but just not for the #xButton. I would really like to figure out why its not working and how I should be doing this instead. Thanks. $(function(){ $('#container a').click(function(e){ e.preventDefault(); var id = $(this).attr('href'), img = new Image(); $('#overlay').fadeIn(function(){ $('#modalImage').fadeIn(); }); $(img).load(function(){ $(this).hide(); $('#modalImage').removeClass('loader').append(this); $(this).fadeIn(function(){ var ih = $(this).outerHeight(), iw = $(this).outerWidth(), newH = ($(window).height()/10)*7, newW = ($(window).width()/10)*7; if (ih >= iw && ih >= newH) { $(this).css('height',newH + 'px'); $(this).css('width', 'auto'); } else if (ih >= iw && newH > ih) { $(this).css('height', ih + 'px'); $(this).css('width', 'auto'); } else if (iw > ih && iw >= newW) { if ((newW / (iw / ih)) > newH) { $(this).css('width', 'auto'); $(this).css('height', newH + 'px'); } else { $(this).css('width', newW + 'px'); $(this).css('height', 'auto'); } } else { $(this).css('width', iw + 'px'); $(this).css('height', 'auto'); } var padW = ($(window).width() - $(this).outerWidth()) / 2, padH = ($(window).height() - $(this).outerHeight()) / 2; console.log (padH + ' ' + padW); $(this).css('top', padH); $(this).css('left', padW); if($('#overlay').is(":visible") == true) { ih = ih + 4; $('<div id="xButton">x</div>').appendTo('#modalImage'); if (padH >= 0) { $('#xButton').css('top', padH - 4).css('right', padW - 65); } else { $('#xButton').css('top', '20px').css('right', padW - 65); } } }); }).attr('src', id); }); $('#xButton').click(function(){ $(this).hide(); $('#overlay').fadeOut(function(){ $('#modalImage img').css('top', '-9999px').remove(); $('#xButton').remove(); $('#modalImage').addClass('loader'); }); }); });

  • Inheritance of jQuery's prototype partially fails

    - by user1065745
    I want to use Coffeescript to create an UIObject class. This class should inherit from jQuery, so that instances of UIObject can be used as if they where created with jQuery. class UIObject isObject: (val) -> typeof val is "object" constructor: (tag, attributes) -> @merge jQuery(tag, attributes), this @UIObjectProperties = {} merge: (source, destination) -> for key of source if destination[key] is undefined destination[key] = source[key] else if @isObject(source[key]) @merge(source[key], destination[key]) return It partially works. Consider the Foobar class below: class Foobar extends UIObject constructor: -> super("<h1/>", html: "Foobar") $("body").append(new Foobar) works fine. BUT: (new Foobar).appendTo("body") places the tag, but also raises RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded. Was it just a bad idea to inherit from jQuery? Or is there a solurion? For those who don't know CoffeeScript, the JavaScript source is: var Foobar, UIObject; var __hasProp = Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty, __extends = function(child, parent) { for (var key in parent) { if (__hasProp.call(parent, key)) child[key] = parent[key]; } function ctor() { this.constructor = child; } ctor.prototype = parent.prototype; child.prototype = new ctor; child.__super__ = parent.prototype; return child; }; UIObject = (function () { UIObject.prototype.isObject = function (val) { return typeof val === "object"; }; function UIObject(tag, attributes) { this.merge(jQuery(tag, attributes), this); this.UIObjectProperties = {}; } UIObject.prototype.merge = function (source, destination) { var key; for (key in source) { if (destination[key] === void 0) { destination[key] = source[key]; } else if (this.isObject(source[key])) { this.merge(source[key], destination[key]); } } }; return UIObject; })(); Foobar = (function () { __extends(Foobar, UIObject); function Foobar() { Foobar.__super__.constructor.call(this, "<h1/>", { html: "Foobar" }); } return Foobar; })();

  • How to create custom CSS "on the fly" based on account settings in a Django site?

    - by sdolan
    So I'm writing a Django based website that allows users select a color scheme through an administration interface. I already have middleware/context processors that links the current request (based on domain) to the account. My question is how to dynamically serve the CSS with the account's custom color scheme. I see two options: Add a CSS block to the base template that overrides the styles w/variables passed in through a context processors. Use a custom URL (e.g. "/static/dynamic/css//styles.css") that gets routed to a view that grabs all the necessary values and creates the css file. I'm content with either option, but was wondering if anyone else out there has dealt with similar problems and could give some insight as to "Best Practices".

  • CentOS: AJAX/jQuery not working

    - by Australiya
    In a nutshell, I have an unmanaged VPS. At one time, it had Ubuntu 10.10 server on it, then I reinstalled it with CentOS 6 and updated it to CentOS 6.2. Now, the problem is, the AJAX/jQuery shoutbox has ceased working (I assume it uses one of the two to inject itself into a div and then refresh when new messages are posted, I'm not sure, I didn't write these), and the plug-board script now shows me a lime green blank page. No changes to the source codes have been made, and they are in the location they expect themselves to be. I have Apache2, MySQL 5, PHP 5, and I did install the php-xml libraries. What am I missing? It's gotta be server side because the scripts themselves are fine, if I move them to a different server they work just fine. I'm not getting any errors related to this in the error_log file. Thanks in advance! Edit: If you want, you can look at the plugboard at kazeshini.net/plugboard and there's an installation of the chatbox at silverlotus.kazeshini.net/yshout/example, I know nothing about scripts and debugging so better someone else looks at it than someone that doesn't know what they're looking for.
