• HD Video on Pandaboard ES

  I am running Ubuntu 11.10 on my Pandaboard ES. I attempted to playback a 720p / 1080p video. In both cases, the videos were highly jittery and the audio seemed to be plagued with something that seemed to be white noise (sounds like white noise, but it definitely is not white noise). I was using VLC media player for playback and was running XFCE4 as the desktop ewnvironment. The system monitor graph indicates both the CPU cores running ~100%. Lower resolution videos seemed to play without problems. How do I play 1080 / 720 HD videos on pandaboard? Thanks in advance.

• How to negate current window in gnome shell?

  I dislike that most websites use a black font on white background for their sites, as it gets too tiresome for me to read. Back in the days of 11.04, using Gnome2 with compiz, there actually was a Negative feature that could negate the content of any window, making the background black and the font white. Much easier on the eyes for me. Yet since 11.10, using gnome shell with mutter, I have no idea if there is something alike out there. Hence my question: How do I negate the currently active window in gnome shell? I am not interested in alternative methods, e.g. user styles. I am aware of their existence but I find it much easier to just invert the screen by the hit of a key shortcut. I also want the solution to be application-agnostic. As I also from time to time would want to invert libre-office or some other glaringly white application.

• Can't export Blender model for use in jMonkeyEngine SDK

  I have a scene rendered in blender called "civ1.blend" which contains multiple materials (for example, I have one called "white"). I want to use this model in jMonkeyEngine, so I used the OGRE exporter to create .scene and .material files. This gives me, for example, a civ1.scene file and a white.material file.However, when I then try to import civ1.scene into the jMonkeyEngine SDK, I get an error along the lines of "Cannot find material file 'civ1.material'". Like I said, I have a white.material file, but I do not have a civ1.material file. Did anyone encounter this problem? How do I fix this?

  I've tried multiple times to apply the following piece of code in a CSS document: display: block; width: 500px; margin: 500px auto; padding: 15px; text-align: center; border: 4px solid blue; background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top,black,white); outline: 7px solid red; Everything appears correctly, except the gradient. I have CS6 Live View turned on, and it still refuses to appear. All I get in my box is a white background, as opposed to the black to white gradient. However, when I type the same line of code into the trial of Coda 2 I downloaded, it works perfectly. Is there anything I can do to resolve the issue?

  i allready asked this on Stackoverflow, but i think this question may belong here. In a Libgdx game i have some Animations for my Player. All the Frames for this Animation are inside a TextureAtlas. The Player Textures show a human, with a white T-Shirt. The T-Shirt is the only white part of the Player. Now i want to be able to replace the white color with red for Player1, with green for Player2 and so on. How can i do that, without loosing the advantage of the TextureAtlas (Texture switching)? Ofc 1 way would be to store 4 versions of every Frame, for 4 different Players (colors). But there are games out there, where you can fully customize the Player, give him a blue hat, red pants and pink shirts and so on. How can this be done? Thanks a lot! • Using dnsmasq for accessing multiple nameservers assigned by DHCP

  At my work desktop running openSUSE 11.4, I have a local network which gets its address, domain (work.site) and nameservers (10.100.1.1, 10.100.1.2) info through DHCP - which get written into /etc/resolv.conf I get to access the internet using the work network, and these 2 nameservers end up returning the entries for any public domain name lookups on the internet. I also have a private VPN that I end up connecting. The nameserver (10.111.1.1) and domain (private.site) are rarely bound to change for this network, but currently they're pushed by the openVPN client into networkmanager, and which also gets merged with the existing /etc/resolv.conf My resolv.conf ultimately ends up looking like this: search private.site work.site nameserver 127.0.0.1 nameserver 10.111.1.1 nameserver 10.100.1.1 As you can see the 2nd nameserver from my work network was pushed out because of the max 3 entry limitations. It is fine still, but would be a problem if that nameserver goes down for maintenance or something. So I found out that dnsmasq could help me here, and hence I setup dnsmasq just as a local DNS resolver without any DHCP support. So right now this is my /etc/dnsmasq.conf: resolv-file=/etc/resolv.conf server=/private.site/10.111.1.1 server=/1.111.10.in-addr.arpa/10.111.1.1 listen-address=127.0.0.1 bind-interfaces log-queries I've made dnsmasq get the list of nameservers from /etc/resolv.conf since NetworkManager seems to be updating this list correctly (for a max of 3 nameservers). I'm able to resolve the host names in both the networks correctly. So these are the questions I have: Is there a way I can make either NetworkManager or dhclient write out the list of nameservers somewhere else which I can make dnsmasq use as resolv-file ? How do I make dnsmasq use certain nameservers as the default for all queries ? Right now I notice that lookups for public domains on the internet are usually sent to both the nameservers - the one on work.site as well as private.site. It would be good if I can limit this only to work.site.

• Apache hanging with MaxClients is reached

  My Apache 2.2 (preform MPM) is hanging when MaxClients is reached, rather than queueing up requests and serving them when child processes become free. When this happens, the web server is totally unresponsive until it is manually restarted. The server stack is Ubuntu 8, MySQL 5, PHP 5. Hardware is Dual Xeons (2.8) with 2GB of RAM. It serves 30,000 - 50,000 pageviews per day. Static images, CSS, and JS are offloaded to a separate server and PHP is cached using eAccelerator. The HTML output of many pages is cached to the filesystem.   I use pylint on .py files for :make in my .vimrc, although any program, pylint or otherwise, applies to this problem. set makeprg=pylint\ --reports=n\ --output-format=parseable\ % When I run :make, I inevitably get the annoying Press ENTER or type command to continue prompt.   We have a LAN where workstations are randomly losing network connectivity for brief moments of time. The workstations can also take a long time to login to the domain. During our troubleshooting we have found an error log on a few Windows 7 workstations: Warning BROWSER 8021 The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \\random-pc on the network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{BBABCDE9-D8A0-4399-93F2-492FE0848B12}. The data is the error code. What do these errors mean? What computers should have the Computer Browser service enabled, workstations and/or servers? The environment is a mix of Windows 7 & Windows XP workstations on a Windows Server SBS 2011 SP1 domain.

• XenServer VM's lose network settings

  We deploy virtual machines using Citrix XenServer 6.0 for our clients. Two seperate clients experience the same issue: when a Server 2008 virtual machine is restarted, the static IP addresses (network address, subnet, gateway, primary DNS) don't appear to apply correctly as the IP's cannot be pinged, network services cannot be accessed etc. The issue is resolved by manually switching the network adapters to DHCP, then re-setting them to the original static IP's. While not a major issue, it's a pain when restarting servers due to Windows Updates, plus iSCSI drives need to be manually connected to Windows again via iSCSI Initiator. We have tried removed the network adapters from the virtual machine under XenCentre but without luck. Anyone experienced similar issues?

• Increase Timeout for remote sessions in Debian 5 Lenny

  I always get a remote connection time out when using PuTTy and also when i send emails with attachments from a mail sever installed on Debian. I always get this error. I'm not sure if this is firewall or the new Debian 5 installation which i made. Is there any settings i need to fix after fresh install. Any inputs are highly appreciated. If I have a ZIP on the AFP share, and I use Finder to decompress the file, what will the process for decompressing this file be? Will it read the file into memory on my Mac, process it, and then write the results to the AFP share? I’ve been wondering because if I login via SSH to decompress, I seem to get faster results.

  Small business server 2011 standard - applications randomly closing for remote desktop users I have an issue where when you are connected through remote desktop (doesn't matter whether you have administrative rights or not).   I am running Visual SVN Server(with Apache) on a Windows 7 computer and network. After about 15-20 minutes of my first commit/update, I am unable to access the repository via Tortoise SVN. The error message I get is: OPTIONS of "https://jason/svn/repository1": could not connect to server (https://jason) Restarting the Visual SVN Server service helps sometimes but fails quite often. The only sure-shot way to get it working is to restart the computer. The server - https://jason is also not accessible via the browser when I get this error 1) I tried reinstalling Windows 7, Visual SVN server and Tortoise SVN but I still keep getting this error. 2) I searched several forums but I dont seem to be able to find an answer. Please help.

• Dual Touchscreens in Different Rooms

  I'm planning on having one dual-core system running two touchscreens, each in its own room in the house. I'd like to be able to use the internet on one, while someone else uses the other to record music - each of us interacting with the screen as we would separate computers. I was also thinking that running each screen, or certain programs, on its own core might make this work more smoothly. Will this setup work in Windows 7 Home on a mini-tower or do I need to invest in a server to get this sort of workstation/terminal setup to work?

• How can I send raw postscript to a remote printer via CUPS?

  I have an ancient fax device with a printer interface that only accepts postscript level 1 documents formatted in a specific way. I only have access to this printer over the lpd:// protocol. I have some old documents from our previous system that work fine on our Unix machines, but they are altered somehow by CUPS when I use lp on our Linux system. The PDF files that end up in the print queue are significantly modified versions of the original, and although they still render in ghostscript, they don't do anything on the printer. I'm wondering if there's a way to tell CUPS "don't process this, just send it to the printer without modification", or whether there's a lpd client or procedure I could try?

  My client has a XenServer 6.0.2 installation with 2 Window Server 2008 R2 virtual machines. Whenever the virtual machines are rebooted they lose their IP settings (IP address, subnet, gateway). Each time after a reboot I need to login to each VM via XenCenter and re-apply the required static IP settings. This causes issues with connected iSCSI drives within each VM - drives need to be reconnected after each reboot. • How can I get a notification from my server if the mail queue stops

  I am using QMail with Plesk 10 on an Apache server. Occasionally the mail queue stops processing emails - this most recently happenend when an email account got hacked and started sending hundreds of emails. We did not find out about this until a client of ours contacted to say that their emails were not being recieved, so we checked the mail queue and lo and behold the service had stopped. In future I would like to be notified when the mailqueue stops. How can I set something up so the server will run a command whenever the mailqueue stops?

• SFTP "Could not connect to server error"

  I'm having problems connecting to my server via SFTP. I can SSH in to the system perfectly fine, but for some odd reason, i'm not able to SFTP (which I used to be able to). I have cleared ALL my iptables rules iptables -F still no access. I have removed the sub system (to allow FULL access) still no access. I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem is. Thus is therefore making a solution impossible.

• Linux Minux 12 Freezes (Gnome 2) - How to go about finding and fixing cause?

  This freezing issue has been reported by others over the past few months but no clear answer has been provided. Some have attributed it to Banshee or other music players but this is incorrect since I have this problem and never while using anything other than perhaps Firefox. (I am not sure if it is necessarily due to firefox). Logging out and logging back in seems to remedy the problem. However, it would be nice to fix things once and for all. This problem began in the past 3 weeks. I alway have all Mint updates implemented.

• How do I re-configure grub options

  I've searched this topic and I can't find an article with a plausable solution, to my problem. I installed windows 7 first, with 100gb of disk space. I created the necessary partitions via windows. Then I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the remaining 400gb of disk space. During the Ubuntu installation I installed the ubuntu boot loader on /dev/sda3 which Windows (as expected never granted me the option pre-boot for which OS I wanted to boot). So I re-installed Ubuntu on that /dev/sda3 partition, overriding the windows 7 loader. Now when I boot windows 7, it runs GNU Grub, so like an infinite loop. How can I reconfigure grub to say: /dev/sda is the bootloader. /dev/sda2 is Windows. /dev/sda3 is Ubuntu. Re-installing windows and my partitions isn't an option, purchasing software for windows isn't an option (theres a reason I use linux, it's not because it's free, because you don't have to install lots of shit to get stuff working, and over-all it's a robust OS).

• Don't show hidden applications when using Command-Tab

  Hi, I'm wondering if there's a way to not show hidden applications in the list of running apps when using Command-Tab ? LiteSwitch (http://www.proteron.com/) sort of does what I want, except it grays out hidden applications, but I want them to not appear at all. I use hidden applications as a sort of 'I'll get to later, or don't bother me now' method, so it would be great if Command-Tab could honor that (the same was Expose does). Thanks.
