  • What is Silverlight's relationship -- if any -- to WPF?

    I was working with a WPF application and I decided that the controls and graphics I wanted to display on the grid might look better if it was a silverlight component. I thought this way because of all the cool silverlight controls that look very flash-like. But now that I have gottem my Visual Studio 2010 set up with SIlverlight, it seems that every silverlight app I can make are ASP.NET in nature. It seems that instead of a cool GUI control to make, Silverlight is telling me that it is primarely a dataflow sort of application for the web. What is the relationship, if any, between WPF and Silverlight. Can I or can I not put a silverlight control into my existing WPF application?

  • Getting svn: E170000: Unrecognized URL scheme for my custom Svn Gradle plugin

    I wrote a custom gradle plugin using groovy to do basic svn tasks like, Checkout, Clean, Tag etc. The groovy class calls the svn command line client to do these operations, It works fine when i run it on my windows system but the same plugin gives the following error when i run it on a linux system (Centos). svn: E170000: Unrecognized URL scheme for '%22https://source.mycompany.net/svn/MyProject/trunk%22' Am able to make the same calls to the command line client through the command prompt or shell script without any issues.     I built a Visual Studio 2008 setup Project wich depends on .NET 3.5. I added Prerequisites like: .NET 3.5, Microsoft office interoperability, VS tools for office System 3.0 Run time, .etc. After that Selected "Download Prerequisite from Same location as my application" in Specify install location for Prerequisite. I Built the setup and found mysetup.msi in Release directory. In a new machine I started fresh installation of my application. A dialog shows like this "This Setup Requires .NET framework 3.5 , Please install .NET setup then run this setup, .NET Framework can be obtained from web Do you want to do that now?" it gives "Yes" and "No" option - if I press yes it goes to Microsoft website. How can avoid it? I wanted setup take .NET Framework to be installed from same location where I put all setup files including mysetup.msi? In case of quiet installation cmd /c "msiexec /package mysetup.msi /quiet /log install.log" ..in log I can see only half way through installation then error Property(S): HideFatalErrorForm = TRUE MSI (s) (D0:24) [00:07:08:015]: Product: my product-- Installation failed. === Logging stopped: 3/23/2010 0:07:08 === How can complete I the installation without user intervention and without error using VS2008 setup project?   • Linq to Sql: Update Entity throug a new Object

    Hey Guys I'd like to update an entity via linq, but since I edit the entity in a view after serializing it, I don't have direct access to the entity inside the data context. I could do it like this: entity.property1 = obj.property1; entity.property2 = obj.property2; ... thats not cool... not cool at all. Next thing I tried is to do it via .attach() like so: context.Table.attach(entity, obj); doesn't work either. So is there another option short of reflection?

  • How to get a list of all Subversion commit author usernames?

    I'm looking for an efficient way to get the list of unique commit authors for an SVN repository as a whole, or for a given resource path. I haven't been able to find an SVN command specifically for this (and don't expect one) but I'm hoping there may be a better way that what I've tried so far in Terminal (on OS X): svn log --quiet | grep "^r" | awk '{print $3}' svn log --quiet --xml | grep author | sed -E "s:</?author>::g" Either of these will give me one author name per line, but they both require filtering out a fair amount of extra information. They also don't handle duplicates of the same author name, so for lots of commits by few authors, there's tons of redundancy flowing over the wire. More often than not I just want to see the unique author usernames. (It actually might be handy to infer the commit count for each author on occasion, but even in these cases it would be better if the aggregated data were sent across instead.) I'm generally working with client-only access, so svnadmin commands are less useful, but if necessary, I might be able to ask a special favor of the repository admin if strictly necessary or much more efficient. The repositories I'm working with have tens of thousands of commits and many active users, and I don't want to inconvenience anyone.

  • Why doesn't C# allow for global inferred types i.e. using var?

    I know it can't be done since using var can only be done for local variables. I'm just wondering if anyone has a theory why the C# team thought this should be so. e.g. what would be wrong with this: public class SomeClass { var someString = "hello"; //not cool public SomeClass() { var someOtherString = "hello"; //cool } } If someString is initialised then it is obviously a string just like someOtherString. Why is there one rule for local variables and another for globals?

  • Combine Lists with Same Heads in a 2D List (OCaml)

    Hi guys, I'm working with a list of lists in OCaml, and I'm trying to write a function that combines all of the lists that share the same head. This is what I have so far, and I make use of the List.hd built-in function, but not surprisingly, I'm getting the failure "hd" error: let rec combineSameHead list nlist = match list with | [] -> []@nlist | h::t -> if List.hd h = List.hd (List.hd t) then combineSameHead t nlist@uniq(h@(List.hd t)) else combineSameHead t nlist@h;; So for example, if I have this list: [[Sentence; Quiet]; [Sentence; Grunt]; [Sentence; Shout]] I want to combine it into: [[Sentence; Quiet; Grunt; Shout]] The function uniq I wrote just removes all duplicates within a list. Please let me know how I would go about completing this. Thanks in advance!

  • Passing variables, creating instances, self, The mechanics and usage of classes: need explenation

    I've been sitting over this the whole day and Im a little tired already so please excuse me being brief. Im new to python. I just rewrrote a working program, into a bunch of functions in a class and everzthings messed up. I dont know if its me but Im very surprised i couldn t find a beginners tutorial on how to handle classes on the web so I have a few questions. First of all, in the init section of the class i have declared a bunch of variables with self.variable=something. Is it correct that i should be able to access/modify these variables in every function of the class by using self.variable in that function? In other words by declaring self.variable i have made these variables, global variables in the scope of the class right? If not how do i handle self. ? Secondly how do i correctly pass arguments to the class? some example code would be cool. thirdly how do i call a function of the class outside of the class scope? some example code would be cool. fouthly how do I create an Instance of the class INITIALCLASS in another class OTHERCLASS, passing variables from OTHERCLASS to INITIALCLASS? some example code would be cool. I Want to call a function from OTHERCLASS with arguments from INITIALCLASS. All i find on the web is super simple examples, that didnt help me much. I've got an iPhone 3GS that I use only for development and over the months I've accumulated 3,472 rollover minutes (my primary phone is an Android G-1). It seems a shame to let these minutes go to "waste." What cool iPhone app would you like to see that uses these minutes up in a productive, interesting, and possibly cool way. I'll code whichever suggestion has the highest vote, providing it's not illegal and doesn't violate Apple's SDK, and release it for free on the AppStore.

    I have a high end Mac pro, but one thing in is that I'm unhappy with is a DVD drive. It's a Hitachi GH41N. Apple calls it a "superdrive", but it's anything but. The damn thing makes an amazing amount of noise, and isn't too fast either. What I want is a state of the art, fast, quiet DVD reader, preferably not even a burner. What should I get?

    With c# or a batch file I mount a trueCrypt volume located at A:\volumeTrueCrypt.tc With c# I do: static void Main(string[] args) { var p = Process.Start( fileName:@"C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe", arguments:@"/v a:\volumetruecrypt.tc /lw /a /p truecrypt" ); p.WaitForExit(); } the alternative is to run the command on the command line as: C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /v "a:\volumetruecrypt.tc" /lw /a /p truecrypt Either way I get the error: Why do I get that error? I was able to run that command the first time. The moment I dismounted the volume and tryied to mount it again I got that error. I know that drive letter W is available because it shows as an available letter on true crypt if I where to open it manually: If I where then click on the button mount and then type the password truecrypt (truecrypt is the password) then it will successfully mount on drive w. Why I am not able to mount it from the command line!? If I change the drive letter on the command line it works. I want to use the drive W though. In other words executing "C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /v "a:\volumetruecrypt.tc" /lz /a /p truecrypt will successfully mount that volume on drive z but I do not want to mount it on drive z I want to mount it on drive w. The first time I ran the batch it ran fine. Also if I restart my computer I believe it should work. More info on how to use trueCrypt through the command line can be found at: http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=command-line-usage Edit I was also investivating when does this error occures. In order to generate this error you need to follow this steps. 1) execute the command: (note the /q argument at the end for quiet) "C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /v "a:\volumetruecrypt.tc" /ln /a /p truecrypt /q "C...TrueCrypt.exe" = location where trueCrypt is located /v "path" = location where volume is located /n = drive letter n /p truecrypt = password is "trueCrypt" /q = execute in quiet mode. do not show window note I am mounting to drive letter n 2) now volume should be mounted. 3) Open trueCrypt and manually dismount that volume (without using command line) 4) Attempt to run the same command line (without the /q so you see the error) "C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /v "a:\volumetruecrypt.tc" /ln /a /p truecrypt 5) an error should show up So the problem ocures when I manually dismount the volume. If I dismount it from the command line I get no errors. But I think this is a bug from trueCrypt

  • Is it worth putting high-performance drives in a home NAS?

    I'm looking at a QNAP NAS setup, and in the options for disks they have the very enterprisey Western Digital RE3. I'll be using the box for backing up my laptop, and streaming media either to the laptop or a media device using the built-in media server, possibly both at once. My question is, would I notice any benefit at all in splashing out for the high-performance drive, or should I stick with something quiet and cool (and cheap) like the Caviar Green?

    I'm running Debian 6, Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 under Grub2 ( 1.98+20100804-14+squeeze1) on a remote system (no possibility to view the pre-boot messages). I compiled and installed a new kernel, but I can not get it to boot. What I have done: Installed the packages via: dpkg -i linux-headers-3.5.3.20120914-amd64_3.5.3.20120914-amd64-10.00.Custom_amd64.deb linux-image-3.5.3.20120914-amd64_3.5.3.20120914-amd64-10.00.Custom_amd64.deb This updated the Grub configuration. I also realize it won't harm my documents, but are there any pit-falls?
