  • Three Key Tenets of Optimal Social Collaboration

This post is an abridged version of John’s white paper in which he discusses three principals to optimize social collaboration within an enterprise.   By john[email protected], Oracle Principal Sales Consultant Effective social collaboration is actionable, deeply contextual and inherently derives its value from business entities outside of itself. How does an organization begin the journey from traditional, siloed collaboration to natural, business entity based social collaboration? Successful enablement of enterprise social collaboration requires that organizations embrace the following tenets and understand that traditional collaborative functionality has inherent limits - it is innovation and integration in accordance with the following tenets that will provide net-new efficiency benefits. Key Tenets of Optimal Social Collaboration Leverage a Ubiquitous Social Fabric - Collaborative activities should be supported through a ubiquitous social fabric, providing a personalized experience, broadcasting key business events and connecting people and business processes.  This supports education of participants working in and around a specific business entity that will benefit from an implicit capture of tacit knowledge and provide continuity between participants.  In the absence of this ubiquitous platform activities can still occur but are essentially siloed causing frequent duplication of effort across similar tasks, with critical tacit knowledge eluding capture. Supply Continuous Context to Support Decision Making and Problem Solving - People generally engage in collaborative behavior to obtain a decision or the resolution for a specific issue.  The time to achieve resolution is referred to as "Solve Time".  Users have traditionally been forced to switch or "alt-tab" between business systems and synthesize their own context across disparate systems and processes.  The constant loss of context forces end users to exert a large amount of effort that could be spent on higher value problem solving. Extend the Collaborative Lifecycle into Back Office - Beyond the solve time from decision making efforts, additional time is expended formalizing the resolution that was generated from collaboration in a system of record.  Extending collaboration to result in the capture of an explicit decision maximizes efficiencies, creating a closed circuit for a particular thread.  This type of structured action may exist today within your organization's customer support system around opening, solving and closing support issues, but generally does not extend to Sales focused collaborative activities. Excelling in the Unstructured Future We will always have to deal with unstructured collaborative processes within our organizations.  Regardless of the participants and nature of the collaborate process, two things are certain – the origination and end points are generally known and relate to a business entity, perhaps a customer, opportunity, order, shipping location, product or otherwise. Imagine the benefits if an organization's key business systems supported a social fabric, provided continuous context and extended the lifecycle around the collaborative decision making to include output into back office systems of record.   The technical hurdle to embracing optimal social collaboration would fall away, leaving the company with an opportunity to focus on and refine how processes were approached.  Time and resources previously required could then be reallocated to focusing on innovation to support competitive differentiation unique to your business.   • Visual Studio 2010 blurry font

    I'm using Visual C# 2010 Express (final, not beta or anything) and I'm having an issue with blurry fonts while debugging. The font appears normal everywhere (intellisense, menus, code) but when a breakpoint is reached most of the debugger related text is blurry (Locals, Call Stack, "data tooltips").     Hello. I have 30 divs with the same class on the same page. When i'm pressing the title (.pull) the content is sliding up (.toggle_container). When the content is hidden and i'm pressing the title again, the content is sliding down. Also, i want to store the div state inside a cookie. I modified my original code to store the div state inside a cookie but it's not working for all the divs (pull1, toggle_container1, pull2, toggle_container2 [...]), it's working only for the first one (pull0, toggle_container0). It works fine, but the Block class has an method, called draw: this.draw = function (ctx){ if(ctx){ var colors = ['#FF0000','#FFFF00','#0000FF','#00FF00'], color = Math.round(Math.random() * colors.length-1); ctx.fillStyle = colors[color]; ctx.fillRect(this.x,this.y,this.width,this.height); } }; It was working before I moved it into the Block class, but now it draws nothing. This is the code that calls draw: render: function(ctx){ each(this.blocks,function(index){ this[index].draw(ctx); }); } The context comes from the html page, from the main canvas.

  • Separate Database for Integration Testing

    I am performance integration testing where I fire up the ASPX pages using WatiN and fill the fields and insert into the database. There are couple of problems that I am facing. 1) Should I use a completely separate database for integration testing? I already gave db_test and db_dev. db_test is for unit testing and is cleared after each test. db_dev is for developers. 2) When I run WatiN test which are contained in a separate assembly (not separate from unit test assembly which should be better since WatiN test take so much time to run). So WatiN test fire up the WebApps project and uses their web.config which is pointing to the dev database. Is there anyway I can tell WatiN to use a separate web.config which contains a different database name?

    I wanted to embed HTML formatting and so I did <xs:element name="boobie"> <xs:complexType mixed="true"> <xs:sequence> <xs:any namespace="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" processContent="skip"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> However, when I put li tag (dot point element for HTML) inside the XML file (inside boobie tag) it generates error that it is unexpected. What is wrong with this? is the only way to put html tag inside XMl file is to use CDATA?

  • Bug in CF9: values for unique struct keys referenced and overwritten by other keys.

    We've run into a serious issue with CF9 wherein values for certain struct keys can be referenced by other keys, despite those other keys never being set. See the following examples: Edit: Looks like it isn't just something our servers ate. This is Adobe bug-track ticket 81884: http://cfbugs.adobe.com/cfbugreport/flexbugui/cfbugtracker/main.html#bugId=81884. <cfset a = { AO = "foo" } /> <cfset b = { AO = "foo", B0 = "bar" } /> <cfoutput> The following should throw an error. Instead both keys refer to the same value. <br />Struct a: <cfdump var="#a#" /> <br />a.AO: #a.AO# <br />a.B0: #a.B0# <hr /> The following should show a struct with 2 distinct keys and values. Instead it contains a single key, "AO", with a value of "bar". <br />Struct b: <cfdump var="#b#" /> This is obviously a complete show-stopper for us. I'd be curious to know if anyone has encountered this or can reproduce this in their environment. For us, it happens 100% of the time on Apache/CF9 running on Linux, both RH4 and RH5. We're using the default JRun install on Java 1.6.0_14. To see the extent of the problem, we ran a quick loop to find other naming sequences that are affected and found hundreds of matches for 2 letter key names. A similar loop found more conflicts in 3 letter names. <cfoutput>Testing a range of affected key combinations. This found hundreds of cases on our platform. "Allow more entries to be displayed in the view: When the user clicks more, additional entries should be displayed in addition to the ones which are already displayed. The code should cause the UI to scroll such that the first entry of the "more" set is on top". I am using com.ibm.rcp.browser.service.WebBrowser which is similar to SWT WebBrowser.

    hi, I am using a WebBrowser to render some HTML text. The WebBrowser is located within a rich client. I can detect the window's orientation when the rich client is launched. How do I make the text rendered within the WebBrowser to be dispayed in RTL order. I have tried body.setDir("rtl"), but it only aligned all the text in the WebBrowser to the right. It does not really reverse the content. For example, I have a photo that is displayed on the left and then a segment of text displayed on the right. After calling body.setDir("rtl"), it only aligned everything to the right in the WebBrowser, but it did not move the photo to the right, and it did not move the text to the left. Thanks a lot!

    In the following code, the stack-based variable 'ex' is thrown and caught in a function beyond the scope in which ex was declared. This seems a bit strange to me, since (AFAIK) stack-based variables cannot be used outside the scope in which they were declared (the stack is unwound). void f() { SomeKindOfException ex(...); throw ex; } void g() { try { f(); } catch (SomeKindOfException& ex) { //Handling code... } } I've added a print statement to SomeKindOfException's destructor and it shows that ex is destructed once it goes out of scope in f() but then it's caught in g() and destructed again once it goes out of scope there as well. Any help?

    Hello. I'm trying to make a small script that's changing the permission for specific file using a ftp connection. My problem is the absolute path. I have a ftp account wich land on the script directory (/script/). If i'm using getcwd, it will return the whole path (/home/user/public_html/script) but i need only the difference between the full path and the current path (getcwd path: /home/user/public_html/script/ ftp landing path: /script). So, how can i use getcwd to get the current directory for a ftp account? For example, if the user is landing in public_html, the path to the script will be /script/, or if he is landing inside /user, the path will be /public_html/script. Thanks

    My aim is to execute an external executable in my program. First, I used system() function, but I don't want the console to be seen to the user. So, I searched a bit, and found CreateProcess() function. However, when I try to pass a parameter to it, I don't know why, it fails.
